Guest Reviews
- Piera (10/5): It’s a lovely quiet stay - Lovely location, peaceful, beautiful little barn The log fire was lovely and so was the bath
- Kirk (10/5): -
- L (9/5): Wonderful Cosy Cottage - The cottage was very pretty. Clean and comfortable with a lovely, deep, roll top bath (excellent relaxation after hiking)! The little kitchenette was well equipped. It was warm and had a comfy sofa in the sitting room area. We didn't get a chance to use the wood burning stove as it didn't get cold enough but I did like the system of a 'donation tin' towards the cost of wood if used. Not much really. Salt and pepper would have been handy in the kitchen and may be some milk and sugar for tea/coffee on arrival. Other than that it was lovely.
- Amanda (10/5): - It was everything we needed for a new year's eve get away.Cosy. Comfy. Peaceful. It was just beautiful. We wanted a log fire and it was just wonderful. Had a rough year and our dog is a nervous wreck with fireworks so the stillness in the air was perfect. Would recommend to everyone. Will come back in the summer as the welcome book had good information for walks and local attractions to explore. The cottage has everything you need . Plenty of nice fluffy towels to for the lovely bath tub and the bed was comfy too.. Nice little garden too for dogs .
- Pearce (8/5): Winter solstice - Very cosy winter solstice stay with the log burner and lovely bath. Great little walk up the hill to the BBQ area with our dog. Perfect remote getaway. Lovely farm shop at Lydford too.
- Kirk (10/5): -
- Mark (10/5): Lovely and quiet - Every thing Nothing
- Jenny-Lee (10/5): Great for relaxing or staying for countryside walks - Once again, outstanding. We've been before and needed a few days of relaxation so we couldn't think of a better place. Out in the countryside, on a farm and listening to the horses. The bath is big enough for two to share and the bed is extremely comfortable, with goose feather pillows and duvet. The fire was on the go all the time and we managed to play a few board games, along with relaxing in front of the TV in the evening on a comfortable leather sofa. Loudness of the stairs as I'm up and down alot during the night. But this cannot be helped. It's still a very beautiful and worthwhile place to stay.
- Anthony (6/5): Disappointed after last visit - Location quiet the bed so comfortable Lack of firelighters to light the log burner,no heating in the bathroom or bedroom on a very cold November evening a heated towel rack in the bathroom didn't work
- Daniel (10/5): -

- David (8/5): good value and convenient for what we needed - we liked the cottage itself, kitchen had all we needed, comfy good sized bed, with very warm quilt, immediate location was nice, lovely bath with hand shower although we hadnt registered there was a proper shower (our bad). lovely views.
Easy to find considering it was fairly remote. nice walk for the dog literally on the doorstep there was a small garden behind the property that wasnt fenced but could easily have been, no great drama for 1 night but had we stayed longer this would have been an issue with a dog. As above we hadnt realized no full shower but that was us.
A long way to get any sort of takeaway food, and none of the delivery services appeared to serve the postcode
- Cal (10/5): The house was immaculate, well-equipped and in a great location. 10/10! - Everything!
- Jon (9/5): Quaint property - Fantastic property, everything needed was on hand N/A
- Patrick (8/5): -
- Nigel (10/5): -
- Tony (9/5): Gorgeous haven in the countryside - This is a lovely cottage in a beautiful, quiet spot in rural Devon. Has everything you need for a lovely weekend away.
- Mike (10/5): - Peaceful, remote location, amazing views, comfy bed, the woodburner was fantastic for that real farm cottage feeling
- James (9/5): - Great cottage that's very pieceful, great bath tub, tv, sofa and strong use of water running.e.g. shower and tap. Also 15 minutes drive away there is a good pub that's not too expensive and a village shop. There are some nice walks and it's about 40 minutes drive to a beach in bude which is also fantastic if that's your thing. As it's so remote I think things like ketchup up, mayonnaise, orher sauces, more decaf coffee and butter should be provided or if not it should be clear to bring all of your own condiments. As it's so remote and the nearest shop isn't open too late I think this is really important. If this was all there I would have given it a 10 out of 10 as the cottage itself is fantastic.

- karen (8/5): - Beautiful location very peaceful
- John (5/5): Okay for a night - Quiet location The duvet was for a very cold winters night not for summer temperatures so we didnt get a good nights sleet
Why is the cottage name on a sign : other properties next door are
- Frances (9/5): Superb -
- Stasiewicz (10/5): Exceptional - Big bath, where I could relax after a long day walk.

