Guest Reviews
- Aaron (10/5): Felt like home, if not better than. - The free coffee and laundry was an amazing perk to an already awesome hostel. The price was totally affordable and the layout was also very nice.
On site staff made me feel really safe and secure.
I plan on returning once again. I cant recall anything i didn't like.
It was a very great experience.

- Krasimir (9/5): Excellent hostel - recommend it 100% - Staff is awesome and supportive.
Very hostel oriented atmosphere and positive vibes
Well equipped kitchen and common spaces are very cozy
Impeccably clean Toilet on the second floor is having flush issues.
Not ideally situated from downtown, however the neighbourhood is calm.
- setemapa (9/5): - Excelente hostel, la esmeralda atención para conmigo ya que hablo muy poco inglés... Nada
- Tara (10/5): - My roommate was snoring all night and she woke up at 4:00 am and again made a lot of noise all the time!
Which is not on the hostel, but that was the only thing bothered me

- Luca (10/5): A warm Welcome to Detroit - Quintessential hostel vibes with great gentle local guys who manage this Lovely place in a super quiet neighborhood but a walk distance from Michigan Station city symbol and just a mile away from downtown. You can cook your own food and relax on big sofas at every floor. You can park in a suoer safe street just in front of the hostel door.
The toilets are super clean and the place is so silent that you can sleep like a baby and forget all the stress. The rooms are super cozy, I stayed in winter time and the heater was perfectly set to make me feel like at home.
Ask the guy with mustaches about Detroit music and Nightlife, he is the man. I wishI could live there for a couple of months ❤️
- Peter (9/5): Great stay just got ripped off on the bike rental - Location, staff availability, cleanliness Bike rentals were a bit pricey for shitty bikes
- Rogério (10/5): -
- Srikanth (10/5): It's worth for money and i will stay here again if I am coming back to Detroit again. - Location is 5 to 10 min walk from bus stops. Neighbourhood is good and peaceful. Sitting area is good. Cooking facility is there. Bathroom is clean and well maintained. Staff is friendly and accessible in offline in office timings or online in remaining time It would have been better if breakfast is included.
- Noé (10/5): Great welcome from a kind and patient host. I really appreciated it. I’m thrilled about this first-ever experience in a - Quality of the laundry !
The room was clean. The bathroom was a little bit messy with hair in the sink. Surely the person before so I don’t hold it against the host.

- Terrance (8/5): i would recommend budget minded travelers stay here! - the location is very close to downtown Detroit, in a safe and quiet neighborhood could have used more bathrooms, like urinals

- Samu (7/5): - Dorm room a bit narrow.
- Xi (8/5): -
- Jordan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mclaughlin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Denise (10/5): Great stay in Detroit - Really cosy and has everything you need!
- Paula (10/5): GREAT FOR SOLO TRAVELLERS - It was super clean super confortable I will repeat
- Jose (10/5): Exceptional - Especially the decoration, and stickers. Great vibe!
- Przemyslaw (9/5): Superb -
- Branson (8/5): Very good - Improved since my last visit around 8 years ago. Just the usual problem in hostel dorms of loud snorers keeping others awake.
- Carol (8/5): Very good - The place has plenty of parking, bathrooms on every floor, and is pretty clean. My mattress was comfortable and I appreciate that there was a fan to help with air flow and noise. Also, they had room darkening curtains which was nice. Even though it was the 4th of July week, the outside noise wasn't bad. I would recommend that you bring a blackout mask as the main lights in your section are kept on all night for other guests. I had to change my reservation which was my mistake, but they didn't respond through the app (email, phone or text) nor did they when I tried directly. It was 3-4 days before I got a hold of someone and it was fine but it was stressful not knowing. Also, if you are not techy like me, they want you to check in and out electronically. I couldn't figure it out so I left a message when I left.
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- Greg (8/5): Perfect one night stay and central to all that Detroit had to offer. Friendly staff, cool art. - Great staff. Enjoyed the opening of an art exhibition that was shown at the hostel and great knowledge of the city and its history from staff. Squeaky door which I fixed. Ideally there would be a few more bathrooms, but the site is what it is. It was perfect for my one night.

