- Andrew (3/5): - Poor, didn’t change covers, cups, or anything. Location
- Andrew (5/5): -
- Caroline (8/5): The staff made us feel very welcome, we will return to see the completed work in the bar. - The weather was lovely so we ate our breakfast in the garden. The bar/ tables were still unavailable for sitting. Renovations were being completed in the bar on our arrival so there was a lot of dusk and work men.
There needs to be a few minor mends in room shelves need to be fitted properly and bathroom need to be re painted. Bathroom was very spacious. (Room 6) I would have given a 10 if all work was finished before our arrival. I would recommend The Commercial Inn, nice property, staff and great location.

- Colin (10/5): Great place to stay. Been in many hotels and this is my favourite in the uk - Cracking place live music n. Cornish folk. Lovely rooms with cottage features but modern bathrooms. Really lovely
- Irrum (8/5): Overall value for money and very helpful staff - Bedroom and en-suite Bed was a small double and there was no mirror in the bedroom

- nicholas (5/5): - Bar staff are very welcoming and always helpful. Tash & Joanne are great. Evening meals are not always available.
- Momin (7/5): -
- Helen (9/5): Pleasant stay in a pub - Basic room at a pub. In an industrial town, but central Cornwall so it was convenient for me. Pub did drinks and good value food and music. It suited me, but if you want somewhere quiet, with a view from the window, then you would go elsewhere.
- Zowie (6/5): - Great room. Great value money. Lovely country pub serving food below Noisy guests at night. Noisy from the bar below in the morning
- Mary (7/5): I had a comfortable and well priced stay - Very comfortable bed Some extra plug sockets would be useful
Guest information booklet needs to be updated
- Steven (10/5): - Manager and staff of the inn very welcoming and friendly treated like I'd known them for ages breakfast was great value for money . Will return there my next trip to cornwall
- Petru Daniel (10/5): - Place very clean and recently refurbished everything brand new , very comfy beds and new , and the food is amazing tasting and very affordable
- Alana (8/5): Cosy little stay break!! loved the room :) - Walked into thinking the room would be horrendous but the first impressions of the bar, and the look we got from the locals. But was totally surprised by the room…it was clean decent size comfy bed and fresh and cosy! could’ve done with some free soap! but stayed here 2 nights on the trot which was planned! Our room was right above the band which was a little annoying with the band so loud! But it was all in all nice. Would return in future! No hairdryer and no toiletries— little example ones even for one wash! SOAP bar
- Nicholas (8/5): Very good -
- Florin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steffi (6/5): Pleasant -
- Stuart (9/5): Superb -
- Andrew (10/5): Simply perfect - great location, good price and friendly staff - Exceptionally friendly and caring staff makes any stay perfect As per description it is in a pub ! So expect some noise until closing - but that’s like when someone complains it floods when they buy a house next to a river!
- Anthony (8/5): Very good - Nice quiet comfortable place. Village is quiet the pub is good and a nice cafe just down the road. Easy to get to St Austel and Newquay by bus. One of the rooms had a very low ceiling which wouldn't be suitable for a tall person.
- Malcolm (8/5): Gerat value - My grateful thanks to the staff who did everything possible to accommodate me. The food was excellent and great value. A particular thanks for allowing the early breakfast to enable me to get to work.
- Joshua (10/5): Ancient, very warm family orientated people, felt like home. - The history is just incredible, 500 year old bedroom and antique clock and fireplace in the room too! Being an Australian it was such a fun warm and welcoming experience in the pub downstairs!!! There was quite a strong dog smell in the apartment, but other than that it was one of my favourite stays anywhere ever!
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Eddie (9/5): A very welcoming and enjoyable stay. - The room was ideal for my needs, and the bed was comfortable. The pub downstairs was welcoming and the food for my evening meal was perfect for my needs; it was "pub grub" rather than anything "fancy" but it was good value. Having expected there to be no real ale available at the bar, I was pleased to see one such ale available, which permitted me to have a very enjoyable evening. Although there was no breakfast available here, it was only a five minute walk to a cafe that provided a good Full English. Before I arrived I had been made aware of the limited car parking space available, but on this occasion I was able to obtain a space.
