• Nangamso (9/5): The perfect cottage stay - It's cozy and beautifully designed. The stove was a bit problematic to work with. I would like to have more mirrors in the cottage.

Municipal roads in Clarens are not very good but that’s not the hosts’ fault. Beds were comfortable though the upstairs mezzanine room would not suit someone who is nervous of heights. The rooms were well equipped and very clean. Smell of old cigarette smoke

• Ruzario (9/5): - The Host was amazing and very responsive.The place is beautiful and safe and provides all the amenities needed for a peaceful and private stay. We were also close to the shops which made the stay even more convenient. There was hair in an around the bathroom.

My husband asked for a bottle of wine, small packet of biscuits on the table, milk in the fridge and plunger coffee was a nice bonus. Because we stayed for 3 nights our bathroom got a bit dirty and there was nothing to clean it with.

• MERCY (10/5): - Walnut Cottage was the perfect overnight stop for our family on the way to Durban. The cottage is very well done, functional, and thoughtfully set up for a family, making it ideal for a comfortable night’s rest during our journey. The beds were comfortable and ensured a good night’s sleep, and the cottage itself is absolutely cute with a cozy, welcoming feel. Everything we needed was in place, making our short stay easy and stress-free. We truly wished we could have stayed longer to experience more of beautiful Clarens. We would happily return and highly recommend it to families passing through the area.

• Dania (9/5): Straight out of a storybook - An idyllic cottage in Clarens with very modern furnishings. The bed and pillows are comfortable. The layout of the place has been well thought out. It can get a little cold but there is ample heating provided. We loved our stay and would definitely visit again. The bath shower wasn’t ideal. I think the addition of another shower curtain would really improve the situation.

• Heinrich (10/5): Beautiful sandstone building opposite the mountains. Quiet. And away from the town square. - Beautiful garden and excellent view of the mountains. The induction stove (so easy and comfortable to use) and the gas-operated fire place; warmed up the property (especially the loft) great. Quietness (ok, we are from Joburg and stays next to busy highway. so this might be a relative view), although the main road (Harrismith/Fouriesburg - Bethlehem) is close by (the tall trees might contribute to the quietness), the traffic dies down significantly after 10...perhaps sooner we did not notice. If you are an active person you will love the location; a nice stroll to town centre via either the scenic backstreets or via the principal road (a bit less scenic). Can't think of anything.

• MCvdM (9/5): - Beautifully decorated, quaint, pet friendly cottage. The fence around the cottage is well-maintained so our fur babies couldn't get out. The cottage had everything we needed for the weekend (even an air fryer and a hair dryer!) and the hosts were very helpful and friendly.
• Candice (10/5): The most comfortable stay in Clarens. I would recommend this cottage over and over again - What a beautiful cottage. From the decoration to the facilities and the comfy bed. You can see no expense was spared to set this cottage up. I can’t recommend this cottage enough. We will be back for sure
• Ribeiro (9/5): Our experience was unforgettable; we will definitely return. - The modern style and sophistication of the unit as well as the available amenities. I appreciated the fact that the hosts provided tea, coffee, milk etc as well as basic toiletries of which were all of good quality and taste. I think the hosts should consider a tabletop oven, although an air fryer and snappy chef are available, we found the air fryer a bit small for grilling larger cuts of meat, especially if one doesn't want to braai.

It was very cold weather (not the owner’s fault, of course!) but the gas fireplace doesn’t really heat the cottage up. At least the electric blankets kept us warm while we were sleeping!

• Chelsea (10/5): Amazing facilities, amazing location and such a comfortable stay! - Awesome location and super affordable for what you get. A 10 minute walk from the town square. The host is super helpful and communicative, and she sent us lots of recommendations for events happening in the town. We had a light malfunction in the bathroom and it was fixed the next day when we got home. Overall an amazing and relaxing stay! Not much! Only notes we have is some more dustbin bags and some basic condiments such as tomato sauce & oil for cooking.

• David (10/5): Perfect stay in Clarens - A lovely cottage just outside town a few minutes drive from the main square.,Great attention to interior detail,with modern amenities & everything you need for a self catering stay ,even some treats provided for our dog.Fully fenced property and safe.Extra milk and waters provided in the fridge . The weekend of our stay was quite hot ,perhaps an interior fan as a suggestion to cool things down a bit..but regardless of this -it did not spoil the visit in any way.Will definately return.

• Cheryl (10/5): We loved our visit to Walnut Cottage and Clarens, definitely hope to return again one day. - This is an absolutely beautiful open plan cottage with a double bed in the living area and twin beds on the mezzanine above. It is fully equipped for all cooking needs including a Braai. The bathroom is extremely well appointed with bath, loo and basin and offers plenty of hot water via a gas hot water system. I absolutely loved this place, but would have appreciated a mirror to use when drying my hair, even if it was in the cupboard. A very special visit, thank you Ron!
• Laura (7/5): Lovely chalet style cottage which will be ideal with the addition of a shower. - Ron and Hanli are excellent hosts and have created a lovely chalet cottage. They were open and acted on our suggestions to make the cottage more comfortable. The garden is fully enclosed which allowed our dog to roam free. When they change the bathroom to incorporate a shower, this will be an ideal place to stay when visiting Clarens. The stairs to the mezzanine are very steep and would not be suitable for young children. There were issues with hot water however a plumber was engaged to resolve this. The bath had no facility to allow the washing of hair or rinsing of body. The owners plan to rectify this by installing a shower.
• Ignette (10/5): Little gem among the stones - The house is kitted out with the finest of things. Even the dog bed is luxurious. The whole place is impeccably clean and the owners live right next door which makes resolving any issues, not that we had any, very easy. The bed faces a large window which makes sleeping in rather challenging.
