Guest Reviews
- Alessandra (10/5): - Bellissimo lodge fuori dal centro di Orchha (c'è il servizio con rickshaw per essere portati in centro) immersa nel verde e con accesso al fiume!
Camera ampia e pulita, dotata di tutti i comfort.
Personale molto gentile.
Colazione ottima.
- LIZZY (10/5): - Beautiful setting on the river. Tables set out for breakfast by the River- very well done. Room was lovely - again great view (upstairs). Staff were helpful and looked after us. Road to property was very rough and did it several times a day in a tuktuk as it was too hot to walk. In house dinner was way overpriced compared with restaurants in town.
Manager molto attento e professionale
- Mark (9/5): Good option in Orccha - Nice large comfortable room, good shower, beautiful breakfast location by the river. Friendly helpful staff. It’s out of town, but nice and quiet and tuk tuks are cheap and easily available. Nothing
- Dnyaneshwari (7/5): Good location but not value for money. - Beautiful river view location. Everything was very clean. The stands for keeping bags were extremely uncomfortable/ unsuitable. We had to keep bags on the floor to pack / unpack. There was no table beside the chairs for having tea. No room cleaning was done during the stay. In the bathroom there were face towels in place of hand towels. The food was expensive.
- Phiroze Fardoon (9/5): - Charming place. Set in the fields just outside Orchha. On the riverbank. Very friendly and helpful staff Neighboring property was noisy playing loud music
- Richard (9/5): Good choice for Orchha - Lovely location; breakfast by the river was marvellous!; helpful staff; comfortable room. We ate there twice and the food was excellent both times. There were wild peacocks wandering around the gardens and flying over the river! To be aware, it is a walk to the Fort. Of course you can take a car or tuk tuk (we didn't as we liked the walk). And at night the wedding venues in the area do play very loud music. It didn't bother us because it stopped before we wanted to sleep. Of course other hotels will experience the same noise.
- Nicoletta (8/5): Piacevole sorpresa , colazione in riva al fiume - La stanza con vista sul fiume Nulla
- Theofilos (6/5): Nice but not good value for money - Peaceful, clean, nice view to the river, polite people Away form centre and road access not v good - Prices need to be reduced by 50% at minimum - way too expensive for what it offers
- Narayanswamy (10/5): Hopefully I can revisit this property - Amazing ambience, delicious food and wonderful hospitality
- Kochale (6/5): Pleasant -
- Nagaraju (8/5): Very good -
- Luz (9/5): Rustic beautiful room - Staff was very nice and of good help.
They made delicious parathas for breakfast 👌
The room was beautiful, colonial style, and had a great view.
Everything was clean and the AC worked perfectly. The room was hot and warm all the time, due to all the sunlight coming from the large window, but it can be managed with fans and AC in the room.
- Deborah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rajarshi (9/5): Superb -
- Nina (9/5): A great place to relax by the betwa river - Lovely location by the river, and delicious freshly prepared food. If you stay make sure you eat there. Helpful staff and a great place to relax by the river and do nothing. It is located a distance out of the main town , that’s why it’s peaceful so an auto is needed . Check if there are weddings going on in adjoining resorts if you worry about loud music.
- Ashish (10/5): Exceptional - Its a great property with an awesome location. Highly recommended. The staff is super helpful and the food prepared was awesome. Wish we had more time there.
- Ann (10/5): Exceptional - This is a hidden gem, located on the banks of the river Betwa.
The house is very tastefully decorated and the rooms are spacious and comfy.
Although we arrived late, we could enjoy a hearty dinner of dal and rice with some salad and chapatis. The vegetables are organically grown on this 4-acre farm. We highly recommend this place. You can combine a visit to Ochhra with the peaceful environment on the river bank.
- Vinita (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was great...the location, the room, the staff...& the food! Quite the gem!
- Bramgali (9/5): Superb - Beautiful site, beautiful riverside Marriage party next door!
- Vainav (8/5): Very good -
- Deborah (9/5): Don’t miss this place! - The wonderful location of this hotel transformed my stay in Orchha, the peace, the good taste, the murmur of the river, the super attentive staff, the delicacy of the food, incredible, I recommend it!! They could invest in better amenities, and use more of the wonderful outdoor space
- Shankar (8/5): Very good - The place is a little outside the centre of Orchha and the room itself is very spacious and together with the en-suite, is tastefully decorated. It is also nice to be able to stroll down to the river to walk amongst the rocks and boulders. The WiFi may not work sometimes, but that is not the fault of the hotel.
