• Margarida (10/5): Amazing host, great atmosphere, and a comfortable stay that truly feels like home. - Nalaka is a great host and made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. We stayed in a private room, which was spacious and very clean. The breakfast was amazing, and the room was cleaned regularly with fresh towels provided often — they even give you beach towels. Nalaka manages the place wonderfully and really makes you feel at home. He also hosted a family dinner for everyone at the hostel, which was such a nice experience. I would definitely choose to stay here again if I come back to Arugam Bay.

De eigenaar is echt onwijs lief en helpt je echt met alles en is zeer betrokken bij al zijn gasten. Het ontbijt, wat inclusief was, was echt heel lekker!! De locatie was echt perfect. Al met al echt een heel fijn verblijf gehad!!

• Sarah (10/5): Perfect stay - The hotel is located very centrally only 200 meters from the beach. Still it’s very quiet. It is very well maintained with lots if love for details. It is also very clean and offers all you need. Breakfast is also very nice,healthy and big portions. I even had the honour to be invited for dinner at new years which, as a solo traveller, is highly appreciated. He was also very helpful in helping me organize my further trip. The owner and his team are doing a great job. And I can only highly recommend it.

The breakfast was always delicious, especially the banana pancakes and the porridge! They also cooked a meal for us, which was one of the best we had on our whole trip in Sri Lanka!

In addition the place is clean and well maintained and very well thought out, lights and sockets each side of bed, kettle, hairdryer etc…. Breakfast choice was a little different too with western and Sri Lankan options and huge portions and homemade banana cakes!! I would have preferred chairs to sit at outside instead of recliners but a miner niggle

• Wiebke (9/5): - Das Zimmer mit der Veranda war wirklich groß und schön eingerichtet. Es war sauber und wurde alle zwei Tage komplett gereinigt. Wir waren begeistert von dem tollen Personal, total gastfreundlich und es wurde oft nachgefragt, ob wir noch etwas brauchen. An einem Abend gab es sogar ein kostenloses ‚Family Dinner‘ für alle Gäste mit leckeren Sri Lankanischen Gerichten. Absolut empfehlenswert!! Wir hätten uns über etwas mehr Auswahl beim Frühstück gefreut aber das ist Kritik auf hohem Niveau.
• Tess (10/5): Super, aanrader in deze omgeving! - Hele ruime kamer en douche, erg schoon. Gastheer/personeel super vriendelijk! Ontbijt was niet super gevarieerd, maar de pannenkoekjes die ze hadden waren heerlijk! Het ligt iets van de hoofdstraat af, heerlijk rustig en je bent zo op het strand. Moskee in de buurt, dit maakte ons bij het ochtendgebed vroeg wakker. Dit duurde gelukkig niet lang, oordopjes in en lekker verder slapen ☺️
• Leonie (8/5): Hat uns sehr gefallen - jedoch ein bisschen zu teuer! - Das Frühstück war sehr lecker, jedoch ist die Auswahl, mit vier Möglichkeiten, sehr begrenzt. Die gesamte Anlange, sowie unser Zimmer, war sauber und machte einen gepflegten Eindruck. Hervorzuheben ist die sensationelle Lage - wenige Meter von der Mainstreet entfernt, trotzdem sehr ruhig gelegen. Das WLAN war nicht gerade das Beste. Liegt vielleicht auch daran, dass wir das hinterste Zimmer der Anlage hatten - vorne in der "Lobby" war es einwandfrei.

Since it’s a small hostel, it feels very familiar, which makes it easy to connect with everyone. The people I met here were incredible, and the atmosphere was perfect. The Sunday family dinner is a great way to meet other travelers and enjoy delicious traditional food. Breakfast is huge, tasty, and the coffee is excellent. Honestly, the best hostel I’ve stayed at in Sri Lanka so far. 100% recommend and I’d definitely return! Nothing

The location is fantastic, close to beach, yoga shack with multiple classes per day, quiet and safe. The rooms are well equipped.

• Franziska (9/5): Tolles Preis-Leistungsverhältnis bei tollem Gastgeber - Der Gastgeber und sein Team waren einfach super. Frühstück top, Bett super bequem und wurde während unseres Aufenthaltes sogar 2x das Zimmer gereinigt. Sehr zu empfehlen!

• Orlaith (10/5): Best hostel in Arugam Bay - I really liked the friendly and welcoming atmosphere at Agra Hostel. The space was clean, comfortable, and in a great location, but what really stood out was the hospitality. The owner, Nalaka, was absolutely brilliant - so helpful and genuine, he really made the stay memorable. Food was also amazing, I had both the Sri Lankan breakfast and the banana pancakes. And the coffee!!! Soooo good Literally nothing - I will definitely return!

Wir hatten das Superior Doppelzimmer. Safe im Zimmer wäre toll Besen im Zimmer oder ein Wasserbecken neben dem Eingang wäre wegen des Sandes gut

L’ambiance y est vraiment agréable, avec un espace commun convivial pour échanger, jouer au ping-pong ou aux jeux de société. La chambre était simple, propre et confortable, parfaite pour se reposer. L’accueil a été excellent et les petits déjeuners très bons. L’emplacement est idéal : proche de tout en étant en retrait de la rue principale, ce qui garantit un calme appréciable. Une adresse à recommander sans hésiter !

Fijne locatie en heerlijke kamer; van alle gemakken voorzien. Het ontbijt na het vroege surfen was heerlijk. Dankzij deze accomodatie een geweldige tijd in Arugam Bay gehad! Soms wat mieren in de badkamer, hier probeerden ze wel gelijk wat aan te doen.

