Guest Reviews
- Lauren (7/5): -
- peter (9/5): Good value, good location, helpful staff - Good value, good location, helpful staff
- Estela (10/5): - Great location, not noisy despite being on the high street. Bed was huge and super comfortable, shower was great, room was beautiful and very clean on arrival.
- Bilna (9/5): -
- Stanley (1/5): - Booked and paid and turned up with the wrong room The fact we had wrong room for our anniversary
- daniel (10/5): - Na Na
- Anne (8/5): Would recommend! Spent my birthday here and the apartment and Merthyr Tydfil were excellent! - Totally new finishes; elegantly furnished; very clean; close to town. Nothing
- Sandra (10/5): - A really great place — clear instructions for the entrance and parking, everything easy to follow. The location is excellent, right in the centre, with a huge Tesco store next door. The room was comfortable and clean.
- jade (6/5): - The room was nice.
Location isn't overly pleasant We asked for a twin and didn't get this. Even though it was confined.
- justin (10/5): Convenient, good price , well located - Convenient for Brecon, no staff but messaged easy details , room ready and clean , great shower good bed, great cafe downstairs in the haystack Stairs are pretty steep but that’s it
- Karen (10/5): Excellent - Location None
- Carly (10/5): - Great location. Clean and comfortable stay.
- nathan (8/5): Worked really well for a stop over between two days at bike park wales - Immaculate entrance and room. No reception or bar
- Mark (10/5): Hidden gem in Merthyr Tydfil as a boutique hotel - Perfect location for a weekend in Merthyr Tydfil. Very easy to access the hotel despite no reception area.
Plenty of space, great shower and close to all the local pubs and restaurants. Pillows were too hard
- Aubreywilliams (9/5): Lovely place, would recommend - The rooms were modern, clean and comfortable. The WIFI too slow to work. Could not access anything.
Once in the shower, very difficult to get out, I had to release my wife from it 😊
- Marie (10/5): -
- Lukas (9/5): -
- Julia (10/5): - Amazing huge bath in room 5, stunning interior decor, great location. Key codes very easy to use
- Adams (9/5): - Really lovely room, beautifully decorated and beds were very comfortable. Lovely ensuite with toiletries. Ample tea and coffee. Perfect for our stay. If i had to nit pick, a hook near the bath/Shower for your towel would have been useful as Towel rail wasn't within reach. But that really is the only negative
- Stephen (9/5): Excellent overnight stay and happy to return . - Appears freshly refurbished.
Lovely rooms and so clean .
Ideal location for what was planned that evening.
Little hiccup on arrival but staff sorted within 10 minutes and very helpful. Stairs are a little steep if carrying a large case. But very minor niggle
- Cristina (8/5): - Really central, just walking distance from train station and car park. Room was big and clean and very modern It's all self service so no one to greet you or explain where to find for instance extra tea or coffee. Room was freezing and heater not working properly. Kettle wasn't working properly and again, no one to tell. Sink in bathroom was tiny so every time it was used, water splashed everywhere
- Stephen (8/5): We enjoyed our stay - Excellent location,
- Jan (1/5): We loathed the so called hotel. Location shocking, and it was not a hotel but a series of rooms in a building. - Nothing. Location was dreadful, not a hotel - just a building with rooms and expensive for what was offered. Just awful. Location was dreadful, not a hotel - just a building with rooms and expensive for what was offered.
- Tony & Katie (1/5): Aweful - Nothing it was awful location rough The street was awful a massive dive the walls were so thin you could hear people talking coughing and walking around I would NEVER EVER GAKE MH WIFE THERE AGAIN
IN FACT WE ENDED UK LEAVKNC AFYER 20 MINUTES AND BOOKED A PREMIERE INN INSTEAD SO IT WOULD BE GOOD IF YOU OFFERED A REFJND
- Jenny (9/5): I loved this place. Will definitely come back if I’m ever in the area -
- Linda (10/5): -
- Mike (9/5): -
- Josh (10/5): - The room was amazing and extremely clean. Perfect sized room with plenty of space, bowls and cat bed provided was a really nice touch Nothing
- Shabana (10/5): -
- Roger (7/5): OK - No breakfast available Being disabled going up stairs even though we were moved to first floor that we requested originally
- Anna (8/5): -
- Anna (8/5): -
- Cara (9/5): Lovely! - Clean, quiet and great location. Everything was great. A small fridge in the room would be a bonus though.
- Guest (10/5): - Everything was great. Great room decor, big comfy beds, choice of pillows and central location on the high street.
Smooth self check in process.
- John (10/5): - Clean and modern
- Gareth (8/5): - The hotel is brand new with good fixtures and fittings. Being in the town centre and right next to Merthyr train station is a positive for easy access to Cardiff Central.
