Guest Reviews
- Berit (9/5): - It was cozy and a great view. There wasn't anything
- Karen (10/5): Lucy's getaway surprise. - A hidden gem here in Northern Ireland.
The views were amazing and we came to the shepards hut for our granddaughter's birthday. She is 4 and absolutely loved the whole time she was there. As did I and my husband.
The fire pit was the highlight of the stay.
The hut was immaculate inside and out
And absolutely spotless and really well laid out inside. Every space has got a little home.
I ordered cupcakes from Stephanie for Lucy and they were amazing. Half were gluten free because I'm a coeliac and there wasn't one left. Delicious from Rachel Bakes.
Daft Eddie's was a stone throw away so really handy for a meal out.
We loved our stay here and will definitely be back. And the sunrise the next morning was beautiful.
So all in all a piece full relaxing stay. There was nothing not to like.
- BelLou82 (10/5): The perfect paradise to escape it all! - A little piece of Heaven on earth! So tranquil and peaceful. The view was spectacular, and the outdoor area really helped to make the most of it. Sitting around the fire with hot chocolates and s'mores, watching the lights twinkle below was just lovely! Inside the hut, everything is worked to perfection, making the absolute best use of space. The bed is so cosy, and it was lovely and warm, even on a cool day. Staying here is like a soothing balm for the soul. We will definitely be back! Not a criticism at all, and just purely personal preference, but an 11am check-out would make this absolutely perfect, just to allow for a slower, calmer morning.
- Clara (10/5): -
- Deborah (10/5): -
- Amy (10/5): Clean, peaceful and relaxing! - Loved the whole experience. The bed was comfy, the place was clean and the fire with marshmallows just topped it off! Nothing!
- Joe (10/5): Unreal - Very cosy property clearly well looked after! Staff was very kind!
- Lisa (10/5): A perfect overnight stay filled with comfort and incredible scenery. - Bought as an early Christmas gift for my daughter and her partner, and it turned out to be perfect. They loved the peaceful cabin, the beautiful views, and especially watching the sunset and sunrise. It was such a memorable overnight getaway and exactly the kind of experience I hoped to give them. No issues at all. Everything was exactly as described, and the stay was smooth, comfortable, and enjoyed from start to finish.
- JIYEON (10/5): Couldn’t have been better. - Perfect stay with an amazing view. If only we could have stayed one more night! Nothing
- Danielle (8/5): Lovely stay with a beautiful view - Beautiful accommodation
Great communication from host
Lovely location
Very relaxing stay Driveway to the hut was a bit narrow and overgrown
- Sara (10/5): Beautiful - Peaceful, clean and in an outstanding location
- callum (10/5): Very cosy with great views. - Very cosy. Ideal for a couple and a dog. Located on the shore with great views. Only downside was weather during our visit. Would highly recommend staying as different from the norm.
- Peter (9/5): Just what we needed! - Lovely and cozy, with a superb view! Nothing really!
- Catherine (10/5): -
- Cheryl (9/5): - Lovely little place near the Whiterock bay. Very peaceful and great location if you like water activities and swimming. Killinchy is a favourite spot of mine. Nothing
- Lucy (10/5): When can we come back? - We loved everything about the property. The location was perfect and the views were spectacular. The little hut was so well thought out and we have really relaxing stay. We just wish we’d stayed for longer. N/A
- Beate (10/5): Very cosy hut in a beautiful and calm spot overlooking the lake - a perfect place to relax - Beautiful spot, confortable and cosy hut, firepit with great view on the lake and marshmallows for the fire All great. Perfect for two nights for a family of 4 (and for longer when only 2 people)
- Macdonald (10/5): Exceptional - Great place to stay.
views are amazing
will definitely be back
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Shepard (10/5): Idyllic! (If you can, stay longer.) - "All Good! Really nice stay. Would like to do it again."
Actually understating our impression of our very brief stay.
Highly, highly recommended! Thanks, Stephanie! Well. On the one hand, WiFi was, for the most part, non-existent. Is that a problem? From where we stand, the privacy, the whole experience, is getting back to what we really should be appreciating? Isn't it? Spectacular views of nature, tranquil setting, absolute attention to detail in the amenities, the best service. So, this comment actually needs to belong in the above category. Who needs WiFi, when you have this place?! Thank you for bringing us back.
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steve (10/5): Lovely spot, really quiet and relaxing. Beautiful views across the bay and Steph is a great host! 10/10 -
- Meena (10/5): Fabulous - A chic hideaway with stunning views of the lough. A few mins walk away from a fantastic pub restaurant Daft Eddie’s.
- Kelly (10/5): So comfortable and relaxing, we will be back - The shepherds hut is finished to a very high standard, so comfortable and everything u need, beautiful views, quiet and relaxing
- Deirdre (10/5): A truly unique gem, I would highly recommend staying here! - The hut was stunning and exceeded our expectations! Very high quality finish, clean, warm, cosy and beautifully furnished. It had everything that you could possibly need. The bed was so comfy that I didn’t want to go back to my own! The children really loved their bunk beds and the extra touches like the marshmallows, teddies and mini football pitch with balls and goals set up outside.
The location was beautiful, breathtaking views of the lough, rural and peaceful, yet a stone’s throw from a local restaurant. The outdoor fire pit and seating area was beautiful, you could sit there all day and not tire of the views.
