Guest Reviews
- Karin Breijer (6/5): - Mooie omgeving.
Vriendelijke gastvrouw.
Mooi oud huis.
Prima ontbijt. Het 2 persoonsbed was klein. De grond liep af en het bed ook. Ik rolde er steeds bijna uit. Verder lag het bed zelf ook niet comfortabel.
- Stephen (6/5): Very comfortable and very friendly - Location is lovely and very quiet and very welcoming owner Nothing l
- Gigliola (6/5): La signora gentile - Immerso nel verde Un po di caos in giro difficile tenere pulito un posto cosi pieno di cose
- Jacqueline (10/5): -
- Michael (7/5): - Interesting eclectic cottage down a very quiet lane, surrounded by garden. Comfortable and homely, clean and warm . Very conveniently situated on a bus route( very useful if you are walking on the South Downs way) and within walking distance of a pub for evening meal. Good breakfast
- Caroline (10/5): - We had a very comfortable stay and the host was very accommodating.
- Shane (9/5): Had a lovely stay at bridge cottage.highly recommended - A short bus ride from the south downs way.very peaceful and cake on arrival.Miranda was very helpful with recommendations for evening meals.
- Scott (10/5): -
- Lorraine (10/5): - The setting was quiet and relaxed, with lots of wildlife visible from our bedroom and conservatory. The bed was so comfortable that we almost overslept both mornings!
Miranda and her beautiful dog, Iris were very welcoming! I didn't like going home - wished we were staying longer!
- Rebecca (8/5): Perfect picturesque pit stop for walking the SDW with a friend and a dog. - Our host was very accommodating and friendly. The cottage is lovely and secluded but close to Midhurst and the local pub a very short walk away. The cottage is clearly a well loved home but happy to take a dog, we had walked in the rain and Miranda had towels to help dry the dog, space for walking boots etc. Maybe a small room fridge to keep milk cold for tea/coffee.
- Steven (8/5): Great value B&B. - Very warm welcome and excellent breakfast from Miranda. Quiet location and close to town and good pubs. The road to the property was very, very narrow. Beware in vehicles.
- Pam (8/5): Lovely stay -
- Christine (10/5): Lovely quaint place in an excellent location for local exploration, excellent breakfast. - Exceptional breakfast. A friendly and very locally knowledgeable host. An old and very interesting property which was very comfortable, quaint and warm. A very minor issue was the state of the access road to the property, which had suffered due to rain erosion removing some of the surface. This made driving a the short distance of perhaps 200 yards from the main road a little nervy.
- Sean (10/5): Cycle the South Downs Way - Warm welcome, lovely quiet location not too far from the south downs way. Helpful in sourcing a place for an evening meal. First class breakfast.
- Pamela (8/5): - Breakfast was excellent! We were surprised that there was no lock on the bedroom door..
- Mary-Anne (9/5): -
- Benjamin (9/5): - Loved the location - very remote and down a v bumpy lane (no tarmac). But it might not suit a car with low clearance.
Nice to fall asleep with the sound of running water.
Hostess v welcoming. It felt like stepping into a friend's house. Loved the dogs too. The shower could have been warmer.
- Stephen (8/5): I was immediately impressed by the special location and the homely vibe of the interior. - I was immediately impressed not only by the special location and the homely vibe of the interior. This was no bland hotel This weas the opposite. Every wall was full of framed art. The owner was very freindly and relaxed. Food was wonderful. Thank you.
- John (7/5): Welcoming and peaceful. - Secluded property, very quiet. Approach road is a little precarious.
- Neil (9/5): Secluded peaceful cosy comfortable countryside setting with top breakfast - Lovely secluded country period cottage. Hidden from view surrounded by fields and woods. A large bed in our spacious comfortable well equipped accommodation. Top notch full English breakfast. The track to access the property is bumpy, narrow, was muddy during our visit. Care required
- Victor (8/5): - De rust. Cottage ligt ver van de weg in een kleine bos. Smal onverhard pad er naar toe.