- Robyn (9/5): A lovely break from reality. A well needed mini ‘holiday’! Just wish we booked for more than 2 nights! - Absolutely lovely hidden gem! Was a very last minute break away, being in the area to pick up our other car having work done locally. Tucked away through some daunting narrow country lanes, but very easy to find cottage once you’ve found/got to the turning. Was very clean, tidy and presentable upon arrival. Supermarkets a short drive away in okehampton and Roadford lakes too which is perfect for dog walks. It was everything we needed and more for just a couple nights away. Particularly love that it’s dog friendly so we could bring our furry friend! A lovely break from reality in the peace and quiet of the Devonshire country side. Definitely added to our list of places to return! Would have been lovely if the garden was secure to let our dog off lead, but apart from that it was perfect for us!
- David (9/5): Somewhere we will no doubt return to. - It’s location and surrounding walks with views across to Dartmoor are great. We had our 6 month old puppy with us and she really enjoyed being with us. The bed is very comfortable and we had all we needed in the kitchen etc. The TV and WiFi made it very easy to feel at home. My only dislike was the bath. Absolutely a personal preference and for a lot of guests it will be a welcome luxury. Plenty of hot water.
- Adrianna (10/5): Fabulous and very very relaxing! - We were looking for something as remote as it gets so that we can relax, I must say this is one of our favourite stays!! We had such a lovely time.
The fact that we were able to take our dog with us too, it was rather exceptional and great value for money! Welcome chocolates were very kind, lovely log burner and the comfiest bed ever!
Bath is great - it’d fit two people easily! The heating warmed up the place quickly.
The closest shop is about 20-25mins drive so you just need to ensure you pack/take whatever you need but that’s pretty obvious.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- Amy (10/5): Relaxing, warm and cosy great for a little getaway. - Very homely, welcoming just right for the two of us. Could have done with a blind on the skylight window in the bedroom.
- Liz (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely beautiful stop over. Dogs welcome, some lovely luxurious touches, shame we were only staying 1 night. A blind on the bedroom velux to block out early morning light would be the only improvement.
- Hester (10/5): Amazing peaceful stay close to some amazing Dartmoor walks. Would definately book again! - The location is great and it is very peaceful and quiet. Everything that is needed for your stay ad very clean.
- Jenny-lee (10/5): 5* self-catering couples retreat - It's a beautiful, cosy little place in the middle of nowhere. A short trip into Oakhamptom and we managed to get all the supplies we needed from the supermarket. The bath was amazing and relaxing for us both. The fire warmed up the entire cottage and the bed was so comfortable we both got a decent night's sleep.
We definitely would be going again.
Thank you Nothing. There was not a single bit we did not like and we 100% would recommend for a couples retreat.
- Helen (10/5): Hidden Devon gem 😊 - Layout of cottage was exquisite.
Bed comfy.
Lovely bath tub.
Easy to use wood burner stove.
Very dog friendly-lovely to provide dog bowl & blankets.
Amazing Dartmoor views-we will be returning! 😊 The bedroom roof window would benefit from a blackout blind and the front door a fitted curtain (especially in the colder months)
- Mattie (10/5): The Best Place I’ve Ever Stayed - Beautiful place. Loved having the cottage to myself. The bath was a relaxing addition as well as the fireplace and just all round cottage vibes. Nothing. It was absolutely perfect.
- Kirsty (10/5): Exceptional - The location was absolutely stunning and the property was easy to find.
The place was warm and clean on our arrival and we were able to make ourselves completely at home. The layout was perfect for us, with the Woodburner providing a warm and cosy atmosphere.
We would love to return someday! Nothing to dislike at all
- Karen (9/5): Superb - Everything thought of Cold when arrived but soon warmed up with fabulous wood burner
- Tony (10/5): Perfect night away to relax - Perfect location, very cosy and quaint .
Bed was super comfy too
- Rebekah (10/5): Amazing NYE Stay - Absolutely stunning cottage, a one night stay for NYE, so relaxing, couldn't have asked for more. The fire was lovely, the bath was amazing, the bed and bedding was so comfortable. Brilliant stay I will be back highly recommended for a quiet relaxing break. Nothing all fabulous.
