Guest Reviews
- Jayshree (1/5): -
- Maria (5/5): Some improvements needed - The room had a heater that warmed up the room fairly quickly. Hairdryer and Tea&coffee was a nice touch. Mold in the bathroom. Shower was not working (it was either freezing cold or boiling hot water)
the pub was closed due to flooding which was out of the control of the owners but we ended up spending 40mins trying to find an alternative place to eat. The Chiverton arms staff could have contacted and told us beforehand so we could have planned and made alternative arrangements for food as most of the other pubs in the area were fully booked. Considering that we paid nearly £90 to stay here for one night it was not a good value for money and we felt ripped off.
- Paul (8/5): - No breakfast
- Jola (6/5): it was ok u get what u pay for - close to the town need a bit of TLC - everything was moving what i touched
- Pat (8/5): Was all as expected - No breakfast
- Karen (9/5): Good accommodation. Worth the money - Clean and good facilities, refills of tea and coffee, hairdryer, iron and board etc
Good location, more spacious than it seems from the picture. We had Lodge 3.
Very pleasant and professional staff As it was in the grounds of a popular pub it wasn’t always possible to find a parking space on returning after a day out. Perhaps more of a problem for us than others as husband has a disability.
- Lyka (6/5): -
- Stephen (10/5): Will be on our list for another visit when next in Cornwall - Very clean, good facilities, wonderful food at the pub
Very friendly atmosphere from both staff / owners and made to feel welcome from the locals also Everything was perfect,
- Elizabeth (5/5): Basic but clean. - It was clean and tidy.
Convenient commuter location - close to A30. Thin walls, take ear plugs!
Outside looks unfriendly, better inside.
- TINASHE (1/5): I never stayed there l was just there for less than 30 minutes - I didnt even sleep there l just feel trapped cause l wasnt happy and l have to look for another place and at first they said they would offer bed and breakfast then upon arrival they said no and even said they won't refund me ,anyway it was fine l just left the keys and go,but l feel robbed and was frastrated since it was my first time there. so l just paid £84 for viewing the room of which l feel logically wasn't fair. Nothing at all

- Janice (7/5): -
- Sinead (5/5): Way over priced room for the quality of product - Not a £90 room
Not even a £50 room!!
Bathroom door did not close
Paper thin walls.
Traffic noise
As pub not open when we left, I wasn't sure where to leave the key.
Not the pub's fault particularly but road to the pub from motorway was closed, meaning a lengthier diversion.
- Nikki122 (9/5): It was value for money - Local bus service close by that suited us to travel to a local music venue The noice being right outside a parcel pick up point , and the noise from next door shower or toilet sounded like a ferry was coming
- jay (5/5): Ok for a overnight stop would not recommend the accommodation - Food was very good at the Chiverton Arms staff were excellent Lodge was clean had been decorated shower not working very hot first day cold the second did bring it to the attention of the cleaner more attention to the amenities needed
- Rebecca (8/5): -
- Baldershot (10/5): Relaxed friendly place to stay - Staff were really friendly
Dinner was excellent using locally sourced food
Accommodation was clean and comfortable
Easy access to Truro City FC
Good choice of beers Nothing
- Eric (8/5): - Very nice people and made to feel welcome. Rather noisy by the road
- Nikki (8/5): Accommodation is great. Pub is great. Staff were great. Food was great. Location was great. Everything was great and the - Authentic pub
Decent lodges for short stay and travelling No milk for tea & coffee in lodge.
Could hear the traffic very clearly with windows and doors shut. Also could hear people in next room talking (normal voices) - ideally wants some sound proofing between rooms and around doors and windows.
- Jayne (3/5): Very basic not value for money - Not a lot location was good Very noisy not very clean
- M (5/5): Would have been better if their was a breakfast. - Needed a little TLC in the room and it was very convenient for the journey that I was doing. No breakfast!!!!
- Sean (10/5): - Perfect staff nothing to much trouble .and room was as expected. Needs a quick touch up paint wise .and.no.breakfast .

