Guest Reviews
- Denis (7/5): Enjoyable, would use again. - Location
Spacious rooms Bathroom fittings dated need updating
Wouldn't kill them to leave 1/2 pt milk in fridge
- Penny (4/5): Disappointing - The location House unclean
Beds well worn
Ants in kitchen
Cigarette stubs all over outside area
House was cold
Living room stank
Stains on sofas
Windows stuck open with coat hangers
Kitchen plates n glasses chipped
- Jon (10/5): Couldn't have been better - Amazing location right in the heart of Chester and perfect for visiting the many sites of interest N/a
- Morton (10/5): Fun - It was lovely and clean had really good amenities
Excellent location
- jane (10/5): - Everything Nothing
- Victoria (9/5): - The location is fabulous, we are parking space the second car managed to park on the street, but there was a car park very close by anyway. Large rooms, comfortable beds and fully equipped kitchen. Grear communication and easy check-in instructions also. The only downside was the noise from the main road as the the windows arent double glazed, but were aware of this from other reviews.
- Michelle (8/5): Great location for a weekend away - Exceptional
Location
- Jill (7/5): Very comfortable - Very near city centre
Problem with heating sorted immediately
Very well equipped Very noisy road
No locks on bathroom doors
Very difficult to find on arrival. Would be better to use 7 St. Martin's Road
- Katharine (9/5): - Location and spaciousness
- Lisa (4/5): Great location wouldn’t stay again though. Ok if you eat out and not fussed on kitchen. - The location is great for the Christmas Markets etc.
Bedrooms are spacious. The property was not clean on entering.
The work surfaces had bits on them and dried on beans. The utensils had old food on them. The oven was dirty. The metal ovenware was rusty. Chips in cups and glasses. It needs a deep clean and some maintenance to bring up to spec. The staff response was prompt and alternatives offered. But doesn’t take away the fact that it is dirty and you have to clean before you cook!
- Tracey (8/5): Close to shopping area and story theatre - Great location Noise from main road at night and a damp smell in hallway
- Ross (10/5): We will 100% book again - Location and facilities brilliant. Nothing
- laura (10/5): - The house was amazing, so close to town and great size..had everything you could need
- Terence (10/5): Good location - Nice Nothing
- Tracy (1/5): Unclean and lack of working amenities - Location Very unclean, lack of working facilities
Lack of amenities
Stained furniture and bedding
Can only use 1 shower at a time due to water pressure so when staying as a group showering can be a problem
- Fiona (10/5): Great family stay ! - The bedrooms were huge and what was even better the living areas for everyone to be together and easy access to the town for my 85year old father-in-law.
- Suzy (7/5): Well equipped and hosts responded to my queries . - Not applicable
- maria (9/5): enjoyed our stay the property was ideal for the 6 of us. spacious and comfortable - we could not initially find the property as we did not expect the front door to be on the main road. and as 3 couples we would have liked locks on the bathroom and toilet doors.
- Pam (5/5): Spacious near to city centre - It took a while to find the keys as we arrived before my disabled sister we parked in the rear car park. we were unsure which key press was for what number. this could be explained better. also your private parking sign is totally erased some people disregard this as it is not clearly displayed but we worried about this due to my disabled sister - maybe you could improve the visibility of the parking space. The noise you cannot help from the road but a warning about it would be beneficial as light sleepers could sleep in the rear bedrooms. Your windows need attention in stormy weather they rattle a lot. your outside furniture is dangerous and needs replacing such a shame as these little things take the shine off your lovely house
- Katherine (9/5): Spacious property in excellent location. The Kitchen is the hub of the house. - The property is a very spacious house and all the bedrooms are large. As a female group we all missed a dressing table. Somewhere to sit to do hair and makeup. The rooms would benefit greatly by this addition. Those at the front said the main road was noisy but being at the rear I didn’t. notice this.
- Mike (6/5): Great location, tired accommodation - Location was excellent Building is tired, in need of some tlc. General cleanliness was poor. Other people’s socks etc found in sight behind bedside cabinet in one bedroom. Kitchen surfaces were dirty. The bed in the upstairs bedroom with en-suite needs a new mattress. There was also a persistent drain smell from both the en-suite and downstairs toilet.
- douglas (8/5): We had a lovely stay , the accommodation was excellent and as expected for such an old establishment . We had a slight p - The spaciousness and locality
- Benjamin (7/5): Excellently located but several small issues. - The location is excellent and it's good to have parking very close.
