Guest Reviews
- Elizabeth (6/5): Pleasant -
- Tigerlily (9/5): Superb -
- Sue (1/5): We had 9 nights in this place and no wonder it was pay up front!!!! or you wouldn't stay. - Bed linen was very clean, Air Conditioning worked well, Central to the City of Cairns.
Only saw one staff member and he had to bring toilet paper as not enough was provided for 9 nights and he was prompt and ok. Would suit Backpackers only. Too much to cover - everything else was to dislike. Bathroom was dangerous - shower never had a door so water was everywhere all over the floor. TV very hard to work - everything old and nothing homely about the place. Oven - filthy!!! hot plates rusty!!!! No extra blankets, towels (all had to be put on the floor to avoid slipping with so much water everywhere.)
- Autumn (6/5): Pleasant -
- Jennifer (2/5): Only stay here if you want to pay very cheap and be in a good location, otherwise don’t waste your money and go somewher - It was in a good location, near Cairns Central. Not clean - ventilation was dirty and dead cockroaches under bed.
Couldn’t open windows because mosquitoes would come in.
Toaster smoked up the apartment.
Booking said there were 3 beds - arrived with only two in the same room, had to request staff to move beds and provide another bed: staff admitted that the advertisement on booking isn’t accurate and that the property has a lot of complaints.
Washing machine isn’t in the apartment, located outside and is coin operated ($4 a load).
Could hear the people staying upstairs and party was going on in a different apartment located on the property.
Could see people through the bathroom windows - uncomfortable knowing people can see in.
- Taylam (1/5): The place is a shit hole -
- Antony (6/5): Pleasant - it was close to all main amenities, all main facilities within walking distance. It felt like It was different from the photos posted, a bit more old and basic, and mosquitoes were a big issue.Kids got bitten everywhere, which was a major drawback and made our stay uncomfortable
- Gould (9/5): Great stay with my 2 teens and dog - Great location
- Lyn (7/5): Well located for cairns, a bit noisy with some of the other residents, fair value for money. - The apartment was spacious and clean Need blinds for the bathroom.
There was a large dead cockroach on the windowsill when we arrived - although we didn’t see any more it was off putting.
- Sonnika (1/5): Grim stay at Grimshaw - Close to the shopping centre The property was riddled with flies, the host left a crawling insect killer spray which had just enough left to kill most so good luck to the next guest. All of the kitchenware looked like unwanted stuff donated from their own home after finally getting around to a big clear out, all pots were old, scratched, and burnt. Every plate and mug was mismatched, and random quantities e.g., a single odd shaped bowl provided to accommodate 3 people, alongside a rusted cake tin. All cooking utensils were crusted with old food, pots oily - just a complete lack of care. There were blinds in the hallway and bedroom however the bathroom directly faced the bins and had no blinds over the floor to ceiling windows at all, the glass was frosted but anyone walking past would obviously see your silhouette on the toilet, in the shower etc as we could make out theirs - very uncomfortable. Bedroom sheets stained, sheets on the single bed actually had a wet raised stain that we didn’t get too close to. Walls were so thin it sounded like we were actually in the water pipes anytime a neighbours taps went on. Definitely wouldn’t return or recommend, it was cheap but not competitively.
- Rosemary (8/5): Thank you for an enjoyable and peacei would definat4 - I was in cairns to visit family and do shopping and living here was the best for me coz it was only 5 mins walk to cairns central, train station and bus stop My family stayed for 13 nights and enjoyed the comfort and privacy there.
- Monica (8/5): Very good - Excellent location. Good facilities (fans, air con, kitchen facilities) Photos on Booking.com weren't specific to the apartment being advertised, so we weren't sure which photos were applicable to our stay when booking, and only found out upon arrival.
- Nimer (3/5): Disappointed! - Location of the house The furniture was in terrible condition, the sofas were extremely dirty and broken. The single bed frame was also broken, I had to shove it against the wall and hope it doesn't fall apart. Also the window AC unit didn't work either, it turned on but did not cool the room whatsoever.
The Aircon in the main bedroom was beyond disgusting!!! Heavily moulded and dusty, the aircon was barely working, we ended up not using it.
- David (10/5): Exceptional - Great location. Quiet area, ease of access to get to shops and around Cairns. Bus stop very short walk.
Was a very enjoyable stay and also relaxing. Head out to enjoy the town and head back to enjoy the cool
- Gunvir (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kari (9/5): Superb - What breakfast?
- Terrence (8/5): every thing was easy and relaxing thanks. - walking distance to town and bus , train station close. all the stay was good.
- Kate (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kate (10/5): Great for travelling with a Homely vibe, and a central location - Grimshaw House was a great choice of mine for my family and I.
It has a lovely, homely feel to it. It is very central to Cairns City CBD, which makes it very convenient to get anything done and to get around easily.
Very high-speed WiFi which comes with the price of the stay, and the rooms are comfortable, homely, and clean.
It is a secure, gated property, and we felt very safe during our stay.
Authentic Queensland experience right in the Cairns City! Not Applicable, I have no complaints. It is value for money, a brilliant Queensland property, Secure apartment, and a great location.
- Adrián (2/5): Disgusting - Spacious. Sticky floor, rusty stove, dirty fridge. Old furniture. Cockroaches everyday and everywhere. Noisy neighbours and zero sound insulation.
- Phillip (9/5): Superb - Exelent
- Zoe (9/5): Great and convenient stay for a quick trip to Cairns :) - Great location, clean, had what we needed. Great communication.
