Guest Reviews
- Aisling (8/5): Budget friendly & peaceful remote setting - Big house. Three bedrooms. One with 2 double beds, & aircon. One with 1 double bed and a fan (2 steps down into this room). The final room had 2 single beds (2 steps down into this room). Comfortable beds. Enough room for 8 people to sleep.
Remote location good for birds. Nice short private rainforest walks (100% need bug spray before going). There are lots of birds in the area so bring your camera and binoculars! We were told that this used to be a house for scientists / researchers. We found an abandoned pond in the rainforest area, which I think might be cool to visit at night with a red light, but we didn't do this ourselves.
Big kitchen with everything we needed and more. Big fridge. Kettle. Lots of cutlery and pots / pans.
Two bathrooms. The bathroom with just a toilet had rails, which was incredibly helpful for my mum, who is disabled. The other bathroom didn't have rails for the toilet, but it did have 2x rails in the shower, which again was very helpful for my mum. The only thing that would have made it even better would have been the option of a shower seat. However, this place wasn't advertised as disability friendly, so these were all bonuses for us.
There was a washing machine, but we didn't use it, so I'm not sure how well it works. But it was free to use. You'd just need to bring your own detergent.
The living room was a nice size with a nice table. There was an additional unnecessary table in the living room that took up space and might have been better out the front. But the seats were more solid so it was useful again for mum.
We were given a discount code & website for lots of activities, which was very kind, but we didn't use any as we were on a tight budget, and the coffee tours, etc, were very pricey in the La Fortuna area. The shower didn't have hot water whilst we were there, and we had to ask for a discount, and we got $15 off for our 4 night stay.
Be aware that it's a damp rainy area of Costa Rica, and there's nowhere to hang wet clothes without it smelling. Obviously, this isn't their fault, but just something that could be easily improved with a clothes rails/line outside under the rain cover.
There were two dogs that would arrive and sit outside of the door. The white female dog was OK, non-aggressive, and would just lie down outside and stayed back, presumably just waiting for food. There was another that looked like a small German shepherd, and it barked / chased my husband when he went on a run and then later tried to come into the airbnb. It didn't bite but made us a bit nervous. We didn't feed them for the 4 days we were there as we didn't want to encourage them. Although we felt bad for them as they were both quite skinny. The brown German Shepherd like one had a green collar on and may have been a neighbour's dog.
- Hannah (10/5): We traveled through San Jose, La Fortuna, and Manuel Antonio and this was by far our favorite place! - My family loved everything about the property. We loved that is in La Fortuna, but was also secluded- we had our own little private rainforest with well marked walking trails. The house had all amenities that a family would need to have a comfortable stay. We enjoyed waking up early and having coffee on the hammock while bird watching. The property manager, Josh, was AMAZING! He was there to answer our questions very quickly and helped us set up transportation to and from La Fortuna every day we were there- being that the house is located within a short drive from the city center. He was very informative and upfront of the area and what to expect during our stay. The house is cooled by fans, so if someone is expecting air conditioning it may come as a surprise, but there were plenty of fans provided to make for a comfortable stay.
