- Nel (8/5): Modern, comfortable room in suburban area east of airport - This is a lodge located east of the airport, some distance from the city. The room is large, private and comfortable, with an ensuite bathroom, very good mattress, large chest, and with good electrical and wifi and decent AC. The room has a very proper feeling to it, with a small private terrace, large window that lets in lots of light, and with a high ceiling as well. The owner is very helpful. The lodge has changed its name but the new name isn't necessarily recognized on apps. Due to the location on a side alley and the difficulty in getting transport, it only makes sense to stay here if you have private transport or need to be in the area. There seems to be persistent loud blaring music at odd hours, despite the remote location. If you rent a scooter, don't do it here, as the owner's bike is in bad shape.
- Jason (7/5): Overall, it was a good place to stay and fit most of what I wanted - Lotus homestay is comfortable (room is big, nice bed/pillows, large bathroom), wifi was good (could possibly work for remote workers but I was the only guest most of the time I was there), and it is not near a mosque (4am wake-up for prayers, the down side is being away from town and needing to rent a scooter to get around). With this in mind, I did end up extending to stay here the whole 2 weeks I was in Labuan Bajo.
I got 2 bottles of water most days (the days I only got 1 it could have been another guest taking the second bottle or a mistake, but I didn't need it, so did not ask).
If there was a problem and I didn't see the guys, I would message on Booking.com and they took care of it quickly.
Things that I don't see as bad but might be useful to know a head of time:
The taxis do not know where Lotus is, so you might need to show them on Google Maps. The signs for Lotus homestay said Mulia Homestay on the main street and in front of the building (it was a little further down than what my Google Map showed).
The guy who speaks English knows enough for what is needed or will use a translation app on his phone. Communication was not a problem.
I didn't have an issue, but if you have problems with stairs, you will need to request a room downstairs. The upstairs rooms do have a view of the neighbourhood instead of the fence.
The road to Lotus is a little bumpy but not a problem. There is not much room to turn around d in the road or park with a car (it is easier with having a scooter for daily transportation. The guest I see with a car took up most of the available parking while they were there).
Nothing they could do about it, but sometimes the neighbour played loud music (I preferred the music to the early morning mosque prayers). Do not expect to have hot water, they have the plumbing for it but only have cold water (said it was being worked on the first day but never warmed up during the 2 weeks i was there). Most places in the area do not have hot water, so I didn't bother changing locations.
I do not advise renting the 110cc scooter from the homestay. It was very overpriced without a helmet or mirrors. You can rent a 125cc that is at most a year old from Lovely Rent Scooter for the same 100k/day and comes with a helmet.
