- Steven (10/5): -
- William (10/5): -
- Stephen (9/5): Well presented with great staff - Pleasant staff with warm welcome. Room clean and well presented, comfy bed. No breakfast which I knew before booking, and bar closed on Mon-Wed. I booked this hotel because of the good ratings. Staff did recommend alternative which was good.
- Barry (8/5): - Staff welcome. A nice sized room.. only stayed one-night but kitchen closed do no food avzil5 The bar and kitchen closed sono food available.
Not keen on the on street parking.
- Iakn (9/5): -
- Robert (8/5): - nice room, extremely clean, nice people the bar is closed monday, tuesday and wednesday! wish i had known before i booked!
- Sean (10/5): Very pleasant - Easy to find comfy room staff very helpful would stay again if we were this way again (travelling to Ireland)
- Edward (6/5): An OK stopover. - Very helpful contact person.
Central location.
Space and ventilation. A camera in the hall of the twin room, why?
Bathroom window did not open.
- Jannine (7/5): Well appointed base to explore the Machars - Really centrally located to explore Wigtown and other sites of Dumfries and Galloway, the Blackhorse Hotel is a great place to base yourself at if you're looking for affordable accommodation which delivers a warm welcome. While not a problem as on road parking is easy to find (and there are no parking restrictions), it's worth noting there is no on site parking. The kitchen and pub aren't open for much of the week (possibly this changes in the summer?!) there are still plenty of places to get food though nearby.
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Karen (7/5): Good -
- Jason (8/5): Friendly, well located and very good value - Friendly, accessible room was very hot (unusual spell of warm weather in Scotland), but with only the top small window opening it was difficult to cool down at night.
No breakfast but cafe open opposite from early so no major problem
- Rosemary (8/5): We enjoyed our stay a lot mainly due to the welcoming and helpful manager. - The room has a big television which after a long cycle ride was welcome. The bed was comfortable and the outside area was great to sit in. It was handy for the town and our cycle route. The manager was very helpful. My husband enjoyed the pool table The room was slightly small. Breakfast was not offered.
- Julie (9/5): Superb -
- Wendy (8/5): Very good - Good location, lots of parking on the road. Bed was super comfortable. The host, Derek, was accommodating and pleasant. A few treats in the room to welcome you. The room was very small, albeit a comfortable bed. You could only get into the bed from one side so the other person had to climb over you. The shower had lots of hot water but it was super small.
- Eilidh (8/5): Perfect for my stay. Was looking for somewhere quiet, central and comfortable - Location was central, quiet room and nice comfy bed
- Stewart (10/5): Great place to stay. - Comfortable room at a good price Nothing
- Rochelle (9/5): Superb - All good Wifi
- M (10/5): Amazing and Cosy - The staff were really friendly and helpful. My room was tidied each time I came home from my placement shift and the bath room had new towels and foot mats provided which meant I could enjoy a shower after my long day. The distance from shops and my place of work was less than 5 mins. The security made me feel at ease. It also wasn’t loud or anything at the weekends which I found unexpected hut was a nice and cosy environment. I couldn’t work the WiFi, but that isn’t on the hotel at all I think it was the service.
- Bruce (9/5): Superb - Very nice proprietors. The staff in the bar was very accommodating and kind.
- Rita (8/5): Great Place to stay when visiting Dumfries and Galloway - The pub does delicious pizzas in the evening, which was very welcome after a long trek from Oxfordshire to Dumfries and Galloway. The team at the Blackhorse were friendly and welcoming and the room and facilities were very comfortable. We've stayed there several times before, and I'm sure that we'll be back again in the future. The hotel doesn't do breakfasts, but there are a few cafes nearby that do, so it wasn't a problem.
- Julie (8/5): Very good -
- Jasmine (7/5): Good - Very clean and comfortable room. Very nicely decorated with a very stylish bathroom area with new bath and shower. Confusion about internet access (it was not as stated). There was no where to place the kettle other than on the floor. The size of the toilet seat didn't match the size of the toilet
- Ruth (10/5): Honeymoon suite - The bedroom and bathroom are outstanding. Secure bicycle storage inside. Advice given on where to eat.
- Bettany (10/5): Perfect for my work trip - Friendly staff , lovely rooms, well equipped Only thing I'd have liked was food available in the evening, but this was explained as it was off season and alternatives explained
- Steven (8/5): Very good -
- Julie (8/5): Very good - Beautiful decor. Comfortable room. No option for breakfast.
- Michelle (7/5): I think more to do with the time of year Not much in facilities for food or drink but we were pre warned of this before - Ample enough for less than 24 hours Very late check in and very early check out
Mattress was very soft and we both ended up in the middle of the bed as it had sunk in.