- Maureen (10/5): Excellent room everything you need and more the staff were very friendly and helpful and the foid was excellent - Close to where we wanted to visit bus service if wanted a no car day was good Parking was a struggle at times would have been nice to have reserved space fir the lodges
- Tamara (8/5): -
- Robert (10/5): Very comfortable - Great food and lovely staff Parking a bit tight for my big van but a space came available so no problem
- Gnaneshwer (4/5): I can’t stay more than 1 night, as it’s not comfortable! - Smelly and bathroom door is open. Bed, facilities, bathroom door etc
- Helen (8/5): Very good -
- David (5/5): Under circumstances, good. - Easy for us to get to knowing the location. Handy after our family meeting. Rooms clean but shower issues in 1. Could have done with a 'lick of paint' outside and plant pots weeding.
Some cleaning issues in 1.
- Bastian (7/5): Good - Good location, close to the A30 exit and 10 mins drive to Porthtowan beach. My room is located next to the main road so I can hear the traffic when it's busy
- Anne (6/5): Pleasant -
- Lancett (9/5): Superb -
- Jeffrey (7/5): Comfortable room Good breakfast Friendly staff - Good breakfast and friendly staff Nothing
- Wendy (8/5): A bit noisy when the karaoke was on - There wasn't Breakfast
- Jonathan (7/5): Good -
- Emily (2/5): Terrible value for money. Would recommend a rusty shed as a more suitable alternative!! - Not much to be honest 1. The food served in the bar area was past its best. The salad was off and borderline mouldy. It really was below standard and unacceptable.
2. The water kept running in the toilet for 28 minutes after it had been flushed.
3. The walls were very thin so you could here everything in the other rooms
4. The rooms smelt
5. Just off a main road so was very noisy
- Kelly (9/5): Great stay - Staff were great and room was perfect for what we wanted.
Bus stops right outside going to and from Newquay Nothing really
- Paul (10/5): Enjoyed my stay - I like the fact the room was next to the pub in another building and not in the main pub . My room was a little dated but a very good size and the bathroom was a very good size also and the shower had a good pressure and was lovely and hot . The bed and pillows were very comfy had a good night sleep on both my nights . The room was clean and had everything in needed the only thing missing was a small fridge but thats personal preferance. The staff in the pub were great very friendly and helpful . The food in the restuarant was very nice very tasty and the bar was well stocked with plenty of choice . The pub has a good size car park but does get full in the evening but i never had any trouble parking . Nothing
- Slavko (6/5): Pleasant -
- Pyae (5/5): Passable - The location is close to most great places so it was great to get to most popular towns without having a long drive. The bathroom was not the cleanest and the bathroom door does not close. The place is worn down than what it is in the pictures.
- Theresa (8/5): Perfect for visiting my son in hospital - Comfortable bed and room Very noisy road and WiFi would not connect
- Peahen (9/5): Superb - The room was very comfortable, and quiet.
The food in the inn was plenty and delicious. There was no coffee or milk in the room.
Also the wall was very thin so we could hear the shower, and muted tv.
- John (6/5): Cheap and cheerful - No breakfast included or available. A pity Room a bit basic. Ensuite door didn't shut properly.
- Donna (7/5): Good -
- Teudor (9/5): Clean, tidy, handy location, great staff. - Huge thanks to all the staff and owners for their support and kindness at a difficult time.
T is doing amazingly well now and getting better everyday. Thankyou so much. X Breakfast option would have been nice.
- Martin (9/5): Excellent value, great food and comfortable. - Clean, tidy, easy check in, comfortable room, good wi fi, excellent evening meal. Water pressure for the shower was quite weak
- Alex (8/5): Very good - No breakfast with room, but places to get breakfast were close by. Dinner was good in pub next door and staff were helpful.
- Peter (7/5): Good night's stay near Backwater with great meals. - The pub was excellent. I had a good evening meal. The room was good and large and comfortable. Toiletries were provided. There was a socket for phone charging. There was an excellent carpark by the room. Staff were friendly. The location was difficult to find by sat nav using the post code. I had 3 sat navs. The one built into the car took me to a ford on a tiny lane and told me I'd arrived. The Tomtom and Phone took me to other nearby places. Sat navs are notoriously poor at finding addresses. Additional advice on Booking.com would be appreciated.
