Guest Reviews
- Wouterus (10/5): - De stilte en de omgeving Het vinden van de locatie
- Becky (10/5): - The cutest cottage in a beautiful setting. Everything was just perfect inside and out Nothing
- Paul (9/5): Quiet country retreat. - The property was well equipped, roomy and very well presented for our arrival. The only extra item that would have been beneficial, would have been a standing fan of some sort, because it was rather warm. The location is perfect for those who are seeking a quiet escape in the Devon countryside, especially if you have a dog. I would certainly recommend this property as one to book for a country escape. My only slightly negative observation was the final track down to the property was uneven and quite narrow and could present a little challenge for a nervous driver with a larger car than my Mazda 2. In addition, on two occasions we met vehicles coming up the track and the reverse was not too easy to negotiate.
- R. (8/5): - Mooie ruime cottage. Om er te komen moet je over een onmogelijk smal en hobbelig weggetje.
- Robert (10/5): Charming countryside cottage! Does what it says on the tin - So quiet, great views, beautifully renovated. Patio out the back is a lovely sun trap. Well equipped kitchen, nice hot shower, comfy bed. Good parking. Very clear check-in instructions and directions Access road is very narrow.. and a bit rough.. pleased we brought a Golf and nothing wider / lower
- Alison (10/5): Idylic rural retreat perfect for a relaxing isolation. - Idyllic rural location. Owls at night, sheep during the day. Spacious cottage, well equipped. Small details just right. Immaculately clean and freshly decorated. The access track is very narrow.
- Christine (8/5): Very good -
- Ellen (10/5): Exceptional - The cottage was immaculate. Very clean, very tidy and well appointed. The cottage was much larger than expected and very comfortable. It was rural and away from noise, traffic and hubbub which is exactly what we were looking for. The fact that we could bring our dog with us was a definite feature. We couldn't have asked for anything more and had the most lovely break away. We can't wait to return. The only (small) downside was the path we had to follow to reach the cottage. As we have a large car it was very tight to drive, but we were warned about this in advance and really it was no problem at all.
- Hayley (10/5): Excellent cottage in a beautiful setting - The cottage was well appointed with everything we needed; everything was clean and in good condition. The cottage was in a peaceful location and views across the valley were beautiful.
The instructions provided to find the cottage were very helpful, as we wouldn't have thought to drive down the bumpy lane without them.
The only thing that could have been improved would be a little fence around the rear garden area so the dog could sit outside with us.
- Bryonie (10/5): Amazing barn will defo be back - Was perfect doggie holiday Could do with a fence at the back so enclose slightly
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional - Almost everything Sofa in living room.
- Christopher (9/5): Quiet, peaceful and comfortable place for a restful break. - The cottage was comfortable, very clean and well appointed. We were kept warm despite storm Bert and the location was quiet and peaceful, ideal for a restful break. Nothing.
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Fuller (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lawrence (8/5): Lovely little place in a beautiful rural location. Highly recommended if you need to escape! -
- Jenny (10/5): A memorable stay! - A beautifully appointed cottage in a marvelous situation. We loved staying in such a peaceful, historic site. We felt very lucky to stay at Shilstone Nothing, it was perfect! :)
- Harris (8/5): Very good - It was great that we could bring our dogs here.
The accommodation is spacious, comfortable and clean.
The estate is very pretty.
Nice that there are seating areas front and rear of the cottage. Would have liked a small part of the grounds next to the cottage to be enclosed.
The barn next to the cottage is in a state of renovation. (Not currently being worked on though).
- Thomas (9/5): Lovely property in a great location - Lovely apartment, good views. Good location between Dartmoor and coast. Bucolic setting within country estate grounds. Be mindful that a larger car might have difficulty getting down track.
- Angela (5/5): Lovely property. - Place was lovely. Very beautiful and the property was really nice. The lanes to get to the estate were very narrow and not good if you met oncoming traffic and the actual lane to get to the property was awful.
- John (9/5): Hideaway in the hills. - A very nice place to stay if you’re attending a wedding at the bug house. Slightly narrow track down to the house but ok if you go slowly.
For the house itself has it all!
- Alan (10/5): Perfect countryside retreat - Very cosy cottage in a lovely setting. Was very clean and we had everything we needed. Great for people with pets. Everything
- Jonathan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jonathan (6/5): Lovely stay however the access to the property alongside the bug infestation in the utility room ruined our experience. - Lovely rural location We had an issue with a bug infestation in the utility room and therefore didn’t use the room for the whole stay which was a let down, leading to us leaving a day early. The access to the property was difficult and with a low car we struggled.
- Yasmin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (10/5): Charming, relaxing, perfect - It was perfect for our requirements, everything we could have wished for . Beautiful location, wonderfully set out . Attention to detail was perfect
- Sara (10/5): Exceptional - Very pretty and comfortable cottage, with gorgeous views Had trouble with one window not closing but Left a note for staff who sorted it after we left.
