Guest Reviews
- Charlene (10/5): A joyfully serene place to escape the hustle and bustle - How peaceful and secluded it was (note there are neighbours but not overlooked) No flannels in the bathrooms
- Gary (10/5): We had a fantastic time at Badger Cottage and will be back. - The location is superb if you like walking and cycling, you are minutes away from some excellent off piste MTB tracks. Cafe in village 15mins away did fantastic breakfasts. Easy access to larger towns such as Monmouth. Great outdoor space, covered area, BBQ.
- Danielle (10/5): Absolutely Wonderful! Perfect family holiday - The location was great. We were initially concerned about how close it was to the road, but we didn't notice the sound of traffic when inside the property and when we were in the garden at night watching the stars, it was tranquil.
We loved watching all the wildlife in the garden and the forest opposite the cottage. The animals were very active in the mornings.
The cottage was beautiful and I really appreciated the little things like the detailed information booklet to let us know where the closest places to eat were, how to do the recycling, the little bottle of milk in the fridge for brews, the biscuit selection, the books, boardgames, and the local information leaflets. We were able to arrive and relax, just like we wanted to.
The shower had fantastic water pressure, it was lovely. There's parking directly outside the property at the front, or you can go around the back to park as well if you have a larger car, but the access road was a bit bumpy/potholey up there and you have to walk up and down the steps in the back garden to access the car if you want to use that. So we preferred to park at the front of the cottage.
The cottage is in the forest of dean. You can access walks around the forest by simply crossing the road to it. It was just a 5 minute drive from puzzlewood, a 6 minute drive from clearwell caves and a 9 minute drive to the big Tesco in Lydney for fuel and supplies. N/A

- Lucy (10/5): Immaculate cottage with all the little things thought of. - We had a lovely 2 night stay in Badger Cottage, Lee was super helpful in meeting our requests with a cot for our little one and splitting big beds into singles. The house is immaculate, and all the little touches thought of. Even a BBQ and log burner and everything you'd need. Easy parking, super easy to get around (supermarkets within 10 mins drive etc) and some lovely walks right on your doorstep. My two kids (2 & 4) and dog loved the garden, and I felt safe that it was secure for them all. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend the cottage to friends and family, or to come back. Nothing!
- Maria (10/5): - Excellent facilities, very comfortable with everything we needed. Excellent location
- George (9/5): Home from Home - Absolutely everything ❤️
“My wife and I absolutely loved Badger Cottage. Having her parents just four minutes down the road made it feel even more special, and for me, being able to continue my writing surrounded by the peace and quiet of the forest was simply perfect. We really couldn’t have asked for anything more.”
We will be back. Local community drive way to fast for the area.
- Alexia (10/5): Fab stay at Badger cottage, the cottage is beautiful and the facilities are all perfect. Garden all in closed so great i - Lovely homely property, with everything you need. The perfect location for lots of nice walks.
- Joanna (7/5): - The patio could do with a pressure wash slippery. A list of places to eat and phone numbers in the book would have been helpful
- patricia (10/5): Excellent , everything about the property was superb - Excellent property, the little extras in the property left by the host
- Emma (9/5): Lovely cottage, great location in the forest. - Great location, lovely house, clean and everything you needed for a short stay. Forest walks just across the road. Some wasps in the garden as lots of fallen apples. Sofa could have been softer.
- Megan (9/5): - We loved the cottage absolutely beautiful.
Comfy beds
Spacious Water could be hotter. When running bath it was more warm than hot.
- Edwina (9/5): Lovely cosy cottage with woodland walks on the doorstep. You can easily access the village of Parkend via the forest wal - Great location for walking in the forest. Lovely log fire for the winter evenings and plenty of wood supplied. Plenty of room for 2 couples and each bedroom has its own bathroom. Lots of interesting places nearby to explore Occasionally the WiFi would drop out but most of the time it was fine.
- sara (10/5): Lovely stay in a cosy, warm and very well equipped cottage. Thank you. -
- Michelle (10/5): Absolutely amazing property, contact with Lee the owner was outstanding - Good location, plenty of places to walk our two dogs and secure garden so dogs can’t get out
Exceptionally clean and well equipped
Warm,
Good value for money
Beds really comfortable, as with some places bed are awful
We went for a birthday and there was a card, bottle of bubbly and cake on arrive, Lee went above and beyond WiFi not great, could not watch anything on the prime or Netflix, kept sticking, but this would not put us off going again as plenty of boards games. Cards and books to keep you occupied
- Paul (8/5): - Great location close to everything, warm and comfortable cottage.great to have two bathrooms The cooker hob was awkward to use
- Susan (10/5): Cosy and comfortable cottage with everything you could need -
- Nicola (9/5): Really enjoyed our trip to the Forest of Dean. The facilities in the cottage were great. - Location was great . Close to family we were visiting . Comfy but spacious
- Paula (10/5): Beautiful cottage - The host was very communicative, friendly and helpful. The cottage is lovely. Very clean, spacious and comfortable. Both bedrooms are ensuite. A well stocked kitchen and we appreciated the complimentary biscuits and milk. Nice outdoor area to sit and enjoy the sun. Easy parking for two cars. A couple of pubs are within walking distance from the back door of the cottage through the forest on a short woodland walk. Four of us stayed (two couples) for a wedding at Clearwell Castle. Cottage perfectly located for this. Please do note (and this is a separate matter to the cottage) to book your return taxi from the Castle well in advance if you are staying mid-week. We had difficulty getting a return taxi due to some taxi firms not operating in the evening Monday to Thursday. One of our friends hit their head on the ceiling between the downstairs bathroom and the living room, and could probably benefit from either a notice to 'mind their head' or padding (if possible).