Geluiden van roofvogels en als je uit raam kijkt zie je de reeën lopen.
Eigenaresse is een warm mens en staat altijd voor je klaar. Ontbijt is goed bereid.
- Olivier (8/5): -
- Gayle (10/5): - Host was amazing, location was exceptional, Breakfast was amazing and we slept so well . Nothing
- jamie (10/5): - Perfect, just what i needed ahead of day two of my 100-mile ride from Winchester to Eastbourne
- Lesley (7/5): - Lovely host, beautiful location, super house with beautiful and fascinating decor, sweet dogs, good breakfast.. I found the bed too hard ( but then I have a bad back and need some give) and I could feel the ridges of the electric blanket through the sheet. I prefer a duvet to sheets and blankets but I think the main problem could be solved with a mattress topper.
- Shirley (10/5): - It was unique. Paintings, books
Full of character
Very quiet
Garden, birds
- Jayne Tanner (9/5): - Location was perfect for us, but not for the taxi company we arranged to collect us and then drop us back off!
- ANTHONY (9/5): A unique place to for an enjoyable stay - Very secluded location, reached with derailed guidance from the owner
The host's dog guided us to the local pub!
We were provide with an excellent breakfast No adverse comment
- Owen (9/5): -
- Rick (9/5): Very pleasant stay with an attentive host. - Miranda was a superb host. Very informative and helpful. Breakfast was delightful. The property has all the charm of a 400 year old structure nestled in the country. Isla was an added bonus.
- charles (10/5): - Beautiful location and amazing host
- Eva (10/5): -

- Earl & Teena (10/5): Lovely cottage in a very quiet setting - Miranda is a lovely dedicated host. - Excellent full English breakfast with really good coffee in lovely bright conservatory. More pots and jars of condiments and sauce than you can see at a supermarket AND toast to go with them. Can’t think of anything
- Paul (8/5): Characterful dog friendly accommodation comfortable with great size bedrooms. Nice host. - House In a secluded spot. Pet (Dog) friendly location, nothing but helpful and plenty of room for our dog to roam. Pub a short walk away (Food OK) again dog friendly. Characterful accommodation comfortable with great size bedrooms. Nice host.
- Seona (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nancy (8/5): Comfortable - Good &Good Nothing
- Ian (9/5): Superb - The owner - Miranda - was really welcoming & helpful. The room was lovely & homely & breakfast the following day was great. Also the fact Miranda asked what time i'd like breakfast knowing i had a bus to get, a long day ahead, & then cooked it to order was great. A lovely house in a beautiful area.
- Yvonne (8/5): really good overnight stay with a very hospitable owner & a lovely breakfast. - in a lovely setting and delightfully quirky. difficult to access but the owners directions are really important to follow.
- Victoria (8/5): Very good -
- John (10/5): Very enjoyable. Four adults and a dog were welcomed with open arms - Tucked away in a tranquil spot. Miranda was so welcoming and catered for our every need. Her property was delightful and having tea in the morning in her grounds was lovely!
- David (10/5): Unique and charming accomodation in a peaceful location - The host was warm and friendly and the accomodation was delightfully charming in a picturesque and peaceful location. The breakfast was perfectly tasty, too.
- David (9/5): A feeling of being very well looked after in a wonderful and peaceful location. - GOOD WELCOME. HELPFUL. VERY GOOD FACILITIES IN ROOM AND BATHROOM. EXCELLENT BREAKFAST. CLEANLINESS IN ROOM WAS NOT PERFECT EG A BIT DUSTY
- Laura (10/5): Homely and picturesque stay as part of my South Downs walk :) - Oh my goodness what a beautiful place to stay. I couldn’t recommend this place highly enough! Miranda was an exceptional host and the room and private bathroom offered everything I needed and more. The decor is beautiful and I found the whole place is so welcoming. Had a wonderful nights sleep - the pillows are extra comfy :) thanks Miranda I hope to come and stay again one day in the future! Nothing could have been better!
