Guest Reviews
- Jocelyn (10/5): A brilliant stay. Highly recommended. - Exceptional. A perfect location.
- Christian (9/5): A little gem with a exceptional host. - Great location with the lighthouse as a neighbour.
Boddam is very well placed to explore the region.
Trudy is a star, very responsive, very friendly and helpful, thank you Trudy!!!
The cottage was spotlessly clean and has everything you need in a self catering cottage.
Beds are very comfy and the cottage is well heated.
Great shower what is not always the case in Scotland…
Great meals in the nearby Seaview Hotel just up the road. Not a problem for us, as our car is a wee Fiat500:
Yes, you can park in front of the cottage, but the neighbours are unfortunately not that kind and don’t really care. There are too many cars and this morning we were only able to leave as wee have this little car, otherwise we would have been stuck…
- Priska (10/5): - Lovely place, great location
- Tiffany (10/5): The location was perfect - we wanted somewhere quiet and away from it all and this certainly delivered! - The property had everything that we needed for a short break away and Trudy was very responsive!
- Mark (10/5): Lovely relaxing break - Great location with stunning scenery. The cottage has everything you could ask for.
- Skinner (9/5): The cottage was lovely - spotless, spacious and very comfortable - also very reasonably priced. - The location was beautiful even in December! I really appreciated the easy check in and check out process as my daughter had to have emergency surgery during my stay and I had to leave a bit earlier than planned. And thank you for the lovely welcome pack - that was a nice touch! Some coat hooks on the wall in the hall would have been handy - and manuals for the appliances or a page explaining the symbols or the basics of how they work would have been useful.
- Julie (10/5): Lovely little cottage - Loved are stay cosy everything we needed
Definitely be back 🥰
- Craig (10/5): Fantastic and value for money - The house was very clean, absolutely stunning views from certain parts of the house, the bathroom was beautiful, the original stonework being incorporated in the house was also beautiful, also appreciated the welcome hamper, a great relaxing experience all round made easy by the work put in by the hosts, who also made a cot for us arriving with no issues Genuinely don't think we had a single complaint
- Rhonda (10/5): -
- Carter (10/5): We loved our stay. Cozy place to return to after visting local places of interest. - Loveley welcome pack, comfortable beds, spacious, plenty storage, dishwasher, location with the view of the lighthouse, cleanliness, two sink basins in the bathroom, lovely decor, loads of plug sockets (14 in the kitchen alone!) The tiny kitchen bin is really the only thing. I don't exactly know where it would go, but it was totally inpractical. We had a couple of windy days, and there was a lot of noise from the small, exterior side bedroom window. Maybe, the addition of an air fryer would be a good idea. We took our own, so didn't actually use the oven during our stay.
- Sandi (10/5): Perfect Seaside Hideaway - The cottage is in a lovely location, just a stone's throw from the sea and perfect for access to the surrounding area. It had absolutely everything that I required and more, and was immaculately presented; it was warm and welcoming, and I cannot fault it! Nothing!
- Matthew (8/5): - Great little spot that provides a base to explore the east coast of Scotland. Home is exactly what you need; 2 beds, good bathroom facilities and a small kitchen to help save money on breakfast.
Boddam itself is very quiet without much to do so if you don't have a car I wouldn't recommend the area but if you have a vehicle at your disposal this is a great place for day trips around the Scottish east coast.
- Paige (10/5): The BEST accommodation we had out of several we booked for our 10 day tour of Scotland. - Trudy sent all communication well in advance, so I knew exactly where I was going, how I was going to get in and what to expect. She had a welcome basket sitting on the counter and a folio with things to do, places that were good to eat and her number if I had any questions or something went wrong. Washer/dryer needs instructions with it. I shrunk my pants!
- Katja (9/5): -
- Lucien (10/5): - La vue sur le phare et la mer , la maison confortable et cosy , le panier de bienvenue, la tranquillité, les oiseaux marins, la terrasse , que du bonheur !!! Rien
- Laila (10/5): Charming and lovely! - Oh the location! It is stunning! The views from the windows in the house are just magic. We even believe we saw a killer whale from the window in the livingroom.
