Guest Reviews
- L (10/5): Amazing property, Amazing Host, Amazing value!! - Lucie, the host was Amazing!! She was attentive but not intrusive. She fulfilled every request.
I stayed in two different locations on this property and both were excellent however, the views from Cashew House were The Best!! and the solitude + nature sounds was a massive bonus!! There is not a lot to speak about not liking. The property is a work of love in progress. The host personality and attentiveness made up for any small items that I may have wanted.
- Annemiek (8/5): Very good - Lucie was super welcoming and I loved her passion for helping out rescue dogs in Sri Lanka.
We were accompanied by at least 2 dogs at all times 💕
Lucie helped with booking a taxi for us multiple times and was easy to reach.
The house is clean and the bed comfortable, however there were a lot of mosquitoes in the house. Luckily there were plenty of supplies to protect yourself, and being in the forest close to a lake it might be expected but it was one of the places where we had the most mosquitoes.
When booking make sure to check which apartment you get as there seem to be two. We stayed in the newest one which needs a bit of work still (though it has all the important commodities) but I’m pretty sure that in time they will make it a lovely place to stay. It wasn’t a problem for us as we were there to attend a wedding nearby, but it can sometimes be a bit confusing on booking.com to see what you actually are booking.
Overall a great stay when in ahangama!
- Jeanne (10/5): Exceptional - Such a lovely stay , lovely people
Beautiful in nature
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional - We loved our stay at Hello Homestay! Lucie and Lahiru are such welcoming and genuinely kind hosts. The work they put into renovating their home, with attention to detail and reusing natural materials. The place felt like a home away from home! Their dogs are super friendly, too. And Lahiru's cooking skills are out of this world. Thank you for hosting us!
- Claire (10/5): Exceptional - We had the pleasure of staying at Hello Homestay, during our recent trip to Sri Lanka.
Lucie and Lahiru are the most perfect hosts! The property is situated within the jungle offering peace and tranquility and yet only a short drive from the most perfect beaches, restaurants, bars and shops.
Waking up to the sound of the monkeys playing in the trees and the exotic birds singing was absolutely mind blowing, the evenings were a time to reflect and enjoy the peace and quiet, watching the fire flies light up the night skies was mesmerising .
The bed is huge and so comfortable, a good nights sleep is guaranteed. There is a fully equipped kitchen to self cater or request the services of Lahiru to cook for you, more on that later.
The bathroom is lovely and has a wonderful hot power shower which is quite hard to find in Sri Lanka! also in the bathroom is a washing machine which was a lovely added feature.
Lucie and Lahiru were so amazing at making our stay enjoyable, they offered so much advise on places to visit and experiences to enjoy whilst staying in the area.
Breakfast was extremely good and varied and kept us full until the evening. Lahiru will cook for you in the evening if requested and I would highly recommend this, his cooking skills are phenomenal, he is an amazing chef, and would go far on master chef! We sampled some of the most delicious curries we have ever tasted, we still crave them after returning home to the UK.
Another highlight to this amazing homestay is the family dogs, they are the most incredible dogs ever and we got to know and fall in love with each and everyone during out stay, so friendly and always on hand to give you a welcome cuddle. I would highly recommend this homestay and will definitely be returning. Nothing, the place is perfect.
- Olivia (10/5): Feel the love! - Lucie and Lahiru are wonderful hosts. I was offered a welcome drink from organic fruit from their own garden and served a delicious, plant-based homemade Sri Lankan breakfast in the morning.
The newly renovated house has a homely feel, the lofty bedroom is spacious and very comfortable and there’s a private bathroom with hot shower and washing machine.
Many of the building’s old materials have been repurposed in the new build and Lucie and Lahiru are also otherwise invested in sustainability and ethical tourism.
Their house is surrounded by nature and their dogs are super cute and friendly (and can be locked away from guests if required). From the balcony you even get a glimpse of the lake. Perfect if you want to escape the hustle and wind down. I look forward to returning soon!
