Guest Reviews
- Steve (8/5): Very friendly and conveniently positioned - Convenient location near to local amenities. Ample parking. Very friendly hosts. Single beds a bit small for adults.
- Ashley (10/5): - Location and how friendly and welcoming the staff was
- Noel Brijesh (10/5): Victoria Lodge felt less like a place to stay and more like a home filled with warmth, kindness, and genuinely beautiful - My stay at Victoria Lodge was honestly exceptional from start to finish. The husband-and-wife hosts are truly phenomenal people with such beautiful souls. They went above and beyond to make sure my stay was comfortable, welcoming, and memorable in every possible way.
When I unfortunately became unwell, they showed incredible kindness and compassion, even upgrading my single room to a double room completely free of charge. That level of care and generosity is something you rarely come across these days. They genuinely treated me like family rather than just a guest.
The lodge itself was immaculate — beautifully maintained, peaceful, and incredibly homely. The lounge area was spotless and very relaxing, the breakfast was delicious with lovely home-cooked food, and the views from the lodge were absolutely stunning. The large garden added to the charm and tranquillity of the place, and there was plenty of parking available which made everything so convenient.
You can truly feel the warmth, love, and care the hosts put into this place. Victoria Lodge is not just somewhere to stay — it’s somewhere that makes you feel looked after and valued. I cannot recommend it highly enough, and I will definitely be returning.
- TREVOR (8/5): -
- Emma (10/5): Great hidden gem! - Very friendly, great location for town & beach, very dog friendly! Great hospitality and breakfast (cooked and continental)
- Kar Yee (10/5): - Amazing seaside view from our window. Made even more brilliant every sunrise. Breakfast was always a good spread with yummy homemade jams and marmalades. Also very close to local attractions like the old village, shanklin chine and the beach. Nice outdoor area with a pond where we could relax after a big walk around natural reserves close by. Very friendly staff who made sure we knew our way around the island.
- Leona (10/5): Great value & great location! - Clean, complete, and an easy walk to town, the old village, and the beach.
- Elaine (10/5): Friendly , comfortable, lovely food. Great cooked breakfast .Made to feel welcome and comfortable. Lovely home made jam - Lovely place to stay. Not far from beach or town. Nothing bad to say
- Karen (9/5): - Very welcoming and friendly.
- Estela (10/5): Lovely stay! - We tend to book our hols a year in advance. For this reason we had “slipped through,” in that the owner had decided to have a weekend off, for her birthday, but our booking had been made before this decision was taken.. so we had the hotel to ourselves as the owner kindly honoured our booking anyway!
The beds were comfortable. The shower was very good. Our view was delightful - church spire in the foregound and the sea in the background. I had a very nice pastry breakfast with homemade jams and lemon curd. My partner had a very tasty cooked breakfast. There were two lovely dogs (one resident) and we also met a charming cat whilst hearing tell of three others!
- CRISTIANA (8/5): -
- craig (10/5): Reviving stay and friendly folk. - Cracking breakfast and general good vibe of a place.Very friendly cat at large. na
- Robin (9/5): - Enjoyed our stay, Alysa and family very welcoming and friendly.Room clean and comfortable and a good selection for breakfast. Nothing.

- Amanda (10/5): - Great location, clean and comfy room, friendly hosts
- latif (10/5): -
- Ashley (10/5): An excellent hotel in a great location. - The hotel was a very short walk from Shanklin Old Village. There was enough parking on site during our short stay in December. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was great and had sea views. A nice breakfast was included. We didn't go to the beach on this occasion, as we were on the Island due to a bereavement.
- Mark (8/5): -
- Elizabeth (9/5): Super stay in Shanklin - Our exceptional hostess Alysa couldn't have been more helpful. A gem of a hotel, with views of the sea. Fantastic breakfast (and that was without a full English!), with home made jams, granola etc. As for comfort - well, I slept until 8.45am, so that says it all! If we return to Shanklin, we know where to stay next time. We were only there for one night!
- Jo (10/5): - What a gem. Right in the middle of the old town and new town. The hosts Lys & Pez are absolutely amazing nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast 12/10 everything cooked to perfection homemade granola and preserves. Beautiful views over Shanklin Bay. Couldn't ask for anything more - thank you we had a wonderful holiday.
