Guest Reviews
- Michael (9/5): Brandreth Barn overnight stay - Peaceful location. Very comfortable bed in room 4. The breakfast was exceptional. Quite noisy above us until the occupants settled down. But it's an old barn so not going to be insulated like newer buildings.
- Sue (8/5): Super place to stay and thoroughly recommend! - Super, friendly staff. Everything beautifully clean. Wonderful food (we had breakfast and lunch). Unfortunately it was unseasonally cold and we could have done with the heating on. I'm sure if we had asked the hosts, they would have helped - they were so lovely.
- Caroline (9/5): Comfortable room in a great location. - Great location for birdwatchers. Comfortable room, good breakfast.
- Samantha (9/5): Lovely - Lovely quirky
Margaret v attentive
Lovely breakfast
- sacha (10/5): Lovely guest house and tea room right near the nature reserve I came to visit - Gorgeous room and amazing food in the tea room That I didn’t stay longer to sample the food !
- Lee (9/5): More than happy with our stay. - Clean. Comfortable bed. Nice breakfast and staff. Check in arrangement wasn’t clear but it was soon sorted.
- Anthony (7/5): Nice, quiet, clean place. Late breakfast not really suitable for a business stay. - Nice room, clean, good facilities. Quiet location. Tea available in room. Wifi good. Normal breakfast not available until 09:00, which wasn't helpful, but they made cereal and fresh milk available.
- Michael (10/5): A great place to stay in the heart of beautiful countryside - Rustic, clean and comfortable. Staff were amazing and a lovely breakfast. Decor was I keeping with the farms surrounding the area
- Judith (9/5): - Excellent breakfast. Very convenient for WWT Martin Mere
- Neil (10/5): Lovely, friendly place to stay - Felt immediately at home. Spacious, comfortable bed, fabulous breakfast. We liked everything
- Kim (10/5): Very relaxing, everything provided in the room. - Tasty quality food for traditional English breakfast. Cereals and fresh juices available. Quick service too. Can't think of anything.
- Michael (9/5): - I found the place very homely
- Jane (10/5): A lovely stay with warm and welcoming hosts. - Margaret and all the staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The breakfast was really tasty, and nothing was a bother. The room was spotless and very well-appointed. Lots of lovely decorative touches throughout the property. Really enjoyable.
- Juan (10/5): - Lovely Granny there!!! Beautiful people for a beautiful place! Thnx for all!
- Dave (10/5): - Beautiful and quiet area, clean and spacious rooms and staff are very polite and hospitable Not a lot of parking but I’m really picking at straws to find anything
- Robert (8/5): definitely worth a visit - Very friendly and attentive staff, nice clean room and a good breakfast. For me personally, the mattress was a little hard and the room could have done with blackout curtains as I'm a light sleeper.
- Jay (10/5): One night break - Location close to Martin mere lovely staff and breakfast will come again N/A
- Marian (9/5): - This location is so convenient for visiting WWT Martin Mere, and I am sure I'll be back, and bring my friends! I enjoyed a very comfortable stay, the room was a nice size, and everything worked (which is unusual in my experience!). There was a lovely hospitality tray, lots of tea/coffee/milk etc, a large TV and a nice en suite. The bed and pillows provided were just perfect for me. Breakfast was delicious and filling, and served by such friendly staff. Very little to find fault with! Just two minor things: the shower appeared to have just one position, which was overhead, and I didn't wish to wash my hair, so I didn't use it. Breakfast was not until 9am, which was rather late for me, but perhaps I could have requested an earlier one.... anyway, I won't be put off from visiting again, as the Barn and rooms are lovely.
- William (9/5): Considering we were attending a funeral principally, the stay was relaxing, - The owner was lovely. The breakfast was well presented and tasty. The room was very clean and comfortable. A very nice stay and we would happily stay again. There was nothing to dislike at all. It was conveniently placed for Burscough and the crematorium as we were unfortunately up for a funeral.
