Guest Reviews
- John (10/5): A private tiny home with a cozy bed, nice shower and fantastic location in the woods. Beautiful! - We stayed at Expedition Inn for 2 nights. It is a tiny house in the woods. It was wonderful. The door wall faces the woods so we ate outside on the patio. Very clean & cozy and everything in the place is new. I highly recommend this place instead of a hotel. It has a microwave and a refrigerator and a coffeemaker. I would have liked some plates and silverware . There were a few plastic forks & paper plates. We had our own silverware so for us it wasn’t a problem but that addition might be nice.
- Mary (10/5): Restful peaceful great location in clean cabin - Woods view in beautiful cabin Liked everything
- Marty (10/5): - The patio area was nice to sit at and enjoy a fire. There are plenty of wooded areas for privacy and dog walking. We enjoyed the clean, comfortable cabin. Our only negative was the sink situation was awkward as far as size of sink and faucet and lighting.
- Dean (10/5): - Nice clean, quiet, pet frendly cabin. Outdoor seating area worked well for morning coffee and relaxing by the fire in the evening. We enjoyed our stay.
- Connie (10/5): - Good notice ahead of code for easy check in, tidy room, ok amenities and firewood available. Wish sink was bigger to wash dishes, but it was quiet albeit a bit of traffic noise.
- Vicki (9/5): - Beautiful, quiet setting with trails in the forest. Separate cottages for privacy. Hangers for clothes need improvement. No sink in the bathroom, only in the kitchenette. Not a deal breaker...
- Fergison (10/5): -
- Mark (10/5): UP Hideaway Retreat - Great secluded getaway. Quiet and Peaceful. Comfortable room and amenities; WOULD DEFIN ITELY RETURN!
- Angel (10/5): Will return if fate allows - OMG - this place was wonderful. I loved opening the wall of windows and listening to nature. When I closed things up at night, was safe and snug.
- John (10/5): - The huts were clean, new, and well equipped. Nothing fancy, but done well. I'd return.
- Jonathan (10/5): Very clean and updated - Nice to be in the woods with 4 star amenities and cleanliness. Internet was spotty in hut 8 (furthest from office), but to be honest, it was nice to disconnect. However, that may be an issue for some folks.
- Stacey (10/5): - Great time here. Clean and neat. Has microwave and small fridge. Had nice coffee nook.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Enjoyed stay, great location with trails right outside, The city of Calumet was very cool also. Would highly recommend Expedition Inn.
- peter (8/5): - I thought the property was located in a great spot. It was very close to Calumet and also not far from Houghton. The ski trails would be awesome in the winter. Very peaceful. The Internet was spotty at best. We had a rain day and the TV would not work and our cell service was just ok. But that being said I really enjoyed the stay
- Erica (10/5): - Close enough to Houghton to travel back and forth, but far enough out to relax away from the city. Everything inside the cabin was clean and welcoming.
- baker (10/5): -
- jonathan (8/5): Nice cottage bag wifi - Great location for exploring the area. Calumet is the nicest town on the peninsula IMHO. Comfortable cottage and very clean. Problem is with the wifi system. Slow intermittent signal definitely can't work from home if you're staying here.
- sandra (10/5): Loved it - We loved it. Clean, quaint, quiet.
- Travis (10/5): - John was super helpful. Great cabin. Easy to find. Clean.
- Brent (10/5): - It is just cozy and organized, they think of everything. That is why we stay there over and over
- Melissa (10/5): - Very secluded, cute and modern.
- Dave (10/5): - A great getaway. We will be back.
- Katherine (10/5): - Loved the set up of the space. We will definitely be returning. The communication was fantastic as well.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely cabins in the woods near Calumet - These new, modern cottages are located just outside of Calumet in the woods. They are private, allowing beautiful views of the forest. The outdoor patios have a firepit - be sure to bring matches and fire starting materials. The compact kitchenette has a mini fridge and microwave, as well as a small sink shared with the bathroom. The decor is modern and comfortable, as is the bed. The unit was clean with sufficient towels and bedding.
- Rick (10/5): - The first thing one notices is how quiet and private these units are. The eight units are spaced far apart enough to give you the sense you are by yourself and not sharing the location. This is a benefit I seek when renting a place to stay. Once you enter the unit, the large deck doors and windows that open to the patio grab your attention. A great view of the woods begins and end your day via these windows and doors. One factor that decides a good stay from a great stay for me is the shower stall. Shower stalls that have the space of a coffin makes taking a shower a challenge, but the shower stall in these units are great, lots of space! Overall, this is a great place to stay, whether one wants to just relax and enjoy privacy or take part of the outdoor activities using the trails around the property, I would recommend staying here.