- Gabriella (10/5): Perfect - I thank the very helpful staff. Very clean and welcoming structure. I liked the colors of the building. Excellent location. Thank you very much for everything
- Timothy (10/5): Exceptional - Very cosy and chill hostel. The staff were great, really helpful and accommodating.
- Mehmet (2/5): Worst experience ever - Not much to like Almost everything about this place was disappointing. I honestly don’t understand how it gets five-star reviews. My experience was terrible. The location is awful—no nearby bus stops, and it’s not within walking distance of downtown. The hostel itself feels like a ruin, both inside and out. The rooms are tiny and uncomfortable. To make things worse, the noise was unbearable—people snored all night, making it impossible to sleep. It wasn’t even that cheap! For the same price, you could get a much more comfortable private hotel room a bit farther out. Overall, a horrible experience—I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional, fun & eclectic stay in Detroit! - I really liked the feel of the place, brings me back to my youth traveling Europe. The eclectic furniture all over is exceptional, and it was fun just going around to see it all. Very cool that it was a cooperative project with over 100 people who donated to the project. I also loved renting the bike from them, I went all over Detroit with it. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I stayed in one of the dorms, but you can rent a private room as well. You can use one of the 2 kitchens to cook your own food. Also, bring your own Masterlock for the free use of the lockers!
- Steffy (10/5): Exceptional - The staff is super friendly and helpfull, give great recomandations! And Its very clean It was perfect
- Verena (10/5): Exceptional - The location is great, feels safe and has a special atmosphere. I really liked the design of the hostel and that they give advice on what to do in the area. The bed was super-comfortable and the shared bathroom nice and clean. There are gaps between the door and the frame. Apart from that: everything was perfect!
- Cáceres (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kailey (10/5): Would recommend -
- Honey (8/5): Place is really nice still - Place itself is nice, comfortable bed, and can move around. Request granted on bed assignment. you can cook as you preferred. cost saving it is! Location is quiet remote to consider to main city / main area of the marathon start / finish time. no bus or have to walk further from the bus stop. quiety worry at night if safe to walk late night.
- Miller (10/5): Exceptional -
- Padilla (10/5): Exceptional -
- Holmes (10/5): Great location, comfy bed, cool people! - The hostel was so great. It snowed the day I was there, and my room was so warm and comfortable. Everything was very clean and updated.
- Blessy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joey (10/5): A wonderful surprise; will 100% stay there again next time I’m in Detroit - The cleanest hostel i have ever stayed at!
Love that it’s a nonprofit ; friendly staff who helped me understand Detroit better (first time there)
Loved the location, too!
- Ichiro (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ric (8/5): Very good -
- Alison (10/5): Clean, Friendly Hostel in a Nice Neighbourhood - I was here for a very, very brief stay enroute to Chicago, but the people here were very friendly, the guy working at the hostel was amazing and helped me out with tips for getting around Detroit, and everything was very clean. It did take some practice maneuvering up to the top bunk, but I liked that they had two options - one more open with an easier ladder, and the one I chose, which is harder to get into, but provides the side walls if, like me, you are afraid of falling out of a top bunk. Or perhaps you will get there early enough to choose a bottom bunk and have no trouble at all! Definitely recommend this hostel and would stay there again if I am visiting or passing through Detroit. Detroit has unreliable public transport, so if traveling without a phone, like me, it was a bit far from the Amtrak Station for walking, although I did end up walking so it's not impossible. If you are able to arrange a Lyft ride, or are traveling during the daytime hours when regular taxis run, it wouldn't be far driving there. I would definitely choose this hostel again, I would just take into consideration the time of day that I would be catching a train, to make it easier.
- Olha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jankova (8/5): Very good - I liked good communication with reception, nice clean bed, warm water in cozy bathr. Long time to connect with wifi, the destination was far away of airport
- Vladimirs (9/5): Spend great day in Detroid. Place got excellent price, friendly staff and close to downtown - Excellent place. Loved it
- Konrad (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joanne (8/5): Very good -
- Marie (8/5): Very good -
- Samuel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yaya (8/5): Overall happy with everything - .
- Mauricio (8/5): Good place, good location, good price. - The personal attending the front desk are very kind and very helpful. The room and bathroom were clean. People arrived at about 11 pm and went for a shower. They were a bit noisy and the fan in the bathroom is really noisy.
- Paola (10/5): Exceptional - Hostel detroit is a peaceful and very nice place to stay. I would go back with no doubts.
- Ksenia (8/5): Very nice hostel next to Michigan central. Good for a short budget stay. -
- Kelly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic and knowledgeable staff - felt very welcome Overall, it was a bit noisy
- Steven (10/5): A simply great stay - Great facility, very clean & comfortable. Easy check in, quiet neighborhood. Cozy and interesting layout and very nice beds. Nothing
- Martha (6/5): Pleasant - Friendly and helpful staff
Fully equipped Kirchen
Lovely location in Corktown Unfortunately there were no curtains and invidual bedlights to protect guests privacy and sleep, therefore I woke up at times bc of an inconsiderate roommate who Switched on the lights. It could have been prevented with curtains.
- Zeeshan (8/5): Very good -
- Carina (9/5): Great place to stay! - Large house converted into a hostel with multiple kitchens and decent bathrooms on every level. They offer essentials such as free towels, body wash and coffee! And the staff are really friendly. It is a bit of a walk to town (or you can bus or Uber quite cheap) but I love walking everywhere when I travel so didn’t mind it. More an FYI…You can’t turn up early before your booking because your code only activates from check in. So you’d have to knock to get in before that and hope someone is around.