- Susan (10/5): - The room was spacious with everything we required. The breakfast was exceptional with a great choice for all people. Nothing
- philip (10/5): - Staff were wonderful very accommodating and the room was lovely .food fabulous we are already looking at staying again later in the year. Nothing.
- Alshirl (10/5): Friendly, comfortable and delicious breakfasts. - Really nice hosts, Very homely warm rooms, hot showers and amazing breakfasts. Everything was excellent.
- Jakub (9/5): -
- Smith (5/5): - Very friendly and helpful. Ran out of milk and no semi skimmed in the fridge. Could have done with a bit of heat in the bathroom.
No separate power point for the kettle in bedroom.

- Jay (10/5): - Loved the accomodation and breakfast ideal nights break away N/a
- lynne d (6/5): -
- Susan (7/5): Spacious room, comfy beds. - The room was spacious and ckean, the beds were comfy, the breakfast was good. The central heating was not on so the bathroom was cold. There was a convector heater in thd bedroom which warmed that room. It also meant there was nowhere to dry towels.
- Eric (10/5): Warm, comfortable, great staff - Great place to stay to visit the local Nature Reserve Nothing
- Colette (6/5): Good breakfast but rooms could be better - Location was great for our needs as we were attending a party near by. Breakfast was lovely and they catered for my needs as a ceoliac. Staff very polite and helpful. Room was on the ground floor and was not private. The houses opposite could see right in the room. We needed to close the curtains. The room was very tired which in itself may not be so bad but it wasn't very clean. There was dust, cobwebs, mould and rust in the bathroom. The radiators weren't working and we had a small plug in heater. The water was barely hot enough for a shower in the evening. We had not water in the morning. When we mentioned this to staff we were told next day that the boiler was problematic.
- Lisa (10/5): - Clean, comfortable and friendly staff. Lovely and cosy entrance. Toilet seat was slack and toilet had noise of water which went on for a while after you flushed but still a great room.
- rob (9/5): Lovely place and fantastic host. - Very homely atmosphere with all you would need for an overnight stay. We met the host at breakfast and she was both welcoming and friendly. The breakfast in the tea shop was lovely and more than we could eat or wish for. Will be staying again in the future. Nothing.
- Kerry (8/5): My daughter was visiting the the university and this was perfect we will use again. - Easy to find, clean and friendly Very nice and we enjoyed the stay
- Sarah Prytherch (7/5): -
- Andrew (10/5): Family run fun B&B ! - Margaret is an exceptional hostess, always available for assistance, with a smile. Her colleagues are much the same, very hepful. Breakfasts are excellent. Would certainly return, and we highly recommend this B&B
- Roger (10/5): A home from home in every which way ! - When I first walked in, I thought I’d walked into somebody’s home, and after two nights and three days I certainly felt like I was at home. Aunty Mary, that I learned she is affectionately known as by the locals was the perfect host and Meghan, her granddaughter was extremely helpful finding me a route back to Glasgow and secure the last seat on the bus when the train was cancelled.
- Samuel (9/5): -
- williamson (10/5): - secluded , peaceful and cleanly abit difficult to get ubers
- David (10/5): - What an absolute gem of a place - was easy to find, had plenty of parking spaces, entrance was gorgeous as it was halloween and all decked up, there was a nice big bathroom and comfy beds. To top it off the breakfast was superb - cooked to perfection. Will definitely stay here again.
- Joanne (9/5): - Cosy and comfortable. Fabulous breakfast and welcoming owner.
- Tyrrell (10/5): -
- Marion (10/5): - Lovely, comfortable, quirky, quite, friendly with a great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend, we would stay there again. 0000000
- Paul (10/5): Most enjoyable 😁 - Booking.com Gluten free breakfast, use of a fridge. Lovely staff and great food.
- Bev (8/5): -
- L Grace (9/5): Highly recommended for a comfortable stay. - This was a good traditional B&B. The rooms are comfortably furnished and the shower was hot. The breakfast was exceptionally good, both for the meat feast of the Full English Breakfast, but also for the Full Vegetarian. The location is perfect for visiting WWT Martin Mere which is an easy 10 minute walk away on a pavement and then a footpath next to the storks.
