Guest Reviews
- Julie (10/5): Peaceful escape - Everything. No wifi, complete solitude, waking to seeing bunnies, Squirrels, ducks, and other wildlife outside the window, plus, watching them all emerge in the evening to play.
The space and comfort in the shepherds hut and the spacious decking in which to sit and enjoy the wildlife, read, have dinner and a local glass of something.
Also, Roger and Jackie (hosts), two of the loveliest people you will ever meet. We didn't like leaving as we loved our stay so much.
- Jim (10/5): Just a short break to get away from it all , done exactly that - For a shepherd’s hut wasn’t expecting such spacious accommodation . Was very clean and had everything you needed
- Kayleigh (10/5): -
- Chelsea (10/5): - This place was a gem to find. The location is so peaceful we were lucky enough to have the whole place to ourselves. The hosts were so accommodating & the huts have everything you need. Local pub a few minutes walk where the food was beautiful & local town approx 10-15 min walk. Would highly recommend & stay again! Also the bed & bedding is soo comfortable!! No negatives only that we only stayed one night! Could have stayed longer!
- Kay (9/5): Really lovely stay, great setting, excellent pub just round the corner and wonderful hosts. Will definitely be back ! - Beautiful setting and lovely hosts, the shepherds hut was perfect.
A great escape from the bustle of the world. Rabbits, ducks and wildlife were a treat .. spotless and cosy.. Nothing , it was fabulous

- Rebecca (9/5): We loved staying at Squirrels Oaks and will definitely be back! - Really friendly & helpful hosts, the property was more spacious than expected, comfortable and clean. Great shower! The setting is lovely and it's a short walk to the pub! Provision for wifi, there is no phone signal at all in the property.
- Bess (8/5): A good spot for a night or two away, would be good for a group too. - Very comfortable with lots of room, all the pots and pans etc you’d want and a nice terrace to sit on. Hosts were friendly and the village pub was just right for dinner.
- Andy (9/5): amazing -

- Nancy (10/5): We really enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend it to others. - We had a lovely stay at the Shepherd’s Hut at Squirrel Oaks. The hosts are a really nice couple and made us feel very welcome. The place itself is beautiful, cosy, and well looked after—perfect for a peaceful getaway.
There’s no Wi-Fi, which was actually lovely as it helped us properly switch off. Mobile signal can be reached about 3–4 minutes from the hut by the gate. My partner is on Three and had signal inside the hut, while I’m on O2 and didn’t have signal in the hut but did once I walked up to the gate. Nothing
- Charlotte (3/5): A lovely location and hut, but poor communication and a very stressful check-in let the stay down. - The location and hut was nice. We arrived at 4pm during the stated check-in time and waited over an hour with no response. We called multiple times and could hear the phone ringing inside the house. When the host eventually arrived, they said they hadn’t realised we were staying and had been in London. There was no apology.
When we were shown to the hut, it was very cold as the heating hadn’t been turned on in advance. Although the hut itself was nice and the area is lovely, the experience was disappointing. We had travelled two hours to get there and were left unsure whether to wait or go home. We also had our dogs in the car during this time, which made the situation stressful.
- Zammit (10/5): Great Stay - The site is small only 3 Shepheard Huts but fantastic, it is more of a retreat site from daily life. The accommodation has everything one will need for a comfortable stay including table and chairs outside on the decking. Outside space centres around a large pond with areas to sit and chill. Towards the back of the site there is a BBQ area and past that one can sit watching the river flow with an abundance of Squirrels, rabbits and a few chickens roaming about. Although we enjoyed the seclusion away from social media, wi-fi etc due to a very poor mobile signal in the area if we needed to make a call we had to go into the village where mobile signal is better.
- Elizaveta (10/5): Unforgettable stay in a stunning wooden cabin — everything was perfect! - We stayed here for my birthday night, and it couldn’t have been more perfect! The little wooden hut was absolutely beautiful — cozy, clean, and smelled amazing, like fresh wood. Everything felt brand new, from the spotless bathroom to the comfy bed.
The area around is huge and peaceful, we were lucky to have the whole place to ourselves. The host was super friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. We even got to do a barbecue, which made the evening even more special.
Our little dog Arnold had the time of his life running around the field — it’s a great place if you’re traveling with pets.
Honestly, it was one of the best birthday getaways we’ve ever had. Highly recommend this place to anyone who loves nature, comfort, and a bit of quiet luxury.