The kitchen is a decent size and the rooms are all big. The beds were not particularly comfortable and none of the toilets or bathrooms had locks on them. The supplies were not great as even the spare kitchen roll had only two pieces on it. I have no issue with not providing spare kitchen roll, but to leave that seemed really weird. Two of the outside chairs were broken and the stairs also seemed to need some work as they were not so easy to use.
We, admittedly foolishly, forgot to bring a sheet for the cot which is fine. However, we were told to look for a spare sheet to put on but there didn't seem to be any.
I know it seems petty but the laminate flooring by the front doorstep is also broken as you go in. It just doesn't give an amazing first impression.
- Mary (8/5): - We loved the location, and the house was very close to all amenities and spacious. The cleanliness of the property wasn't great. We found false nails on the floor in the sitting room by the sofa. Some of the towels had makeup on. The bath had to be cleaned before we were able to use it. The fan in the bedroom on the top floor was covered in dust and also had dead flies on the floor. Window sills had dead flies on them as well.
- Dale (10/5): - the house is very specious, clean and well presented there was an issue with the showers. you couldnt have them running at the same time which needs looking into
- Elaine (10/5): - The location was fantastic. The house 🏠 is fabulous 👌. P The road noise from the front bedrooms. Wouldn't put me off staying again. Bring earplugs.
- Andy (9/5): Superb - Great location beautiful house More parking
- Jeremy (8/5): Excellent location, well equipped and comfortable - Superb location. We were there for a Chester race meeting and it was a comfortable stroll from the house to the racecourse. A similar distance to Chester centre as well. 5 minute taxi journey from rail station. Located beside quite a busy road but noise never an issue. Spacious bedrooms Water pressure is low - the top floor en-suite shower would not work if someone else was having a shower downstairs. Not an issue for us, but property is on 3 floors so top floor bedrooms would not be suitable for all
- Clare (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent in all areas Nothing
- Lisa (7/5): Great location but some TLC required - Superb location and excellent communication from the staff. A bonus to get a parking space. All amenities included. Lovely, big, spacious rooms. The house needs a lot of TLC. The house was grubby in parts, particularly the doors and walls.
For the price, I was expecting higher quality finish like the photos show.
- Sally (7/5): Good - The kitchen and lounge were well equipped. The general cleanliness wasn't great with lots of dust and stains in places, and lots of wear and tear evident with damp smells in some places.
The mattresses on some of the beds were VERY uncomfortable, sagged significantly in the middle. Some of us hardly slept and one ended up moving to a sofa in the lounge as her bed was so uncomfortable.
There are no locks on any bathroom doors.
When I contacted the owners to flag these problems I was advised that no-one had ever complained about the beds before, but having looked at some of the other reviews this is not the case. Several have commented on the uncomfortable beds and the dip in the beds. Disappointing.
- Claire (8/5): Massive house over 3 floors everything you need x - The property is a great location for the races. The rooms are massive. You get parking for one car but there is parking either side of the house on pay and display The front bedrooms were very noisy on the main road but lovely all the same.
- Louise (8/5): A lovely house and great location - The house was so lovely, very very spacious in every room and very comfortable beds.
It was easy to find and a great location to bars, restaurants and the centre of Chester.
Communication with Jen was really good. There was a few things unfortunately:
1) The parking, yes it has parking at the property but a very very tight space which other cars can park opposite on a very narrow road. The only way I could get out was to reverse onto a main road. I was unable to park in this space. There is a car park near the house but chargeable.
2) It does have a drainage smell in the house unfortunately.
3) it is very noisy in the front bedrooms and the lounge due to the main road
- Sahidah (7/5): Spacious but needs a some TLC - Very spacious, plenty of space for eight people. Also lovely to have the terrace to sit out on a sunny day. I’m afraid rather disappointed with quite a few things considering what we paid for this place!
1. you really need to re-decorate the marks on the walls on the ceiling - very disappointed to see this on entry to the kitchen, and in one of the bedrooms !
2. it appears two people can’t use the showers at the same time, so you have to schedule showers - sort of defeats the object of having two showers!
3. You need to check your wine and champagne glasses, if the house is for eight people you should have eight of each!
4. I think the property is looking rather warm and needs to be re-decorated, and some TLC as one of the previous guests wrote!
- Julie (9/5): Great Find - Perfect location. Bedrooms are huge, came with 3 friends so we had a bedroom each. The kitchen is spacious & fabulous to socialise in. Little outdoor area is a suntrap. Bed linen towels & everything we used was spotlessly clean. Would definitely return Needs some redecorating & a good spring clean
- Amanda (7/5): Good stay overall but feel there are a few things to be improved. - Nice kitchen and 3 of the bedrooms. Very spacious.