There is also a popular tea room in the building with delicious, huge cakes. They also do a Sunday Roast and lunches.
- Frank (8/5): Friendly B&b - Quiet and slightly quirky B&B, a mile out of Burscough (plenty time f pubs and restaurants). Lots of interesting ornaments, furnishings and old objects around the place. Nice tearoom where breakfast is served. Nothing was too much trouble for landlady Margaret, who was lovely. Lots of parking. No complaints. A couple more signs regarding which entrance to use would have been helpful.
- Helen (9/5): Lovely place very remote but would need decent weather to enjoy it - Lovely quirky property with lots of personal touches Nothing
- Susan (9/5): Welcoming and friendly staff, comfortable clean bed, excellent breakfast. - Full of character and very homely Nothing
- Susan (10/5): -
- Lauren (10/5): - Lovely cottage feel and fantastic breakfast
- David (9/5): Excellent - Good location, breakfast, parking,
Incredibly friendly and helpful staff,
Interesting conversations with hosts,

- Loretta (10/5): Perfect - Everything we wanted.
- John (10/5): A lovely country B@B. - very good breakfast plenty of food options .
- Jo (9/5): Fantastic stay - Home from home, clean comfortable and lovely decorations .All facilities were thought of tea and coffee in the room even some biscuits. It was a very hot weekend and when we asked Margaret for a fan she found one immediately for our room nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was fresh hot and presented lovely with a good choice of food .Staff are all friendly and happy to chat . Its hard to find anything but if we had to pick something the beds are quite hard and the road can be quite noisy , unfortunately we had a very noisy inconsiderate neighbour above us but all this doesn't reflect on Margeret and the team.
- Ethan (10/5): -
- Diana (9/5): Good value for money - Lovely peaceful location and easy to find. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choices and well cooked. There was no non slip mat for the bath when using the shower, this could have been easily provided. I have slipped and fallen in the bath on a recent holiday so am a bit cautious
- Shaheda (9/5): Had a fantastic stay and would return. - It was in a beautiful setting, so peaceful with lots of vintage / quaint features.
Comfortable beds.
Lovely selection of magazines. Wonderful friendly staff, there was a fridge in reception and animals for my daughter to enjoy - she fed an apple to the resident donkey.
Lovely biscuits/ crisps / tea / coffee. There were limited sockets in the bedroom to charge the phone, and could have done with some body wash - however there was shampoo, conditioner and two lots of handwash.
Batteries not working in the TV remote but that didn’t matter so much.
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pam (9/5): It was quiet, enjoyable, comfortable with friendly service. - excellent breakfast I would have liked a bedside table instead of the rocking chair.
- Suzanne (9/5): Superb - Friendly host's, comfortable rooms and amazing breakfast
- Josie (10/5): Exceptional - Relaxed and comfortable, very clean and fresh. Excellent breakfast. Great host
- Ian (5/5): Elsewhere accommodation like this would struggle at this price level. - Good breakfast. Quiet location. Generally a tired and dated feel. Family room so there were extra beds but little else. 1 chair and a desk.
- Gwyneth (8/5): Margaret was a lovely host. She got us a fan because the room was hot - Good sized bedroom Curtains not lined so very light early morning
- Daphne (9/5): Excellent stopping point to break along journey - Easy to access in a quiet location Comfortable and attractive room provided everything for our needs and comfort.
Good breakfast provided at the time of our request. There was nothing to dislike.
- Speke (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nigel (8/5): Very good -
- Andrew (9/5): Great accommodation in a pleasant setting - Easy parking and access.
Very comfortable bed.
Lovely breakfast N/A
- Jessica (8/5): Very good -
- Borislava (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christine (9/5): Outstanding customer care. - We stayed 2 nights at Brandreth barn and were most impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of the owner, Margaret, and her staff.
we needed an early start to attend a funeral the next day so requested an early breakfast and Margaret happily cooked this for us herself.