- JEFFERY (10/5): - loved the stay Top notch property.Would recommend to anyone
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful property, great location - Wonderful host, great location, lovely property - we had a blast! Our dogs were very comfortable there, too, and the dog wash was an added bonus! We will be back, next time with friends!
- Nicholas (10/5): - loved the cabin. the area in general was really nice. the sign makes it easily identifiable from the road. the setup inside and on the patio was perfect.
negatives: I never received an email or was contacted before check in. I had to text and then call twice to get the code for the door to get in 1 hour before arrival. that was stressful while making the drive up.
the bathroom could have been cleaner. hair and debris from previous renters.
- Julie (10/5): - Lovely modern cabin with nice amenities in a quaint wooded area. Our host, John, was friendly and helpful.
- Ron (10/5): - I grew up in this area. I thought it was the perfect place for me to feel like I was back in my home town and how the nature was as I remember it. Everything about the stay was simple, and very relaxing.
- Jennife (10/5): - Beautiful, simple property! Very clean easy to find. Highly recommend!
- Austin (10/5): - This is an almost new facility, everything was super clean and well-maintained. You have your own building so it's very private. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to get away from town and have a launch point for other adventures.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Interesting place and I am happy to have tried it but not sure we’d go back. I realize it’s in the woods (and it was beautiful to be there), but the cabin was quite buggy. Spiders, ants and miscellaneous other bugs all over the inside. Nicely decorated but could have used a king size bed option, a bigger sink and a bit more space for suitcases and such. Coded lock was wonky. It took a few tries to determine that it was necessary to pull the door towards you while working the lock in order to get the deadbolt in and out. A bit of communication about this would have been helpful. Otherwise, it was a clean, well-priced, convenient cabin for those who enjoy being close to nature!
- Lisa (10/5): - Absolutely loved our stay in cabin number 4 with my family. It was the perfect location for exploring the beautiful peninsula and made for a great home base. Loved that it was dog friendly.. the cement patio was great and fire pit helped keep the bugs away. Cabins are modern with big shower and hot water but are still so cozy… the glass sliding doors looking into the woods was key to feeling like you are alone in the woods. Kids enjoyed having the tv for down time in between our adventures too.
- Aaron (10/5): Perfect woodland retreat! - We loved our stay and had a great time, we mostly explored the area but enjoyed our time in the woods! The unit was clean and nicely furnished, the property is beautiful. We've already told all our friends how easy and fun this was.
- Tim (10/5): Exceptional - The location was excellent, and the owner was exceptional! Nothing
- Natasha (10/5): - Excellent accommodations for a couple! Clean, had everything we needed for a great time! Thank you!
- Aimee (10/5): - Clean, cute, and quiet cabins just outside of town. We will definitely stay again.
- Lata (10/5): Just as nice as ever. This is our fifth stay here! - Clean, comfy, friendly personnel. Love that it is right on the Swedetown ski trail
- Sheila (10/5): - The cabins at Expedition Inn make a great base camp for exploring the UP. Owner was extremely helpful as well as knowledgeable about the area.
- Mary (10/5): Great bear chase stay - Absolutely loved the place. It was perfectly suitable for us doing the great bear chase. Location was excellent.
Two things I would recommend to make it even better would be a grab bar in the shower. And the shower curtain could be washed.
- Hayley (10/5): - Was great! I wish I could’ve stayed longer!
- Claudio (10/5): Exceptional -
- deven (10/5): - The cabin was the perfect stay for enjoying the quiet and snowy up north woods. It’s walking distance to the snow show trails and short drive to mt Bohemia. We loved the proximity to calumet Main Street for good food and coffee. The cabin is modern and cozy. Would definitely reserve again!
- Lata (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the skiing on the Swedetown Trail right out the door!n
- Margaret (10/5): - Cute cabin - very quiet, amazing winter wonderland outside of huge windows.
- Matthew (10/5): - Property was amazing and exactly what we were looking for in a winter get away from the city
- Cheryl (10/5): - Our little cabin was just adorable and perfect for my boyfriend, myself and our boarder collie. It was very clean and I loved how secluded it was. We had a nice little fire in our fire pit on our second night there. We will definitely be back!
