Guest Reviews
- Julie (2/5): From start to finish it was disgusting I will never go back there in fact I have deleted booking .co - Location too far from town Everything there was no cups coffee tea milk the room wasn't cleaned we had to wait an hour for a cleaner to come and make the bed and still didn't leave us cups just a kettle
- Aunty Sarah (2/5): Greeted with just a light smile the lady just said room 2 you pay now . Said no we already paid which DIDNT believe us t - Location for where we needed to be that’s it Location
- alyson (8/5): 2 Night Stay 26th July 2025 - Location and friendly staff
Comfortable bed
Nice hot shower Dated room decor
Curtains very thin, would benefit from blackout or darker lining as room was very light early morning.
No hand soap or dispenser on sink only 3 mini shampoos instead?
3 towels . Only one of these was bath size. Odd colours .. advice would be to stick to one colour
Sliding door to shower room needs replacing/updating
The 2 bins hadn't been emptied from previous occupants and contained empty lager cans and their rubbish. They weren't emptied during our 2 night stay either.
We used the cups for coffee, these weren't replaced, and we had to request clean cups.
We were also billed directly from the host after paying earlier in the month on booking.com. we were told it was a booking .com computer error.
My partner is a builder and he felt it resembled a contractors B&B at a lesser rating.
I feel you need to know this for future guests who may unknowingly book this hotel. I tend to disregard bad reviews and try to go with an open mind. Unfortunately this time I should have paid more attention to the poor reviews made very recently.
Not value for money sadly.
- Robinson (8/5): Good location for open-air theatre - Off street parking, brilliant location, very comfy bed, very clean and friendly owner. No bin in room
- Rodham (6/5): - We liked the place it was situated. Bed was comfortable Key code to get in didn't work so given 2 keys to get in.one bring for outer door.we arrived hone by taxi after visiting our daughter at 11.30 but couldn't get outer key to work so rang the doorbell.when the man came to answer door he said "you are late". Next morning I realised there were no towels or milk for coffee. I messaged the number I had but got no answer.on.leaving a man asked if we'd enjoyed our stay. When I mentioned the towels he said we should have told him..he did take note of the number I'd sent message to as this was only number I had.

- nicola (8/5): Clean comfortable and friendly - Location was great for where we wanted to be We were satisfied with our stay
- Diana (1/5): Bad -
- Lorraine_orton (8/5): Great stay, thank you - Friendly welcome , great location for the outdoor theatre and easy walk into town . Tea making facilities in room , powerful shower , parking available. Great communication with owner. The concertina door separating the toilet and shower.
- Jon (1/5): Horrendous. - Nothing Room not clean. I have pictures. Illegal lighting in the shower - dangerous!!
No keys. Owner had lost them. Unable to access at night. Unable to secure our property in the room as unable to lock. Owner had to break into our room at 12.30am as lock defective. No kettle etc in the room. Toilet dirty. Faulty window catches. Carpet soiled and not hoovered. Worse hotel I’ve ever been in. Refund required!
- Ronald (1/5): Awful - Had to clean and make up our own room.
- Yasmin (2/5): Very poor - Shower was decent enough, can, t say anything good about anything else, very poor value 4 money Poor value for money, was, nt clean, stuff everywhere, owner did, nt seem to know what was going on, & kept blaming it on the cleaners, which we never saw all weekend
- Sharon (3/5): Accomodation changed last minute-lied to by the owners. Avoid. - We never got to stay at the property that we booked. It would’ve been a fantastic location but as the booking was changed by the host a few hours before check in, it is impossible to say. The host rang only a few hours before we were due to check in to say that the room that I had booked MONTHS previously was not available due to a problem with the bathroom. He said there was no alternative room on site but offered us alternative accommodation. However this was not in such a good location, and not close to the OAT or the place where I had booked meals. It was too late to find alternative accommodation in the area ourselves, so I felt I had to accept.
He also said that the place we had booked was full. When I queried the change with regards to parking arrangements, said that the original Columbus rooms was so full we wouldn’t have been able to park anyway. This turned out to be a LIE as we passed the Columbus rooms that evening and the car park was almost empty and there was a vacancies sign on the door.
I was not offered a reduction, rather he patronisingly suggested he was doing me a favour by offering the alternative at the same price. The alternative was a 20 minute walk away in a small, reasonable but slightly shabby flat. It was ok, it was clean and the owner was welcoming and helpful but nevertheless not worth £100 a night.
Having booked months in advance and made all arrangements for the exact location, I was not happy. Photos attached are of the supposedly full accommodation and car park. I feel annoyed and let down.
