Guest Reviews
- Helen (8/5): Two splendid nights - It's a beautiful building, and our host could not have been kinder or more welcoming. My little dog felt very at home too. As a single traveller, I hate how single rooms always have single beds. They always make me feel like a child. The room was charming, however, it's just an observation.
- Alison (10/5): Fabulous weekend in a fabulous hotel. - Ken was a fabulous host. The breakfast was amazing. Loved the hotel, the building was beautiful. Loved the vintage cups and saucers. Loved my coddled eggs for breakfast. Loved the homemade tea cosies. A fabulous weekend away. nothing.
- Gloria (4/5): More BAD than GOOD - Whilst we enjoyed our stay at Dolforwyn Hall we did not appreciate being overcharged by £175 for our accommodation.
It took from 18th May until 7th June to get the owner to refund us. We were prepared to pursue this matter through the Small Claims Court if we had not received the refund by 9th June.
Be very careful about making a booking at this hotel. See above about the difficulty getting a refund.
- Mike (10/5): Exceptional - Have stayed here before, and always enjoy coming back. A beautiful house in a lovely location situated away from the main road, so is nice and quiet.
Beautiful comfortable rooms, and a great cooked breakfast.
- Michael (9/5): What a little Gem we have found -
- Stuart (9/5): A relaxing location perfect for us to come and go for the weekend - Quiet and peaceful Nothing
- Greg (10/5): Fuss free, comfortable, quiet, good location. - Very pleasant atmosphere, excellent breakfast, charming host. Not a lot
- Ifor (9/5): Simply a great break which the Dolforwyn was a big part of. - Great location for Mid Wales touring. Great breakfast and owner friendly and helpful. There was any thing that I didn't like.
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maya (9/5): A lovely hotel! I hope to go there again. - The owner/manager was very, very helpful. The food was well cooked, well presented and tasty. We were able to get a3-course breakfast and an evening meal (2 or 3 courses).
The beds were very comfortable. The "wardrobe facilities" were easily accessible, with enough coat-hangers and of good quality. The views from the windows were very pleasant.
The hotel was well situated, with easy access to the castles and towns we wanted to visit. Easy parking, close to the hotel entrance. The showers were difficult for us. One cubicle was rather small and the other had an American-style shower (i.e. fixed shower head).
- Ainsley (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (9/5): Superb -
- Lori (10/5): Beautiful setting with lovely historic touches throughout the house. The hosts are first-rate. - Beautiful setting with lovely historic touches throughout the house. The hosts are first-rate
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Roni (6/5): I enjoyed to location and the leisurely atmosphere. I found it rather quiet which had advantages, . - I liked the location and the terrace. The hosts were very kind and helpful.. I did not like the gloomy room with no proper window. I felt I was in a cellar or cave.
- Carol (10/5): Perfect for a relaxing break, warm welcome in a delightful setting. - Breakfast and dinner were excellent, the welcome was lovely, nothing seemed too much trouble. Such nice folk. To hear about their sympathetic care of such a special property and respect for it's history was really good. Can't think of anything to improve on.
- Keith (8/5): Nice relaxed stay in besutiful countryside - Character with collection of ceramics and antiques
Good position eith views
- Mick (8/5): Very good - Lovely breakfast, great host.
- Mike (8/5): Superb - Lovely place to stay. Fabulous breakfast, the owner is very accommodating.
Rooms are clean and tidy. No evening meals, but local pub 'The Abermule' is very good and is only a 20 minute walk away.
- Anthony (10/5): Amazing b and b, great hosts, great breakfast and an absolutely stunning accommodation. - Wow. What a B and B. The breakfast room and lounge areas - have never stayed at a b and b with such character , history associated with it and the hosts could not do enough to make my stay any more pleasant.
Bedroom was lovely and again had character and great facilities. Could not be more comfier.
Sumptuous breakfast and the area and grounds around the accommodation amazing. Again what an amazing b and b to stay at. Nothing.
