Guest Reviews
- Claire (7/5): - Loved the little hut, back to basics, beautiful countryside, beautiful hot showers and cabin was warm That kitchen was not good to cook. X1 butane burner, worse in the wind, wash anything you wanted to use from underneath the bench as it was coated in cobwebs and dirt. Maybe there was a tea towel but I couldn't find it and byo bath/shower matt. Your paying for the experience.
- Helen (5/5): It was an adventure. - It’s a pretty place. I appreciated that the dog was welcome, and l saw a wren on the balcony outside which was a lovely surprise, it being saint Stephen’s day. It really wasn’t a good place to be in December. It was very dark and extremely cold. Really needed a bit more wood and better insulation. There was a gap under the door and a very lightweight curtain over the window. My partner and l are middle aged and need to pee in the night so it just wasn’t right for us and we only managed the one night.
- Maria (10/5): - The bed was extremely comfortable and the log burner next to it made our stay perfect!
- frank (10/5): - Cozy and beautiful experience The set up
- Matthew (8/5): - Incredibly cosy, very comfortable bed, more than enough firewood and coal, peaceful place to stay with amazing views of the night sky, easy to find and access. Would stay here again if in the area. Only issue was the shower, the boiler didn't really kick in apart from two short bursts. Maybe it was me being daft but a cold shower helped wake me up in the morning anyways!
- kane (8/5): - Peaceful and serene
Little cabin wirh fire place in the room cosy and warm
Is what it is we love that lifestyle
Outhouse and outdoor shower
Get cold then run back into the warmth
Farm stay vibes nothing to complain about
Maybe the mattress was abit springy like could feel the wire springs a touch but like I said not meant to be 5 stars so thanks
Was great
- Simone (8/5): Toller Ort, alles so wie beschrieben. - Ein wunderschönes Plätzchen, tolle Gastgeberin und ruhige Lage. Der Preis hat uns schon überrascht.
- phil (8/5): peaceful, comfy, and away from it all - woodburner stove was the best bit a glass next to the outdoor sink would be good, and a slightly cleaner sink too, as this is where we wash our teeth and swallow our meds!
- Oonagh (8/5): Peaceful, rustic, comfortable. - Peaceful, rustic, well prepared and comfortable. The hut was authentic and all the facilities were eco-friendly, rustic but nicely done with everything provided ( milk, kettle, tea etc, a place to cook, outdoor firepit and chairs) and a log fire which I lit. It was a place to really get back to nature. I had a lovely stay. Perhaps a microwave in the cooking area just to heat meals up quickly.
- Amy (10/5): - I had the best sleep of my life here last night! The hut was so cozy and we had all the facilities to build a fire to cook dinner on.
Alison was great at giving directions before arrival so found the place with no trouble at all.
I am so pleased to have come across this place and already cannot wait to come back.
- Sarah (6/5): - This is a proper place to be environmental it's really lost next to fields
- Hiedi (7/5): -

- Tim (9/5): Lovely little spot - It’s lovely to stay on a farm, it was very peaceful, got your own place and it’s very private. It was really all good but it’s fairly rustic so don’t expect a hotel, it’s a cabin in the wild!
It’s a little bit hard to find so you need to be really aware of the instructions on the map, as long as you follow their instructions you will be fine.
- Fiona (10/5): A new experience, mini adventure. - Peace and quiet. It is exactly as it says, back to nature. Camping with a warm, comfy bed. You have all the facilities there you need. Bed and bathroom. Cooking and relaxing.
- Samantha (2/5): It was close to were I needed to be - The shower was hot Poor signage, poor lighting, didn’t with know with one I was staying in
Smelt musky
Towels were hard
Wasn’t enough logs for log burner and it was bloody cold night so froze
Bed was uncomfortable
Full of weeds
It was very poor
- Liam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Chloe (10/5): Cosy night stay - We had a lovely nights stay before a day at Castle Combe circuit just 15 minutes away. The hut was very cosy and warm, even without having to put the fire on. Bed was comfortable, and we had a lovely walk around in the evening. The kitchen had everything that we needed to cook dinner and breakfast. Nothing, everything was great
- Emily (10/5): I look forward to coming back in the summer when the farm is green and I can explore a little more! - I loved the wood fire stove, the bed was extremely comfortable, the porch to sit on in the morning was outstanding. It was a chilly night but I was fabulously cozy in the space. It was nice, too, to have the place completely to myself. I felt safe but peacefully alone. I wasn't clear before I reached Tormarten on how far the stay was from the village (about 2 miles by the road) - I walked in on foot and ended up arriving after dark, which made it hard to confirm I was in the right place. Luckily, I was able to knock on someone's door, they knew the property, and were kind enough to lend me a flashlight to find my room! After that, it was perfect.
