Guest Reviews
- Susana (9/5): Very good to have a temple experience and feel the peace! - The experience of sleeping in a temple. The food could be better
- SUGARWILD (9/5): -
- Flavio (9/5): - L'atmosfera, unica! camera spaziosa e pulita.
- Sergio (2/5): Muy mala experiencia.
- Sidonie (10/5): -
- Janette (7/5): A one off experience - Morning ceremony No guided tour
Dinner was a Buddhist meal but no explanation of what we were eating. I thought something was dessert and it was savoury.
I was cold at night but had a spare duvet to use lights on in the corridor all night. A night light would be enough.
Breakfast was again typical but a lot of people clearly didn’t enjoy it and left it so it was a waste of food.
- Maria Cristina (4/5): Not a nice place. - The lady that shows us the facilities was very kind. The facilities are in bad condition, one chair was dangerous to be used, the public bath was very restricted, the check out time is very early (from 8 to 9 am) and the food was very disappointing.
- christoph (7/5): -
- Oliwia (8/5): Unusual experience - Great location in Koya-san , right next to the temple with good breakfast and dinner, with the option to participate in the morning ceremony. Great experience. English communication is good. There are 40 rooms, you sleep next to the temple not inside. The walls are very thin ,so you can hear all the noises, people talking ,walking above your head. If you are looking for a quiet , relaxing and comfortable stay that's definitely not a place for you.
- Selma (7/5): Great experience but very pricey - It was great experience with incredible tasty vegan food and comfy futon beds Too expensive
- david (3/5): Not worth the price - Good for the experience of staying in a temple but otherwise not really worth the price tag!
I think it’s probably better to visit Koyasan on a day trip than to spend a huge amount of money to not learn anything from the monks or experience. Pretty much just checked in and were left alone until dinner then breakfast and morning prayer…no explanation or information given at all about the life of these people or even the prayers.
Save your money and just come for a day trip from Osaka
- Chunhui (7/5): -
- Anke (9/5): - Zimmer, heißes Bad, Dinner, Teilnahme an Buddistischer Zeremonie Recht kalt (trotz warmer Heizung
- Damian (7/5): -
- Gogarty (10/5): -
- Bernice (10/5): Special experience - So special to be able to spend the night at a World Heritage site and listen to morning prayers. Check out time may seem a bit early, but it's great for catching the bus to the cable car. Excellent timing. Hallways are cold, but Japanese don't typically centrally heat. The bedrooms are toasty with a heater and if that's not enough try the kotatsu (Japanese table with heating element under it and a thick blanket on top.) Very cozy. Authentic feel.

- Edu Fisce (10/5): Relax y una experiencia única - Su calidez, ambiente, ubicación, experiencia vivida. Todo excelente
- Sharon (9/5): Most peacefull night of sleep in a impressive place! - I loved my stay here! It was a little confusing on how to check in, you will just have to ask the staff working there. But this lady who spoke very good English helped me and explained the whole stay, showing me where to find the facilities and how to attend the morning prayer. She was really lovely! The morning prayer itself was really impressive and they provide non-Japanese with English booklet which was super helpfull. Overal I loveed staying here and I had the best night of sleep of my entire trip! I also loved the onsen the place has, it is public but if you go a little you could have it for yourself like I did! It was quite cold inside, the provide a heater and the heated table so this helped a lot. And this is not neccisarily a bad thing because it gave me a good laugh, but they put me in the room next to the only other non Japanese speaking visitors and gave us a private room to eat the breakfast in. I actually thought it was thoughtfull and funny!
Onsen bueno y poco concurrido. Lugar para meditar. Previo algo caro .
- Jaclyn (10/5): Comfortable and unique experience 😊 - Food was delicious. Clean room with my own bathroom. Lovely staff 😊
- Anna (3/5): -
- IGNACIO (9/5): -
- Julien (10/5): - Great place, great everything! Highlight of my travel! I was still super fresh to japan so for the morning prayer I arrived at only 3 minutes before the time indicated, but I guess in japan the time is always 5 minutes before... So we almost missed it if it wasn't for the fact the Chinese lady who was also waiting got told to just walk in! So I guess just having more clarity on the prayer timing but otherwise one of the best experiences I ever add traveling! Thank you so much!
- Cédric (10/5): - The host was a bit quirky and very kind. The location is amazing. The sento in the residence was fantastic to relax in after a day in the winter cold. The dinner and breakfast were delicious (goma-tofu!). Joining in the morning meditation also felt like a privilege. Nothing!
- Kiam Peng (7/5): Got a smaller and different room that what I booked. Not much interaction with the staff due to language barriers. - A chance to experience staying at temple lodging and take part in the morning prayers ritual. I booked a family style room but was given a much smaller room at a corner , without chairs at the balcony overlooking the garden. Felt disappointed.
- Alvaro (10/5): Unforgettable experience - I loved the location in the middle of the forest but really close to town. The silent in the area. The temple and pagoda were stunning and world heritage sites. The onsen-like batch was another highlight. The spacious room with private bathroom and heating in winter. The brekkie was okay and the morning prayers ceremony along the monks was just a unique unforgettable experience. Everything was perfect but maybe it was freezing in the temple although you have a heating in the room and plenty of blankets in a wardrobe at your disposal so it's okay to sleep warm.
The futon beds and pillow provided are also another handicap since they are not that comfy if you are not used to sleeping on the floor. Bear that in mind.