- Julian (8/5): A friendly, warm lodging in charming surroundings after a long tiring day - It was handily located and I thought reasonably priced. I was starting out on a sponsored bike ride from Lands End to John o’Groats, and the staff were very helpful about safe bike storage and letting me back in when I was leaving early and had forgotten something. It’s an attractive place to look at and so was the room. Nothing really!
- Kathryn (1/5): Bad -
- Robert (4/5): Disappointing -
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- April (2/5): Loud which ruined a probably lovely stay! - Well it’s 11:30pm at night and the music is still blaring!!
I did go down and ask them what time it would end was told maybe another 10 mins!! No sorry or anything or a doctor working the next day this is appalling - I did read the review and the last review mentioned how they respected a curfew. I thought working till 11pm meant I’d come back to a quiet place.
How wrong was I!!!
Don’t stay here if you want a goods nights sleep
- Kaz (9/5): 2nd visit in two months. - Location is good. Repeat visit for me and the friend I travelled with as we firt stayed here for a weekend at the beginning of September. Could of done with instructions for the electric heater as the one in my room wasn't a simple 'switch on and you'll get heat.' It had to be programmed which wasn't straight forward.
- Nicholas (10/5): Exceptional - Very friendly staff. Very Welcoming
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Dennis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sally (5/5): Passable - Lovely room; nice view ; good shower and comfortable bed. The music on the pub below on night 1 was very very loud until 12:45am - needed ear plugs but didn’t have any. Night 2 was a live singer - so loud , floor vibrated and couldn t even hear the tv . But finished at 11and was then followed by clouds of shouting outside the pub. A shame really as the accommodation and facilities were lovely but rushed I d been warned about the noise.
- Noel (6/5): Adequate - What we required for a few hours sleep. Parking
- Davies (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (7/5): Recently added rooms in busy village Inn. - Great value village centre Inn, recently added rooms were small but spotlessly clean. No breakfast available when I stayed but I knew that beforehand and rooms are above a popular bar so some noise can be expected.
- Ian (8/5): Does exactly what it says on the Cornish tin! Super clean. Nice hot shower. Great value. -
- Charlie (9/5): Superb -
- Kaz (9/5): Would happily use this accommodation again. - Convenient area because we needed to be near a friend at Bugle, and within easy reach of Mevagissey where we met up more friends. Accommodation is historic Inn (pub) with a bar with guest rooms newly refurbed. Manager was very obliging- his cooked breakfast(pay direct to the Inn) was excellent! Accommodation was comfy and fresh. There wasn't anything to dislike, everything was great! Just have to be aware nearby residents also have to park but there's enough bays for residents and guests, no problem with parking availability.
- Pope (4/5): Disappointing -
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicholas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Omokoro (9/5): Great place to stay - Great location, clean rooms, ensuite bathroom.,TV and pressure on shower was very good, fresh towels Live band kept me awake on Friday night.
- Adam (10/5): Exceptional - Great clean, cosy room over the pub which respects night time curfew. Clean, great staff, recommend.
- David (8/5): Ideal for short stays, recommended - Comfy bed
Clean room with modern bathroom
Ideally situated for access to Central Cornwall
Friendly, helpful hosts
Good food outlets in village (chip shop and kebab shop) plus convenience store Parking was an issue
This wasn't the fault of the Hotel, it's situated in a very small village with narrow streets and limited parking spaces
- Donna (8/5): Not luxurious but perfectly adequate - We didn't have breakfast We were disturbed by other guests leaving early in the morning, might be an idea to put a notice in the rooms to ask guests to leave as quietly as possible. A full length mirror in the rooms would be a pleasant bonus.
- D (8/5): Friendly, comfortable and convenient for me. - A very nice welcome and the room was comfortable. No soap! An oversight no doubt.
- Tracy (9/5): It was a really lovely establishment. - The staff were friendly and welcoming. The rooms were a decent size, both the double room and the single room. The rooms felt clean and smelled clean. Although there was loud music when we stayed on Friday night, it was turned off just before 12 when the pub closed so you knew it was going to be quiet from then onwards as advertised in the pub opening and closing times. The parking could be a little tricky as only so many spaces however when we were struggling to park, Simon, the Manager, came out of the pub to offer advice on where we could park which I thought was really kind of him.