- Judith (10/5): It was as relaxing as camping, but more comfortable - The patio, fire pit, furniture and the seclusion in the woods Sink was too far back on the counter
- Mark (10/5): - Quiet, very private, easy to find, beautiful setting, trails right outside your door. Only downside is lack of cooking facilities such as a stove.
- Mindi (10/5): - What a wonderful dog friendly location. Everything was clean and well kept.
- cheryl (8/5): - I liked the privacy and how the property is nestled in the woods. Quiet stay 🙂
- Amanda (10/5): - We absolutely loved our stay. It was so nice to be able to travel with our dogs. We also got to enjoy the Northern lights from our fire on our final night. We will be back for another stay!
- Scott (8/5): - Dusty inside cabin. Debris on patio and an entrance door.
Had issues locking the door, with the code. Took several attempts to get it locked. Frustrating as hell!!!!
- Charles (10/5): Great place with the ability to enjoy a fire too! - We really enjoyed our stay. It was clean , almost new, and everything we needed. We enjoyed the fire pit with grill both nights of our stay and felt this was an important part of us choosing this accommodation. The kitchenette was not stocked to do any cooking so we bought plates and silverware. After letting the owner know of our need however, plates and silverware showed up the next morning!!
- Katy (10/5): - Very relaxing! Loved it all.
- Brent (10/5): - Great
- Denny (10/5): - Very nice setting- and very quiet!
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michelle (10/5): Wonderful Vacation - Cute clean and comfy. Remote yet close to facility’s Owner John very nice and helpful good people
- Robert (10/5): - Nice, affordable, private, and very clean modern cabins. Perfect as a base camp, 40 minutes from Copper Harbor. We enjoyed the mountain bike trails as well in Calumet, where the trail head is a short bike ride away from the cabin. I would highly recommend staying if you enjoy silent sports like cross country skiing, hiking, or mountain biking. the cabins are also a five-minute car ride to some great beaches on Lake Superior.
- Kevin (10/5): - Great location, quiet, virtually on the trails and pet friendly.
- Kevin (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (10/5): We felt like we were home right from the first day there. Very clean and lots of storage - From the moment we got there it felt like home
- Peter (10/5): Really liked the cabin in the wood, very quiet. -
- John (10/5): - This property is 5 star plus !! Modern studio style cabin, plenty of room from neighbors,,
Just outside of town for anything you may need, walking trail and c.c. ski trails on site,,
Communication from property outstanding,,I rolled in late Sunday,,with combination to door and walked into a cabin that didn’t have a spec of dust. Patio with table and chairs also raised fire pit/bbq. Personally I would ask to light up it was mid August when I was there the woods is your front yard. On site owner John is a local with a wealth of local knowledge and an answer to any question. This is the best place I have ever stayed in the U.P. ,,,5 star plus !!!
- Candace (10/5): - Modern, private, cozy and relaxing
- JEFFERY (10/5): - The property was new. The location was quiet and tranquil.
- ashley (8/5): Great little space - This was a great stay. It was clean, quiet and exactly what we needed after a long day of traveling and hiking the area. The bed was comfortable. I have two issues. The first was there was only one small sink in the room and this was sometimes hard to navigate with multiple people in the room. The second was the A/C while it appeared to be working, didn’t seem to keep up. But I would stay here again!
- Mandi (10/5): - Really cute little place to stay! Quiet with a nice little patio to enjoy a fire on at night. Would definitely recommend to anyone and I’d love to stay again next year!
- Molly (10/5): Exceptional -
- brett (10/5): - I thoroughly enjoyed staying here.
- Rachelle (10/5): We love the cabins and location and will come here again. - New modern cabins with kitchen and bathroom and tv and bed and a sofa-bed. The big window/sliding doors opening to a patio area with a fire pit and table with chairs gives a pleasant view of the surrounding wilderness. Very relaxing and private.
- Kristal (9/5): We stayed one night, cane in fairly late, but was easy to find, fairly private and surrounded in wild flowers. Would sta - We like the newness, the remoteness and privacy, self-check in, fire pit There were some beetle tyoe bugs coming from somewhere. We cleaned them up ourselves and didn’t let it bother us.
Also the sink was set too far back in the counter to brush teeth in without some effort