- Andya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Linda (7/5): A unique property offering a great experience away from the norm . - We were looking for an environmental holiday that offered us something different to a conventional hotel and we definitely got that, the wood burner was set us ready to go when we arrived but we didn’t use it , the property kept a good temp inside for the mild weather on the outside .
Exceptional sunrise from
The hut a wonderful view on this working farm . It was a way to the toilet , if you got up in the night and the steps gown got a little slippery in the rain .
- Helen (10/5): Nice location, comfy stay - The location and the views! I also liked the toilet and shower as it gave the property a quirkiness. Water for the shower was like warm in the morning when it was freezing. Not the worst in the world but if I had to say something, it would be that.
- Armin (8/5): Very good - It was a lovely stay here. Very peacefull and we loved the wood stove in the house. a bit better description on the location on how to enter would have helped.
Also the sink could have been a bit cleaner and with a roof over it.
- Jodie (8/5): Very good - Lovely little place and great value for money. Free bag of wood and kindling .Dogs stay free of charge
- Klaudia (10/5): Cozy and relaxing place. - Very cozy and nice place to stay around beautifull nature.
Definietly a great cabin to stay away for a weekend to relax.
Lots of facilities including tools for a BBQ and fire.
The host was also friendly and great in communication.
- Photography (8/5): Very good - Absolutely lovely place with such lovely and welcoming hosts. Feel the toilets could be upgraded but overall not an issue
- George (8/5): Very good -
- Amie (10/5): Lovely quiet stay, dog friendly and quirky - Nice little shepherds hut! Really nice quiet farm which was dog friendly, relaxed and quiet. Had its own outdoor kitchen which we didn’t need but nice that it was there. Included a kettle and tea/coffee. The hut was clean and comfortable and characteristic! Hosts were lovely. Helpful and easy to contact!
- Rostron-parker (1/5): Bad - I did not actual stay there
Shower and toilet facilities disgusting .
- Hayley (8/5): Very good -
- Garner (10/5): Exceptional -
- Warren (8/5): Great outdoors, star gazing by the fire - The outdoor, rustic, farm house living was as advertised. We wanted a quiet retreat to switch off from the city to go go and we go that at Shirehill. We spent the day in Bath and came back to Shirehill at 16:30 and had a lovely evening. We went for a hike through the valley following the map provided and bonded with sheep, horses and nature ☺️ Nothing, it was better than expected. Minimal, outdoor and peaceful.
- Carolina (10/5): Beautiful place - Lovely place to stay and connect with nature :)
Amazing and very kind host!
- Leah (10/5): Perfect relaxing get away - So relaxing and lovely Nothing
- Rebecca (10/5): Exceptional - Loved how cosy it was and very comfortable bed. No light in toilets but not complaining as all round amazing
- Adam (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful little hut, well located near Bath. Extremely cosy, kept lovely and warm with the log burning stove.
- Jason (7/5): Good -
- Sarah (10/5): Fun - Comfy bed, good space for the dog to run around, free biscuits. Fun experience. It’s small.
- Hannah (8/5): Great little place for a couple of nights - The bed was comfy, and the fire was a great addition . Good communication with the host. The shower and toilets need to be cleaned, could do with more lighting in the toilets aswell as on the outside.
The kitchen was a good addition but again the pots underneath need a clean
- Barnaby (9/5): An exciting place to stay compared to endless chain hotels. - Places like this are what's great about sites like booking.com, it is such a quaint and exciting place to stay.
The shepherd's hut was so warm with just 1 log in the fire. My wife was delighted just to be here away from it all. The owners were great to respond to enquiries and help us check in without being at all intrusive once we were there. The shower was a little tepid but surely this is all part of a rustic experience.
