Guest Reviews
- Kittridge (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Ann (10/5): A memorable stay and a wonderful way to celebrate my birthday. - The cottage is wonderful and full of character. Peter, the owner, has provided everything you could possibly need to make your stay memorable and the continental breakfast was exceptional. The location was central to so many places we wanted to see and we will have to return to see them all. Peter gave us plenty of information regarding what we might like to visit which was very helpful. We would heartily recommend Coxleigh House to anyone thinking of visiting the area. Nothing
- Jeremy (7/5): Nice, quiet option on the edge of the Peak District - A very quiet location. A nice property with lots of character. Bedroom warm. Bed comfortable. Plenty of electrical sockets. Plenty of hot water. Fast Wi-Fi. Basic items for an adequate breakfast left in kitchen. You may not meet the host; entry instructions will be sent to you - it worked fine for me. Plenty of restaurant options in Matlock, less than ten minutes away. It wasn't a problem for me, but the bathroom, the kitchen and the bedroom are all on different levels - the steps might not suit everyone.
- David (6/5): Pleasant - Lovely cottage Peter never came and seen us plus did not no how work cooker so we never had breakfast so we eat out
- Guy (8/5): Comfortable - Not a fan of DIY Continental breakfast but was adequate. Took a little time to work out the oven for the bread roll which needed cooking before consumption.
- Woszatka (10/5): Just gorgeous, and very good value for money - Peter left us the perfect supplies for a lovely breakfast each morning. The cottage is more adorable and cosy than the pictures. The kitchen is wonderful if you're hoping to cook your own meals. It was our first time using an Aga, but Peter showed us the ropes and it was super easy. It's just a gorgeous little cottage in a wonderfully quiet area, with a pub less than 5 minutes walk away. We liked everything. We brought our own coffee grounds, which I'd recommend to anyone who wants to make the most of the french press.
- Ifor (9/5): Superb - Excellent facilities, There was a great selection of food for breakfast. Peter was very helpful and had useful advice about local restaurants and attractions. All great.
- John (7/5): Good -
- Annette (8/5): Very good -
- Kenneth (9/5): Superb - We had everything we needed
- Lindsey (8/5): Very good - Very clean and comfortable Steep stairs to bedroom and further stairs to kitchen
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Shyvonn (10/5): Exceptional - It was a stunning cottage .the host Peter was very kind and helpful. It was very clean and tidy .it was perfect
- Anthony (10/5): Brilliant - Brilliant host. Peter gave us a call when we arrived to check everything was OK. We felt private in the cottage which is important to us but we knew Peter was there if needed. The cottage is lovely. The breakfast is great and it was good to have milk avaliable for a cup of tea as soon as we arrived. Everything needed for the stay was avaliable. The bed is so comfy and nice to have tv in bedroom. Cosy blanket was a lovely touch. All very homely. Nothing
- Chloe (7/5): Lovely house but left feeling disappointed. - Liked the rooms and location , pub across from the house was nice. Owner who lives next door left food cooking in the oven and asked if he could come and get it out later in the day and was using the facilities in the kitchen during our stay. Didn’t feel private and felt uncomfortable someone coming into the house with all of our belongings inside. When we rented this house we wasn’t expecting the owner using any of the facilities just like you wouldn’t in a hotel!
Not very happy that we payed £75 and felt like we was on edge that the owner could walk in any minute.
- Ryan (5/5): Passable - Second time I have stayed at this place and it’s always been a wonderful experience. Didn’t have heating or running hot water was unable to have a shower no matter what I did the shower was still freezing, but I suppose cold water theory isn’t overall bad 😂
- Francesca (5/5): First impressions ok but disappointed. - Clear message re location. Helpful friendly host No comfortable seating. Cold on arrival. House on three levels.
Shower room /WC not on same floor as bedroom.. Shower does not get hot, only warm. Water sprays over floor and entrance to bathroom where step is making it wet
Step into bathroom not marked and dangerous.
Steps down to Kitchen uneven.
Too much clutter and huge wardrobes taking space in bedroom.
inadequate breakfast choices. Old chrystalised spreads for three half slices of bread..
- Lynne (9/5): Lovely location - The location.
Quirky cottage and
the house was spotlessly clean A place to relax , no lounge area .
- Charles (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gill (10/5): Loved everything. Such a gorgeous place - Nothing to dislike . Breakfast was great , host was very accommodating of my food allergy and even left a gf treat for when I arrived. Very much appreciated.
Loved the fairy lights in the room and the wood burner. We will be returning.
