Guest Reviews
- Ingersoll (9/5): Comfy and Cozy - I loved the aesthetic and ambiance. I loved that it felt homey and old timey. The hosts were attentive ahead of our stay. I really loved the kitchen. I arrived very late and left pretty early, no staff was there that I was aware of, but I loved walking around and pointing at the cute features of the hotel. My boyfriend thought it was "creepy" at night but he doesn't understand the whimsy. I loved it.
The bed was soft, albeit a bit small. I believe it was a full sized bed for me and my 6'4" boyfriend, but it was comfy. I wish during our stay that the kitchen was staffed for the morning, however I think it was only me and one other person staying at the hotel. The dining area was so so cute I wanted to eat breakfast by the big windows.
There was a self serving coffee station but no available coffee pods. :(
I didn't need to use the facilities during my stay, but I imagine if I was staying longer, and other people were staying at the hotel, I wouldn't have preferred a shared shower space but some people might love the experience!
- MARCUS (7/5): I would love to come back and help fix the sauna and chill - love the jacuzzi tube, love the books and history and able to walk out to the bay no breakfast, would have love it if the Sauna worked, then it would have been epic
Use of the kitchen would have been fantastic I would have mad beacon eggs and pancakes
- Mathew (4/5): - The lady that called me after check seemed judgmental. And the camera was outside my window and she kept waking me up talking through the camera to people all hours of the night. Told us we had to be quiet when entering the establishment but get woke up at 1 am to other patrons being loud and stomping around and the camera voice talking to the other patrons

- WILLIAM (8/5): - A quirky, special hotel in a beautiful place.
- Annette (5/5): - It felt like The Shining
- Brian (10/5): Relaxing, quiet, clean, and conveniently located close to the beach, bay, stores and restaurants. - Quiet and a very nice room. The property and the view was very nice. It had a large dining area. Rooms do not have a TV.
- Royal (8/5): I had a great visit and would stay here again - very clean and quaint. the staff was nice and the location perfect for my event not a big deal but the bed creaked a lot
- Mark (9/5): - Great location and rooms with character. The rain !
- Shyn (10/5): - The relaxed energy of this beautiful land brought our souls and psyches much needed peace and comfort.
We we able to offer ourselves moments of meditation, time to work on our novel, completion of a small puzzle, and a tiny work of art.
Being a guest here reminds you that community is found in the places created with care, passion, and a desire to foster connection.
Thanks MobyDick.
- Helen (8/5): A quiet, comfortable countryside hotel with genuine period character and a great value. - The eclectic restored building stuffed with books, antiques, and abundant windows appealed to me, as did the quiet out-of-town location. Small, one-of-a-kind, with property access to the bay and a 1-mile drive to the Pacific shore, and deer and bunnies wandering through the yard. The Moby Dick exceeded my expectations in terms of comfort, and it was sparkling clean. I look forward to staying again. As a period restoration, there are some inconveniences built in: no vanities (pedestal sinks), odd proportions, no a/c or in-room appliances, and all rooms are on the second floor. I was a little unsure about the shared bath (not all rooms have private baths), but it actually worked out just fine, particularly as there was a sink in my room. I would suggest a label on the door, however. The hotel is still quite new in its current life, so I expect there will be ongoing improvements.
- Will (7/5): Very happy to be at Moby Dick again after 20 years. Lovely place! - The hotel building itself is a lovely art deco style. Beds and baths are comfy and clean. The property is beautiful. There was no staff on the property, and I'd seen it in better days, so it seemed kind of lifeless.
- Kelly (3/5): Old but charming. Lots of potential if hosted. - Very old world charming. No staff, coffee in the dining area in the am would be nice. I had to buy a fan, the room was hot. I understand no TV, can hear everything, thin walls, even when there alone. No TV, no a/c. All rooms upstairs.
- Sarah (9/5): I highly recommend this comfortable, clean, safe, and affordable hotel! - This was such a nice, quiet, and comfortable place to stay. The room was cozy and clean, the property was beautiful, and the owner and manager were both incredibly kind, responsive, and totally on top of things.