- Callum (10/5): - The cabin was absolutely lovely. The little pond added to the surroundings nicely. There's plenty of space and greenery away from the connecting village. The owners were lovely and welcoming, all round an amazing little stay! Not a bad thing or a problem but there was no signal for us inside the cabin and with no WiFi it provided a nice disconnect, however this might not be for everyone. Just remember you're outdoors so there's always a chance of bugs and insects around - again not a bad thing, I have nothing bad to say!
- Laura (10/5): Brilliant gem of a place to unwind - We loved everything about the place the couple that run it are super sweet you feel totally at peace great place to unwind the dogs had a blast none of us wanted to leave we've come home and booked again Nothing to dislike, but going home
- Nicola (9/5): Lovely little get away from the hustle and bustle - Lovely little cabin, with well equipped kitchen. Quite a lot of cobwebs and spiders on the ceiling (I appreciate, given the location it could be tricky to deal with)
- Zoe (10/5): - Lovely cabin, perfect location. Will definitely be returning
- Kay (10/5): Perfect Pitstop on the way home from Dover. - A lot bigger than I expected. Absolutely beautiful setting with a pond to look over and a stream beyond the trees.
I was surprised to see there were 3 of them. 2 are dog friendly with kennels too. The other is for people with allergies to dogs.
Squirrels and rabbits running about and lots of birds with a bird table too.
The inside.. Cute and everything you need. I don't like showers and almost always have a bath, however, the showers here could actually convert me.
Very clean and a super comfy bed. 👌
We had our evening meal in the 15th century inn named the chequers just up the road. ( turn right out of the gates).
There are other pubs close by. The Bull and the boathouse. The boathouse is thatched.
We had our morning coffee on the decking listening to the birds. Pure bliss. There was nothing i didnt like.
- Louisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jas (8/5): Very good -
- Lesley (10/5): Perfection is all I can say - Perfect in every way. Location, facilities, cleanliness all absolutely first class Nothing
- Joe (10/5): Worth a stay - Everything, peace and quite lovely location and good pub a few min walk away for dinner and drinks if that floats your boat There’s no phone signal but that’s not a issue if you want pure peace
- Jessica (9/5): Superb - Had everything we needed for a short stay. Beautiful wildlife all around.
- Amber (10/5): Great escape - Very relaxing getaway. Complete escapism with no internet. Good enough kitchen facilities to cook a simple meal and loads of pubs with food within a short drive Nothing
- Aaron (9/5): Really enjoyed our stay. Was a really chilled evening, and a peaceful morning. Would highly recommend and would definite - Fully equipped unit for a short stay. Clean and well presented. Bed was lovely & cosy. So peaceful and quiet with rabbits running around. Local pubs and shops close by. Bread, butter and milk was a nice touch. Lack of privacy in the WC. Although we found seeing feet through the bottom of the curtain fairly amusing.
- Steve (10/5): A beautiful, calm night away with my partner. Highly recommend for a child-free weekend! - It was so peaceful, and in such a beautiful, quiet location. Having a warm, friendly pub 4 minutes walk away is handy too!
A special mention to the hosts - fresh bread, butter and milk on arrival, a snuggly blanket and hot water bottle too.
Oh and the bed is SO comfy! Lack of WiFi, but we actually quite liked it!
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional - Very spacious and comfortable in a very serene location. Would definitely book again
- Rachel (8/5): Relaxing stay - Lovely accommodation, lovely host and dog friendly
- Kieran (10/5): Amazing 👌 - It was a very nice stay over would recommend 100% Is out the way
- Jack (10/5): Exceptional -
- Graham (8/5): Very good -
- Mark (10/5): Lovely location for what we needed and awesome accommodation. - Really personable and lovely location. Very clean with all the household equipment you need. Nothing, was lovely.
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely countryside venue.
- Mark (9/5): Superb - Nice double shower, comfortable bed and cleanliness No phone signal
- Milner (10/5): Relaxing, recharging and rehabilitation retreat which is perfect if you need to power down for a few days. - Warm, clean, self contained, dog friendly, everything you needed was there and I personally enjoyed not being able to be on my phone all the time - it was bliss. Nothing, a slightly more formal parking area would be perhaps slightly more helpful if all three huts were in use but it was fantastic will be going back in the future for sure.
- Paula (8/5): Very good -
- Alan (9/5): Beautiful secluded accommodation, very much exceeded expectations. - Perfectly appointed shepherd hut type accommodation set in a beautiful plot of land with a lovely duck pond.
The bed and bedding was incredibly comfortable. Definitely exceeded my expectations.
The hosts were very welcoming. Roger even took me a couple of miles down the road to the party that I was attending ... so kind! Nothing tbh.
- Cindy (9/5): Fantastic peaceful break! - Lovely hideaway with absolutely no signal or WiFi so you have to switch off (literally) and have a peaceful break Everything you could possibly need is in the cabin. The local area is stunning and we enjoyed a lovely walk alongside the River Medway to the Boathouse for dinner. Will definitely return.
- Corinne (9/5): Perfect - We were extremely happy with everything. The cabin was very bright and clean.
The setting is rural but thats what we hoped for.
Lovely helpful owners. Cant fault it It was a little difficult to find as there is no internet
- Denise (9/5): Lovely place, very quiet and it was beautiful seeing all the wildlife. We will be back soon!!! - Loved the location,
cabin was very homely and very clean. Water could have been hotter in the shower as it was only coming out warm.
Bathroom could have done with a proper door rather than a curtain for privacy.
And lastly the kitchen could have done with a few more utensils for cooking.
- Lauren (10/5): Cosy, clean, and welcoming place to stay! We’re definitely going to stay again. - The location was quiet and it felt like a very welcoming, safe community with shops and pubs just around the corner. The owners were friendly and very helpful and clearly take a lot of pride in Squirrels-oaks!
We were very impressed at the cleanliness and it had everything you could want including pots and pans, hobs, and a microwave. We only stayed for one night but could easily have stayed for much longer as it felt like a little home. The bed was super comfy and we are already planning on going back for longer!