- Anonymous (10/5): Perfect weekend away - Stunning cottage and beautiful area perfect weekend away
- Tom (8/5): Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We will be back. - The location was lovely, nice and private with everything you would need. The sofa was not very comfortable and very low so difficult to get up from. Seems cheap compared to the quality of the property. I would also say I thought the bedding was also poor quality, a double duvet is only just about big enough but was lumpy and again didn’t seem to fit with the quality of the accommodation.
We had an issue when we arrived as the keypad code Booking.com sent didn’t work. There was no signal to call anyone. Then I searched through emails and found another different code that worked! Just an fyi really.
- Danielle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Serena (9/5): Peaceful relaxing cottage - Quiet rural location, barn beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. comfy bed, modern bathroom with everything you could need and modern spotless bathroom. TV wouldn’t connect to internet so can’t access any apps like Netflix etc which wasn’t a major issue but might be for some.
- Anna-marie (8/5): Beautiful estate and cottage - Beautiful scenery and view out the back, just beautiful Lack of privacy from bridal parties getting ready everyday. Anyone had the ability to walk up to the garden where we were sitting to have coffee/ use chairs outside the front of the cottage. It was hired out separately to the bridal parties and should be offered in the package to them. They also have early starts and are excited so wake up guests who may not be part of a wedding. It didn’t feel very private the day after our friends wedding as many people are out including photographers etc
- Ayton (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joanne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (10/5): Our stay here was lovely, peaceful came home feeling fully recharged - Very clean, the fire was a lovely touch plenty off wood. The bed was very uncomfortable for us, and the tv didn’t work. We didn’t contact the owners as we were quite happy without it but this maybe a problem for future guests neither issues where off any fault
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent property down a quiet country lane. Was the perfect location for walking the South West Coast Path. Nothing
- Charles (9/5): Most enjoyable - The isolation and peaceful surroundings. A little nervouse of the final aproach road.
- Sophia (9/5): Lovely - I stayed here for 3 days with my sister and our dogs during June. We were really pleasantly surprised by the cottage, there was lots of room for all of us and the setting was beautiful. The cottage backs onto some fields and there is some garden furniture to sit on which is really lovely. We had a great time, it is around 25/30 mins from any beaches but this didn't matter too much to us. We would definitely visit again. The drive down to the cottage on the property is intense. The road is very rocky and very very narrow (I have a small UP VW and the sides of my car were touching shrubbery by the side of the road. There is also a very steep hill that you have to go down to enter the property. I know there is another car park nearer the main building that I would suggest is used this cottage and maybe another vehicle used to take guests to their cottage as I can definitely see someone scraping their car of getting a tyre puncture.
- Sophia (9/5): Superb -
- Clive (10/5): Peaceful, beautiful, spacious - perfect! - An absolute gem. A beautiful cottage in a beautiful area. We loved this place and the whole estate is just wonderful. N/A
- Eleanor (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jane (9/5): fantastic location so peaceful - beautifully furnished and spotless nothing
- Corey (10/5): beautiful, however the lanes are scary if not used to driving them. beautiful place. - spacious and quiet, didn’t realise we had the whole cottage shown on the picture. For the price is a bargain. nothing
- Helen (9/5): A very enjoyable short break. - Comfortable, well equipped and very peaceful. Outside space a bit scruffy.
- Duane (10/5): Very quiet and relaxing place to stay - Cottage has everything you need, very clean, organised and comfortable. Lovely peace and quiet, and privacy sitting on the patio, listening and watching the wildlife in the surrounding trees and fields. Nothing really. But positive feedback for a country venue, the lanes in and out from the property are very long, narrow in parts, bumpy in places, sometimes difficult passing other cars. So, we found it easier to make plans to be out all day rather go back and forth.
- Paul (10/5): The perfect place to get away from it all. An exceptional property, finished to a real high standard. As relaxing as you - An “away from it all” idyllic countryside getaway Honestly have no bad words to say
- David (10/5): Comfortable and clean - Views and layout No wardrobes
- Shona (10/5): Exceptional - Had a lovely stay at the cottage set in a beautiful location that was tranquil and relaxing.
- Jamie (9/5): An enjoyable stay in South Devon, exploring the amazing coastline and Dartmoor! the cottage is cosy and tastefully decor - - Tastefully decorated
- very clean
- close to lots of great beaches and Dartmoor
- characterful cottage
- quiet and peaceful location
- lovely views - access to the property may be tricky for larger vehicles, although this was not a problem for us and we would book again
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional - The stunning views
The quiet
Close proximity to Salcombe, Dartmouth, hope cove The mattress was too firm, but that's just individual taste and can't cater for everyone! Otherwise nothing, absolutely stunning
- Matt (10/5): Exceptional -
