Courteous and provision of transport to and from airport and to and from conference venue was too good, convenient and very much appreciated. The breakfast provided with a smile was great. The room was comfortable, furniture's antique, clean and very welcoming and homely after returning from busy meeting day. It's one of the hotel I enjoyed my sleep, I slept like a baby each night. Internet wifi connection really need to.improve in this hotel. But the great thing is the staff was super helpful, willing to connect from their internet in order for us to access it and send some work related emails.

• Peter (9/5): Relaxing in Addis - I had a great time staying at Abyssinia. The furniture in the room was tasteful, and the shower had a steam bath. It was very nice. Breakfast was basic - you could have eggs, fruit and coffee. The staff was wonderful and very accommodating.

• Mauricio (7/5): Good - I think the staff in the restaurant were always very kind and friendly, food was also ok, promptly done. The gym was very good, good setting with lots of machines and clean. Too bad the girl in the reception did not speak good English, and was not punctual. I was told the gym would open at 5:30 am, and I ended waiting 30 mins for her to open. Also, the hygiene was a matter to complain, the sheets were yellowish, and I've found a nail in the dumpster which could have been cleaned propely.
• David (5/5): Great staff but the owner needs to take less from the till and get his systems working to attack - The staff are fantastic albeit working in a hotel that really needs some attention to detail The power cuts are almost daily and the owner doesn't seem to be able to get his standby generator working. The WIFI is good but they have a hugely annoying system that means you need to reconnect evey time you move in the hotel and you will require new passwords every 2 days. It's not a good hotel if you need online business meetings!

• Romeo (10/5): Great service! Kind and hospitable hotel staff! - The staff was very friendly and hospitable! The hotel manager, Selam, was so helpful as I was booking (and she continued to be accommodating throughout my stay). Her kindness and willingness to go the extra mile is what solidified my choice to stay at the Abyssinia Renaissance. This was my first time in Ethiopia. My plane arrived on time, but my baggage took over 2 hours to retrieve. Dawit, my shuttle driver, was the first face I saw of the hotel staff as he waiting patiently for me at the airport, and he made me feel very welcomed to the country. He gave me a wonderful first impression of the Ethiopian people-- very kind, welcoming, and hospitable people. All of the staff appear to be trained to provide exceptional service to their guests. I felt like they genuinely appreciated me choosing to stay at their wonderful hotel! I also enjoyed the included breakfast! I loved the restaurant in the early mornings: very quiet, peaceful setting for enjoying a meal and/or a coffee while reading! They had a nice buffet and made omelets to order and also at times, they made special pancakes which I absolutely loved with coffee! One of the servers in the restaurant (I didn't get her name) knew I enjoyed the pancakes and if she was working, she'd make sure she brought some to me, which made me feel very special! :-) I HIGHLY recommend this hotel. I'd say the only issue for me (and I believe this to possibly be outside of their control) was I think due to the humidity during the 15 days that I stayed (rainy season), I did notice roaches from time to time. I've lived in high-humidity climates before and understand that this can be challenging to control in such weather conditions.

• Charlotte (5/5): Disappointing - The staff were lovely, but this is to be expected in Ethiopia in general. Our room was one of the nicer ones that we saw in the hotel, except for a few broken things in the room.. The breakfast was lovely. The shower, despite the leak, was lovely and had a radio and steam feature, which was really nice. There were a few broken items in my room and at first I didn't mind at first I saw the lamp was broken and only informed the reception so they didn't think it was us who had broken it. The next day, I found that the shower leaked and flooded the floor. For our whole stay, the sauna and steam room were out of action, despite being told it would be fixed by the next day 6 days in a row, by which point I gave up. Unfortunately for the current time in Ethiopia the water also went out twice but I can't fault the hotel for this. We also found out there was a leak in the ceiling, we only found this out one day towards the end of our stay when it was raining outside as we were in the room that particular day, as all of our stay we were out in the city. All of these issues were not worth us leaving as I was travelling with my six year old son and I thought I could resolve the lack in facilities with the hotel with some type of discount as a sauna and steam room are not essential items just not what we had booked our hotel room on the premis of. When I went to address these issues with management they had me after two days speak with the owner of the hotel who at the first instance suggested that I leave the hotel if I wasn't happy and find somewhere else to stay. This was day 6 of our 8 night stay, which just seemed ridiculous and rude. He also boasted that he was opening a Hilton in Addis, which I thought was ridiculous as he needs to focus his attention on getting his current project up to scratch before starting a much more high profile project such as a Hilton Hotel. We were not even compensated for one night of our stay, which I find to be disgusting. This hotel doesn't have a sauna and steam room available as promised, the roof leaks, and facilities are broken and your complaints will be taken as insults rather than constructive criticism for the owners take on board to repair.

Welcoming staff (security guard and receptionist) Shuttle from the Airport was not on time despite booking AND a reminder. I waited over 30 mins before finally taking a taxi. (Shuttle back to the airport after my stay was okay) I was not able to pay in local currency.

Pillow case and bed sheets unclean. My reservation dates were screwed up. Hotel failed to mention rate included breakfast and spa. Had to remind reception to provide WiFi pass word. Hotel manager apologized for inconveniences but also placed responsibility on my shoulders for hotel service deficiencies but also invited me to use spa services anytime ( but only after I asked if possible).

• Terefe (8/5): Very good - When I arrived, there was a little hiccup with the shuttle pickup, which they made it up for by upgrading my room for the whole stay. Clean air-conditioned room came in handy because this time of the year Addis is very hot. Breakfast is good, the staff is super helpful, inside parking garage with security. Location is on the side of the main road, but surprisingly, I wasn't disturbed by early traffic. I had an excellent stay.

Now that it is over, I am staying there again. The staff try to do the best they can to accommodate every request. If you are a gym person, they also have a good facility. I have always been very comfortable—there is nothing negative to say. It's all about perspective. I like the location.

The toilet sink was not filling, the shower drain was not draining, the safe-box was not working, the bed sheets were dirty, the kettle was leaking. Nothing was done despite informing the reception and manager 5 times in 3 days!!