The hotel is in an old building and has a kind of historic charm. There aren’t any TVs in the building or rooms, which was honestly a really nice break. They do have WiFi, so no issues with internet connectivity. There is a shared microwave, fridge, and coffee maker (k-cups provided), which was perfectly sufficient, and access to fridge space and coffee in the morning was never a problem.
The hotel is right on the bay and a long walk to the beach (2-3 minute drive). It’s relatively isolated, and I never had any problems or concerns about my personal safety or the security of my belongings. It’s a little ways away from the larger town of Long Beach, but there are still some cafes, restaurants, groceries, and other conveniences right there in Ocean Park. It’s also about 45 minutes away from Astoria, OR which is a really cool town to visit.
The owner was super personable and very reasonably accommodating.
I had a really wonderful experience staying here. Everything has upsides and downsides.
Since this is an old building, there were a few cobwebs here and there - but otherwise everything was very clean. Old pipes meant the toilet was a little bit finicky, but one just has to hold the handle down for a few seconds and it will inevitably flush without any real issue.
Being far away from everything also has its pros and cons, and though I thoroughly appreciated the peace and quiet, the 15-20 minute drive to the nearest restaurant, gas station, or grocery store open later than 8 PM is a slight inconvenience. Dollar General is the exception and is just a minute or two down the road.
That said, with everything taken into account, the pros far, far outweigh the cons, and I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a peaceful, comfortable, and affordable place to stay.
- Maria (7/5): Decent place with low prices. - They called to verify our arrival.Goreous surrounding. Convient and quite location. It felt like a B&B . Could not finish precheck-in as we did not know exact arrival time .Did not see staff at all(4 days ) . Leaving us short on towels and a bathroom fan that made a horrible sound .Super thin walls and one sink still had toothpaste from perious guest.
Reastaruant by appt. Only?
- Michael (9/5): Very pretty serene stay, clean and comfortable rooms. We will definitely enjoy staying here again. - We loved the quiet! The building is also very interesting and lovely. Thankfully we didn’t have to share our Jack and Jill bathroom while we were there😁
- Shannon (8/5): Adorable property - Great aesthetics- a great cozy home feeling with loads of books. Very quiet property and guests observed the quiet hours. Older building so the walls are thin- if you are a light sleeper with good hearing, you will know what everyone is doing in their rooms. Plan accordingly.
- Tom (8/5): Very good - The hotel was very charming. The owner and staff were friendly. The bed, for us, was very uncomfortable.
- Saisaketh (10/5): A wonderful stay at a picturesque historic hotel - The decoration of the hotel is incredible. It was nice to find all the little touches. I would definitely stay here again!
- Deeanna (1/5): Disappointed - The manager was nice and tried to be accommodating . The hotel was in a nice location if you're looking for more if a country setting. There was no staff and I had to speak with the manager through the video camera to check in. There were no tv's in the building. We were given only 1 set if towels for 2 of us to stay for 3 days.
- Larry (10/5): A little quiet time😊 - I loved that the property was quiet and surrounded by nature. I needed a respite for my soul. It was close to town so I could walk. There was nothing I didn’t like.
- Cindy (8/5): They gave a room to stay and they were very helpful if needed. They were working on getting the - I was happy and the owner was on the cleaner was on call for anything we needed and they were on the works and repairs of the building.I will be glade when they have everything done. They had a lot of books to read and some on history and I feel when they everything it will be very good. I loved the books and what they history of Native American's and I am Oneida one to help write the help write the constitution and never go the respect they deserve.
- Tews (10/5): Quaint, beautiful, and off the beaten path. - Quaint, beautiful, and off the beaten path. The Moby Dick hotel is a tucked away stay a few steps from the bay. We sat on the balcony and played music, studied in the cafe with coffee, and drove a few minutes up the peninsula for birdwatching and hiking. Very much looking forward to our return.