Boddam has a charm to it like no other place we stayed at. The cottage is so lovely. The beds are super comfy, everything you need is present. The kitchen is well equipped and bathroom is very spacious. It is superclean and cosy. Supermarkets are very nearby and a lovely restaurant just around the corner at Seaview hotel where we had diner several times during our stay. Definitely highly recommend this beautiful cottage in a very charming village! Hope to come back in the future!
- Kathrin (8/5): Sehr schöner Aufenthalt. - Lage, Haus Ein Wäscheständer wäre schön gewesen sowie ein paar zusätzliche Kleiderhaken neben der Haustür und im Bad.
- Patricia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leslie (10/5): Lovely family stay - Beautiful cottage, done to a really high standard.
We loved the traditional cottage feel, with traditional stone walls but also with all mod cons.
Excellent location on the waterfront, our son loved the wee window in the upstairs bedroom where he could look out to sea.
Boddam is a lovely peaceful village with a lot of character.
Would stay again. Nothing
- Jessie (10/5): Exceptional - the peace and quiet with the wonderful view, combined with a beautiful warm comfy house and a lovely welcome pack ..... erm ... uhm .... nothing😄
- Marotto (10/5): Coastal solitude but close to all seaside towns and great hub for exploring - The location next to the sea and the little town Nothing
- Lynn (10/5): Perfect Puffin Cottage Stay - Puffin cottage is perfectly kitted out for all your needs. The house was spotless, the kitchen was well equipped, the rainfall shower was so refreshing and the sunshine and fresh air did us the world of good.
There's a wee gastro pub/motel called Seaview, around the corner selling amazing food (quite fancy, btw) with a wee beer garden out the back (entry via the carpark) and the staff provide amazing customer service.
About a 15 minute walk from the cottage is Braes Hotel where you can have a drink in the bar and have delicious meals in the dining room (first time my kids had their napkin placed on their lap), again - delicious locally sourced food which tastes amazing.
We've had a ball at puffin cottage.
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Danuta (10/5): Amazing place with very friendly owners. - Location was excellent and lovely view on the sea. Very comfortable and cosy cottage. Everything was excellent.
- David (9/5): Superb - Clean, comfortable, atmospheric seaside location Could do with a few more kitchen items such as teapot, caffetterie, sieve for draining pasta or rice.
There's nowhere to hang coats at the door so coat hooks in the hall would help, plus maybe some lamps for low level lighting in the living room to improve the ambience
- Donna (10/5): Exceptional - The location of Puffin cottage was perfect. The cottage was equipped with everything we needed . Everything was perfect
- Heather (10/5): A lovely peaceful break with breathtaking views. ✨️ - Location & position.
The cottage was furnished to a very high standard. Nothing
- Alistair (9/5): Superb -
- John (10/5): Very good stop over. - The location was fantastic, very clean and comfortable. NA
- Fiona (10/5): Best most chilled weekend. - Could not fault the cottage. It was so beautiful and extremely clean. The facilities had everything you'd need for your stay. Plenty of storage and space with the necessities provided along with a welcome basket. The beds were comfy and the shower was powerful. Not forgetting to mention the stunning location. Remote but also close enough to supermarkets and town if needed. Plenty of great walks around and the local chippy was the friendliest chippy I've ever been to! There was nothing we had to complain about.
- Caera (10/5): Relaxing stay - The cottage was cosy and clean, lovely location and fantastic views. It was out first trip away with our newborn and it was very relaxing and exactly what we needed. The host was fab and the information sent prior to arrival was spot on.
- Graeme (9/5): It's a great place to stay. - Comfy beds, very clean, modern bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, cosy living room with great view of the sea and lighthouse. Nice seating area outside. Plenty of storage in the bedrooms and bathroom. The welcome pack was a nice idea. Good location for us. we would definitely stay there again. Would have preferred to have larger towels supplied (without having to ask for these at a surcharge), Maybe I would take a dressing gown next time (with the bathroom being downstairs).