- Gavin (10/5): If I could give it 11 I would. - Loved everything about it. Pez & Alysa couldn’t do enough for us nothing was too much trouble. Our sea view room was so clean & comfortable with everything you’d need provided. The breakfast’s were amazing with such a range of food on offer(fresh fruit, pastries, cereals & delicious cooked breakfast & homemade preserves for toast afterwards if you had room😃)
Wi-Fi was good & plenty of free private parking available which is very handy. Nothing at all we didn’t want to leave!
- Paul (10/5): Great place to stay - We really appreciated the friendliness and helpfulness of staff. The breakfast was excellent.
- Jonathan (7/5): -
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional hospitality and great value - The best property I have stayed in on the Island, and I have stayed in a few over the years! Perfect location within Shanklin (5 minutes from the station, the beach and the old village), exceptional breakfast, comfortable room, lovely "family" atmosphere, and excellent, "chilled-out" service. I didn't have time during my short visit to relax in the front garden, with its sun loungers and picnic benches, but it looked very pleasant. Highly recommended!
- Geoffrey Chalmers (10/5): Nice. Staff lovely. Lottie the doggy was cool too - Great breakfast. Lovely Hosts. Very helpful and welcoming
- Ian (9/5): -
- kevin (10/5): Home from home for the perfect break away. - Dog friendly hotel, very welcoming, home from home
Perfect location, breakfast was superb,
Everyone was so polite,
Thanks for having us.
- Diane (10/5): Two night stay which felt like home from home! - Great location perfect for Shanklin Old Village and Beach. The breakfast was freshly cooked with quality ingredients plus gorgeous pastries and fresh juices. We will return Nothing - all good
- CHERRY ANN (9/5): -
- Jennifer (10/5): A fabulous stay in a lovely hotel - Lovely friendly hosts ,very clean room ,sea veiw ,delicious full English breakfast with homemade jams
- caterina (8/5): -
- Yvonne (9/5): Home from home - We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. The hosts were incredibly helpful. The breakfast was exceptional and the view from the breakfast room is lovely. Comfortable beds. The room was quite small, but adequate for a short stay.
- Mark1973 (10/5): TOP LODGE - What a wonderful place to stay. Received a warm welcome from the friendly owners. Got a free upgrade from a single to a double room which was fantastic. My room was spotless and had everything i needed. The breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice from cereals, fruit, pastries and cooked breakfast. The property is ideally located for exploring Shanklin and has good transport links to the rest of the island. Overall i throughly enjoyed my weeks stay and can't recommend this lodge highly enough Everything was perfect
- Craig (9/5): no - Great place n/a
- Margaret (10/5): A home away from home where you’re greeted like an old friend. I truly love it here… - I’ve just had the most amazing stay at Victoria Lodge Hotel. As soon as you arrive you are greeted like an old friend. The staff couldn’t do more for you ans don’t get me started on just how DELICIOUS the breakfast was… More on that later..!
The hotel’s lounge and breakfast area have a sensational view of the sea, Culver Down, and Shanklin itself. I had the same view from my bedroom window. Picture perfect. There’s a lovely little garden that you can also use with chairs and picnic tables if you’d rather sit outside in the sunshine instead of relaxing in the very homely lounge. It’s plastic free so there’s tea and coffee making facilities in your room and downstairs in the breakfast area there’s a fridge full of milk and ceramic milk jugs for you to help yourself to and take a jug of fresh cold milk back to your room. Much better than the mini UHT milks you usually get which don’t taste wonderful and truth be told the plastic does our environment no good.
The bed in the room was really comfy and the bathroom really nice too. Hot shower and powerful too! Just what you need first thing. Nice little desk, two bedside tables with lamps. Plenty of usb ports to charge gadgets and a wardrobe for your clothes. Everything you need for your stay basically! Lovely seaside theme to the colours, bedding and pictures too.
Breakfast was amazing, best hotel breakfast I’ve ever had by far .. please see next paragraph as booking. Com won’t let me add enough words here to describe it!