- Chris (7/5): Work trip to Cornwall - Pub food was very good and well priced Room was basic but fine for work trip
- Jochim (9/5): Superb -
- Anastasiia (8/5): Very good - The room was spacious, it was clean, there was parking next to the house I don't pay attention to the noise of cars, so I ignored other comments, but an elderly couple who were through the wall woke up at 6 am and were just talking, but I could hear it as if they were in my room and then at 9 am they started drilling in another room, this gave me a headache all day
- Richard (8/5): Booked for it’s location to Perranporth Airfield from that respect it was ideal local pub & restaurant with good men - Comfortable for a short stay ……. Booked this location for the B & B but shocked that there was no breakfast ? Some reviews stated a lovely breakfast others said no breakfast so really disappointed that it was £80 just for accommodation?
- Carnel (7/5): Good -
- Bunney (10/5): Our weekend away from Devon was just perfect. We would recommend the Chiverton Arms to everyone. - Breakfast not available, but all other aspects of the stay were perfect. The meals were great and the entertainment well worth the visit.
Room was fine and cosy with a lovely comfortable bed. Nothing to dislike.
- Bakhtani (8/5): Very good -
- Mvurume (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (6/5): Pleasant - Car park was full and I couldn’t park when I returned from evening out
- Gallagher (10/5): Friendly and convenient. Ideal for short stop overs 😊 - No breakfast. Location nice and convenient More milk and coffee would be good!
- Debbie (9/5): Superb - Wes and Sophie were the most perfect hosts - so welcoming and helpful - we were at a family event at the Chiverton arms which they hosted so well.thank you so much 😍
- Horner (5/5): It was a nice place , a nice food but But where I stayed was really noisy other people.Next door We - I was alight, but um, the next door people were very noisy. An Arguall all night I got sleep not as much
- Paul (8/5): Would return there next year because the hotel met all our requirements. - Clean, basic accommodation. Food was very good. Good value for money. Parking available on site. Location suited us for our access to A30. Room uncarpeted so cold on your feet unless you preferred to walk about in your shoes. The view from our lodge was unimportant to us, but might be a factor for some.
- Iain (10/5): excellent value for money - The accommodation whilst basic, was excellent value for money and very clean. Due to the remote location we ate and drank at the pub and what a good job we did, the staff were very friendly and the food was terrific. very generous portions and very reasonable prices. I will stay here again without hesitation if working in the area again.
- Mark (10/5): Great weekend - Great time ideal for what we needed!staff very friendly!will definitely come again!.
- Phil (10/5): Exceptional -
- Garry (5/5): Okay for a head down wake up and go - It is what it is for £60 No comment
- Jamie (5/5): See above - N/a Tired decor, shower superb. Shower enclosure and cheap nylon 70’s curtain awful. Heating did not work. Just lacked care and investment
- Stephen (7/5): Definitely 💯 stay here again.. omg there food amazing and music entertainment amazing show just need a little more time - To be totally honest… did really feel comfortable and wanted to let you know that the staff and owed buildings manager s family fantastic .. the beauty lies with in and the history the owner’s presence presents the preservation upon greatest grounds in particular part of Cornwall… wonderful place to stay over and start new day in a life 🙏💪💯👨🎨💫🍱🍻 Only downside a little more sounding needs or could do with updating.. quite noisy outside traffic?got few options for this ideally suited? Oh n maybe just look at the heating? Would love to just get the chance to incorporate a whole wall space that could accommodate every room in the lodges? Just a thought thinking you have my number I’m a local wood artist in Cornwall and would love to donate some of my time.. wish for selling some of my artwork / ideas that have become pieces pictured around our globe 🙏👨🎨💫
- Steve (3/5): Don't Bother! - The staff were nice. The chalet style rooms are old and need getting rid of. Thin walls, poor heating and poor quality fittings. Horrible nights sleep. Cold room with no instructions of how to operate the essential comforts.