- Bygate (9/5): Stunning location, beautiful people, this has to be a wonder of the world - Location was stunning iv never experienced anything like it, the people are lovely and are always really helpful. I had to get use to using Pillows that are more like a bean bag/ wheat bag, as I am use to duck down or memory foam pillows but I’m here to experience cultural differences so I wouldn’t even say that I didn’t like it.
- Despain (10/5): -
- Daisuke (9/5): -
- C- (10/5): Simulate life as a Buddhist monk while sleeping next to a World Heritage Site. - You get to stay the night in a traditional Buddhist room right next to the World Heritage Site Kongo Sanmaiin. I highly recommend the vegetarian meal that I got to eat for breakfast everyday, simulating life of a Buddhist monk. The staff are very accommodating if you speak either English or Japanese and will assist you on how to worship when you attend the religious service. This was one of if not the best hotel experience I’ve had in Japan so far, and sleeping right next to a World Heritage Site is a huge accomplishment I never thought I’d achieve. The only critique I could possibly have is there were a few scratch marks on the wooden ledge next to my bed, but everything else was very well kept by the staff.
- Lorenzo (9/5): - Posizione comodissima, personale molto gentile e struttura molto ben organizzata e pulita!
Prezzo totalmente sproporzionato all'offerta.
- Sofie (8/5): -
- Olson (10/5): Absolutely wonderful experience. - It was wonderful. The monks were kind, patient and helpful, especially since we don’t speak Japanese. The room was large, with a private toilet and a wonderful sunroom that opened on to a lovely garden. The pillows were very hard, but it wasn’t that big a deal.
- Carsten Linnet (7/5): - En fantastisk beliggenhed i et meget stille område. Værelset lugtede jordslået og fugtigt.
Det var svært at sove i.
- Ida (10/5): Einmaliges Erlebnis - Wunderschöner Tempel in ruhiger Lage bisschen abseits der Hauptstraße. Nettes Personal. Sehr gutes Essen.
- Mariana (10/5): -
- Angie (9/5): - It was a nice stay in general; however, we would have liked to experience more of the temple. As we paid a high amount to stay there. The part of the morning ceremony we were allowed to experience was very short. The staff did not speak English and the directions to participate in the ceremony were quite confusing for all the participants. We almost missed it because no one came for us as we were told to wait. We were expecting to do a meditation as well, but this was never mentioned or included in the program. We did not stay in the temple as per say, the lodge is across from the temple.
- Claire (6/5): -

- Valerie (9/5): A real experience to stay here for a night. - No problems with the Japanese style room with private toilet. Slept well on the futons. The communal showers also have onsens. The vegan dinner was not cheap, but a real experience and tasty. The morning prayers were interesting to attend.
- natalija (10/5): This is an accommodation at religious site - Dinner na
- Dilip (9/5): -
- Robert (1/5): Not worth the money. Would for sure not recommend. - The breakfast was not eatable. Also it was extremely cold in the breakfast area, the room and in the morning during the morning ceremony. Be aware that you are not sleeping in the actual temple, but a facility outside of the temple that is way less beautiful. It felt like a scam as the pictures do make it seem like you are sleeping in the actual temple. Be prepared for some big dissapointments.
- David (10/5): - Authentic Japanese stay with nice rooms with a view of the garden. The morning ceremony was spiritual, and the breakfast was delicious.
Definitely recommend staying here if you are after an authentic Temple stay.
- Mauricio (10/5): Absolutely incredible! - Everything was magical, the room was very beautiful and cozy. The place is absolutely outstanding, the breakfast was amazing and all the spiritual ambience was incredible. The fact that we could join the prayer ceremony was very special.