Good location but very noisy if sleeping at the front of the house. Water went off if both showers on at the same time. The water pressure was really poor.
Kitchen cupboards dirty near the sink fat splashed around cooker.
4th bedroom mattress needs replacing
Yard area very tired and chairs uncomfortable
- Diane (9/5): Ideal - Great house. Excellent location. Nice to have a court yard garden. Perfect for girls weekend Showers bit tricky due to water pressure. Could only use 1 at a time
- Laura (8/5): Enjoyed the stay. Needs a little bit of tlc - Great location, comfy beds and nice decor Looking tired in places.
Kitchen laminate floor broken needs replacing, stained ceiling in kitchen from a previous leak and there’s a damp smell in the property
- Chaz (6/5): Chester big style - Geographic location with access to city center Too big for a party of 5 ,needs a little tlc for a better rating ,No terrestrial tv too noisy near main road ,even deliveroo couldnt find it better signage
- Carol (8/5): Excellent 3 storey charater house acroos the main road from the centre of Chester - Great central location
Huge bedrooms
Comfy beds
Large kitchen
Ice cubes in freezer
Bath
Character building
Decor
Free parking for 1 car
£6:50 24hrs for the other Smell in lounge and hall
Stain on sheet
Not enough toilet paper
Noise of traffic
- Paul (8/5): Very good - Perfectly placed and lots of room for a party of 7
- Natalie (10/5): Excellent property - Excellent location right in the heart of Chester. Accommodation is an amazing three story house. 4 extremely large bedrooms. Went with the girls to celebrate 50th birthdays, and we would definitely book again.
- John (10/5): 4 night stay in half term February - Wonderful location,,5 min walk to city centre, fantastic sized bedrooms, 4tvs,great for the kids, lovely kitchen! Nothing
- Sue (7/5): Great location, lovely decorated property with all amenities and helpful host - loved the decor, space and location was spot on. Was on a main road so a bit noisy and had a little trouble with the heating but the host was very attentive and helpful. Noisy in front bedrooms due to being on main road and problem with heating. Would be better with a fire to warm the main rooms up as an old large property which needed time to warm up, especially in cold weather which it had been.
- Yvonne (9/5): Great location easy access to all shops and places to visit - As it was a rented house we went out for all our meals Nothing it was better than we expected.
- Andy (9/5): Superb -
- Valerie (10/5): A great find. - What a brilliant house. Fantastic large bedrooms, comfortable lounge and well equipped kitchen. Great location, only 5 mins from town centre. Would highly recommend it.
- Darren (8/5): great place, very clean and excellent location. just needs locks on the bathroom and toilet doors - excellent location. no locks on bathroom doors
- Lucy (8/5): Fab clean apartment in central location - Close proximity to centre of Chester.
Parking space included
Big kitchen area to socialise Was a bit cold and drafty.
- Nicola (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pugh (9/5): Chilled girlie stay, lovely base , 2 minute walk to shops - Lots of room, near the town
Having tea, coffee, sugar and sachet milk was a lovely touch Some rooms could do with mirror, but mirror on landing.
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shiona (10/5): A perfect venue to explore Chester. - Very spacious and homely. The kitchen/ dining room is very bright and spacious and a lovely place to relax. The bedrooms are very spacious and the beds very comfortable. The house was ideal for our little reunion- easy walking distance into historic centre , Chester Market just across the road.
Great communication with the owners who were also very helpful.
- Anna (7/5): Nice house but too noisy - Closeness to city centre On a very noisy main road
- Sophie (9/5): A relaxing recharge. - The communication was amazing!! The hosts were so friendly and helpful. The location was amazing and it was a fab property for our mini moon. Just the noisy road kept us up but that’s the only downfall.
- Paula (10/5): Wonderful -
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Kevin (9/5): Great family guest house in a ideal location with everything you need inside - Location was fantastic and accommodated our large group easily Nothing
- Hasina (8/5): Perfect location, very big house, great tradition town house - Location, plenty space for kids to play and run around. Poor wifi, some tv didn’t work and one particular bed wasn’t comfortable needs new mattress.
- Ann (10/5): We had a lovely stay in Chester and would highly recommend Augustus house for any big group! - Property was clean excellent location and ideal for the size of our group
- Sara (10/5): Fantastic stay in a fabulous house with friends. - The house was absolutely stunning, huge beautiful rooms, we had a fabulous weekend. The hosts were lovely and were so accommodating.