- Daphneaw (9/5): Fabulous little gem! - Great location - rural and very quiet. Tawny Owls at night, bird chorus in the morning. Lovely wood burning stove and bathtub. We couldn't locate the washing up liquid.
- Quinton (10/5): Exceptional - Very cozy and well presented cottage
- Trish (10/5): A great location and had everything you needed. - Comfortable and clean Nothing.
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ginette (10/5): Perfect - Booking.com Nothing to dislike
- Willerton (6/5): Right out the middle of nowhere. No shop .very small kichen - The bed was so comfortable.it wasn't enclosed garden though which was tricky with dogs
A little pit of 4 tea bags about 3 sachets of milk.the microwave we couldn't work out
.the cupboard for cleaning utensils should have a sign please mind your head
As very low must of hit my head at least four times.no sponge for washing up.2 small tea towels.stairs wooden very slippery for us and dogs.
- Gila (9/5): Lovely place to take time out from phones people work and a busy life - Peaceful and private A shower would be a bonus ! Maybe in the cupboard upstairs bedroom ?
- Ang (8/5): Very good -
- Roger (10/5): The most comfortable bed ever! - Location was amazing our little dog loved it there.
- Andy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alice (8/5): A cute, snug getaway in beautiful surroundings. - The cottage was very compact and cosy, so it soon warmed right up when we lit the fire. We were visiting during typical English springtime weather - rather cold, wet and windy! But we were nice and snug in the cottage and loved sinking into the huge double bath after a day rambling over the beautiful moors. The property was difficult for us to find - the postcode only got us roughly close and with no wayfinding we had to drive up and down the lane a bit to work out where it was. This was only a small niggle though and didn't take too long (it's just a bit stressful when you've been driving for several hours and it's starting to get dark!)
- Maddie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Aurea (7/5): Good - Lovely rural location which was quiet and peaceful. Good instructions provided in relation to how to find the property. Blinds in the bedroom didn't stop light getting in and the velux window had no blind. No washing up sponge was provided so we had to go looking for a cloth in the cleaning cupboard to be able to wash up.
- David (10/5): Amazing and just what we needed, will be back - So quaint and in the middle of knowhere, just ticked a lot of boxes after a hectic day on the moor To be honest there wasn’t anything at all, the space has been created to fit and works well
- Paula (7/5): Gorgeous location, small and quaint, ideal for a short stay - The bed was outstandingly comfortable
Beautiful location if you like remote as we do
Spotlessly clean Not enough seating in the living room
- John (7/5): We short but pleasant stop over and our dog, Archie, enjoyed the local walks. - Location was great for walking and wildlife. The only complaint if even a complaint was the toilet was downstairs but I could see the design restraints.
- Deborah (10/5): Exceptional - Nice quiet location, well equipped cottage, very clean , very comfortable , perfect for a short stay.
- Sam (6/5): Really disappointed. So much so that we left 4 days early! - The owner and family were responsive to messages during our stay. There were several things that could have made our stay better.
In the bathroom there is no surface at all to put your stuff. We ended up balancing everything around the sink. A shelf beside bath and one by sink would be an easy fix.
Loo is downstairs. The staircase is wooden and creaks badly so anyone else in the property would be woken up.
There was no seating in the garden. 2 metal seats right outside the cottage in the shade weren’t very good for a 24c day!
The garden could have been completely fenced to make it secure for dogs. It’s difficult to relax when you’re staying on a horse yard. The grass was very long and the greenhouse was filled with clutter.
There was no freezer compartment in the fridge. This would have been really useful.
Dog blankets in the cupboard need removing. We have a dog and even we found the smell in the cupboard over powering.
Not the fault of the owner at all but the location was quite remote and the access to a main road was down miles of high hedged, narrow, winding lanes. This may be other peoples idea of heaven but definitely wasn’t ours.
- Garry (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely beautiful cottage in an idyllic setting couldn't ask for more brilliant Nothing it was perfect
- Annette (9/5): I had a lovely stay! - Fantastic little cottage. My only issue was that it only had a bath and no shower. This is a personal issue as I struggle to get in and out of a bath but I made it work. Having said that the bathtub itself was lovely and big.
- Celsimon (10/5): Lovely weekend away. - Lovely little property, perfect for 2 people. We would love to come back if you will have us? Perhaps a small freezer could be good .