- Martyn (7/5): Good -
- Virginia (3/5): Cold - Staff were friendly and the pub was welcoming and fun There was often no hot water for showers-it became obvious that this was not a one off but that if all three cabins were occupied then the boiler was unable to cope with providing enough water for everyone to shower. Having experienced cold showers the first night we had an early shower the second night and could then hear the sudden shriek of surprise as the people in the cabin next door were suddenly subjected to very cold water. (The walls between cabins were very thin)
- Donna (4/5): Disappointing - Bar staff were welcoming and I was able to watch football in the pub Could hear the guest next door coughing all night. Expected to hear a little rumble of traffic, did not expect to feel I was sleeping on the road verge. Could see people walking passed the room. Shower was very poor and the TV didn't work
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Phil (9/5): Superb -
- Sian (8/5): Very good - Comfortable and cosy room. Gorgeous and fantastic value food in the pub. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Great value for money. A little road noise, but calmed down overnight.
- Amelia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Langford (7/5): Good -
- Adam (10/5): Exceptional - Very good value
- Adam (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean good value
- Lynn (8/5): Excellent, convenient for hospital, friendly - Exceptionally friendly staff, food home cooked and generous portions, enjoyed the quiz night the regulars were very welcoming. Clean room, comfortable bed, hot shower Cold when we arrived but quickly rectified, mirror was hung too low to be helpful, one picture hung too low so when sitting up in bed my head hit the rim of the picture, just small things
- Nicholas (3/5): Pass able - It was really cold Heater kept switching off and no heater in the shower room
- Collyer (4/5): Couldn't wait to leave. - Pub food was OK. very basic I was expecting B&B but no breakfast included in the price
- Debbie (8/5): Very good - Really lovely food. Friendly place. Would def eat there again. Re staying over night... yes you can hear the occupants from the other room but in all fairness you can hear guests in our spare room in our house, and these people did seem louder than I would say is the norm, so it wouldn't stop me staying again tbh as our room was very nicely presented, very clean and a comfy bed and I feel that they care for the customer re the little things shown in the room. They bothered to put the heating on for us prior to us dropping off our stuff in the room. So all in all a pleasant one night stay on the way home.
- Kevin (5/5): Passable -
- Morgan (10/5): Location Lunch and friendly helpful staff - Good Location Great for accessibilty in to truro amazing sunday Lunch, Good Value Drinks and good atmosthper, will be back again both to stay and have a Great Sunday Lunch N/A Everything was great
- Martin (9/5): Superb - Excellent value, excellent food, comfortable room and self contained away from the pub. Friendly and helpful staff, easy and efficient check in. No breakfast options were available
- Jason (8/5): Very good - It’s 👍
- Sean (1/5): Bad - It was grubby
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Besik (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (9/5): Lovely stay - I liked the self contained unit which was separate from the pub . The room was a good size very clean and comfy . Also liked you could control the heating which was very good as the weather was very wet when I stayed . The owners and staff were brilliant very helpful and polite . Had a good size car park which can quickly fill up in the day and evening but I didn’t have an issue on the 2 days I was there . The food in their restaurant was very nice . Nothing
- Frantz (3/5): Unsatisfactory. - The location was handy and the food in the evening was okay. The owners seemed to resent their relationship with booking.com
I felt that the landlord (not a people person) treated me very coldly as if I had cheated him by using the website. Had it not been for booking.com, I wouldn’t have known that they were there.
The room was clean but very basic. The walls were so thin that I could clearly hear the people in the adjacent room chatting, arguing, going to the toilet, having sex and do on. They might as well have been in the same room.
The building where they put the guests need knocking down and building properly with insulation and soundproofing.
Had rooms been £40 then one would shrug and put up with it but at £72 this was not good value. I appreciate that rooms have got more expensive of late but this is still very overpriced.
Breakfast was a bit rubbish too.
No proper receipts given for food.
The rooms look fine in the pictures which is quite deceiving.
- Helen (8/5): Good value stay with great service. - Conviently located for our day trip to Lands End & enroute to Tintagel.
Great hospitality from the bar & restaurant. All good
- Tom (7/5): Basic, but served the purpose for one night. - The pub had fantastic sea shanty entertainment, very helpful and friendly staff and an extensive menu
Surprisingly quiet as it was next to a pub and on a main road.
Room was very clean. Very small. Bed was tiny for two.
Bathroom had a small sink with a glass shelf above it which made it difficult to wash my face.
The room was rather tired.
Garlic mushrooms were too hard to pierce with a fork.
- Natalie (7/5): Perfect for what we needed for a short stay. -