Thank you all so much,
From Louise
(Margaret’s daughter as mum booked this for me) Everything was perfect! Just one example - The owner makes her own jam and curd, best I’ve ever tasted. There’s a buffet of cold breakfasts you can help yourself too as much as you want and the full English is cooked to order and with mine I had poached eggs cooked to perfection which is really hard to do, believe me I’ve tried! There’s view as you eat your amazing breakfast is just heavenly too. I really do love this place.
- Rikta (8/5): Lovely location, and nice expansive lounge area to relax in. - The host was friendly and welcoming. The location was decent. The food served up at breakfast was good quality. We loved the home made jam and lemon curd. The cats were also fun to have around. The walls in the bedroom were thin so our late night chatter unfortunately disturbed the guest next door.
There were a couple of guests at breakfast expression their obnoxious views. I wish the host had heard them!
- Veronica (8/5): It a good place to stay. Bed was comfortable and room was clean - It was quiet and easy to reach My room didn’t have a lock
- Elizabeth (8/5): Cute bed and breakfast - Our stay at Victoria Lodge was really nice. Cute room with an ensuite and tea and coffee facilities! Alysa and her family were all very welcoming. Alysa was so kind and catered for me gluten free which I was so surprised and touched by. Breakfast was incredible and the homemade jams and curds to die for! Has more of a personal touch than a hotel, Would recommend 😊
- Benjamin (6/5): Pleasant - Friendly welcome, room was basic but had everything I needed. Decent breakfast. Would’ve been helpful to have had a proper desk in my room to use my laptop on, but nothing else
- Irina (10/5): Exceptional - Great and convenient location in a lovely town, friendly and accommodating host and amazing cooked vegan breakfast. Good price. Room could be a bit bigger.
- Isabel (10/5): Perfect IOW getaway location - Elysa was exceptionally kind and helpful. Bed was very comfy and bedroom perfectly clean. Location was ideal, just 2 mins away from start of coastal walk, 5 mins from nearest shops/ places to eat. Beautiful view of sea from breakfast room/ lounge and some very comfy lounge chairs. Will definitely be staying again next time I visit IOW.
- Lynn (10/5): Exceptional - I was upgraded to a double room.
- Viktor (10/5): Fantastic value for a good price - Amazing guesthouse near the main sights of Shanklin. Neat room and common areas, very friendly and helpful staff, delicious homemade breakfast and lovely views.
- Tim (10/5): Lovely sea view and great for families! - The hosts were lovely and friendly and really wanted us to enjoy our time with them - that included their dog too! They certainly did a fantastic job with the breakfast and are really good for gluten free which was a need for us that worked really well. Can't really think of anything that was problematic. The one thing many hotels don't always do is provide a Gideon bible as really like reading them on my travels but even this hotel did have one so it's brilliant. Even the curtains as I remember kept the bright light out from the rising sun in the morning that may have made sleeping there hard but that wasn't a problem either so really can't find anything I could legitimately claim to not like.
- Jerry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tammy (10/5): I was only there for two nights, and the inn and staff made me wish I could stay for longer! - For me, amenities can make or break a stay at an inn; Victoria Lodge provided a lovely common area, an expansive breakfast/snack/tea selection, and highly responsive staff. I truly enjoyed chatting with Pez, who was able to respond to any of my needs and answer any questions that I had. Nothing - I wish I could have stayed longer!
- Debbie (10/5): Surpreme
in Shanklin - Very welcoming friendly staff. Carried my bag to room for me up flight of stairs. Excellent breakfast. Felt comfortable and safe as solo female traveler
Stunning sea views My stay was too short
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional - Fab friendly staff and hotel clean and comfy with a homely vibe. All good
- Douglas (10/5): Very well looked after, and very attentive staff and owner! - Great welcome - nothing too much of a problem. Ideal location , and good breakfast!
- Steve (9/5): Comfortable place - Everything. Good place to stay. Will be going again Nothing
- Hart (10/5): Friendly and accommodating staff, comfortable room, really good value - Light, airy room with a sea view - excellent value I liked everything about the property
- R (10/5): Amazing people - Amazing people great stay
- Simon (10/5): Nice family run hotel - Easy to find and park. Everything you needed. Great, friendly hosts. Nothing.