- Anonymous (8/5): Peaceful retreat in Sussex woodland - Beautiful peaceful spot, great breakfasts, and friendly, helpful host Pity the bathroom not ensuite. The bed was a little past its prime
- Stacy (10/5): A serene tucked-away homely cottage ideal for escaping the city bustle. - Miranda has created a welcoming homely space. She’s a delightfully friendly and helpful host. We throughly enjoyed our stay. Our room was comfortable, with windows looking onto a stunning quiet garden with surrounding fields. The breakfast and morning coffee was loved. Nothing :)
- Simon (9/5): Lovely quiet relaxing visit - Full of character and close enough to the South Downs Way as a stopover. Great host and breakfast.
- Paul (10/5): Quiet and comfortable - Lovely perfect for what we wanted.
- Sonja (9/5): Beautiful peaceful cottage stay! - A lovely secluded cottage, tucked away! The host was lovely & so welcoming to us & our little dog. We had an excellent meal at the ‘Greyhound Inn’ which was a short walk away, and after we sat in the garden with a bottle of wine in the beautiful peaceful garden watching our dog play in the fields, it was blissful! The written instructions are good but because you have to suddenly turn off a very busy road and it’s hard to stop & turn into the lane, it’s also quite a rough track. We parked our car at The Greyhound Inn and walked to the cottage, they are fine to leave the car there overnight if you purchase a meal.
- Peter (8/5): Amazing cottage with great host and unique decor! Highly recommend! - Very quaint and quirky. Great find! The driveway to the house but it’s fine once you know what you’re doing
- Annie (7/5): Friendly host in slightly awkward setting - Character, setting, breakfast in the conservatory, bathroom Bed uncomfortable and no where comfortable to sit. Difficult entry from road
- Pauline (9/5): Really lovely place to stay. - Ideal spot for a quiet break. Location was idyllic and local pub did a very good meal.
Breakfast was beautiful. Good coffee! I tried having a bath, but there wasn't enough hot water. To be fair we didn't mention it to our host at the time and I'm sure she would have done something about it as I got the feeling there was nothing that was too much trouble.
- Sue (7/5): Quaint and very English B&B in a beautiful area. Good value for money. - Miranda is a lovely host who cooks a fabulous breakfast to order. Very quiet and secluded quaint cottage full of paintings, books and ornaments. Huge bedroom and bathroom with fabulous views from every window. Very comfortable bed made up with cotton sheets and blankets. Tea, coffee and snacks in the room. Great location with 2 fabulous pubs within walking distance. Lots of places of interest a short drive away. Miranda's two handsome dogs. No locks on the bedroom door. It could have been a bit cleaner.
- Xuereb (10/5): Perfect - What a fantastic place to stay! Beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting. Mirander the host is fantastic, welcoming and friendly. Cooked breakfast was also fantastic and was tailor made so I had exactly what I wanted! Just to top it all there's a pub 2min walk away which had a beautiful and very large beer garden. The pub serves very good food at a reasonable price. I'll be going back. Nothing could have been better.
- Emma (7/5): Good - Quirky property
Very friendly host who was extremely helpful
Relaxed atmosphere and peaceful
Lovely breakfast The property was very difficult to find despite directions from the host - perhaps a sign at the end of the driveway might help
Worth noting a narrow driveway for larger cars
- Therese (10/5): Lovely relaxing break away surrounded by nature - The home cooked breakfast which is included in the stay was lovely. There are also two pubs within walking distance. We visited the Royal Oak up the road which was great for dinner on the first night.
The room was cozy and liked the old style country cottage. Made to feel very welcome in hosts own home. Nothing was too much trouble.
Dogs very welcomed .. space for them to explore and walk and made to feel at home also in the house.
Quiet, with the sound of just owls and other birds. Very peaceful setting and gardens
Would suit anyone interested in local bird life and many nature reserves in the surrounding area to walk.