- Jemini (8/5): Very good - Absolutely wonderful location with river views. Peaceful and quiet. Not far from the centre. Welcoming staff who were so helpful. We had the river view rooms which are worth the extra.
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Prashant (10/5): Excellent break for a family, including children - Great location, offbeat but still with all the comforts. Good food and general sense of sukoon Cant really think of anything. This is a homestay. So one should be prepared for non hotel experience
- Mark (9/5): Superb - Very tranquil spot. Pleasant staff. Also very flexible for changing dates and late check out. Both very much appreciated ☺️
Interior period furniture is also very elegant. And breakfast, although separate, is delicious and on a nice spot outside. Also very kindly made us a fire on the last day evening. Maybe just to note that the photos with the chairs by the water are a little misleading to manage expectations
- Singh (10/5): Gorgeous - Beautifully Located
Great Rooms
Great Staff
Super Comfortable
- Tim (10/5): Best place to stay in Orchha. The owner was very helpful & we are grateful for all his assistance - Lovely rural & quiet location Everything was great
- Vainav (9/5): A wonderful retreat to complement your stay in historical Orchha - A traditionally appointed, sustainably built kothi located at a placid bend of the Betwa river where you can literally hear and feel nature around you. The rooms are beautifully designed with a heartwarming degree of personalisation and attention to traditional detail, but equally comfortable and modern in amenities such as wifi, and hot water. And to top it all, the staff are are super attentive, the food fabulous and the surroundings, especially the historical town of Orchha are simply unforgettable. The infrequent disturbance of the tranquility by smells and loud music being played in neighbouring properties due to ongoing weddings.
- Tim (10/5): Lovely location . Food is delicious . Be clear about what you want . - It is situated in a beautiful tranquil place . It’s wonderful to be away from the bustle . The staff were kind and helpful . We met the owner who lives in Delhi and he was very helpful to us .
- Vikram (8/5): Very good - Ambience,location... It was all ok
- Roy (6/5): the stay was nice but very expensive in comparison to the facilities we usually get. - breakfast was basic but was served outside which was pleasant. Staff and Manager very helpful. Food was very ordinary, no intercom in the room makes it very inconvenient to call for staff or any help. The room seemed overpriced as one of the two rooms we had booked had no window or view at all.
- Apagorn (9/5): Superb - The room with view. The breakfast is tasty. Do not have hair-dryer
- Sanjay (7/5): Should have been better - 2 rooms were nice. Location is decent.
Staff is eager to please 3rd room (twin)was not acceptable for the price. Very small and no space/view.
Food cost @500 for breakfast and @1000 for dinner is high for what's delivered.
- Marisa (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice property. Location of the property is amazing!
All staff was very kind, friendly and helpful.
The food was very good. Absolutely delicious!
The view from our room was amazing.
We really enjoyed our stay at Chandera Khoti! Nothing. Everything was perfect
- Bechara (10/5): Highly recommended homestay in Orchha, the kind of place you wish existed more of nowadays - The location of this homestay (note: it is not a fancy hotel, but a very decent homestay) is fabulous. 5 minutes by car to main tourist places. If available try to get the room that faces the river. Though you can mostly "hear and feel" the river and not see it since some 200 meters away. In the morning, just take a chair and sit on the river bank. You'd be excused to wanting to miss the sightseeing. The team on the ground (led by Manager Jagdish) are very helpful. I had dinner, breakfast, and lunch there; honest, fresh home-made cooking. Last but not least, I was on WhatsApp since before I arrive with the owner himself, who gave a lot of valuable recommendations for Orchha and beyond.
- Mishra (10/5): Nice - Very good.nice Need a big signboard at entry gate on roadside.
- Jason (9/5): Lovely find - Very nice rooms which were tastefully done and my room has a super view of the river. The quality of the food was impressive, subtle flavours and were flexible. Nothing in particular but a nice hangout spot and a pool would make this property awesome.
- Roopa (9/5): Great location/food/lovely rooms on top/ a bit expensive but worth it. - Secluded/lovely residence & great location near the river and just outside the city. But not too far. Nothing. But it’s not a 5 star/ it’s a lovely homestay with great service and food
- Nick (7/5): Overpriced but a nice setting - The room was extremely spacious and had a picture window looking out over the fields down to the river. Tea/coffee and biscuits were provided in the room. You could wander down to the river, accompanied by the very lively dogs. The rural setting was delightful. Our driver reported that he was very well looked after by the staff overnight, for which we were grateful. The food was quite good. Basically, the staff are untrained and most speak little or no English. When we arrived for the evening meal, we were effectively ignored by the staff and it was other guests who explained the arrangements to us. It took three attempts to get the electricity turned on in our room and the same number to get the wifi password for our room. There was a wedding venue next door and loud music carried on till 2.30 am. The prices exceeded the quality of service.