- Rob (9/5): - Cosy comfortable good location Blinds would have made kitchen more private
- Adrian (10/5): -
- Haillie (9/5): -
- Shirley (10/5): Fabulous cottage with great outdoor space. - Lovely cottage with very comfortable beds. Loved the outdoor space. Appreciated the complimentary milk, tea/coffee etc. Ideal place for 4 of us to stay for a wedding at Clearwell Castle. Nothing
- John (10/5): The pub and pub food down the road was a bonus - Very clean.
Modern facilities
Lots of complimentary food in the kitchen Low roof (banged my head)
- Kelli (10/5): Fantastic stay in a lovely location. - The property is in a great location in the Forest of Dean. We loved the garden and barbecue area and amenities were plentiful. Upstairs bedroom was quite warm overnight but that is to be expected in the current heatwave.
- Susanne (9/5): Perfect - Parking space. Very comfortable. Garden and sitting area Nothing!
- Carolyn (9/5): Great holiday cottage in super location. - Lovely cottage with everything we needed, very comfortable & a brilliant location. We had a dog with us & we could walk straight into the woods from the secure garden, which was super convenient. Everything was fine 🙂
- Timothy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jarmila (10/5): Exceptional - Gorgeous cottage with everything you need. Clean, comfortable and cozy. Little walk from the village.
- John (9/5): Lovely cottage in a great location - Good location for FOD. Plenty of parking. Well equipped kitchen.
- Jane (8/5): Very good -
- Janis (9/5): Superb -
- Oliver (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jennifer (10/5): A very special place I would recommend. - It was convenient for all activities, local shops and a lovely position. A list/folder of information was left with all sorts of relevant details. It was immediately clear that it was clean and well appointed with attention to detail. Everything you could want was available including a beautiful garden with seating and BBQ. Right on the edge of the Forest of Dean and for us who were attending a family wedding at Clearwell Castle it was ideal .
- Nina (10/5): Relaxing, spotlessly clean, great private outdoor space. - Spotlessly clean. Modern kitchen and equipment. Beautiful enclosed private garden, sheltered comfortable outdoor seating area. Walks into the forest from the back door Rural, little bit of a drive to shops etc
- Simon (9/5): Superb - Incredible location in the forest and only a few minutes drive to nearby amenities. Clean and well equipped throughout. We had a wonderful stay, thanks so much. One small thing, the beds could be bigger as and when they're next upgraded. And my son and I hit our heads on the ceiling between the downstairs bathroom and the living room, it could benefit from padding.
- Lorraine (10/5): Lovely cottage in a great location for exploring the Forest - The location is great for exploring the Forest and within easy reach of excellent eateries. The cottage is nicely decorated, clean, spacious and comfortable. Parking is easy and for 2 cars. I think you should mention that you can walk to the rspb Nagshead reserve and to the local pub. We drove on the first night and only realised after that we could have walked along the path.
- Zara (10/5): Exceptional - We loved everything about our stay at Badger cottage. Such a delightful homely place. Extreamly Clean and very well stocked with everything you could need. We booked as a spontaneous night away in the forest of Dean. Our 2 children 15 and 9 had the best time and loved being able to walk Into the forest from the garden and enjoyed spending the evening next to fire playing card and board games that were all provided. Our puppy had the best time, too, and it was lovely to have a secure garden for him. The owner Lee was very helpful when we asked where we could get charcoal for the bbq as we didn't know the area. Would highly recommend and we can't wait to return for hopefully a longer stay.
- Gardner (9/5): Superb - We liked the off road parking and having use of the large garden. Having two seperate double bedrooms with their own bathroom was great when sharing with friends.
- Paul (9/5): Perfect for our short stay. Easy zero stress - Clean well presented , lovely little cottage. Not much not to like
- Teresa (10/5): 🎄 🎄🎄A very Merry Christmas at Badger Cottage - Beautifully appointed. Well equipped. Thoughtful extras and little touches. Stylish and homely at the same time. Comfortable and cosy. Home from home .
