Guest Reviews
- Rosemary (8/5): Very good -
- Lucas (1/5): Bad - Nothing, I didn't sleep there, no reception, 0 communication, no one to inform anything at this place. No one to open the door or answer the messages, poor place
- Julia (10/5): Great place to stay a bit outside of city centre - Big rooms with lots of space. Kitchen was well equipped and very big, never felt crowded. Nice common Areas. It is not located in the very city centre, which requires quite a bit of walking to get to attractions, marina and co.
- Pit (8/5): Very good -
- Dennis (1/5): miserable - Nothing They cancelled my booking short notice and I am still waiting for my money of the pre paid booking.
- Thais (10/5): Would highly recommend this accommodation! - Staff was friendly, toilets were clean and no noise during rest hours. Very comfortable beds and clean sheets.
Would highly recommend this accommodation.
- Marita (8/5): Very good - Loads of communal areas and space. Reception doesn't open till 8am which isn't the best for early flights.
- Abby (10/5): Perfect for what we needed - Felt very secure, we were in a private room and all the private rooms had a separate kitchen and chill area and our own bathrooms. Room was super comfy, and everything was spotlessly clean, I can see why people would stay here long term, it felt like a very respectful environment.
Great location, we walked to the bus station super early in the morning with no issues.
Staff were super friendly, had a nice chat on checking in and as we had to leave a key deposit they made sure we sorted this over the phone as we checked out before reception was open. Nothing
- Nashita (7/5): Good price for value - I liked how close it was to the city centre. And the staff were friendly too, they also helped with our luggage after we checked out so we could come back for it later. It was wasnt that quiet, we kept hearing people open and close doors, and that kept us awake, bring earplugs. But good place for what you pay for.
- Maki (7/5): Pay attention to check-in time - Overall, the facility was clean.
The kitchen was spacious and the common area was separated from the rooms I stayed in, so slept well in a quiet environment. ・Note that staff is not around after 10pm, so need to call in case of emergency.
・Even though I booked a room with air conditioning, the temperature was actually controlled by the staff in each area and it was very cold at night.
・Even though I had given my credit card information directly to the front desk staff for a deposit refund due to early morning check-out, (was it not shared among the staff?)I ended up having to exchange card information later, and since personal information cannot be exchanged on the Booking.com site, I contacted Whatsup but no reply from them, so I had to SMS text them, which resulted in unnecessary charges.
- Isaac (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lindy (8/5): Spacious and clean, good facilities - Reception staff were welcoming and always attentive when needed. Laundry facilities are available and conveniently located near shared bathrooms upstairs.
118 Nelson St is a short walk from Queen St, 20 minutes walk to ferries or Britomart. I had a shared dormitory bunk bed. Comfortable but compact. TMAC provided shelf storage in the room, which was great. Also plenty of lounge space nearby to relax without disturbing others.
- Lisa (9/5): Superb -
- Saffron (8/5): Very good - Very clean room and kitchen area
Impressed overall
Would stay here again
- Rhett (7/5): Convenient (because of parking) - I chose TMACS because it has onsite parking. I think parking perhaps didn't need to be charged. The upstairs lounge is nice. Balcony is good too.
Satiya was very pleasant. Upstairs lounge lighting turns off too often (and requires drastic motion in the room to turn back on). I suggest adjusting the motion detector sensitivity and/or angle, or disengage altogether. If the latter, put a "turn off lights when leaving" sign up where a switch would be.
Hallway lighting: rather than have the lighting turn off, have it go into reduced lighting mode when there is inactivity (30-50%). Complete darkness is unsettling, even though the lighting comes back on with motion. Presumably your lighting is LED, which means low power consumption even at full brightness.
The accommodation could use some color, design throughout, dorm rooms as well. Additional hanger hooks in rooms. A bunk shelf for each bed.
- Yoshiyuki (9/5): Superb -
- Wilianto (9/5): Superb -
- Joseph (10/5): Exceptional - A good location in Auckland, with a good price for what you get. The facilities were very good and the staff very welcoming and friendly! We stayed in a double with a shared bathroom and the room was clean with a very comfy bed, toilets all clean with good showers. No issues with wifi, and we enjoyed the free pool table.