- Padmini (8/5): It was an altogether different experience in a homely atmosphere. - We had breakfast and dinner at the property on 2 days and on both occasions the food was good.
The staff were helpful when approached and sorted out whatever problems did occur.
They even lit bonfires for us for the 2 nights. The staff need to be better trained and the facilities definitely need to be upgraded. the rooms are very small and quite basic in nature.
and the dining room can only accommodate on set of people (as in just 2 or 3 from a group at a time).
- Caterina (10/5): Great hotel in Orchha. - I really enjoyed my stay here. Room was spacious, clean and confortable. We had a delicious dinner and breakfast and everyone was very helpfull. The location by the river is superb and very peacefull. Definitely recommended!
- Murgai (7/5): Charming, rustic property by the river - The food was tasty, homemade-style food.
The location is lovely, and right by the river.
The staff was warm, efficient, and accommodating.
The room was spacious and airy. The location is next to a big resort and there was blaring music coming from there till the wee hours of the morning, making it hard to sleep. Also, my room shared a wall and a door with the common dining area and there was constant noise at night as the staff cleared up and early morning, as they set up for early check-outs. This made sleeping next to impossible on all nights.
Also, even though there was an electric kettle in the rooms, the cord did not reach the socket, so it could not be used.
- Helen (10/5): I wish we had been able to stay longer! - This was a totally unexpected surprise, a fantastic clean spacious room with huge picture window overlooking the field down to the river. Spectacular!
And the food was a delicious, home cooked feast served in a pavilion down by the river. The staff and owner could not have done any more to be kind and helpful. A brilliant spot for visiting Orchha! Nothing
- Louise (10/5): Thoughfulness, beauty, calm - It is a perfect location and extremely confortable, all the little attentions are there. Very professionnal and authentic. Everything is done with a lot of taste. Breakfast and dinner were delightful, the hosts are extremely friendly and thoughful. Very well located, you have the advantages of the proximity of the village and the calmness of the nature.
- Rachel (9/5): By the river in Orchha - This home stay was in a beautiful location by the river just outside Orchha. The room was very comfortable with a view of the river. The food was delicious especially the local lunch we enjoyed before we left. Everything was efficiently arranged for us including a rickshaw and guide to see the monuments. The staff were extremely warm and welcoming. A wonderful stay! Nothing
- Johanna (10/5): Wonderful opportunity to enjoy nature and get a local experience! - The Chandera Kothi is being lead by exceptionally friendly staff and is surrounded by beautiful nature. We were able to enjoy evening talks with the owner Madhur who also provided us with helpful information regarding our upcoming travels. Further, the rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious. You are also able to enjoy freshly cooked local dinner for 1,000 Rs/p.P. and breakfast for 500 Rs/p.P.. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Chandera Kothi and can safely recommend it to any travellers who want to enjoy the calm surroundings of Orchha!
- Dasgupta (10/5): Exceptional - Fabulous Fabulous Stay! Madhur and his family were extremely gracious hosts and we had a great time in Orccha. The property itself is located right on the banks of the Betwa river with magnificent river views from the first floor rooms. The food is to die for and the staff are exteremely polite and caring. If you are coming down to Jhansi or Orccha, do not hesitate to stay here as you will have a gala time guaranteed. Also more people should visit Orccha, its a beautiful little town with ancient forts and temples and sweeping views all around Nothing
- Beatrice (10/5): Corner of paradise in India! - A real “Locus Amoenus” - Oasis of peace for body and mind in our journey around India.
We had a truly authentic experience with a fantastic local family, everything was absolutely amazing from the delicious dinner they freshly cooked for us according to their age-old family recipes to the recently renovated and modern yet traditional rooms. I definitely recommend the room with river view, we woke up blessed by the sunrise’s light.
We spent the evening with Madhur and Sanghita, the owners, who made us feel at home and charmed us with stories about Indian history, traditions, modern culture and much more… the conversation was unique and worth much more than majority of guides we had visiting India.
Another mindful experience was the morning walk from the house to the river (10min) before breakfast, entranced by the crystal clear water (after we saw Ganges!), the melodic sounds of birds chirping, the warm sunlights and the peaceful atmosphere.
All images and memories that will take heart especially returning to our chaotic city life in Europe. I will definitely come back!