- Damien (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Ashley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Murdoch (9/5): Superb - Room only. Was given a fob for the front door and a key to my room. Shown to my room then could come and go as I pleased. No issues. Quiet and comfortable rooms.Comfortable
- Mrscarlyb (9/5): Lovely comfortable rooms, relaxing atmosphere and a friendly welcome - The rooms were very cosy and the beds were so comfortable A breakfast option would have been nice but this wouldnt stop us from returning
- Alison (8/5): Lovely Hotel - Going Back Soon! - Lovely room with gorgeous decor. It was fresh and clean. The owner was friendly and helpful, made me a very delicious pizza. Bed was nice and comfy. It was quiet and I had a good sleep. Room was cold, the radiator was only warm on the bottom half. It was freezing outside, so it was colder than normal. It did heat up eventually and was fine during the night.
- Ray (5/5): Passable -
- Rebecca (10/5): Really lovely stay - Lovely location, bedroom was a good size, shower was really nice, gentleman who welcomed us was lovely man
- Shona (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steven (9/5): Superb -
- David (7/5): Served it's purpose - Wasn't any breakfast available? No breakfast!!
- Reuben (9/5): Pleasantly Surprising Gem. - Aesthetically lovely. Good quality throughout. Beautiful bathroom. Comfy bed. Plenty of pillows etc!
Quiet for a pub and main road. Elec shower always disappoints.
WiFi was 200kbs and no 4g on my phone (ee network).
- Anton (6/5): Pleasant -
- Dawn (8/5): Very good -
- Stephen (8/5): Great stay, nice clean room, felt looked after! -
- Jordaan (7/5): The room was comfortable enough but the hotel itself has nothing to offer visitors. - Room itself was well fitted out and comfortable. No meal facilities on-site. We had to go to another hotel down the road for a meal. We had to park in the street outside the hotel. The town itself was very unattractive. We used it as a stopover to the ferry at Cairnryan.
- Suzanne (8/5): Very good - Booked very last minute. Efficient communication and check in process. Room spotless and really good value for money Bed was a double which was a bit small
- Robert (9/5): Superb - Nice comfortable hotel. Very helpful and accommodating landlord. Ideal spot to stay for cycle touring.
- Michael (10/5): Excellent Accomodation, Brilliant nights sleep in a quiet room - Quiet room, modern style with memory foam mattress! Very good nights rest. No breakfast available
- Clare (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sheelagh (10/5): Great value for money for short visit :) - The property was very good value for money. Decor all very modern. Pizza in bar very tasty. No breakfast but there’s a few supermarkets plus lots of coffee places. I forgot my phone charger and the owner kindly let me borrow one. Comfortable space :)
- Eddie (8/5): A peaceful, comfortable stay. - The room was right at the back of the building, so very quiet. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. Convenient location to explore the town. The bathroom light was very bright, and caught us out when I switched it on and it shone right at my wife who was trying to sleep at the time. We would have preferred to park off the road, but were able to at least park on the street right by the front door. We chose to stay on a night when the pub was closed, which was a pity as the pub looked to offer an interesting selection of drinks.
- Mario (8/5): Very good -
- Julia (9/5): Superb -
- Claire (1/5): Bad -
- Morena (8/5): Very good -
- Johnson (8/5): Clean friendly and comfortable. Pub only open from Wednesday - Comfortable beds. Spotlessly clean. Very friendly and helpful staff It would have been good to know that the pub didn't open until Wednesday and that food isn't served until Thursday.
- Broughton (8/5): Very good -
- Rita (8/5): A very restful stay in this lovely property. - Very comfortable room, quiet and at the back of the property. Excellent evening pizzas. Limited local ale choice on the bar.
- Scott (10/5): Exceptional - Very comfortable bed and facilties
- Amy (10/5): Lovely location & friendly staff - Lovely little hotel with a nice pub attached. Very friendly staff and made good recommendations to eat nearby. There was no restaurant however could order pizza. We heard people chatting in bar about munchy boxes so that would have been good to know as we would have ordered!
- Anne (10/5): Will be our go to hotel in Newton Stewart - best out of them all . - The owner was very welcoming , hotel has had money spent on it - rooms very nice , clean and warm .
- Kenny (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amanda (8/5): Very good -
- Carly (10/5): Cosy room - Comfortable room, clean, great size. Perfect location for visiting Galloway Forrest. Nice pub downstairs with delicious pizzas on offer. Nothing we enjoyed our stay.
- Matt (8/5): Very good - Friendly staff, comfortable room, great price. Only on street parking.
- Carolyn (10/5): Hidden gem. The area is fantastic to explore and The Blackhorse Hotel is the perfect place to stay! - I was very comfortable and slept well. The room was clean and spacious. The location was great and gave me access to everything I wanted to do and easy walks to places for dining, shopping, activities and bus stops. I wish I had booked to stay longer. My fault, not theirs.