Loved it! Nothing!!
- Mark (10/5): Very good. - Clean, tidy, well stocked and comfortable We couldn't quite manage to get the downstairs shower to get hot.
- Samantha (10/5): Exceptional - Great location
- Jenny (10/5): Exactly what we needed & excellent communication -
- Tracy (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful location and close to where I was visiting.
Family friendly and thought of everything we needed
- Tim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Artur (9/5): Superb -
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely cottage. Spacious and well furnished! Will definitely return.
- Johannes (10/5): Incredible stay at an awesome location - The photos don’t do justice to quite how good this place is. Amazing location and stunning inside and out. We had everything we needed and in style. Loved it and very much looking forward to returning for a longer period as it just has a calming effect that very quickly settles on you Nothing. Everything was perfect
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Margaret (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nigel (8/5): Great cottage close to Parkend - Lovely quirky cottage with a good amount of space and a good garden. Tea, coffee, milk and biccies was a nice touch.
Easy walk into town away from the road on an old railway line and good access to the forest. Upstairs bed was a bit uncomfortable. Kitchen layout was unhelpful with commonly used pans out of the way and hard to access. Little space for own groceries.
Garden could use some tidying up.
Banged my head twice on low ceiling coming out of downstairs bathroom - needs a warning sign.
- Shajeev (10/5): A Wonderful Dog-Friendly Cottage With A Very Pleasant Atmosphere And Lots Of Thoughtful Touches - We loved Badger Cottage! It was very nicely appointed with comfy furniture, spacious bedrooms, huge bathrooms and lots of thoughtful touches such as a pint of milk in the fridge, plenty of tea and coffee, dog-treats, a squashy dog-bed and even poo bags left for our use. The property and grounds felt well-tended and looked-after and had a very pleasant atmosphere overall. We especially loved the fact that the property was enclosed and we could let our dog out in the garden without worry. Lee was a gracious and responsive host, with excellent comms throughout. Our only suggestion would be that the mattresses in both bedrooms could use replacing as they felt as if they were past their best in terms of comfort.
- Kerensa (10/5): Perfect location with every creature comfort provided. Super relaxing. - Beautiful property. Super clean, very comfortable with great attention to detail. Excellent communication from the host who went above and beyond to accommodate us. Nothing. It was literally perfect. I cannot fault our stay.
- Eunji (10/5): A great property, a perfect location. - A great property - a well kitted kitchen, 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms, enclosed garden and fruit trees!
A perfect location - every place we wanted/needed to go (Puzzlewood, aMazing maze, Tinturn Abbey, Arthur's Cave, Chepstow, Lidl, etc etc) all within a short drive.
A nature reserve and a great walk, just outside the back garden door. Nothing.
It was a re-visit.
We will come back again.
- Adam (9/5): Superb - Cosy and quiet
- Sharon (10/5): Cozy, comfortable, home from home. - Immaculate and very very comfortable. Beautiful cozy lounge room and a very well stocked kitchen. If I was to be very very picky, I would have liked some quality towels. Apart from that tiny detail, the cottage was really lovely.
- Ana (9/5): Superb -
- Caroline (8/5): Very good - Lovely cosy cottage with amazing outdoor space and BBQ. There’s fab parking at the rear we didn’t realise was there so used the slots at the front but ample space.
The house was clean as a whistle, had everything that you could need and we enjoyed our stay. The sofa was not very comfy, sorry.
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional Property. - The cottage garden was completely safe for dogs and at the rear of the property, was access to the forest, which was amazing. The property was clean and well equipped. Lovely area for sitting outside to eat. No ice cream scoop 😉.
- Shirley (10/5): Excellent character cottage - Each bedroom (both set as doubles) came with own bathroom. Plenty of space. Cool but had wood burner and logs provided if needed. Separate kitchen, plenty of light. Fresh furnishings, window hangings but in character with cottage. Lovely private garden with various seating, one set under cover with a bbq. Back gate to extra off road parking. It is on a fairly busy road so some noise in the garden, even back garden and in front upstairs bedroom as we had to keep window open. Only those very sensitive would be affected. It did not affect our enjoyment and we would definitely return.
- Joanna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Scott (10/5): An absolute gem of a property and can’t wait to return - Where do I start, excellent communication from the hosts before and after our stay. The cottage was spotless and the garden area outside was beautiful. Such a peaceful stay in spite of a main road outside, didn’t hear a thing. Beds were comfy and loads of space inside for relaxation and quality family time. Highly recommended, you won’t be disappointed. Just wish we had more time to explore the area… but will be back! Nothing to dislike

Bedrooms and bathrooms excellent.
Outdoor seating area really lovely, but we didn't have much time to use it.
Location peaceful and direct access to The Forest.
Walking distance to 2 pubs.