- Mark (9/5): Lovely peaceful location and just right for some r&r - Very nice location, unbelievably clean and a great location Nothing
- Adrian (10/5): Loved this cottage . - Everything perfect . Warm. Clean . Very comfortable. Private parking. Liked everything .
- Peter (9/5): Superb - The small cottage was really nice, it had nice equipment inside and was very cosy, the only problem was with TV reception wasn't good. TV reception not good.
- Anthony (9/5): Stunning cottage - Stunning cottage in an excellent location every thing you needed was provided Nothing every thing was perfect and so clean and tidy
- Daphneaw (10/5): Marvellous gem in the countryside. - Quiet, rural setting in a farm, away from the everyday. Close to Roadford Lake and Dartmoor.
The cottage was comfy enough for two people. Loved a good soak in the bath tub. The wood burning stove was a real treat on a chilly January's day. A bigger frying pan
- Quinton (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gary (8/5): Very good -
- Mark (10/5): Really good. Will definitely stay again. - A lovely cottage. Really quiet and peaceful. Very comfortable and clean. I booked instead of staying in a Premier Inn whilst working in the area and I'm very glad I did. I will definitely stay here again next time I am in the area. During my stay it was -4 outside. I was cold with just the wood burner, especially at night once it had died down. The owner kindly offered me an oil radiator but the message didn't come through until the next day. However, I put this down to the Booking.com messaging system and not to the owner of the cottage.
- Miranda (8/5): Perfect bolt hole for my work trip, would def stay again. - Really beautiful spot, lovely and quiet Older property and felt a little cold. But did have log burner/heating and plenty of blankets.
- Lake (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gavin (8/5): Very good -
- Nick (8/5): Peaceful & relaxing location in a cute little cottage. - Lovely comfortable bed. Bath was good because tap was in the middle.Nice quiet location. The host provided more wood for our 2nd night which was good. The sky light in the bedroom didn't have a blind so the light was a little disturbing. If you didn't have log burner light it could be a little chill upstairs.
- James (10/5): Wonderfully relaxing retreat, with a super friendly and accessible host. - Location is remote, but we wanted away from the everyday hustle so this was absolutely perfect.
The log fire was an absolute dream, and the host was kind enough to provide extra wood when we were concerned we’d run out - I miss the quiet outside and the crackle of the fire already!
Bath is incredible, beds and sofa are comfy, easy and good quality WiFi and cooking equipment provided is more than sufficient compared to some places like this.
- Karin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrea (10/5): Cottage in rural Devon - It was ideal. I was working in Hatherleigh, an easy 15 min drive. I didn't have time to go walking but it was very therapeutic to see all the horses in their livery stables. This would be ideal for a couple or friends with horses, with direct bridleways onto Dartmoor. Nothing. I plan to return for a leisure stay!
- Val (10/5): We needed a relaxing evening to reboot and Jamie’s house ticked every box.It was secluded but close enough to drive to p - Beautifully laid out house.Tucked away location.
Could not have asked for a more relaxed and cosy stay. The bath is amazing and such a treat. Nothing at all
- Gail (8/5): Very good -
- Zak (9/5): Superb -
- Carl (10/5): Exceptional - Cottage was lovely AND clean, excellent surroundings.
Lovely bathroom, very comfy bed and very pleasant Owners, nothing to much trouble. Look forward to visiting again. Nothing to dislike really but would consider adding airfryer to kitchen but just personal choice.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely Cottage. Beautiful location. Excellent facilities. The most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Brilliant! Leaving.....
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Hitchcock (8/5): Very good -
- Roy (10/5): Exceptional - Super cute and very quiet Not staying longer :)
- Lelaina (9/5): Very cosy, peaceful, welcoming and friendly atmosphere. - Spotless, cosy, very detailed and informative welcome/instruction booklet! Had lots of little extras if we needed it like blankets, dog bowl and even teas and coffees!
We had a delightful stay and would love to return. Knives were very blunt so harder than usual to prep our meal.
Loved the welcome cider and tea cake! But a shame there were only one of each when there were two of us staying.
Had to fight with the blinds go get them to stay up. Even knocked one set down.
- Simon (9/5): Superb -
- Edd (7/5): A brilliant relaxing holiday - If you want peace and quiet this is the place to be, a beautiful well equipped and comfortable cottage. We had a brilliant weekend away
going home feeling chilled and relaxed. Nothing that impacted our holiday, just be aware the cottage is in the middle of nowhere driving down small country lanes for miles.