- Catherine (10/5): Exceptional - Everything! The house was beautiful - clean, great location, host was welcoming and very attentive. Breakfast was delicious. Thank you Miranda for a wonderful stay. Nothing - it was all wonderfull
- Elizabeth (10/5): Perfect venue for a relaxed stay in peaceful location - Very quiet and peaceful, great location with easy access to the places we wanted to see. Cosy room with comfortable bed, ample storage, large private bathroom next to room. Loved the cottage itself, with its quirky character, lots of art on walls, relaxed and slightly bohemian vibe. Miranda was a terrific host, with her knowledge of the area, great sense of humour and cooks a terrific breakfast. Good local pub for evening meals. Tons of books to read as well. Perfect for us and we’d definitely go back again. Nothing: some reviewers were nervous about the narrow access lane but we found it really straightforward and the directions Miranda sent were very clear.
- Max (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (10/5): Fully recommended a super quiet country retreat - Amazing location and very clean room and en-suite. Miranda was the perfect host and she does a superb Full English Breakfast. Nothing
- Diana (9/5): Comfortable, characterful and memorable. - It was great to be in a traditional B&B, being greeted by the hostess and her 15year old dog. A house full of character in a peaceful setting- just birdsong, (no traffic noise) and surrounded by woods and fields. But it is within a few minutes walking distance of 2 contrasting pubs, one a real ‘local’, the other ore of a gastronomic pub.. Very comfortable room and the best bath/shower. And a delicious full English breakfast. Highly recommended.
- Louisa (9/5): Great welcome, beautiful location, fantastic breakfast - Quirky decor Very tricky turn off the main road… a sign on the road would be helpful.
Despite the owner showing me how to use the shower, I couldn’t get it to work
- Pasquale (10/5): For us it was more than adequate - Nice location, excellent breakfast, comfortable room and excellent host. the accommodation and decor is as expected for 17th century house, because of the time of year we visited, the garden is not much to look at, I would imagine summertime the garden would come into it's own.
- Pete (8/5): Very good - We had a great stay at Bridge Cottage. It is a charming cottage with lots of original character. Our host, Miranda, was lovely and she served up scrumptious breakfasts each day we were there.
- Malcolm (9/5): A quiet and homely stay - Very welcoming host
Variety of breakfast
Stored perishable food in host's fridge Track to house was rough for cars
- Amanda (9/5): Very welcoming host. Comfortable stay on the South Downs Way. - Great location, off the main road and near a pub.
Good access from South Downs Way via a very scenic route. N/A
- Chris (8/5): Very different - but would stay again - This is a tricky review to write. We had a lovely large room with a large bathroom, but unfortunately the TV didn’t work well - missing lots of channels (may be fixed now and didn’t worry us as we could watch stuff on tablet via wifi) and unfortunately the controls for the shower seemed a bit temperamental - but the bath was lovely. A bit disconcerting to not have curtains/blind in the bathroom but the cottage is very secluded so got over that. (Saw muntjac in garden).
There were no locks on any of the doors - some might be concerned about that but we were OK with it (and not just because we were the only guests)
The breakfast was absolutely lovely, cereals, fruit, yoghourt, full English, with home made jams etc.
The room was well stocked with tea, coffee, milk, chocolate biscuits etc!
And Miranda was a great host - nothing was too much trouble for her; lots of useful reference books and guides.
You are obviously sharing her home; lots of personal ‘treasures’ in the bedroom and around the house.
It’s also convenient for local pubs and a bus to Cocking for the South Downs Way.
Other reviewers have commented ‘eclectic’ and ‘homestead’; good description.
- Katja (8/5): Unique cottage - A gem with a fantastic location for anyone looking for a quiet holiday. Waking up to birds singing instead of cars revving outside or sirens. I slept so well..
I think Bridge Cottage is a very unique place. I find it very difficult to compare it to other inns or bnbs. Miranda is a very welcoming and helpful host, and the setting feels more like an air bnb than a bnb. It felt like staying at your grandparents' than at a hotel, which i liked. I had my own shower room, which was next to the bedroom, not ensuite (very hot water and good water pressure).