- Richard (9/5): Very impressed and would recommend even if you’re not a seasoned hostel stayer, we’re in our 60’s - Very clean and comfortable. Great location, easy walking distance to city center. Only 2 of the 4 showers were operational but was not an issue for me but could have been a problem if the hostel was busy.
- Ugochinyere (9/5): Superb - Staff were super friendly and helpful. Place was clean and Location was quite good although you need to walk about 20 minutes to the center. Bathroom was a bit too far from my room.
- June (8/5): Very good - Good car park No complimentary tea and coffee
- Nicole (9/5): Superb - Best value for money for a hostel stay. By far the best hostel I've stayed at in terms of comfort, cleanliness, friendly staff etc. The room had a TV with Netflix which is a bonus. Bathroom and shower cubicles were great.
- Cristina (9/5): Superb - Centrally located N/A

- Ericka (10/5): Worth everything!!! - The staff is wonderful. Very helpful and friendly. The location is very good, very central. The kitchen has everything you need. The living room has lots of space and is very comfortable. Nothing.
- Kaspar (7/5): Good - Good location for activities in the city. Could be cleaner, especially floors in the rooms, and the bathrooms.
- Issei (6/5): Not too bad for the price but definitely not good either - Cheap and close enough to the city Noisy and loud, the acoustics between the room was very bad and you can hear the other rooms conversations very clearly. Shower also kept on turning off because the lever was too heavy
- Khamisah (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Chantelle (8/5): Very good -
- Lucas (5/5): Passable -
- Anna (8/5): Comfortable and well-located for a transit stay - Room was relatively comfortable, bathrooms were clean. Fire alarm at 5am
- Daunhauer (6/5): Pleasant -
- Wujun (10/5): Exceptional -
- Godet (9/5): Superb - lot of space, I mostly had the kitchen upstairs for myself, and next to my room there were two toilets with their own bathrooms, so I never had to use the shared bathrooms. no window on my room (I was in a solo room)
the hostel location is not horrible, it is okay, but not the best area in Auckland.
- Ethan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jenny (6/5): Only come if you’re not a light sleeper. - The location is good. The stuff is very nice and helpful. The facilities are clean. The room window is facing to the street. It’s very noisy and loud during the day and into the night! The shower stall doesn’t have a holder for the shampoo and conditioner and body wash. 😩 The room didn’t have any chairs. I had to ask for one. There weren’t any surface area to put your stuff.
- Claudia (8/5): Very good - Nice and helpful staff The room didn’t have a window
- Joseph1024 (9/5): Superb -
- Grainne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Molly (8/5): Very good -
- Tabitha (8/5): Very good - Super accommodating of me arriving early and leaving baggage in storage.
Fridge in bedroom was great! Comfy bed. Liked the option to have own room but share bathroom. Quite a lot of noise transmitted from other rooms. Bathroom was down a different corridor.
- Chloe (8/5): Very good - Very clean and the 2nd floor was well equipped for kitchen and bathroom facilities. The street was a bit loud but the room was comfortable. Staff very accommodating.
- Muhammad (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shari (10/5): Exceptional - Extremely nice and caring staff, very clean hostel and overall very welcoming atmosphere. I loved my stay here.
- Anonymous_07 (9/5): Would Strongly Recommend! - Good amount of showers, which were really clean.
Friendly & helpful staff.
Easy process to access the building after reception closed.
Great location. Being in a room with a long stayer, who was a little overbearing.
Not dislikes, but things that would be nice - a thicker pillow & a shelf in the shower to put products on.
- Liujing (10/5): Outstanding - Good location good service!
- Taiyo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amos (9/5): Loved it, enjoyed my stay! - Clean and quiet facility. CBD cop siren on a Friday night, but this is not in anyone's control...
- Gaudier (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Samuel (8/5): Very good -
- Maren (8/5): Very good -
- Andre (8/5): Very good -
- Lee (6/5): Pleasant -
- Teodoro (8/5): Our stay with TMACS is a nice experience. Value for money is OK. - Good location and helpful staffs. Maybe kitchen exhaust can be improved. For fire alarm will not be triggered frequently.
