Guest Reviews
- Susannah (9/5): We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend xx - A beautiful house situated in the heart of Kirby Stephen. Plenty of spacious rooms to enjoy with a beautiful garden and games room including a hot tub. We particularly liked the under floor heating in the kitchen too which made the room really cosy x I don’t think we could work the heating out very well as most of the rooms were quite cold apart from the kitchen and the bedroom above the kitchen. We also struggled a bit with the WiFi. It was a shame the dishwasher wasn’t working too as we were a big party so lots of washing up for us !
- Danielle (8/5): - Huge house with lots of rooms and space I would definitely go back Hot tub only seats 4 people but we had 13 guests.
Cleaning fee is expensive especially when you strip the beds, do all the pots and put the bins out. When we arrived there was food under the table ,dust and cobwebs and a lot of grease on the units in the kitchen so the fee seems a lot when they don’t clean the property fully
- Ruth (10/5): - Everything was luxurious, wonderful period detail next to modern convenience. We have booked again. Personal preference but mugs as well as cups and saucers for the morning cup of tea or coffee.
- Kathryn (10/5): Fun group weekend break - Spent the weekend for a friends 40th birthday there was 13 of us and the house was incredible. We did not want to leave. The kitchen space is incredible we spent most of our time in there as it leads straight on the games room. Stephen Kirkby is a beautiful place lots of little shops and well priced pubs.

- Lolls79 (10/5): Sensational staycation - We loved everything about this house. Felt very spoiled with luxury. Nothing at all, the only suggestion I would say is have a mop in the hot tub room.
- Amelia (10/5): -
- Jak Reeve (10/5): -
- Carolyn (9/5): Lovely trip, would recommend and would go back. - Excellent property. Well appointed kitchen and lovely bedrooms. Few nice touches left by the hosts. Very close to the village with a pretty good selection of shops, bars and restaurants. Dining table for eight in an eight bedroom property.
- Adrian (8/5): -
- Morven (10/5): Fantastic and are already thinking of rebooking in the future. - The location was ideal for meeting up with family across the whole country, the facilities and the accommodation were outstanding and loved by all.
- Entwistle (9/5): -
- Margaret (8/5): - The size of house It was all good
- Lauren (10/5): The staff were always quick at responding to queries would definitely book again excellent stay with family :-) - Felt like home from home
- Tracy (10/5): Just luxurious. - It was a beautiful house and very centrally located. Nothing. It was perfect.
- Jessica (9/5): Excellent property for large groups. - Historic property with tasteful decor apart from artificial flowers.
Works very well for large groups. Chairs in kitchen too large for the table so a bit cramped. Some more side lights in drawing room and dining room would be helpful. Main issue is as electrical fault on first full day which was a problem. An electrician came to sort it but two of our group missed an outing.
- Nikki (9/5): We really enjoyed our stay here at redmayne house. A few things I would recommend the owners changing to make it perfect - - pretty much a bathroom in every bedroom, water never went cold after everyone had a shower which was great
- lots of drinks glasses with thinner rims (if you know you know)
- electric car port charge
- living room big enough for large groups to all sit in with each other
- children’s books and games for days. Such a good selection
- big enough for big groups, defo perfect for a party house
- clean and tidy
- good amenities - hot tub was disappointing, out the way, only a 4 seater which is not big enough for the amount of people the house sleeps, and so much chlorine our eyes were stinging after 5 minutes. It was definitely a big let down. We booked for the hot tub and used it once.
- So many stairs, stairs everywhere and they was not very safe. A few of our guests slipped as they were bumpy and small with rounded edges making it easy to slip off the edge of them.
- the coffee/tea mugs were not great
- tv in lounge didn’t have many channels and we was unable to access this to watch things like football or normal tv
- the wifi wasn’t great either, many of us couldn’t access it.
- windows in the lounge didn’t open so it was quite
warm at times - which is a good thing and bad thing
- not enough fridge space for big groups with lots of food and alcohol

- Matthew (8/5): Lovely stay on the whole - The location of the property was fantastic, within a very short walk of the high street and local amenities. The house itself was very well presented, and a lot of thought had clearly been put into making it work for large groups to get together. There was no shortage of crockery, glassware, cutlery and utensils. Plenty of fridge and counter space. The bedrooms were comfortable and quite and well decorated. The property was generally clean throughout. There was a lovely welcome tray of biscuits (and sweets for the children). There is a bees nest outside the property in the guttering (which had been flagged by a previous guest) but this had not been resolved when we arrived and we too found there were a lot of bees dead and dying mainly in the dining room and hot tub room. As we were a group of 12, we were using the dining room a lot and so that was a little off-putting. The beds ought to really have mattress, duvet and pillow protectors. The bin under the counter hadn't been emptied when we arrived.
- William (9/5): Great for a group - Amazing space with garden and facilities Bee nest in gutter and a lot of dead bees found in rooms
- Kaye (9/5): Perfect family get-together - Lovely big house, perfect for the size of our party.
Large garden and outdoor seating. Games room and hot tub.