- Ryszard (9/5): Nice for stay - Very nice, friendly staff. Good bar:) Bathroom and rooms should be a little big greater
- Catrina (8/5): Very good -
- James (1/5): brutal - not a lot everything
- Cheryl (7/5): Good - Friendly, helpful host. Hotel is in a convenient location close to the town centre. Room was clean and bed comfortable. Unfortunately, there is currently no chef so there was no breakfast or dinner available in the hotel. I ate in another hotel a few metres away, which was decent. There are places to buy breakfast and coffee in the town, so not a massive problem.
- Douglas (7/5): Stopover on a weekend trip to western Galloway. - Warm welcome, ease of on street parking, excellent bar with home made pizzas.....delicious !
Decent choice of beers in the bar too and adequate space. Bed not comfortable.
- Kelly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (10/5): Very welcoming and great place to stay - Very clean and great value for money the beer garden at the back is so lovely and peaceful.
The owners couldn’t do enough for us, really friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - Really friendly staff. Nice area. Very clean. Would definitely recommend No faults whatsoever
- Greg (10/5): Fantastic time had by e Tetons in our party - Location was great. Plenty of off street parking. Rooms were great. The atmosphere at the inn during the evening was fantastic. We all had a great stay Nothing. Everything me our needs and expectations
- Kelly (10/5): Fantastic beautiful place - Beautiful place great location and fantastic hosts that go above and beyond, and the garden that's being built single handly by the landlord is amazing 👏 That we didn't book for longer
- Bacardilyn (7/5): Good - Location was right for our stay as we were there for a family wedding
Derek Very nice, friendly and welcoming
Room decent size
Bed super comfy (we want one 😂)
Large lovely bathroom with free toiletries
Nice bar & beer garden good choices and prices
Thank you for nice couple of days and deffo come and stay again ! 👌😊 Check in bit confusing due to card details no fault of hotel and sorted quickly
No breakfast😭 ...(we did know after we booked)
View from room ...mmm 😕 no view just a couple of brick walls 😧
Hanging /hooks & shelf space limited
Fan in bathroom very loud 🙈
Blinds on window didn't work
Room was never "made up" ..but prob if we saw someone we could have asked 😊
...and we only had 2 towels 🙈
Very Quiet in bar
Wanted to play pool at 10.10 pm on a Friday night told sorry no ...girl was lovely & chatty....but she deffo wanted to shut up early 😔we did buy one drink. Then 2 other people did come in and she hurried them along too😕 ...i get it if no one is in but we would have bought few more drinks and played 2/3 games of pool ..
But these details (for me mind) are just small things ...
- David (8/5): Very good - Surprise cup of coffee from the owner in the morning. Careful storage of our bikes. With no access to a breakfast, finding something suitable in the town not easy
- Michael (9/5): Great value! - Room tastefully decorated, wood fired pizza was delicious. Good Wi-Fi. Overall, great value for money and nice to support a family owned local business Foam topper on the bed wasn’t good for my back, but otherwise the bedding/pillows/room were all super comfy/cosy
- Michelle (7/5): A comfortable stay - Central location Noise from the bar
- Thomp. (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lilian (9/5): Great weather and place to explore - Very welcoming ,clean and comfortable and location perfect
- Angela (7/5): Good -
- Jason (8/5): Good value for money - Very clean and well appointed room. Great value for money. Comfy bed. Appreciated the tea and coffee in the room. Room at the front facing the road. No double glazing so was very aware of road noise. Hot spell of weather, so a fan would have been appreciated.
- Christine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fiona (8/5): Very good -
- Churchill (10/5): Lovely room and a lovely nights sleep - stayed for one night whilst in the area with work. Great little hotel, lovely room with private bathroom, comfy bed plus all the amenities I needed. The lovely lady who showed me to my room even brought me a fan cos it was a very warm evening in sunny Scotland. Highly recommend 👍
- Megan (7/5): Comfy stay for a short stop over - Good location, clean and comfy room. Lovely staff who were happy to help. Food wasn’t available the night I was there but the staff were happy to give suggestions of where to go.
- Rita (9/5): Lovely hotel in great location - Our room was very clean and comfortable and the landlord and landlady, welcoming. The hotel is ideally located for exploring Dumfries & Galloway. Buses to Dumfries, Girvan and Wigtown leave from just down the road. The pub also does tasty pizzas in the evening They don't do breakfast, which might not appeal to some people? However, there's plenty of places to eat nearby, which suited us fine
- Eddie (8/5): Very good -
- Alan (9/5): Great - Room was neat and very clean, Tracey the host was very good. N/A

- Ms (9/5): Short & Sweet - This hotel is a cosy, clean place if you're travelling and need an overnight stay. There is a lovely big bar/restaurant downstairs. So keep this in mind if you just want to sleep. The noise is low and acceptable.. The room was small but I can assure you comfy.. The mattress and pillow... Bliss... I spent a Friday night there, so just a wee bit loud when folk were leaving...