- Sarah (4/5): Disappointing - Nice bathroom and comfy bed but it had NO WINDOW and therefore no natural light and no possible fresh air flow! Not sure if that is even legal in NZ.
At night, the light from the corridor could be seen in the room because the door had a gap at the bottom.
- Saowanee (9/5): your hostel excellent - I like staff very much, he is the most kindness support and friendly, service mind
- Josh (7/5): Good -
- Emile (8/5): Very good -
- Emile (8/5): Very good -
- Charlotte (9/5): Great value for money hostel in Auckland - Great value for money hostel in Auckland. We booked a private room with en-suite bathroom which was comfortable and clean. The shared kitchen/lounge area was also clean and tidy and it was nice to have the patio area where we could sit and eat breakfast outside. The staff were very friendly and the free wifi worked well. There were no cushions or table and chairs on the patio which would have made this area more comfortable.
- Isaac (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christina (9/5): Superb -
- Gary (8/5): I will definitely stay at Tmacs again if I need a place to in Auckland. - Convenient location and on site parking. No natural lighting in rooms.
- Lavish (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rachel (6/5): Pleasant -
- Shylah (7/5): Good -
- Sophy (10/5): Amazing staff, very clean and had a warm welcoming stay, would definitely recommend! - The staff were extremely accommodating and helpful, especially when it came to temporarily parking our van before it was returned. All staff were very friendly and helpful, always offered to help with our bags and were visibly happy to do so. Our van was too tall for the underground parking so, the wonderful staff member who's name I unfortunately didn't catch, helped us to park the van round the back. Amazing team at TMACS!
- Xuping (4/5): Not good - The location is not bad The room is facing the road. And it’s noisy at night, we couldn’t sleep because of this. We were not informed of this and we are extremely disappointed
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Belle (9/5): Superb - Location, easy check in, friendly helpful staff. Nice facility With a pre-existing ankle injury there were no lifts just stairs. Staff on duty was very helpful, by offering to take my bag up :). It's a small challenge for those with mobility constraint.
- Anna (10/5): Comfortable and clean - Great hostel in Auckland centre. Super close to the sky tower. Rooms were clean and bathrooms were good. Staff were really friendly. Kitchen pretty good too
- Cheah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cheah (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (6/5): Okay & fair value for a one night stay - Location good, price good, staff good Room facilities were minimal.
The street noise from traffic was loud & continuous, even with window & both blinds closed
- Rose (6/5): Good facilities and friendly people - Great facilities, friendly staff, very clean We did not realise our room would not have any windows until we arrived. It was also quite cramped. Okay for the price though.
- Joaquin (9/5): Superb -
- Jenalyn (7/5): We had a nice stay. - Walking distance to almost everything around the city it’s ideal just for our overnight stay and reasonably priced. The room and other facilities are clean & secured parking. Traffic noise.
- Rebecca (7/5): Cheap and clean accommodation - Clean hostel with good kitchen and bathroom facilities and nice social spaces Just little things like there are no curtains for the beds, and there are no individual lights or sockets for each bed which would make it much more comfortable. There is only one light for the whole room so if people get back late the light has to stay on or they’re trying to find their way in the dark, makes for a less comfortable sleep. There was a tv and a fridge in our room which didn’t really make sense for a shared hostel dorm when there are fridges in the kitchen anyway. Would have been a better use of the space to have the basics like lockers instead.
- Noa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jose (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wujun (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sneha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lucie (10/5): Exceptional - We had a very nice stay. It's really clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful! We can definitely recommend it!
- Caoimhe (9/5): Great for the budget girls trip. - Nice central location. Perfect style rooms for travel friend groups. The staff were nice and helpful. Felt very safe with the locked front door. The room was spacious for the price. Nelson Street gets very loud at night with car noise. pillows were small flat and sad. Sheet where thin might be cold in winter.
- Yukiyo (7/5): Good! - Staff is very good The room is a little narrow
- Florencia (7/5): Good -
- Randeep (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thomas (6/5): Pleasant -
- Katalin (8/5): Great value for money - Location was amazing Bathrooms could’ve been cleaner