There were some early risers the next morning, who were noisy so I think perhaps signage in the rooms to say if you are leaving before 7.30am/8.00am please be mindful there are other guests who are still sleeping, so please be as quiet as possible. I do appreciate this is beyond control of the Commercial Inn but it would serve as a reminder to all guests.
- Paul (7/5): Nice rooms, nice village and nice people. - Rooms were clean and quite newly decorated. Were quite basic but functional. TV worked well and was modern with Smart functionality. Local amenities were good with a Spar, Cafe and two takeaways within walking distance. I was in room 6. I spent quite some time in the room as I was working whilst I was there. The music didn't bother me from the pub (it was some good choices 😁) but I did get frustrated at times as the smoking shelter was outside my window. No smoke came in to be fair but people generally talked really loud when stood right next to each other 🤣 Not much can be controlled about that though...
- Nicholas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Samantha (10/5): Great place to stay in central Cornwall - Clean and comfortable room with shower en-suite. Staff were lovely. Commercial Inn had a friendly pub and restaurant attached so made grabbing dinner easy and also had the option of breakfast in the morning.
- Alison (3/5): Not best the most cooking system or what ever fans were on half the night kept me awake . Sorry - I had to contact a staff member to get me an extension lead as the only plug was hidden hehind the bed and the lead for the kettle couldn't reach a could any other plug. Crazy!
Personally having a tiny window outside the smoking area isn't nice. And the fans from the pub , cooling system i think, kept me awake then woke me up. I did have 2 spiders, apart from that it was very clean.. it's just not ideal begin in a lift room, i keep banging my head. Put extra plugs in or give an extension lead.. put secondary glazing . Warm people of the low ceiling. I would not have system in that Room if I'd soon it before.. The shower was lovely .
- Nicholas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fawcett (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean, comfortable stay. All facilities available and information freely given. Plenty of parking too. No dislikes
- Anthony (8/5): Very good - Nice comfortable room and friendly local pub. No breakfast but a good cafe just down the road. Nice small village very quiet and on the bus route between St Austel and Newquay. Nowhere in the village for an evening meal so have to do that somewhere bigger. One of the single rooms had a very low sloping ceiling, unsuitable for a tall person.
- Devilan (9/5): A night in st Dennis - We had a breakfast on Saturday morning it wasn't part of the stay but was provided on request.... It comes in three sizes, I opted for the middle one and it was huge... And the cost was very very good, thank you. Car parking is a bit tricky but we did get a suitable solution.
- Ashleigh (9/5): Superb -
- Laura (7/5): Good - Very good value for money and a lovely little clean and comfortable room. The room wasn't very well soundproofed (lino floor) so the music and talking from pub downstairs was very loud, to the extent that it was difficult to hear the tv.
Parking is also very limited as the pub shares parking within a little residential square. The parking was also taken up by patrons of the pub. I did manage to park but only after 8pm at night when a patron left.
- Bowyer (8/5): Very good -
- Vincent (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alan (7/5): Comfortable bed, clean room, good shower (but no shower gel) and Betty Stoggs on draught in the bar. - There wasn't any breakfast (or bar food in the evening) There was no shower gel dispenser in the shower
- Michelle (9/5): Friendly - Clean character
- Alex (9/5): Great, brilliant highly recommended. - The location was perfect, great access to all of Cornwall. Room was extremely clean and had everything you need.
- Tshering (5/5): Fair, wouldn’t stay again. Not for me - Newly done and clean Mattress not comfy and sheets were synthetic
- Phillips (10/5): Exceptional - Start good and friendly and the locals a good place to stay had a good laugh will go again
- Sergejs (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (10/5): Cosy, homely, warm, comfortable and welcoming - Positive, friendly, happy staff for a 2158 check in.
Clean, tidy, new room.
Comfortable to sit and watch tele before falling asleep.
Coffee in the morning with the little packets, toilet, shower and off to work i went. Didnt get to experience the pub or local atmosphere, but hopeful to visit very soon. Nothing. Genuinely a comfortable stay for my type of trip.