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional - Spotlessly clean, perfect location (we enjoyed walks around the sculpture trail and symonds yat nearby), nice secure garden so we could relax with our Houdini dog.
Hosts were also very helpful and kind when I had a hiccup over the booking
- Aye (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was as described and reviewed. We did have high expectations and they were certainly met. The host was very attentive and kind. The Nagshead nature reserve was within walking distance, nice forest path into the village and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. Thank you.
- Maud (10/5): Wonderful stay - The house was light and spacious! The kitchen was well stocked with equipment and the power shower was amazing! You can step straight out into the forest to explore and only a quick drive to the shops if needed. There were thoughtful touches too - sweets on the table, biscuits in the jar and a fresh pint if milk in the fridge! The garden was lovely but we didnt have time to make the most of it. I would definately go back again! Nothing
- E (9/5): Badger Cottage getaway - Lovely cottage in a fabulous setting in the Coleford area of the Forest of Dean.
Amazing kitchen and accessories with a guidance folder on places to visit and activities locally for families and dog owners. WiFi and phone service easy to access and a sunny patio deck at the end of the ornamental garden. Security motion lights and patio light to brighten dusk barbecues and dinners.
A fireplace stove with kindling and matches provided for cosy spring evenings with fire extinguishers on both floors. The 2 bedrooms are en-suite and recently refurbished. Lovely appliances and bathroom suites. Not staying longer!
- Leonie (9/5): Superb -
- Zoe (10/5): Amazing stay - It was very welcoming, a great location for what we needed and had a gorgeous outside space for relaxing. The decor and furniture was all wonderful and made for a very comfortable break.

- Nick (10/5): Excellent cottage highly recommended we will return! - Beautiful cottage in a great location with direct access to the forest and the local village and pubs. Very comfortable, warm and welcoming with nice touches such as early access, tea, coffee, sugar, milk and cookies on arrival. Spotlessly clean throughout. Lovely garden area which will be fab during the dryer months.
- Emma (10/5): Comfortable and relaxing cottage in the forest with easy access to nearby attractions - Everything was perfect. The cottage is well thought out, beautifully decorated and comfortable. The instructions for arrival are easy to follow, and there were nice extra touches such as lights left on for arrival in the dark and treats for the dog. We had a wonderful short break and would come back to stay for longer.
- Mark (9/5): Superb - A Lovely old building with very comfortable beds in a brilliant location. Thoughtful touches by host and a lovely fire. Much appreciated. Heater in conservatory/kitchen not working. The Temperature was freezing while we were there and this area was uncomfortable due to this. There is no door from this room into the living room so the draught was quite bad. Luckily the real fire was there.
- Valerie (9/5): Superb - Lovely cottage very near nature reserve , road at the front of the cottage a bit busy and tricky to get into but we did find some parking at the rear of property
- Adam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicola (9/5): Really lovely we’ll equipped cottage, perfect for weekend away. - Lights were on when we arrived making it feel very welcoming. Wood burner was lovely in evening making it cosy and warm. It was all good.
- Robert (9/5): Superb - Wonderful cottage spotlessly clean. Great location with easy access to all the Forest of Dean has to offer. Two lovely pubs just minutes away with great food.
Cottage has all the facilities you need excellent power shower and comfy beds, very cosy. Host provided milk coffee tea etc which was very kind and kitchen is well equipped. Would definitely stay again.
Thanks you for a wonderful stay.
- Lorraine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mears (8/5): Very good - A very comfortable cottage to relax for the evening.
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Debra (10/5): Very comfortable stay and would highly recommend. - Very comfortable and spotlessly clean cottage .
Great that both bedrooms have en suites and the lounge had adequate comfortable seats for us all .
Great garden area and location to the forest from directly behind the cottage . We liked everything . Just a suggestion , two of the kitchen chairs were more comfortable than the other two !!
- Nicholas (10/5): Ace cottage in the Forest of Dean - Great location in the forest. Great facilities. Owner split up the top bedroom into a twin for our kids. Lovely garden, with great outside area for the summer. Lovely 500m walk along the old railway line behind the house, to get to the Woodman pub; which had delicious food and good beer. Dig friendly. Nothing
- Alison (9/5): Comfortable cottage surrounded by beautiful forest - A super-comfortable and very clean cottage. Wonderful location - walking and cycling into the forest (6 km to Cannop Cycle Centre on the easy cycle paths). Close to Parkend for shop/post office/cafe - you can even walk or cycle down the disused railway. Having 2 separate ‘bedroom suites’ is ideal. Well equipped and very well thought out. The garden area is lovely to sit out in. Parking for 1 car at the front - and room for 2 more at the back. Excellent WiFi (no mobile signal in the cottage). We will definitely be back. Yes, the road is busy throughout the day, but very quiet at night. Wouldn’t stop us returning.