The location is perfect for visitors with dogs; it's quiet, secure and lots to sniff.. I visited during the colder months; it'd have been good to have heating (although there is a portable radiator in the bedroom too) and hot water on the whole time. I only went out in the morning and couldn't shower until the hot water was turned on again in the evening. But as mentioned before, the setting is very informal, and this was resolved quickly.
The room doesn't have a lock. I slept well knowing this, but anyone with strong feelings about security should look elsewhere.. however, I'd install some fire/ c2o alarms around the property..
Regardless, I'd recommend the property and I'd stay again ❤️
- Imurhoneybee (10/5): Lovely cosy night. - Loved the old home and the quirkiness. The bed was huge and so very comfortable. We were warm and cosy all night.
Breakfast was delicious.
Shower had plenty of hot water.
Lovey treats in the room.
Room was large. Highly recommend to arrive when sun is still out as the turn was impossible to see in the dark! Definitely follow the given instructions, do not completely trust Google.
- Chris (10/5): A hugely enjoyable stay - My husband and I stayed at Bridge Cottage with my stepdaughter, her husband and their dog. We were thrilled with our choice of accommodation. Miranda was the perfect host, the cottage was lovely and unique and its semi rural setting was perfect for us and our Labrador who had a whole field to run around in. Our room was comfortable and equipped with lots of lovely touches. We had a choice of teas and coffees, bottled water, towelling dressing gowns. A lavish breakfast (I think the biggest we have ever had!) was served in the conservatory which gave us extensive views over the fields. A herd of deer ran past whilst we were eating - a treat for us. We only stayed a night but would have been happy to stay for much longer. The location was perfect for our visit to the Weald and Downland Living Museum and Petworth. Nothing
- Cotterell (9/5): Good place to stay for a few nights, even with owls and muntjac and excellent breakfast - Miranda was lovely and personable. Communication excellent as was breakfast. Access is not easy but directions spot on. The property is full of interesting decor. Bed is huge, lots of hot water, relaxed atmosphere, a good choice. A sign at the end of the lane would help finding it in the dark.
- Laine (9/5): A long weekend with our pug - It was really unique, quiet, interesting place, excellent breakfast, nice walks nearby, dog friendly It was a bit difficult to find at first, but the instructions were very thorough
- Carol (10/5): wonderful cottage in peaceful location - lovely old cottage with original features and so peaceful. Miranda is a wonderful host. I loved hearing the birds, owls woodpeckers and night birds. wonderful to wake up to a babbling brook outside yr window! just that I’d have preferred a quilt on the bed rather than blankets as was a bit chilly but other than that a wonderful stay!
- Barry (9/5): A delightful stay in a beautiful cottage in the heart of West Sussex. - Everything! The location is peaceful and idyllic. Our room was spacious and delightfully furnished, with a large and wonderfully-comfortable bed. Miranda is a superb and very considerate host. And her breakfasts are both delicious and generous. There really was nothing not to like.
- Lesley (9/5): We had a lovely stay and were made very welcome - Breakfast was very good N/a
- Georgia (10/5): A great find! - Bridge Cottage is in a beautiful secluded location off the beaten track. It’s an interesting and eclectic house. Miranda our host was friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was delicious !
- Tina (10/5): Exceptional - A beautiful location. Would love to go back in the summer, picture postcard perfect Loved our brief visit
- Emilia (6/5): Pleasant -
- Richard (8/5): Most enjoyable. - lovely cottage in quiet location, close to Midhurst and within walking distance of two pubs. Dog friendly. Comfortable bedroom with good bathroom facilities. Great breakfast. Access from busy main road very tricky. Owner's directions were very necessary!
- Goddard (7/5): Good - The breakfast was excellent and beautifully presented. The room and bathroom (which was just outside our bedroom) were a little "too quaint" for our liking. It's an old cottage - which in itself is not an issue - but, comfort and atmosphere were simply missing. Access to the house was via a very narrow and rough driveway.
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (8/5): Bridge cottage chic - The cottage is old interesting. The road to access.