- Tessa (9/5): Superb - Clean and cosy
- Richard (6/5): Did not know what to expect but stay was great fun - Rustic Fun Outside toilet
- Domas (1/5): Bad - 0 nothing advertised room with private bathroom .in fact toilet and shower 20 meters from the house in the field and only can be used in summer
- Dave (6/5): Quaint little shepherd's hut but shared toilet facilties NOT exclusive. Inadequate signage. - Quaint shepherd's hut on wheels. Compact and very cosy with a wood burner. Tea making facilities and free biscuits. Pets allowed. Free car parking on site. Working farm.
n.b. Your booking.com feedback on staff should include a "n/a" option - as we met no staff. Advert on bkg.com reads "a private bathroom boasting a walk-in shower." and "In your private bathroom:"
but we had to share with people in another cabin This was NOT PRIVATE". Had we known the shower and toilet were not private we would not have booked. To reach shower/toilet we had to walk around a greenhouse between fields in the dark - this was not stated on booking.com.
Directions were inadequate.
Signage on gate was picturesque = very small and cream on cream - but not informative. Venue should be described as "Shirehill Barns, Shirehill Farm" situated on the Tomarton Road, itself. (Shirehill Farm is actually down a side road where we went first) with entrance from the main road, not a small lane where the actual Shire Hill Farm is situated.
Needs a big sign on the gate of the Barns vicble to tenants coming from both directions.
- Ruth (10/5): Exceptional - Fabulous quirky little shepherd's hut and the tipi, amazing outdoor kitchen. Comfy bed in the shepherd's hut and child/husband reported good bed in the tipi. Gutted about the weather, so we couldn't take advantage of the views and all the facilities. I forgot cookomgnoi but had equipment to use and the odd thing like salt. Would have liked some instructions on the toilet/sawdust usage.
- Penny (7/5): I loved my shepherds hut with its eco credentials and very comfortable bed. - Loved the very comfortable shepherds hut, the stars in the evening, books in the hut, view from the raised “veranda” I would have liked some lighting in the toilet, it was a bit creepy at night balancing a torch on the floor (and a simple wooden catch on the inside of the door).
The information folder had been wet at some point so was hard to read: a bit more info about the venue and walks from the door would be really useful. Simple things like telling us where the hot water tap was and are all the cold taps drinking water?
- Christine (8/5): Very good - Sunrise over the cornfield!
Plenty of places to sit
Great tea, coffee & biscuits provided The poly tunnel next to us!
Proximity of the road.
- Emily (8/5): Very good -
- Francesca (9/5): Nice glamping pioneer-style - Very. nice place for a different leve of camping, in the wild and nature. Excellent hospitality form Alison and her friends. Be prepared to appreciate the simple pleasures of basic life.
- Patterson (10/5): Great experience that the kids loved - The shepherds hut was very cozy and the kids loved staying in the tent. It was so dark for star watching I’ve actually forgotten how dark it can get at night with no lights. Very peaceful It was a bit scary going to the toilet at night in the pitch black
- James (10/5): A wonderful place to press the ‘pause’ button. - Thank you to Alison for creating such an idyllic glamping setting while also keeping nature, farming and wilding in mind. It’s a small site with basic facilities but everything you need is there. The long view to the horizon is wonderful and on a clear night, the star-scape is spectacular. The pitch is near a country road and overnight passing traffic can be noisy.
- Craig (8/5): Very good -
- Lauren (7/5): Good -
- Jade (10/5): Peaceful night away - Lovely setting, really enjoyed our stay I couldn’t find a fault
- David (10/5): Exceptional - I like the sat nav took me straight there, they allow dogs and there was lots of space to walk the dogs and the stars came out at night. Did not get to use tepee, but looked lovely Good description online, so I knew what to expect so there was nothing I did not like.
- Suzanne (5/5): Won’t go again - Quiet. Toilets smelled, wasn’t keen on the ‘welcome’ couldn’t let dogs off lead, not particularly neat and tidy surrounds, postcode given did not go to accommodation, no one answering the door or phone, actual accommodation then hard to find.
- P (8/5): Very good -