Lots of bathrooms.
Plenty of crockery, cutlery and glasses. Some of the towels that were left for us were damp and a few bathmats were a bit grubby. We had enough clean ones, but need to point this out.
Could have done with a cheese grater, some serving dishes, bowls or jugs that were microwave friendly and more dish towels.
The dining room could have done with a few more chairs to save us carrying what we needed from the kitchen.
We reported a leak into the downstairs toilet room, but as this wasn't to be looked at until after we left, we were unable to use this room.
Also had to report a broken bathroom light in an upstairs bathroom, which prevented use of this internal room.
WiFi intermittent and TV didn't connect. This wasn't a concern for us, but may be a problem for others.
- Amila (10/5): Excellent property for big family vacation -
- Riaz (8/5): Amazing location and facilities, but felt a little underwhelmed on our second night! - The facilities were amazing, we really enjoyed the hot tub, games room, each bedroom had its own bathroom and they were all of a high standard. The location was central to Kirkby Stephen and an hours drive from Windermere, so it was perfect for our short weekend getaway. The heating system wasn’t working for both days of our stay, the hive system’s were not charged and so we bought batteries to put in them, but they couldn’t find the boiler system to connect to. We couldn’t feel this much as it was summer, but such a big house did still get cold and we could’ve done with the heating, especially for the kids. The hot water also wasn’t working on our second night, which was an issue when needing to shower after using the hot tub. I tried contacting the so-called out of hours number but no one picked up, and it was around 9pm when we came across the issue. A video was sent on how to trouble shoot the issue but we were checking out in a couple of hours so there was really no point in us trying to do it ourselves.
There were also stains on pillows in one of the bedrooms.
- Michaela (10/5): Girls stay - We loved how many bedrooms and bathrooms there were! Everybody had privacy with their private bathrooms and comfortable bedrooms. We would have preferred a larger dining table as we had to use the second smaller one which was a bit wobbly. Also we didn't use the frying pans as these looked like they do need replacing.
- Craig (9/5): Love the house, so very nearly perfect and clearly the owners/managers are trying very hard to hit the “luxury” rati - Great set up with almost every bedroom having en-suite.
Outrageous selection of drinks glasses (clearly a party house)!
Plenty of wood to load the fires (was essential given the weather).
Electric car charging capability (we didn’t need it, but unusual and refreshing to see). Insufficient utensils in the kitchen (no oven gloves, no wooden spoons, no fish slice or equivalent).
Boiling water tap is a safety hazard, as a minimum it needs a warning sign attached, it should really have a safety mechanism.
No coffee capability. Fancy Nespresso machine with only a single pod left for us, and so fancy that unable to buy replacement pods in the local shops. Worst of all, no cafetière to make our own filter coffee.
I ended up buying oven gloves, a cafetière and wooden spoon and leaving for the next guests (you’re welcome).
The fire in the dining room was already set for us (nice touch), but only after lighting it and filling the room with thick smoke did we work out the chimney had been stuffed blocked with newspapers and we had to risk burn injuries to prevent a chimney fire or worse!
- Gardiner (9/5): Superb -
- Grim97 (10/5): This is an amazing place to stay - We loved everything about Redmayne House, it has such a wow factor and is very well equipped. The staff at UK Luxury Breaks were fantastic too, excellent response time and super helpful. We were a party of 13 staying to celebrate a 40th Birthday and Redmayne House had everything we needed and more. The room standard is superb, especially the kitchen. And the house is super warm despite its size. The outside space is great, we really enjoyed the garden and the kids have loads of space to run around and play.
We had amazing time which we will never forget. , N/A
- Lucy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sadaf (9/5): Superb - We recently stayed at this incredible house as a group of 14, and it exceeded all our expectations. The house is amazing with lots of space for everyone. Each room is beautifully decorated, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. A standout feature is that every room has its own bathroom, which added a great level of convenience for our large group.
The living area is both spacious and comfortable, making it the perfect place for everyone to gather and relax. The kitchen is huge and exceptionally well-equipped, catering to all our culinary needs.
One of the highlights for both kids and adults was the fantastic games room and hot tub, which provided endless entertainment and relaxation.
The only minor downside is that the house is a 50-minute drive from the lakes. However, we found the property so comfortable and well-appointed that it was a minor inconvenience.
The only other slight issue was that the Internet/WiFi was a bit choppy at times, but it didn’t significantly impact our stay. Overall, this house was a perfect getaway, and we highly recommend it for large groups seeking a spacious and luxurious retreat.
- Kate (9/5): Fantastic weekend and would recommend just one or two teething problems but nothing that would put me off revisiting - Excellent property. Located right in the centre of town. With fantastic facilities. Comfortable and welcoming rooms. I wasn’t given entrance details until the morning of check in, and I had to ring for the details. As some of our party were setting off early due to lengthy journey it would of been nice to let them know before their departure rather than trying to contact everyone on route
The hot tub wasn’t useable due to the fact it didn’t warm up for the whole three days.
And just a small thing but in a property for 14 people only having 4 mugs was a bit of a problem.