Our host Stephanie was lovely and very accommodating! Nothing.
- Leona (9/5): Absolutely wonderful stay, we will be back! - The view from the cabin was incredible and we loved the outdoor fire and grill. It’s an exceptional little cabin with the beauty of Strangford Lough on your door step and a great little pub restaurant across the road. We were so cozy even on a rough windy and rainy night. Steph and the family are the most welcoming of people that you will meet. There was nothing we didn’t like about our stay. It was 1st class. Few things probably to be aware of; It’s is very small so space is limited. If you come bearing this in mind, you will be grand. Leave what you don’t immediately need in the car. It’s got all you need for a few days of quiet where you can let nature envelop you. Fridge is a great size considering how small the kitchen area is. There is a portable induction hob but no oven so also bear this in mind when bringing food. There was tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits. Bathroom is compact but doesn’t feel cramped.
- Lynsey (9/5): Superb - Everything was beautiful, clean and outside area was lovely. The host was lovely and kept in contact should we have needed anything. The marshmallows/smores provided were a nice gesture for my kids! I would say it's best suited for couples. The weather was bad and we were forced indoors. We found it a little claustrophobic for a family of 4, and my daughter actually went home after 1 night. Only other thing was the WiFi wasn't good and no TV.
- Jenny (9/5): Superb - Lovely shepherd's hut - very clean, cosy and well-equipped. Would have been very easy to stay here for a few days if we'd had more time, and a nice base for exploring the Lough.
Was lovely for 2. We particularly enjoyed the extra touches of materials for the fire and marshmallows to toast! Good shower too. The hut was a bit closer to the main house than we were expecting but it still felt quiet and enclosed in our own wee zone.
- Helen (10/5): Beautiful & restful wend away exploring the west coast of the Lough - It’s in a beautiful and peaceful location with wonderful view over the Lough Nothing
- Stewart (10/5): Exceptional -
- Catherine (10/5): Fantastic quirky accommodation in an amazing location!!! - I went with a group of friends and we loved everything about the accommodation. The hut was clean, very well kitted out and had everything we needed. It’s so comfortable and cosy.
We loved the views and the outside area where we sat and enjoyed a fire and a few drinks.
The shepherds hut is only a very short walk from a lovely bar and restaurant which is only an island.. definitely worth a visit.
Steph was amazing. Very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. Nothing!! We loved it all!!
- Caughey (9/5): Fantastic - The whole experience was fantastic. Steph was always on hand, but never in the way. The accommodation was spotless, cosy, and just what we'd hoped for. As there was no TV, the only slight downside was that the Internet signal wasn't great. Just to give the kids another alternative.
- Aaron (10/5): Exceptional - Everything about the Ballydorn Stay was excellent. Perfect little place for a family break away would definitely highly recommend to anyone We couldn’t fault anything with the place
- Taran (9/5): Superb -
- Martin (9/5): Superb - Amazing facilities and location.
- Alanna (10/5): Perfect little hide away from a busy work week. - Stunning view and a beautiful little cabin. Just the mini break we needed. Nothing comes to mind! We had everything we needed!
- Sarah (10/5): We will 100% be back. The owner is very responsive and the property/location is outstanding! - Set in a lovely location, quirky, decorated to a high standard, the owner has thought of everything! Absolutely nothing. Not one bad thing to say.
- Ruth (9/5): Had a lovely time! - It was so peaceful. The outside area was great lots of space and the Shepherd’s hut was well thought out. Super comfy bed. Everything was great.
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Michelle (10/5): Lovely view! - Lovely setting friendly service very clean.
- Lynsey (9/5): Lovely stay at Balloydorn - We had a lovely stay at Ballydorn, the accommodation was super comfortable and cosy! Everything we needed for our stay was provided.
- Arlene (10/5): A Romantic Oasis in County Down - Such a perfect little oasis. Steph is a marvellous hostess and has thought of every little detail to make a stay here perfect. As a couple we found the setting really romantic. The bed was so comfy and toasty and we loved lying relaxing listening to the wind and rain. It's superbly insulated and the decor is so tasteful. We purchased add ons of the breakfast pack and Rachel Bakes cupcakes. Utterly delicious. Bonus that our dog was able to come too 😊
We had dinner on the Saturday night in Daft Eddie's which is a short walk from the property. It was fabulous too. (Just make sure you pre book a reservation as it can get busy) There is nothing we disliked and in fact we will definitely return!
- Annabelle (10/5): Exceptional, immaculate, glamping with all the creature comforts of home. - Steph has created a luxurious mini home with stylish details an incredible kitchen and kitted out with everything you could possibly want. With the addition of the bell tent, you could easily holiday for a week with 2 families. View and area is second to none! We are already looking to book again for next summer.
- Tine (9/5): Superb - Nice caravan close to Steph’s private recidence. Nice surroundings with good walks and a nice pub close by. 😊
- Oskars (10/5): Exceptional -
- Josh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lynne (10/5): Great wee hut - I surprised my husband with a night in the shepherd’s hut for his birthday. The accommodation is very stylish, immaculately clean, everything you need. The view is stunning. We had a lovely meal in Daft Eddy’s. The weather, but not much you can do about that 😀
- Isaline (10/5): Perfect stay - The view is incredible. The place is spotless! There is everything you need. We made some unforgettable souvenirs with my toddler lighting up the fire and eating the marshmallows.