After our first night I mentioned to her that we had a couple of niggles: no mirror to do hair and makeup and the lack of a grab rail and nonslip mat in the shower. I’m a bit unsteady and do fear falling.
When we returned to the room that evening we found that a large free standing mirror was now on the window sill and a grab rail had been fitted in the shower! How is that for really first class service?
Breakfasts were excellent as was the lunch we had in the tearoom our first day.
We would definitely recommend this place as a comfortable and friendly place to stay. Thankyou Margaret
- Dave (9/5): Superb - Quiet. Friendly staff. Great breakfast.
- Murdo (10/5): An excellent stay! - Character, 3 bed room, lots to see in area, excellent breakfast and lovely owners.
- Julia (8/5): Very good -
- Peter (7/5): Friendly place, roof over our heads and comfortable bed. Breakfast lovely. Room clean. functional. - The proprietor and staff were very kind and helpful. Breakfast was very nice in pleasant surroundings. Our room and bathroom were big enough and comfortable bed. The decor and fittings were tired and really in need of a facelift, wall paper coming off, flickering bedside light and generally a poor standard of decor. For the price we paid (£95) it was not value for money and so much could be done to improve the stay. It was a bed/room for the night and it sufficed but not an uplifting experience.
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional - Nice homely, welcoming b&b - it was a pleasure to stay.
- Barbara (10/5): highly recommend stay - Breakfast excellent
Very relaxing accommodation- come and go as you please , key was left in the door for us. no complaints
- Abigail (7/5): Loved our stay, had just what we needed. Lovely people and great breakfast too! - Very homely, friendly and welcoming. Easy parking and access as and when needed. Some elements a little tired (peeling paint in bathroom for example).
- Stephen (10/5): Very relaxing - What a lovely Friendly hostess and very helpful. We enjoyed our stay and loved the building, the bed was very comfortable and we had a peaceful night. I would definitely recommend Brandreth Barn
- Nicola (8/5): Would recommend we had a delightful time - The host was lovely and very helpful and the rooms and
Breakfast were great All good
- Alison (10/5): Exceptional - Most reviews of other hotels & B&B's say the breakfast was excellent, in my experience, they rarely are. However, the full cooked English breakfast here at Brandreth Barn WAS excellent. Proper fresh brewed coffee, quality ingredients, good choice of cereals and toast toppings, served by the lovely Margaret.
The Barn is quaint, and the room was comfortable with a spacious bathroom and tons of hot water. Good tea & coffee facilities in the room, and fresh milk and juice in a communal fridge was a nice touch. Breakfast service didn't start until 9pm, which was a bit late for us, however, it was worth the wait.
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely room, beds exactly as we needed them and a good sized bathroom with bath, great breakfast options (sausages were amazing!) and we were only sorry we didn’t have time to stay for lunch/cakes! Margaret and her team were very helpful too. No complaints!
- Ali (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely and peaceful.
- Paula (7/5): Good -
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional - Margaret was a lovely friendly host. We would definitely stay there again. The tearoom was an extra bonus lovely food and great homemade cakes 🎂 We loved everything
- Lyn (9/5): Lovely. Really enjoyed it! - Friendly people. Very clean. Very welcoming. Fab breakfast. Rural location. Radiator in bathroom didn’t work!
- Rachel (8/5): Very good -
- Mark (8/5): Comfy bed ,lots of hot water for a bath and excellent breakfast. - Breakfast was delicous and plenty of choice.
- Jowitt (10/5): felt very well looked after throughout - welcoming and had every amenity we needed nothing
- Margaret (8/5): Very good - My room felt really cold when I arrived! Fine once the heating came on at six!
- Samuel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Janet (10/5): Overnight Stay on a Working Farm - We had a ground floor which was a great size with comfy beds. The bathroom was also a good size with plenty of towels and toiletries provided. There was also plenty of tea and coffee sachets. The breakfast was lovely with a breakfast menu and other items to help yourself too. The food was cooked to order and was tasty and hot. Checking in and checking out was a very easy process. N/A