Haystack Cafe and Coco's cafe nearby for good coffee and breakfast. Lack of breakfast deal with the accomodation. It would be good if you could link in with Haystacks to offer a breakfast with the accomodation. I cannot drive so without a car, there are little options for an earlier breakfast
- Martin (10/5): -
- Heidi (10/5): - beautiful room, lovely and clean would 100% recommend and would love to return nothing
- Christopher (6/5): Very frustrating and not easy to find hotel entrance and access/u door systems. Would not recommend. - Comfortable bed. Good shower. Nice decor Did not receive instructions. There is no reception person all done by phone and SMS. Strange entrance and room access systems. The room access key safe did not work took 30 minutes to sort out. The entrance to the hotel was just a single door with no clear signage
- Keeley (10/5): -
- Iwona (10/5): - Perfect location in the city centre, close to the bus station and railway station. Nice design of rooms.
The big radiator in the bathroom and adjustable temperature of the radiator in the bedroom.
- Jordan (8/5): -
- Sandra (10/5): -
- Emma (8/5): - Stylish, well maintained rooms. Perfect for a night or two
- david (10/5): - The rooms were immaculate and comfy beds all the facilities required Everything was fine
- Joan (8/5): - Only negative was the stairs, which I knew about after I had booked. Very steep and lack of hand rails on some parts
- Paul (8/5): - Room and facilities very good.
Access? Disappointed you may offer a luxury room but access is not what you would expect too many difficult steps . Your advice on dining out very good.
- John (10/5): - Was nice but more like a air b&b
Was like like the wild west outside in the evening
- Gary (10/5): Howfields hotel will definitely be on my favourite place to stay in future - Situated in the town of Mether, access to all facilities in the town, and bus routes to places near by.
The rooms are of a high standard and very comfortable. Nothing not to like
- Hache (5/5): While the room was nice I would not stay here again - Room it's self was very nice No lift and have issue with hips so struggled on the stairs. No parking available, no staff on site if help was needed. Area hotel is based in not great at all.
- Ruth (8/5): - Very spacious and well equipped.
- James (10/5): - Clean and well presented, easy to access and in a central location. Breakfast cafe below was very nice. Had a very comfortable stay.
- Harvey (10/5): - Very clean and cozy. The soaps were amazing and the decor was great! Noise from the street, but thats not the fault of the hotel.
- Alice (10/5): - Great decor and very comfortable bed
- Gregor (4/5): Misleadingly described as a hotel - Clean room and bathroom No reception. No on site staff
- Simone (10/5): - Incredible decor, there isn’t one small detail which Howfield Hotel has missed! Amazed by the thought of the little touches to the decor. Very pretty rooms.
Very clean and easy to get to from the public car park. Great restaurant choices around the hotel too. Highly recommended.
- Kirsty (4/5): - The bathroom was damp, the bedside lamp didn’t work and the room was so hot we had to have the windows open. However, the street was so noisy we’ve had the worst nights sleep in a long time. We put the fan on, but it’s broken meaning there was no way to cool our dog now.
Would not recommend
- Wyke (7/5): -
- Fabian (10/5): -
- Runyu (10/5): - Great stay! The hotel is in great location and has nice interior. Great choice to stay here thanks
- Kerry (10/5): It was just what we needed - It was clean and comfortable
- Helen (8/5): Lovely comfortable room with good facilities. Would definitely stay again - Central location.
Lovely room decorated to a high standard Access to both the hotel and room were by key safe which was difficult to use
- Louise (7/5): - The room was beautiful set up Lots of stairs no lift access
- Anna (10/5): Great location, comfortable room - Walking distance from the car park, clear instructions from staff, comfortable room.
Nice places to eat in a walking distance too. I wasn't expecting the stairs to be quite steep — makes it harder to get a suitcase to the first or second floor, but it is manageable unless you've got health conditions.
- Judith Anne (8/5): Perfect location !!!! Ideal for short stay!!!! Clean, comfortable … key code worked !! - Ok …. On Main Street Very steep stairs
- Andrew (7/5): A nice hotel but a less positive review than my last stay. - Location is great, comfy beds, good sized shower I stayed here 6mths ago and the difference in cleanliness was the first thing I noticed. Loads of wear and tear visible on walls. The floor had not been vacuumed, bits of dirt clearly visible on the floor (and on the hallway and stairs of the hotel), this is basic stuff so no excuses. I just get the feeling that it’s being neglected which is such a shame.
The bathroom was cleaner which is something.
My advice is to get a new cleaner and stay on top of maintenance.
- Sarah (9/5): Great property in the heart of town. - Easy self check in / high standard and took dogs. Nothing.
- Garytaylor1 (10/5): - The room was really nice, it didn't need to much so it was perfect for my stay Kinda hard to find as it's just a door on the side of the cafe but eventually got it :)
- Ruth (8/5): Great location, comfy beds, lovely room - Very close to the station and to Tesco. Comfortable beds, spacious room, nice ambiance, blackout curtains, windows that opened, a fan in the room. It was perfect for staying while we went to Bike park Wales - we just got a taxi each way. We will definitely stay here the next time. There was a bit of noise on the street, but we only heard it when the windows were open. When we closed the windows, it was quiet.