- Kelly (7/5): Good -
- Melanie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melanie (9/5): A lovely tropical stay - You are not even a 5 minute walk away from cairns central, it is virtually just there. Staff were very friendly, and it was just a nice place to stay in general Absolutely nothing
- Johnny (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joan (8/5): Very good -
- Packard (5/5): Basic apartment, cheap, nothing special but does the job - -A great size apartment, plenty of room for a travel cot/ baby to crawl etc.
- Bed was comfy
- location is about a 15min walk to the esplanade which we thought was great considering the price. - sadly it wasn’t very clean and you can hear the room above loud and clear.
- the kitchen had a very odd mix of utensils etc and some were broken/ very old and weathered. Well and truly in need of an update.
- Scully (10/5): Comfortable, excellent host and staff, good location. - Really spacious apartments, we were lucky enough to get to stay in 2 of them. The beds were extremely comfortable and the pillows even more so.
Management were very kind, helpful and responsive. We put in more than one request and each time it was dealt with promptly and efficiently and nothing was too much.
Location was very good, close to cairns central shopping centre and a short walk to the esplanade and city centre. When we stayed in the ground floor apartment, we did notice the loud footsteps from upstairs here and there, but after a week we moved to that upstairs apartment and it was very difficult to not make any noise when walking because of the wooden floorboards!
- Petr (2/5): Very poor - Good location, low price. The accommodation vas EXTREMELY noisy - the windows did not close all the way and the walls were really thin, so we could hear everything outside, including the rather noisy outside AC units. Moreover, during our stay, the owner rented the unit next to ours to some young people (we counted 10 of them!) who had parties two nights in a row and were unbelievably loud. When we contacted him and explained the issue, he was rather uncooperative (we recieved suggestions such as just knock on their door and ask them to be quiet) and then stopped replying...
There was also next to none furniture in our unit, no wardrobe or dresser. The accommodation is at most for 3 people, as when the couch was unfolded it completely blocked the access to the bathroom for other people.
- Marcia (2/5): Wouldn't book there again, was not for me. - Great air-conditioning and great location.
They provided me with an iron at my request which was kind of them.
My room was downstairs and very spacious. Larger than expected and the facilities are fine.
For those just wanting some cheaper style accommodation then Grimshaw House is comfortable enough. The people were nice enough and gave good instructions to get into the room easily. Although they try to present it well, and it smelt extensively like bleach, it's not exactly clean. It's a little dusty and grimy, not cleaned well. The bleach smell is just because they have slopped bleach water on the floor and left to dry without mopping it off. You can see all the residue from the bleach on the floor and if you have wet feet, it's super slippery. I had to ask for a mop so I could re-mop it.
Inside of draws and cupboards aren't wiped out and are stained and dirty.
I can't leave any food out on the benches because there are ants and some flying bugs in the room.
I found a cockroach on my bed and 2 on the floor. All alive which I had to kill. I had to put all my food in the fridge where it's sealed from any critters.
Although it has a decent kitchen, there was no dish cloth for washing dishes or wiping surfaces and there's no tea towel supplied. So I couldnt clean anything myself until i requested a teatowel.
I couldnt touch the bin lid. It was really dirty and I had to clean it myself before I used it.
The fire extinguisher has not been serviced or service tag stamped since Feb 2020. Neither has the fire blanket.
There are cobwebs and spiders in the ceiling corners.
Because I was in a downstairs room, you could hear everything from above. And yes, I mean everything. Every footstep, every voice, the tap running, the shower going and the toilet flushing. It's really quite noisy when people are up there, so if you want silence, this isn't for you.
There is also some construction going on next door that starts up at 8am which rattles the glass windows of the room, but that's no real bother compared to the noise from upstairs.
I am glad I packed a small travel soap, because there was none supplied in the shower, just an almost empty used body wash bottle, same for shampoo. No conditioner supplied.
I had to request more toilet paper as only 1 role was supplied for a whole week.
- Boon (4/5): Disappointment - The stuff is very responsive The bed is too old. All the 3 beds was saggy in the middle and made it hard for our back. The floor is very oily even we complained. We have to wear shoes inside the building and be very careful when walking. We requested the tower being replaced, but what they did were just hang it back. Very disappointed and not recommended to anyone after our bad experience
- Ruscle (7/5): Good value, good location. - Nice to stay close to city in old style Queenslander. Some maintenance needs which we mentioned to the staff.
- Sayli (8/5): Overall a good and comfortable stau - The location was perfect for the price and loved the fully furnished place. The wifi connectivity was terrible
- Renato (8/5): Cozy and good location. - The place is near to the shopping mall. You can go anywhere walking. And the price is perfect. The owners are very friendly! 😊. If we got a chance, we'll definitely come back. We were on the first floor and the people above us could be noisy when they walked.
- Frank (7/5): I liked it. Reminded me of the good old days in Cairns. I'll stay there again. - Great location, good space and a comfortable feel. Good value for money. No off street parking and it might be time to think about upgrading the bed?
- Erica (9/5): Superb - The Comfortable Bed and the Linen Pillows
Like the spaciousness of the Apartment Didn't like that it didn't have cutting Board or Cutting knives
- Stella (10/5): Exceptional - Great location and good value. Fully equipped with necessities which was really pleasing too. Nothing
- Kejian (10/5): it is excellent place to stay for short and long term, 100% satisfaction. thx - location, service, cleaning, facility, like everythings nothing
- Jamie (9/5): Superb -
- Margaux (7/5): Good -
- Annika (8/5): nice stay - spacious and clean, quiet neighbourhood
- Carolyn (10/5): I would definitely stay there again. - I liked that the property was secure and central to shops, transport and attractions.