At just 2 minutes walk from the main road, where you can find plenty of restaurants, and at 5 min walk from the beach makes it the perfect location. The family dinner was delicious, and it was also an occasion to meet the other guests. The staff was friendly and made us feel welcome. We liked everything, this is just a small note, we would have liked more breakfast options.

Best hotel/hostel so far - Very welcoming host that thinks of every detail: nice soaps, fresh towels, tea in the room and water cooker, small fridge, A cold bottle of water at arrival and a fresh coconut as welcome drink. Earplugs are nice to have since you can hear the prayer in the morning but that's okay. We slept very well.

• Ákos (10/5): Our best stay in Sri Lanka - The host was super helpful, as we told him that the AC in our room is not working properly. He immediately fixed the problem by calling the repair guys on a weekend evening. He also provided tons of useful hints and info about Sri Lanka. With one work he is a really cool and knowledgeable guy who runs his business impeccably. The breakfast was also marvelous (portion and taste). The only negative thing to mention is the smell in the bathroom (with closed door only the bathroom) which occurred time to time. (Might be because of the swampy land behind the building.)

The food is incredible… they made us a complimentary evening meal and it was beyond delicious. The breakfast was one of our favs in Sri Lanka. We loved it here and would definitely recommend.

• Núria (9/5): Superb - Agra arugambay is one of the best hostels I've been in Sri Lanka. Nalaka makes you feel like home in this cozy hostel full of the best vibes and good table games. He also gives you the best recommendations here in Arugam bay (restaurants, surf lessons with best teachers of the village, cocodrile sightseeing, etc). There's no mosquito net althought I didn't see any mosquito in the room.

I specifically appreciate the hostel’s location and the curtains around the dorm beds (which is rare in Sri Lanka). The bathrooms can use an update.

• Daisy (10/5): Our favourite place we’ve ever stayed! - This was our favourite stay during our Sri Lanka trip. The vibes, breakfast, coffee, hospitality, comfort and spaces were amazing. Nalaka, who runs the property there, is an incredible person who was so caring and genuine. The staff helped with washing, board hire recommendations, ran a cooking class, recommended restaurants and much more. We will be back as soon as possible! Nothing
• Jonno (10/5): Best hostel in Sri Lanka - This was the best hostel I've had in Sri Lanka. At first I was not sure to believe the high rating. But after staying here for 5 nights I can say I agree. The owner Nala is a great host. His english, hospitality, cooking skills and also his dance moves are the best. The dorms are clean, have AC, are very dark and each bed has its own electricity and curtain. I slept like a baby. The hostel is located at the end (or beginning) of the mainstreet. So everything is within walking distance. You can get your clothes cleaned 20 meters down the street, rent a surfboard 30 meters down the street. The common area is very chill, great place for a solotraveler to meet the other guests. Every week there are game nights or 'family' dinners. The hostel is very popular, I initially booked for 2 nights. And when I tried to extend they were full. Luckily I only had to sleep in another hostel for one night, I was able to book Agra for 3 more nights after. Thanks Agra, I really enjoyed my stay!

• Ádám (10/5): Awesome stay near the beach - We stayed for 4 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Chilled, laid back vibes, lovely host and awesome location. If you want to be away from the busy road but still close to the beach and restaurants, this is your spot! During our stay the host organized a “family dinner” which was really nice - a lot of the guests were present and the food was also delicious

Breakfast could have been better as the 4 options given were quite limiting. Specially for a local guest we found the breakfast pretty “meh”. Coffee was great though.

Nalaka is so lovely and funny and made my stay so pleasant, as well as being so helpful with advice and recommendations for amazing restaurants and onward transport. the second half of my stay in Arugam bay Agra was booked out but i found myself coming back everyday to say hi and hang out. the rooms are so gorgeous and clean and the hostel has such a family feel. 100% stay here everything exceeded expectations

• Zoe (10/5): PERFECT - My favourite hostel during my 7 week trip to Sri Lanka! I extended my stay to 3 weeks and didn’t want to leave. Nalaka and the team are so helpful, friendly, and all go above and beyond to make sure you feel right at home. The delicious breakfast, especially the amazing pancakes, was a highlight every morning! The atmosphere was perfect, social enough to meet people, yet chilled enough to unwind and relax. The location is perfect too. I highly recommend this hostel and can’t wait to return. Be warned, the only downside is that you will never want to leave this little slice of paradise!
• Anastasia (10/5): Exceptional - We lived in this hotel for 2 weeks. It was very atmospheric. The owner is very caring. It has its own vibe. Delicious breakfast, everyone liked it. The hotel's location is close to the ocean. I recommend!

• Shannon (10/5): Really recommend! - Agra is the best place to stay in the whole of Sri Lanka! If you are in Arugam bay you have to stay there! Rooms have A/C and breakfast is included! Breakfast is amazing; you can have porridge, pancakes or Sri Lankan breakfast( roti and dal with sambal) all options are cooked fresh with huge portions (I asked for half portions sometimes)! Fresh juice and tea & coffee are also provided for breakfast. Nalaka and his team are so lovely and make the place feel like home! Nalaka is super accommodating and taught me how to make aubergine curry. He even plays card games and chess with all the guests and it’s such a lovely atmosphere. If you want to party you can but also if you are looking for somewhere quiet where you can wake up to surf you can too! I left Agra to stay somewhere else and came back to Agra and extended my stay. The best place to stay in Arugam Bay with private rooms and dorms too! Rooms are super clean with privacy curtains and a towel provided. If you stay for longer (which I recommend) sheets and towels will be replaced. The rooms are also tucked away so no daylight which makes for the perfect sleeps & naps! We had a family dinner, the options were all vegetarian but tasted amazing!! A really lovely hostel that feels like you’re at home with your family and friends! Was really hard to leave but will definitely be back! Wish I didn’t have to leave!
