Guest Reviews
- Barry (10/5): Fabulous escape - Well presented house and gardens - peaceful and beautiful place to relax and unwind. Host very friendly and accommodating, respectful of privacy. Location ideal for our needs.
- Rebecca (10/5): I highly recommend Rustic Retreat to any traveler in the area :))) - I stayed at the lovely Rustic Retreat with my two 15 - year - olds and our tour guide. The house has three spacious bedrooms, enough for six people, and features a continuous hot water supply, a well - equipped kitchen, and laundry and drying machines. It made our four - night stay feel truly homely.
Our host, Sharon, a friendly New Zealander, recommended four local restaurants. We couldn’t get a table at Our Place due to the crowd, but the other three — The Nicks Pizzeria, The Carrington Hotel, and The Big Pub — were all delicious.
When my boys accidentally dirtied Sharon’s beautiful dining table, she didn’t blame us. Instead, she comforted us. In short, Rustic Retreat was the perfect choice for our rainforest adventure, and I highly recommend it to any traveler in the area.

- Michele (9/5): Our family had a lovely Christmas holiday at the Rustic Retreat. Sharon is a wonderful host! - Lovely house and great outdoor area with everything we needed supplied. Family of five, so the washing machine and dryer were great to have :) Would definately recommend.
- Claire (10/5): -
- Colleen (10/5): As advertised - a relaxing rural stay - The place was as advertised - a rustic retreat. Close to Malanda, but in a rural location. The host was lovely, and the house had everything we needed. The bed was a little hard for me, but our friend loved it as he loves a firmer bed. Everything else was great and this comment is only about personal preference - not anything wrong.
- Melinda (10/5): Comfortable home in a quiet neighborhood. - The location was great and the home was very comfortable. Sharon was very accommodating and helpful.
- Ayla (10/5): Absolutely loved our stay, a beautiful rustic house with everything you need -
- Monique (8/5): -
- Sue (9/5): Gorgeous and comfy country home - Beautiful garden and outdoor area. Very comfortable home and comfy beds. Spotlessly clean. Well equipped kitchen. Great host. A great get away spot. Fyi not great mobile reception in the house
- Mullins (9/5): A comfortable home in a beautiful location. - The property had everything needed for a relaxing and comfortable stay. We enjoyed looking at the farm animals on neighbouring properties. A good location to explore the Atherton Tablelands from.
- Lisa (9/5): Rustic with personality - comfortable family stay. - Fully equipped kitchen, extensive DVD library, plenty of hot water, washing machine & dryer - plenty of room for a family of 5 to settle in Fantastic seating options outside (if only the weather had been warmer!) - baby calves, sheep and alpacas, and birdlife to enjoy. Quiet location, a short drive to areas of interest including waterfalls. Only 5 minutes to Malanda for supplies & fuel. Loved the environmentally /septic friendly products for use throughout the home. We like a slightly firmer mattress - but that's a personal preference. Would suggest place mats to protect the beautiful dining table.
- Sharon (10/5): Perfect family get away! - A lovely stay! Rustic Retreat was so peaceful. The accommodation was very clean and had all amenities for a family. The neighbouring animals and resident calves were the highlight for our teen-aged girls. The host was friendly and accommodating.

- Lucrezia (10/5): It was a dynamic experience. - It was very tranquil. Lovely place to just get away and relax. Nice clean house. All the facilities you could ask for. Bonus was the dryer. nothing
- Marilyn (9/5): A relaxing 2 night stay in a rustic setting complete with a fire pit! - This property was well named and totally lived up to that. We wanted some quiet family time. The house isn't flash but is comfortable. We loved sitting around the fire pit on the very chilly nights. The kids loved seeing a variety of animals close by ... sheep, alpaca, pigs, cows, horses. We were initially disturbed by a lack of curtaining across the large bathroom window but managed to use a spare shower curtain across the window.
- Janita (10/5): Great family friendly space. - Quiet with lots of space and very family friendly. N/A

- Kalolaine (10/5): Clean, family house to spend quality time with family and comes with a remarkable host. - Clean home with a welcoming and remarkable host, Sharon. She is an amazing host who truly cares about her guests and their needs. Also loved the small details of decor throughout the home. Family oriented home with a great outdoor view. Overall a relaxing environment to unwind with family and spend quality time. Nothing, I could not fault this lovely property.
- Dawn (9/5): We enjoyed our stay at rustic retreat and we will definelty stay there again when we visit family. - Our 2 year old absolutely loved how close we were to the goats, cows and alpacas! Beautiful home, heaps of room. Shower water pressure was very low. But there is a beautiful big bath to relax in.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fiorella (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steve (10/5): Central to a multitude of attractions in a location hidden and quiet but close to town. - Location was nice quiet countryside only a 5min drive to town with everything needed.
- Lawrie (7/5): Good -
- Samantha (10/5): Exceptional - The at home relaxed feeling the place had.
Had all you needed to be home away from home.
Lovely place in the hills yet only 6 kms from shops if needed. I think the place could benefit from some ceiling fans to rotate air and / or air conditioning as i feel would get little hot and stuffy if there was no breeze if I was to stay there in warmer months. On saying this the place had plenty of windows for the hill breezes come through.
But apart from this the place was just perfect.
Will definitely be booking another stay there for sure .
The hostess Sharon is just lovely and couldn't be more accommodating.
- Amber (10/5): I just have one word exceptional - the fact it was away from city and was all nature couldn’t fault it
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Ando (10/5): Very pleasant stay - Great location, beautifully done house, Sharon was very friendly and helpful, kids enjoyed the sheep and cows, looking forward to the next time
- Jay (9/5): Superb -
- Vicki (10/5): It was probably the best Christmas we had in ages the house and location was perfect! - The location and house was beautiful. Sharon was very kind, helpful and her hospitality was amazing. We hope that we’re allowed back again soon. There was nothing we didn’t like. We loved the place.
- Michael (9/5): Sharon is a very good host. House was immaculate. - Very Clean, very well appointed large house. Owner on site, very helpful and very friendly. Nothing to dislike.
- Shirley (10/5): We loved our stay. - Location was great, very close to Malanda. Very quiet and relaxing.
Our host Sharon was lovely, helpful and welcoming.
THERE is Wifi
- Shila (9/5): Superb - The house had such a peaceful, relaxing feel to it. The house inside & out was beautiful. We loved it, highly recommend booking this amazing Rustic Retreat. I know I'll definitely book again. The only thing that I'd say that let us down would've been that the property had no fans. I understand why the property wouldn't have them, but the pedestal fan we bought did the trick, apart from that we definitely enjoyed our stay.