- Margaret (9/5): a comfortable place to stay with a very good breakfast - we had a comfortable room, small but clean bathroom, very good breakfast and a helpful host. Situated with great views we very much enjoyed our stay.
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Joseph (10/5): Excellent and characterful location with wonderful owners who really care about their guests - Lovely character hotel within beautiful countryside surroundings - everything about this hotel delivers old world charm. It's so refreshing to stay in an independent establishment after years of travelling on business in Hilton/Hyatt/Sofitel etc. The owners were lovely people - very passionate about the hotel and the area it's in. They also cook up an excellent eggs benedict! I was there for a wedding up the road and the owner was kind enough to offer me a lift THERE and BACK again in the evening. It's things like this that not only restore your faith in humanity but make for an excellent stay in a beautiful part of the country. Thank you for an excellent stay. Nothing negative to say
- Elaine (10/5): A delightful place to stay and visit family - Comfortable, relaxed , excellent breakfast . Great welcome from a host .

- Thersa (9/5): Very enjoyable stay stunning views and location. - Great location breakfast to die for. Ken and Sarah were great hosts. Shame about not having a chef.
- Lynn (8/5): Excellent tranquil Gem - Excellent breakfast, home made bread and scones , luxury fruit salad and very good choice of various breakfasts Bathroom is a little tired , but has everything you need. Bathrooms are the next thing to be done
- Accounts (8/5): Very good -
- Patricia (8/5): very pleasant and relaxing. - property of great character and history.
Host Ken was very accommodating and welcoming. regrettably there was no chef for a long awaited dinner after a 7hr drive! However Ken came up with a more than acceptable meal with good wine!
- Graham (8/5): Great place to stay in mid Wales. - Great location, nice and peaceful but within easy reach of various attractions. The owners are excellent being very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The room was nicely decorated and comfortable with all the features required. Top notch breakfast with very good quality food and plenty of it. A good variety was on offer and the ability to taylor the breakfast to your requirements was nice. The hotel has a couple of lounges which were nice to sit and relax in. There are also some very nice outside seating areas. Bathrooms could do with a refurbish but I understand plans are in place to do this.
- Peter (10/5): Fantastic renovated character period property in a peaceful location - Our hosts, Ken and Lisa, were always on hand with help and advice attending to all our needs. A stunning property, spotlessly clean as were our rooms which were very comfortable. An excellent breakfast which set me up for the day. Nothing
- Bea (9/5): Will come back - Owners are nice and friendly with a good sense of humour. We really loved the atmosphere in the mansion.
Unfortunately, it was raining. Otherwise, we would have hung out on the outside terrace with a beautiful view. Stayed in the bar instead, enjoying some nice single malts and having a chat with other guests.
They serve a good breakfast also. Can’t think of anything.
- Nigel (9/5): Fantastic omelettes and food -
- John (5/5): the weather was good,so Powis castle was a good place to visit. There was no restaurant as dedcribed - the views were glorious only one face towel between us,and that was poor quality. very poor refreshment in bedroom.tttt
- Sara (9/5): Lovely stay in a great location - My room was well equipped with pretty much everything you need for a short stay; good selection of tea/coffee, a decent shower which was nice and hot in the morning, and comfortable double bed.
A lot of thought had gone into the decor, this particular room had a purple theme and it just so happens that this is my favourite colour, so that was great..and the crockery was unusual with interesting angled spoons.
My Dad had one of the single rooms and we both enjoyed the breakfasts with both continental and cooked options available. I especially enjoyed the pancakes which I had on Sunday, these were freshly cooked and were brought out very quickly.
Ken, the host graciously put up with me arriving late on the Friday night after a long journey from Sussex, and was very hospitable to the rest of our family who turned up the next day hoping for some afternoon tea! We sat out on the terrace; we were celebrating various birthdays and Ken produced some added extras which was a nice touch and appreciated by all of us. It helped to make it a memorable occasion, albeit a bit like the mad hatter's tea party...