- Hephzi (10/5): Fantastic stay! - Very friendly host. Ideal location. Tasty breakfast freshly cooked with love. 100% recommended. Nothing
- Amy (9/5): Superb - I wrote a scathing review yesterday regarding this accommodation. This morning I have had a telephone call from Lisa, the owner of the property. After listening to my valid reasons for the poor review, Lisa explained the situation from her point of view and it appears that the booking failed due to lack of communication from booking.com. We both fully understood and accepted each others explanations leading to my review and I would like to make it clear that next time I am on the island,I would be more than happy to stay at Victoria Lodge.
- Steven (10/5): Shanklins' little gem - No hassle no frills comfortable hotel, everything you want or need, very relaxed, looked after by Pez who was attentive bit not over the top. I would recommend it anytime. There was nothing to not like, okay it wasn't 5 star luxury but you definitely have everything you need.
- Paul (8/5): Why stay anywhere else in Shanklin? - Convenient position, very good value, friendly staff, comfortable bed and an excellent breakfast
- Mark (10/5): Excellent place to stay - Excellent hosts, comfortable rooms, great location. We wasade to feel very welcome. The breakfast was spectacular. Nothing, would stay again.
- Simon (9/5): Superb - Very tidy well decorated for Christmas and overall very welcoming
- Philip (9/5): Superb -
- David (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly welcome from Hosts and Comfortable accomodation .
Breakfast great.
Cleanliness great.
Homely enviroment
- Patrick (10/5): Lovely hotel. - Excellent location, Close to town centre.
Alisa and her brother could not do enough for us . Very friendly nothing was too much trouble. Everything was fine.
- Sharon (10/5): A fabulous family-run, little gem!! 💎 - I loved everything about this little gem of a hotel! It's a family-run hotel and I was looked after like family! Amazing views, great location, clean and comfortable room which had everything I needed. Very generous breakfast with home-made jams, cereals, bread, fruit etc and a freshly cooked to order full english, or whatever you want really. The hosts were amazing and couldn't do enough for you. The beautiful lounge / bar area overlooks the sea and has lots of games available to play, I will bring my son next time, he will love it! Nothing to dislike really, it was all fantastic!
The only thing I could suggest is perhaps put a small fan heater in the rooms for when the heating isn't on in the hotel. I understand you can't have all the radiators on all the time, but when it is as cold as the few days when I was there, that would have been a bonus! (For me anyway, I do feel the cold 🥶)
- Michelle (10/5): A lovely little winter break - The property was perfectly located just a few minutes walk to town or the beach/seafront.
It’s been recently refurbished to a high standard both inside and out.
The host was fab, we were completely spoilt for our stay. Nothing was too much trouble.
Breakfast was lovely with a fantastic range including homemade jams and fresh cooked breakfast. Evening meals are also available to order. (We didn’t get to try them this time around) The lounge has a well stocked bar and board games that my little one loved.
We will be returning. Thank you for a lovely stay xx We regretted not booking a longer stay!
- Kevlin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (10/5): My new favourite hotel on the Island! - As a frequent visitor to the Isle of Wight for nearly 20 years, I have spent time in many different hotels. Although I have found a couple of favourites over the years, I can safely announce that they have been surpassed by my stay at Victoria Lodge!
This visit was a birthday treat for my son and from the moment we arrived we were made to feel incredibly welcome. Throughout the entire weekend, our gracious hosts did everything they could to ensure that our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. Nothing was too much trouble for them, and I am not just saying that - for once in a hotel review, that statement is 100% accurate, As this is a family run business, we were made to feel guests of the family, not just hotel patrons.
In terms of the location, Victoria Lodge is ideally placed within the town of Shanklin in a quiet road, away from traffic and footfall but still within easy walking distance of the beach, the town and the Old Village. Perfect!
The hotel had been recently refurbished to a very high standard with a lovely nautical/beach theme throughout. The dining area and lounge was particularly well laid out with so many options available for breakfast and chilled water and milk available in the fridge all day long. It would be remiss of me not to mention the cooked breakfast as this was exceptional - all freshly prepared to order using fresh ingredients. I miss it already!