- James (10/5): Exceptional - Peter was a great host friendly and helpful, the cottage was lovely, well equipped, with a breakfast included.
- Kathleen (9/5): We really enjoyed our stay. - Received warm welcome form our host who greeted us and showed us around the property. The cottage was lovely, homely and clean. The kitchen was fully equipped and there was a wide variety of breakfast options provided. The local pub across the road also provided evening meals. We chose the location as it is only 20min from Chatsworth house and ideal for exploring the Peak District. We enjoyed our visit and would look to revisit again . N/A
- Elizabeth (9/5): A gem of a find & thoroughly enjoyed our stay. - Very nicely presented with an awesome selection for breakfast. Nice and clean in a good location. Would definitely recommend it. No negative comments.
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Emma (9/5): Cosy, well equipped cottage - Location Nowhere to relax - either sat on wooden chair or tge bed - no big deal
- Lorraine (7/5): Met our needs sufficiently for a two night stay - Location is great for Matlock & Chatsworth House
Nice pub, with food options across the road
Supply of breakfast options by owner
Clean, fresh, comfortable bedding
Off road parking Although heating is apparent, kitchen area gets cold
Noise from main road/ Dicing with traffic to cross road to pub opposite
Water in shower was not hot enough
- Dana (10/5): Exceptional - Such a gorgeous cottage, with convenience nearby footpaths. Romantic, the perfect size.
- Kyle (10/5): Quirky cottage stay - It’s quirky, bathroom was nice, great. Add a touch with the continental breakfast and great host and brilliant communication Mattress not to our taste
- Helen (10/5): Little gem of a stay - Warm and comfortable, breakfast all set out and a lovely treat.
- Judith (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ian (8/5): Could have been better but still a very enjoyable stay. - The cottage was cosy with a spacious kitchen with all cooking utensils provided and heated with a gas fired Arga range, which also kept the whole cottage warm. Full guidance on the use of the facilities was provided. Sadly the central heating boiler failed during our first night so we had no hot water for washing or showering. Our host was diligent in calling out a plumber to fix it but it needed a replacement part that could not be obtained during our two night stay. Nevertheless we managed!
- Karen (10/5): Would definitely recommend this gem - One of the best places we have stayed at. The bed was really comfortable, the wardrobe was fabulous and the kitchen was well equipped and lovely and warm thanks to the beautiful range cooker. We can’t wait to stay again. Nothing not to like
- Cashmore (10/5): Exceptional - This truly is a hidden gem. From booking to arriving, the host goes above and beyond to ensure all your needs are met. From ensuring breakfast is left out, to freshly poured milk in the fridge. Exceptional. Thankyou so much.
- Layla (10/5): Lovely little space, very comfy bed. - The host provided us with breakfast items on the morning which was very thoughtful and we really enjoyed sitting down to eat breakfast before leaving.
The inside of the house looked beautiful, and we liked the beams. Very pretty. I've got no complaints.
- Sharon (9/5): Superb -
- Monika (10/5): One night at that place is not enough! - The whole atmosphere and how the cottage looked, very much within the style of the countryside. Warm, welcoming, well equipped (particularly the kitchen - the juicer was something else!). The kitchen was the heart and soul of the place, with the range giving off enough heat to warm up the whole cottage with zero effort from the guests. The bedroom was furnished to perfection with Narnia-style wardrobe and a comfy bed. We wish we stayed there longer! The staircase, even though causing some issues for me as I have some mobility problems, looked amazing - way up to the bedroom, down to the kitchen.
Breakfast was a very nice touch. Having to leave at the end of our stay!
- Juliet (9/5): Superb -
- Frank (9/5): Superb -
- Madelaine (10/5): Lovely stay at Coxleigh House - Everything about this little bijou cottage was perfect. We felt at home the moment we arrived. There wasn't anything we didn't like about the cottage it suited our needs perfectly.
- Nicola (9/5): Lovely host, property & location - Friendly & helpful host, lovely property, nice continental breakfast provided
- Carol (7/5): Fine - Good breakfast, spacious accommodation Road noise
- Alan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sally (8/5): Cosy well equipped self catering accommodation for 2. - Friendly owner. Good location with pub over the road selling good food.
Well stocked kitchen and lovely breakfast provided.Modern bathroom. No lounge sitting area
- Maczed (9/5): Superb - Lovely cosy self contained cottage wing with private parking. Welcoming host in Peter and a good food and cask ale pub just across the road! Nothing
- Wendy (9/5): A lovely host who communicates well and gave us loads of tips. - Lovely traditional features. Small and comfortable. Peter’s communication was really helpful.