Thanks to all the team at Dolforwyn for a very enjoyable stay! As this is a historic property there are sash windows in the rooms - with the weather being hot I wanted to open the window but it proved quite tricky to do. I did intend to ask about it and what was the best way to do it, but forgot about it during the day - perhaps some sort of instructions could be put in the rooms to help with this.
- Stephanie (10/5): Exceptional - Great host, lovely surroundings. Lovely views from room. Will definitely be returning 😊 Nothing we didn't like.
- Geoffrey (10/5): An excellent, relaxing week in an attractive area staying at a special hotel with accommodating staff. - It’s history, it’s location. Nothing in particular.
- Ceri (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (9/5): Lovely setting, warm hospitality, attentive innkeepers make Dolforwyn an excellent choice. - Quaint and tucked away in a lovely country setting, Dolforwyn hall is an escape away from the bustle of town and work. Wonderful walking trails nearby, comfortable rooms, and beautiful views are all good, but the warm hospitality and welcome of the innkeepers is what really makes the stay worth repeating. Rooms are slightly dated but comfortable and just fine!
- Ceridwen (8/5): Good value, excellent host, lovely location, very good accommodating for allergies, pet friendly - Excellent breakfast, very comfortable beds, and a very helpful host Needs a little updating
- Mike (9/5): A great place to stay, with an awesome breakfast. - Fabulous rooms, interesting old place with lots of history, great breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble. It's worth taking the walk up to the castle ruins, very interesting and great views. Unfortunately evening meals were not available when we stayed, but there is a good pub in the village.
- Christopher (9/5): First rate old style comfort. - This is an interesting historic property with ample, very comfortable sitting rooms. It was a delight to be served tea In really good china and to be made to feel more like a houseguest on a small country estate than a hotel resident.
The kitchen is officially closed pending the arrival of a new chief, but it was opened, obligingly, because I did not want to go out and provided me with excellent, tasty dinners.
A most enjoyable stay. The hot water took a while to come through, but was fine after two or three minutes.
- Robin (10/5): Exceptional - Ken was the nicest hotel host! He welcomed us straight away and would do anything for us, including driving us back and forth to a wedding we were going to. The hotel is beautiful and the breakfast amazing.
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kimaya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Judith (10/5): Great place to stay - Fabulous country house hotel in great location with lots of history and every comfort
- Dan (9/5): Superb -
- Cerianne (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Wish was bit closer to towns
- Janet (9/5): Really nice and relaxing. - The breakfast was excellent nothing was too much trouble. The location was lovely. Yes the over bath shower. My husband couldn't use it. However we didn't specify a room with a walk in shower.
- Steve (9/5): Superb - The owner made us very welcome and assisted us with every need.
- Lucy (8/5): Friendly and welcoming place, clean and well run, the breakfasts were excellent, we would go back. - Charming house with great view
- William (9/5): A very pleasant short stay in Powys. - The hotel itself is a beautiful old building with a lot of history attached to it, (some of the artefacts in the dining room are testimony to this).
The cooked breakfasts were very good and served on nice hot plates which makes a change to some places where the plates are cold! Because there was no chef when we were staying there we couldn't have dinner in the hotel although Ken very kindly did do us a salad on our first night there to save us from going out. We understand that a new chef is starting in September so this issue should be resolved then.
The cups on the hospitality tray in the bedroom were rather on the small side!
- Leonard (8/5): A very good "Host:" who is working hard to establish his business. - Excellent breakfast.
A lovely location in a 1545 Manor Houseb Because of staffing shortages Dinner could not be served and we had to go out. Apparently a Chef is coming.
- Richard (7/5): Good -
- Case (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (8/5): Very pleasant long weekend stay in a good location out of town good for motorcycle touring. -