A massive thank you to our gracious hosts for not only welcoming us to your hotel, but into your home. We cannot wait to come back!
- Paul (8/5): Good visit. - Very good breakfast. Good location. Heating in the shower room.
- Vincenza.r.95 (9/5): A fantastic dog-friendly stay with a great location and delicious breakfast. - 1 - Dog Friendly!!
2 - The breakfast was fantastic; they truly thought of everything. The homemade jams were delicious, bursting with flavour. They offered a wide range of options, including lactose-free and gluten-free, making it accessible for everyone. I was also impressed by their commitment to being plastic-free, which added an eco-friendly touch to the experience. Whether you're in the mood for a traditional English breakfast or something more international, they've got you covered. The bathroom was quite small.
- Sharmila (8/5): Lovely stay, clean rooms and good variety at breakfast. The hosts were very welcoming. - Clean and very quiet. Bed was very comfortable and breakfast was very good as well The toilet flush wasn’t working and the tank did not fill up after each flush. Had to remove the lid each time for it to fill up for the next flush. Thought there was shower gel available in the rooms but only one of the rooms had this.
- Luisella (10/5): Wonderful! - The owner was really friendly and helpful. He gave us information about the Shanklin and suggestions for restaurants. The breakfast was great, including home made jams, absolutely delicious.
Both rooms had sea view and were very spacious.
The wifi was fast.
The garden has nice lights and seats, and we had out take away dinner sitting there.
There is a big lounge, with comfortable sofas and chairs, and we stayed there a while after dinner. There is bar, reasonably priced.
The atmosfere was really lovely and relaxing, we felt at home.
We were allowed to leave our car in the hotel parking space even after we checked out. Nothing.
- Leanne (10/5): Lovley hotel beautiful room,amazing lemon curd,very nice welcome - Very clean,comfy beds,very warm welcome,lovley breakfast
- Steve (7/5): Just ok - Just ok Just ok
- Darren (10/5): Will definitely stay again - Clean, comfortable, great friendly owner
- Reevell (10/5): Don't miss out on this little gem!! - This is a little gem 💎 . We booked last minute due to our holiday being cancelled by another company so I just wanted something in our original budget.
We couldn't be happier than to have ended up here. The rooms were clean and comfortable, plenty large enough for us.
The owners were welcoming and friendly without being overbearing and were helpful with recommendations.
The breakfast was a really lovely surprise, cooked breakfast, cereal, toast, pastries, and yogurts. Nothing was too much trouble.
A comfortable lounge area and a small bar for an evening drink.
Situated a close walk to the main street and to the lift down to the beach.
We can't recommend this accommodation enough! There wasn't anything. 10 out of 10 all round.
- Beaman (8/5): Very good - Friendly, relaxed.
- Carol (8/5): Friendly staff, beautifully clean, great breakfast, location beautiful. - Breakfast was brilliant. It was just lovely.
- A.j (10/5): Exceptional -
- Magdalena (10/5): Excellent - Very nice
Close to ocean N/a
- Kayleigh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hanna (7/5): Good -
- Fiona (8/5): Friendly and informal atmosphere, like staying with family. - The location is excellent: close to the teashops, restaurants and shops of the Old Village and the beach. Parking on site for cars and close to the coastal bus stop. The staff are very friendly and knowledgable. A very good choice of breakfast options with allergies and preferences catered for. The bathroom is adequate but a little small for comfort.
- Deb (10/5): Warm, friendly welcome in a comfortable environment. would definitely stay again! - The location was excellent with lovely views.
Breakfast was fabulous, lots of choices from cooked to continental.
Coffee was lovely and hot.
We had a takeaway and staff provided us with plates and knives and forks and cleared up after us.
But most of all, the friendliness of the staff made the whole visit a pleasure. Nothing to be honest.
- Linda (3/5): Pretty poor but plenty of places to visit - Food fine bed comfy Staff lack of not clean enough attitude towards guests bad
- Lo (9/5): Superb -
- Lindesay (8/5): The owner was very friendly and welcoming which enhanced our stay. - The owner was very invested in the hotel and was working through a programme of improvement. Room very small.