- Cameron (9/5): We had a wonderful stay at Bridge Cottage. Miranda was so accommodating and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The h -
- Malsara (8/5): Very good - This quaint bed and breakfast was located only 5 minutes drive from Midhurst which made it ideal for us. You will find something a little different here, art, colour and a homely feel as soon as you walk in through the door. We had a very pleasant stay and a quiet night. The drive into the property was a little hard to tackle but not impossible.
- David (10/5): Bridge Cottage - Great location for walking nearby, V comfortable stay, Miranda was a very welcoming host and served up a lovely breakfast, also gave us a torch for the short but very dark walk to the pub Early closing at the pub, it was Sunday but we managed to get a lovely dinner in the Royal Oak
- Collier (2/5): I am afraid we would not stay there again. - entrance difficult. uneven floor difficult.
- Helen (4/5): Disappointing -
- Andrea (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (10/5): Location of Bridge cottage is perfect, quite and peaceful, great host and breakfast. - We arrived to find Bridge cottage a hidden gem at the end of private tack. Miranda made us feel very at home and is a wonderful host. The choice of breakfast and quality is excellent. We opted for the full English which set us up nicely for the day. Each evening, we eat in one of the two excellent local pubs, both in an easy walking distance.
- Crisp (9/5): A quaint, quiet, and comfortable stay with a great breakfast. Thanks Miranda for providing such a perfect location to un - Such a peaceful and private location yet walking distance to a couple of good pubs and close to the town of Midhurst. Quaint cottage, comfortable room and great breakfast!
- Philip (10/5): Comfortable and characterful - It is an old cottage with a lot of character and handy for us walking the South Downs Way. The No 60 bus goes there from the path (ask for Greyhound pub). The room was really nicely furnished with older style furniture and the breakfast was wonderful.
- Jonathan (8/5): Very good - Friendly welcome and a very nice breakfast The access to better signed and the drive way needs to be cleared, it was very overgrown
- Allen (10/5): Amazing Place - The location is beautiful as 8s the property. Freshly cooked breakfast every day 😋.
Very relaxing atmosphere, and a beautiful Miranda who owns the house is amazing.
❤️❤️❤️
- Jo (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful home in a superb location for walking the Serpent Trail with very friendly and kind host.
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- David (2/5): NOT suitable for families - Unfortunately, we were made to feel very unwelcome from the outset. Despite informing our host that we were travelling with our baby, she informed as upon arrival that "the other guests [an older couple] don't like babies, so if your daughter screams or cries, could you please take her outside?" She also cleared food from our baby's highchair before she had finished eating, "otherwise it gets on the floor" (which was anyway covered in dust and dog hair).
I fully understand people not liking children and not being comfortable with them in their home, but if that is the case, they should not be running a B&B, or at least one that claims to be "family friendly". To accept our booking - and our money - and then treat our presence as an imposition (at best) is to my mind inexcusable. If we had had somewhere else to go, we would have left immediately. As it was, we spent a stressful night creeping about the place, trying to pacify our daughter, before making a speedy getaway in the morning.
As the positive reviews attest, Bridge Cottage may be a pleasant place to stay as a solo traveller or a couple. The property itself is characterful, and the location pleasant. Note: It is much more of a homestay than a B&B - there are no locks on the rooms, the bathrooms are separate, and there is a lot of "clutter". Very little effort has been made to convert the place from a home into a B&B; there was a TV in our room, propped up on loose books, and an ancient, thimble-sized kettle, but barring that, this was just someone's spare room, complete with all their possessions. Again, some people may like this (I have enjoyed staying in such properties in Japan and Pakistan), but it should honestly be advertised as a homestay, and one should expect to act accordingly (i.e. as a guest in someone's home, not as a paying customer with certain rights and entitlements).
- Jantjeke (9/5): Superb - The super hospitable host!
Excellent breakfast.
The peace and quiet of the location.
Very cosy and comfortable place, in the middle of nature. Just excellent!
Will book again if in the area and will definitely recommend to friends!