A couple of hooks (even in the cupboard in the kitchen) would have been great to hang our coats on to air/dry off.
The welcome pack was great and much appreciated, but it might be an idea to add a little carton of milk, maybe.
- Wendy (10/5): Super accommodation and location - Location lovely views, good parking.
- Elaine (10/5): Fantastic little town friendly local people - The location is breathtaking Very close to the rugged North Sea
The cottage was warm and clean with very comfortable beds lovely linen
There was a very detailed information folder and a welcome basket of food and drink
Great country pub close by serving the best fresh fish I liked everything
- Badder (10/5): Exceptional - The beds were so comfortable we were straight to sleep every night.
I loved watching the sea birds from the living room window every morning - advise to bring binoculars.
The kitchen was really well equipped and the welcome basket was such a thoughtful touch. We would love to return. Nothing, for us the stay was perfect.
- Neil (9/5): Nice location pretty and clean cottage would recommend to stay here - Location perfect for us to do some exploring around the area Not enough rubbish bins/ bags or toilet roll, the crockery a bit thin ie pizza slicer spatula etc pans , overall nice though . Bed a bit uncomfortable I think because mattress a bit too soft for us .
- Lynne (10/5): Had an excellent stay at cottage … well located to travel around the area … and cottage was great to return to in the ev - Cottage was exceptional ….clean/ well equipped and furnished / great location / good communication with host

- Laura (10/5): Relaxing - Beautiful cottage in lovely location. Trudy the host kept us updated on when we could check in and where to collect the keys and also provided a welcome pack. We loved our stay here and would definitely recommend. There was nothing we disliked.
- Lisa (9/5): Superb -
- Stephen (10/5): Amazing from start to finish - It was modernity decorated yet had original featured which we loved! The house had everything you need and lots of great information in the welcome pack! Very close to the lighthouse and fabulous walks, amazing views and fabulous hosts
- Jan (9/5): Stunning location. Beautiful cottage - Beautiful cottage in a stunning location. Property was very clean and comfortable. We had a great night sleep in a very comfortable bed. There was a basket of goodies left for us so that was a lovely touch. We loved it and hope to return in the future Just a very small thing but we would have liked somewhere to hang our coats in the hallway
- Sue (10/5): Beautiful cottage and so warm and cosy. Christmas tree too. Just perfect. - Lovely location, so clean and well equipped, perfect. nothing
- Gordon (10/5): A nice place to watch the sea and wildlife. - Location, side windows looked onto the North Sea to let us watch storm Babet safely. Wow. Cleanliness throughout. High quality fixings and fittings. Locals all friendly. Hosts very thorough with details of emergency contacts, points of interest in the area. Good quality food in restaurants nearby. Able to watch seals in the water from the cottage. Overall, cannot fault this property. Hosts have restored some of granite in both kitchen and living room to give the cottage a homely feel. Highly recommend and will definitely try to get back. Would recommend a visitor book.
- Sue (10/5): We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Puffin Cottage and would highly recommend - A spotlessly clean well equipped and comfortable cottage in a great location N/A
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional - The cottage has been beautifully renovated. The view from the living room is outstanding looking across to the sea and Buchan Ness,
The beds are extremely comfortable and it's in a quiet area so makes for a good night's sleep!
We were lucky enough to have good weather, so relaxing in the patio was a highlight.
The kitchen has everything you need for doing your own cooking.
We loved the welcome basket. That was a really nice touch.
It was a really good base for coastal walks. A walk on Rattray head beach, just north of Peterhead is a must!
The host Trudy could not have been more helpful and responded really quickly.

Most comfortable beds ever. Honestly was one of our bests stays at a cottage. Rooms were massive, everything very clean you couldnt ask for better Nothing can be faulted
