- Jim McNish (5/5): Cheap and cheerful. Superb location for skiing. Higher end stuff is further up the valley. - The hotel is 50m from the nearest ski lift and has a good boot room in the basement with ski hire on site.
It is the only hotel in the area with its own onsen.
The all inclusive food and drink was remarkable - not only breakfast, lunch and dinner, but afternoon snacks of sandwiches, cakes, nuts and sweets. Beer, wines and spirits as well as soft drinks, fruit juices, teas and coffee throughout the day and evening.
Multilingual staff were very accommodating and friendly.
The food was decent with a mix of Japanese and Western style dishes at every meal, all served buffet style. The building is very tired - last refurbished in the 1990s, I think, and showing its age. Some of the external concrete is failing - the stairs by the verandah are off limits as they are cracked and falling down. The plumbing also needs some attention as the bathroom floors flood with foul smelling water when the bath plug is pulled. The beds were fine, but the chest of drawers was unusable as the bottoms had fallen out of two of the three drawers.
- Stephen (10/5): - Exceptional hospitality. Not a thing!
- Danny (7/5): I've been to Shiga Kogen for ten years now and the hotel has its own uniqueness that I enjoyed - Food was excellent. Hotel was clean. Great to have the fire going every afternoon and evening. Complimentary drinks and nibbles were just perfect post slopes. The front desk needs to be manned at all times by the same people so the proper information can be communicated.

- Antonio (7/5): Hotel antiguo, buena comida y buena hubicación - Buena comida, material de ski incluido y muy buena hubicación Mobiliario muy viejo, camas muy blandas.

- LE EN (10/5): Really a warm stay despite the cold! - Rental of snowboard and shoes were prepared before I arrived as I emailed them prior of my sizing. Every dinner they will reserve a seat for me too. Very thoughtful! NIL
- Richard (8/5): Good value. - Food and beverages. Building is overheated.
- Alan (9/5): Character Japanese ski lodge with friendly staff. - Friendly helpful staff. Cosy lounge area. Nice onsen/public bath. All inclusive package including beer wine & ski rental.
- Andrew (7/5): Down to earth, neat, tidy and clean establishment. - The quality and quantity of breakfast was plentiful. Could have had more fruit at breakfast.

- Hasbi (10/5): Amazing staff and great location! - Close to ski lift. Central Shiga Kogeb ski location. Staff were very friendly, fully inclusive package is worth it. Dinner and breakfast selection was amazing. Also provided light lunch and bites to eat through out the day. The property is a bit old and has some wear and tear. But it also adds to the charm and traditional Japanese ski lodge
- Mark (9/5): Pleasantly surprised, exceeded expectations - Great location to ski lift, good quality food, beer and wine self service, sitting around the fire meeting new people, the onsen and included ski/snowboard hire which I didn’t realise when booking. Quality of equipment was passable although length of skis was limited if tall or experienced. Beds are very firm, but that seems to be the norm.
- Ashley (8/5): Nice to talk to people from around the world by the central fire at night . - Meals were consistently good .
- Timothy (10/5): The staff, food and location were amazing - The breakfast was exceptional. Big variety of western and Japanese food and Drink. The staff were attentive and helpful. We had the all-inclusive package which meant we could have unlimited food and drink from sun up to late evening. Although there were set buffet times for breakfast and dinner. The location was perfect: just opposite the Takamagahara Lift at Shiga Kogen. My wife had an injury and they kindly drove us to the hospital for treatment and medical certificate. I wish we could have stayed longer.
Our room did not have a shower however we could use the onsen shower.
- Kai (7/5): Good overall package , poor ski / snowboard rental , recommend to get gear rental somewhere else - Closed to ski slope , full board includes free flow alcohol, dinner has good options of foods Snowboard gears are included in the package , however services and equipments are both poor , despite it said the rental place open from 8am-5pm, when we arrive at around 9am and need to fix the snowboard gear issues , there’s nobody in the rental shop, we tried to get help from staff , at last some other reception staff come in and try help but he’s not responsible for ski rental hence he has very little knowledge to help, it took us more than half an hour to fix the snowboard gear issues before we can get to the slope !
- Danielle (10/5): The most amazing first Japan experience - Amazing family feel and very hospitable and helpful staff. They were funny and easy to get along with and went out of their way to ensure you’re stay felt like a home away from home. Will definitely be coming back again! The food was amazing and fireplace and cocktail at the end of a big ski day was definitely a highlight. 100% would recommend but also would love to keep as a secret find!
- Jessica (8/5): Cozy mountain village, great staff, great location. Floor beds mid - The location was really great. Having an all inclusive option is really convenient since there is not much around in the area. It is in a really great location to the central area of Shiga kogen. You can walk a short distance to a nearby lift and you are pretty much in the middle to get to any ski area you want. The staff is incredibly helpful, hard working, and kind and truly made the stay great! The beds were not comfortable. We did not know there was a heater we could use in the room and froze till we found it on the last night.

- Michelle (8/5): Fabulous - Very close to the slopes. Fabulous full board including lunch and drinks. Free ski hire (beginner skis). Lovely multilingual staff (English, Japanese, French, Danish)
- Zhang (10/5): Amazing all inclusive hotel for ski trip - Everything, all inclusive dining and even ski rental
- Scott (10/5): We’ll be back! - The price included all meals, drinks and skis and snowboards. The staff were brilliant and helped solve some problems we had with lost items and also assisted with onward hire. Nothing to mention
- Eng Hwee (8/5): We enjoyed our stay and it meets our expectations - Hotel is dated. Happy with free flow of Drinks and snacks throughout the day. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Meals were somewhat repetitive but it was of an acceptable quality and taste.
We didn’t know that our package included rental of ski equipment.
Bus stop is within a short walking distance from the hotel. Onsen is a bit small and rooms are dated. The toilet flush makes a very noise. We can’t leave our windows incase any monkeys get in. For the price we were paying, maybe some basic toiletries can be provided at the onsen like moisturiser.
- Wei Jing (9/5): A cozy home stay and will come again. - The staff are warm and friendly. Food is tasty too. Nil
- Soh (7/5): - The rental shop did not have good service. They did not let us choose the boards and the equipment was quite faulty