The accommodation was great. A great pub and farm shop within walking distance. Bus service close by It was a bit cold. Couldn’t work out if there was heating. But it was a cold damp July.
- Meryl (8/5): We had a lovely stay for the night. The rooms were large and clean and everything was laid out for breakfast. The juicer - Beautiful little cottage in a lovely location.
- Chris (7/5): Good -
- Stella (10/5): Beautiful place, gorgeous bedroom, excellent location - Lovely place with a gorgeous bedroom and big kitchen. In an excellent location with easy access to Matlock and the Peak District. Peter left prosciuttio ham, cheese, milk, bread, cereals and eggs for us to use - and oranges to squeeze fresh juice with a machine there. Bed comfortable, on the firm side (in a good way). I particularly loved the wardrobe which probably provides access to Narnia at the right time with the right people. And especially that there was a Christmas Acrylic Polar Bear stored on top in a box. Seemed appropriate. Peter was very helpful - all very easy. We went for a nice walk to the Nine Ladies / Stanton Moor, and then to Lumsdale Waterfalls. Lovely. Not a big fan of wet rooms, as the floor gets very wet. Could do with a wet room floor scraper / squeegee.
- Anthony (9/5): Lovely quaint cottage - Very quaint little cottage. No comfortable chairs
- Cavaleri (10/5): Exceptional - Peter was amazing. He gave us a lot of history about his beautiful cottage and loved staying there. Little extra touches were lovely and will definitely stsy again if in the area.
- Matthew (10/5): As long as you have a car this place is perfect to explore the surrounding area. - Lovely setting, quaint, all the facilities you could want for. We were very happy staying there. Nothing
- Robin (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (8/5): Overall excellent value, as described and welcoming feel. - Everything was as expected - made to feel very welcome (great shower). Nothing really, it's a minor point, but a couple of more comfortable chairs would have been welcome.
- Joanne (10/5): Very enjoyable and comfy stay, excellent friendly host, will definitely stay here again. - Felt like home No sign outside, (that I could see !!)
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Christina (10/5): Very enjoyable stay in every way. - Very comfortable, in an excellent location and the host was extremely welcoming.
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent property and host.
- Julian (10/5): Exceptional - Easy to find . Ideal location
- Dawn (10/5): Just what we needed - Comfortable clean and well looked after
Very hospitable host. Nothing too much trouble Nothing
- Leah (10/5): Great stay - Lovely breakfast options, great location, everything you could need!
- Layla (8/5): Very good - Peter was a wonderful host and the cottage is lovely - the perfect base whilst I was working in the area. The bed is comfortable, the kitchen well equipped with everything I needed. Thanks for a lovely stay
- Julie (10/5): Beautiful traditional cottage, set in a great location. - Beautiful, traditional and cosy cottage which is very well equipped. There is a nice garden area to sit and relax.
The host provided us with a quality continental breakfast and a fabulous selection of teas and coffees.
The location is excellent and if you don't fancy driving, there is a bus stop across the road that takes you to Chesterfield, Matlock Bath and other destinations for £2.00.
There is also a pub/restaurant across the road that serves quality food and drink. We missed the serving window, but they still accommodated us and served us a hearty Sunday roast. If I had one criticism, it would be the size of the bed. A small double bed for two stocky individuals is not enough.
- Márta (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gillian (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely little house. Very friendly host. Nothing.
- Leah (10/5): Fantastic homely feel - Host was fantastic. Everything we needed was there including milk and bread. Very comfy bed. Homely feel and would stay again! Ideal for visiting Chatsworth house. Separate home to the host with a key safe. Perfect and pleasant. Even got left a kit kat each! What's not to love. Thankyou Peter.
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - This was a lovely little gem. Very clean and Peter was welcoming , friendly and informative about the area. Breakfast set us up for the day.
- Waite (10/5): Excellent - Excellent
- Holly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lauren (10/5): Peter is a great host, rooms were spotlessly clean. The breakfast by Peter was more than expected! - Peter was lovely and communicated really well with us regarding entering the properly, parking and location etc. Sugar didn’t have lids on, not many oven trays accessible and towels weren’t very soft
- Stephen (10/5): Great Host, Great Location, Cottage is very well equipped and well maintained by Peter - Peter, the host was very welcoming, went way above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable, we totally did expect the amount of food ,Peter provided for breakfast , a great location for exploring the Peak District area of Matlock and Matlock Bath, Nothing to dislike.