- Stephen (1/5): Terrible would never book with them again - Nothing didn't get to stay The fact they changed us from the Columbus to another property the day before our travel which completly ruined our stay. We left a day early because my wife has sever arthritis in both knees and have to walk up to the 3rd floor left her in alot of pain so we had to leave a day earlier than planned
- Andy (5/5): A grubby experience - It's position near Pesholme park is very handy
There is a pub/snack bar opposite selling beer, wine & fast food, a shop is next door to the snack bar
Microwave & kettle were useful
The property is easy to locate
I suppose you get what you pay for & it was relatively inexpensive for the area The sheets, quilt cover, and pillowcases were stained badly & in need of a long boil wash
There was a bath & no shower, which was a problem. for my wife
There wasn't a chair of any kind in the room so only the bed to sit on
There was only one tea bag for 3 days
The date on the milk sachets had expired
The carpets in the hotel need cleaning & the hotel overall has a grubby feel to it
Parking on site is very limited & would imagine it being a problem if all rooms were occupied
Our room was extremely small & would be a problem for someone with generous proportions
We were on the top floor with no lift access which would be problematic for someone with walking or breathing difficulties
- Angela (9/5): Enjoyable stay will be back. - Good location to explore Scarborough Front of apartment could have been tidier, although painter was tidying vestibule
- Stepanie (2/5): Very poor -
- Vic (7/5): Good -
- David (9/5): Nice friendly owners excellent price for the room - Nice friendly owners
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Steph (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kevan (5/5): Passable - Ideal for bus route and town centre. On site parking was the reason for choosing. Unable to use bath or shower no anti slip mat provided despite asking & explanation of my severe arthritis and being scared of slipping. No teaspoons to make drinks.
- Smith (7/5): Extremely good value for money - Situated right next to peasholm park, beautiful park definitely recommend having a walk around Window in room didn't open very warm room, never seen any staff to fill our gea and coffee up , but apart from these little minor things everything was lovely and very peaceful
- Steve (8/5): Very good - Host
- Louise (1/5): Exceptionally disappointing. Issues were ignored. Was asked not to post a negative review as issues would be ‘compensate - Location Did not get what I paid for. When raised I was told that images were for reference only. However when facilities such as ‘shower’ and ‘sofa’ are listed on the room description you expect to get it. Plug by the bed did not work. Towel rail in the bathroom did not work so the bathroom was freezing. The room was cold. Toiletries consisted of x4 bottles of shampoo - raised with host and ignored. Ran out of toilet paper - raised with host and ignored. And, carpet in the bathroom. Really not hygienic….
- Vicky (9/5): All round happy for us 🥰 - Absolutely lovely so accommodating good lovely 🥰 stay I loved the property accommodating fab
- Batty (7/5): Good -
- Nattie11 (9/5): Great place to stay. Will book again - Great value for money. Clean and comfy. Good location on the North side of Scarborough very close to Peasholme Park and North bay but still easy walking distance to the town and South bay That we didn't stay a bit longer!
- Nattie11 (9/5): Superb - The location is great and it has everything you want from a budget stay There was nothing to complain about
- Tracy (6/5): Ok but not the greatest - Friendly owner Budget room, but needed maintenance, window handle loose, cold tap leaked when turned on, toilet needed multiple flushes to clear, wall paper coming loose.
Room was not cleaned over 4 day stay, so no clean cups or no rubbish collected . It should state if this was going to happen and provide facilities to put out own rubbish.
Parking could be an issue if busy, bays are for small cars, road is in a disc zone.
Heating was on for approx an hour in morning and then an hour in the evening, ok if not too cold, but one day evening was very cold.
- Colin (10/5): Great👍👍 - Easy to find and park, place clean and tidy, staff friendly and polite will book again👍 Nothing
- Yvonne (10/5): Exceptional - It was very clean and comfortable there was cafe's pubs peasholme park and the beach was close by
- Kelly (7/5): Cheap and cheerful. Great location. - Convenience, location, car parking. Comfortable bed and a bath. Handy to have the fridge and microwave. Good arrangements for check-in. Just minor things to note, room was a bit dusty. For example the the kettle had dust on the lid. Could have done with more milk sachets for two people, two nights. Could do with a mirror near a plug socket (perhaps near the desk). Could do with a new hook on the bathroom door. Nowhere to hang anything in the bathroom. Also could do with a mat on the floor to step out of the bath as the floor is carpeted. The bed lights didn't work and the bathroom mirror light didn't work.
Just minor improvements, that would make it better. However it wouldn't stop me returning.
- Natasha (7/5): Good -
- Helen (9/5): Superb -
- Pat (10/5): Wonderful will definitely be booking again on our next trip to Scarborough. - The property was easy to find either parking facilities. You .pulled up outside and we were greeted with a lovely entrance dripping with beautiful flowers in hanging baskets. The outside area was clean and tidy. The room was clean and spacious, with a separate bathroom. The location was exceptionally quiet considering it was one of the main routes to the North Bay beach. Across the road were cafes and restaurants as well as a fish and chip shop a small convenience store. The staff were warm and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Nothing
- Toney (6/5): Pleasant - Issues with room not clean or ready, couldn’t get in to key box call owners told me it would take them a hour to get as they where out and no parking on site as car as cars parked all over the place not very organised I’m not very helpful As above
- Paul (7/5): Good -
- Janet (8/5): Visit to Whitby Regatta. - Free parking. Easy instructions for check in. & out. The hosts Paul & Lisa were so helpful and friendly with local knowledge. The Disc parking around town was really good to use saved us paying to park. Spent a day in Whitby using Park & Ride enjoyed very much. Nice break away. Thanks again Paul for your great hospitality. Will definitely book here again in the future. Would have liked better Wi-Fi in bedroom. Husband had to go downstairs to lobby to use the Wi-Fi. Bathroom was a little snug.