- Hayley (10/5): -
- Amir (10/5): - Great customer service and helpful over the phone.. even the two cleaning ladies were amazing to chat with and very helpful. Will dtay again..
- MARTIN (10/5): Great night stay - Really easy to book and the communication was fantastic. Beautiful room with everything we required and more
- Stefany (10/5): - Modern, super clean, great communication. Lovely coffee shops and takeaways locally
- Wood (8/5): Good accommodation for a one or two night stay , would book for longer. Though would return - Modern and very comfortable , airy. Stairways very will lit Being on the street side of the hotel , noise from passers by was noticeable,
- Lancaster (8/5): - Very modern, clean. We stayed for two nights and it was great value for money compared to bigger hotel chains The shower took about ten years to heat up
- Withers (9/5): -
- Jo (10/5): -
- Sian (10/5): - Comfy beds, able to accommodate early check in, clean rooms and lovely decor in the rooms
- Mark (10/5): - Easy to access, parking can be a problem but you will always get in the Castle car park but involved a longer walk, best to drop your stuff off at the barrier outside the digs & then park up.
Overall great accommodation would definitely stay again
- ian (9/5): A perfect spot to explore the local area for hikes - Clean, quiet, completely stress free. There are no staff at the hotel, you let yourself in from the street….was very easy Nothing
- Kathy (6/5): - having stayed here before and never having the top floor was a different experience...we had room 8...the stairs in my opinion are boarding on dangerous, so steep and narrow treads..not only that the last flight of stairs as no handrail on the left hand side...any where on top floor is harwork for even quite mobile people...the shower as definitely got a drianage issue too...nearly overflowing out of the shower tray...the check out time of 10am as always seemed a narrow time frame..11am would be much more in keeping with modern times...best part of the room was the bed..lining and the crisp cotton sheets were perfect.... stairs to room 8
check out 10 am
shower tray filling to the top when showering
no personal touch or contact
would not stay again on the top floor..nightmare
- Rohail (10/5): - The rooms at the Howfield were exactly as described in the photos. very comfortable bed, good hot shower with good flow and very clean. the housekeeping staff were polite, cheerful and helpful.
communication and check in was completed efficiently via text messages with quick responses ( we asked for an early check in and the room was ready for us )
I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again
- Danny (10/5): - The hotel was perfectly located, clean and spacious.
- Carlo (10/5): relaxing after a tought working day - cozy and super cleaned nothing
- trevor (10/5): HAD A WONDERFUL VISIT - LOCATION PERFECT. ROOM MORE THAN WE EXPECTED. COMFORTABLE COSY.
BATHROOM EXCELLENT. EVERYTHING WE NEEDED WAS SUPPLIED.
EXCELLENT SERVICE VIA PHONE FOR TV.
ONLY PROBLEM STAIRS HAD NO HANDRAIL ON BOTTOM FLIGHT. ONLY PROBLEM WAS OUR AGE AND NOT VERY STEADY ON FEET DUE TO AGE. BUT WE MANAGED OK. JUST HANDRAIL MISSING ON BOTTOM STAIRS
- Verified traveler (10/5): Pleasant Stay - The hotel was better than we were expecting. The boutiques style room was comfortable and served its purpose for a one night stopover. Good price. would recommend.
- Olga (9/5): Stylish hotel - Very nice hotel with stylish rooms, comfortable bed, big TV and located in the city center. The check out is 10am which is a bit early, would be nice to have it at 11am.
- Michael george (10/5): - No parking only down road a bit far if you can’t walk far or disabled
also stairs very steep
and too many lorries turning up at 5am for deliveries and people screaming and shouting late at night from 2 public houses down the road and to top it all from 7am Monday and Tuesday morning young school children waiting for restaurant Haystack to open for school club the hotel itself is excellent condition very high specification finish very clean condition no hot water till 8am
- John (6/5): Some good points some bad - No staff on site
Key safe entry
- Clare (8/5): - Although warned the room was on 2nd floor the stairs are very steep and difficult with luggage. Rooms were beautiful and communication very good.
- Charlotte (8/5): -
- martin (9/5): - The 3 flight of stairs 🫣
- Mandy (8/5): - Beautifully furnished boutique hotel in the city centre. Parking is close by. Only disadvantage is the last of an elevator, as the stairs are very shallow and steep.
- Charlie (10/5): Brilliant - Howfield is a personal favourite of ours, it's such a nice, clean place with great value for money. The restaurant next-door is also a great plus, never had any issues from the current construction happening to the buildings next-door either!
- Tanya (10/5): - Stayed for one night, getting in was super straight foreward, room was beautiful and clean