- Karen (5/5): Columbus - The host location bed Small to say we were mislead to believe we were getting a full private apartment but got a small room. Said superior but that ot wasn't
- Jenny (1/5): Bad -
- Andy (5/5): Very basic for the price - Booked a superior apartment no shower or fridge had to change rooms the following day room was pretty dated the bedding was clean but the room was over priced
- Smith (9/5): Superb - Paul was very amenable and even offered to upgrade our room. Stairs a bit of an issue due to mobility problems, put on first floor .
- Paul (6/5): The room was clean and it was good value for money compared to many other places we looked at. - NA Nothing comes to mind
- Peter (7/5): Last minute getaway - Room has basically everything you need including a microwave, tea, coffee, towels, hairdryer, fan, long mirror and is ensuite.
It's like a bedsit which was great for the price. Would definitely go back to a bigger room. There is also parking but can park on the street with a permit from the host or the one stop shop across the road. Towels were beautiful. The owner was a nice gentleman. Bed seemed to narrow for us, we're used to a 4ft6 or king size. But the bed suited the room which was room 9.
- Tanisha (1/5): AVOID HERE GO TO PARK VIEW GUEST HOUSE INSTEAD - The only good thing about this hotel was the location. It was close to the beach and shops. There was a few things we didn't like about our stay.
We paid £153 for the 2 nights. When we arrived we couldn't access the property. We found a sign with a contact number on to contact the owner for access. When we phone the owner he gave us a code to open the front door of the property but we then had to have another code to gain access to our room key. This was an unnecessary process. It would have been a lot easier if we was greeted by the owner and was able to speak to him face to face about the property and gaining access. We also heard the doorbell go off quite a lot whilst we was there. This was guest trying to gain access to the property but they also had to go through the long process like we had to. Another thing we didn't like was the rooms were very out dated. The bathroom had carpet in and the bed was very uncomfortable the mattress was solid. There was a bedside table in the room which also had coffee stains on from previous guests. Overall I wouldn't recommend the stay. If you want to book anywhere I'd suggest Park View Guest House which is just around the corner. It is a completely different experience and definitely worth your time and money.
- Paul (9/5): A comfortable base for relaxing and enjoying the attractions of Scarborough - Location was excellent and the property owner was friendly, hospitable and efficient Nothing
- John (10/5): Perfecto - Clean, easy no messing around. Very organised and staff super friendly and helpful. Off road parking too Clean. Great location
- Alan (8/5): Very good - Near cricket ground convenience Old kettle in room with short lead
- Leanne (9/5): Superb - The location is excellent for peasholm and north bay beach , it was spotless clean , the staff was very friendly and informative Apart from it being a little dated there was nothing to complain about
- James (8/5): Friendly and helpufull owners in a good location. - Highlight was the helpfulness of Jon and Paul, the owners.
The location was very good.
A working, clean, microwave in the room as well as the usual kettle etc was very handy. Bathroom was clean and spacy.
Previous reviews had me concerned about the potential lack of cleanliness but these fears were totally unfounded. Everything was cleaned to a high standard. My only grumble would be that the extra single bed in the room made it feel rather cramped.
- Victoria (2/5): Despite an okay location and one ffiendly staff member, the hotel was outdated, dirty, and lacked basic amenities, makin - Location - 18 mins from Aldi/ Spoons. Around 18 mins to north beach.
The man who was in and out was friendly and helpful. He personally would get a 10/10 but I can not say the same for the actual hotel. Property is very outdated in general. As you walk into the property there is a bit of a gross smell. The standard room was small, not many facilities. Had an outdated kettle but no mugs or coffee provided. Bathroom was carpeted? No toilet roll so had to buy our own. Half used body wash left. Carpet was not at all clean. Needing had some stains on it. Car park is small and gets blocked off regularly so hard to get in. When we first arrived, the door wouldn’t lock. Thankfully had this fixed. Plug socket by the bed was not working either. Key box was just annoying. Key box to get into the hotel every time you left. There was no one there to greet us but more there wasn’t anyone there to actually help with anything when we first arrived. Had to ring up for our issues and the owner was on the other side of scarbrough and didn’t make a single effort to come over despite this being a small hotel.
- Philip (9/5): Superb -
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional - It was all lovely and clean Nothing
- Iain (6/5): Pleasant - Location, parking small room, very small toilet/shower area,tv in awkward location to be able to watch, not enough coffee or milk for our 2 night stay and told by owner to go to shop and buy some more when we asked for them.Room no1