- Melanie (5/5): Disappointed family stay - The property is a great location and is min away from all city Centre attractions.
Just accross the road was the old Market and what a gem this was. It has been converted into food and drinks experience . Highly recommend How pictures can be decieving
Firstly the house smelt damp and maybe comes with a house this age !!! (We bought reed diffusers to help)
The decor was very tired and could do with some updates , stair carpet was very dirty especially on the stairs . Walls and doors marked and scuffed
Main issue was that the mattress on the Bed in the 1st floor front room was collapsed and we could feel the springs causing us very poor sleep leaving us feeling tired and not refreshed
The house discription should be much clearer that the property is on a very busy main road that never sleeps.
I was very disappointed with the cleanliness especially in the kitchen , large Damp area on the wall and general cleanliness was poor.
One thing I would say is the attention to detail such as rusty bin, rusty toilet roll holders, old and used plates . These are easily replaced from places like home bargains / Ikea and would make all the difference.
My daughter had a glass of wine and the smell was foul, after investigating it was the wine glass . There is just no need at all
For the cost of two nights we could have stayed in the Grovesner Hotel for not much more. It just feels like the company don’t use any profits to upkeep the property
- Kelly (8/5): Great location, clean & modern, excellent communication 10/10 - Modern, clean great location. Small garden had a few broken chairs looked slightly run down but wasn’t an issue as we still had fantastic stay just didn’t want anyone to think damage was caused by us.
- Mark (8/5): Great thanks - Location was great. House itself was really good. I googled its erm...interesting history! I kept looking for hands on the kitchen clock !!!!!!!
- Ellen (8/5): Fabulous space for a gathering of friends , sociable kitchen area, bedroom spaces were excellent - Location to Chester town centre
Spacious and great for a group stay
Kitchen space
Car parking space Only 1 of the TV remotes had batteries
- Ben (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rhian (8/5): A lovely house in a fantastic location for all the town’s amenities. We had a fantastic time and communication and respo - Location. Bedrooms. Lounge smelled of stale smoke but fortunately we used the kitchen to socialise. Tv’s weren’t tuned in and no batteries for remote in tge kitchen
- Leanne (8/5): Very good -
- Victoria (7/5): I very much enjoyed our time here but feel that the house would really benefit from a little spruce up in places. - The property was very spacious and was an ideal location for getting into the town centre. I do not think that it was made clear on the listing that the house is located directly off the main road which is incredibly busy all night long. I personally live directly off a main road and so am used to noise at night time but this was incredibly loud and non stop. Myself and my daughter struggled to sleep.
I also felt that the house needed a little bit of TLC - some light fittings needed replacing prior our stay and some maintenance such as holes in the walls in the main bathroom, skirting coming away in the kitchen need some work.
- Joanne (8/5): Fabulous location, very spacious rooms, with the added bonus of a parking space. - Fabulous location, great sized rooms. Lovely kitchen/dining space A little bit tired in some areas.
- Harriet (8/5): Very good - Loved the open plan kitchen and cosy living room and the massive bedrooms.
It's in a great location with lots right on your doorstep. Really, there is no need to cook as I could get everything delivered, which was a new experience for us as we live in the countryside. The house was very cold on arrival with small children it took a while for the heating to kick in and get to a nice temp.
It was very windy when we stayed, and the windows did bang waking up myself and kids up throughout the 2nd night.
Also felt the mattress was quite thin.
But overall, a lovley property and we would return as it's in a great location.
- Rebecca (9/5): Great location, lovely house, perfect for a group of friends - The location was great, just a short walk to the centre of town. Decor in the house is lovely, the size of the bedrooms are perfect, and everything available was as you'd want it. One of the beds had a huge dip in the middle so quite uncomfortable, and the en suite literally cuts water off if someone runs water in the bathroom below so you can get caught mid shower!
- Alan (10/5): Fantastic place - Amazing place and location! Nothing
- Belinda (9/5): Great place to stay with a large family, easy walk into town. Great communication with any issues. - Great location, large rooms, wifi that works., fully equipped kitchen. Some of the mattresses were a bit uncomfortable and the front rooms were a little noisy but it is on a main road.
- Mark (8/5): Great for groups and all amenities on your doorstep - Location was superb
Plenty space Could do with updating in few places and WiFi was poor
But in general not a issue
- Elizabeth (9/5): Great house / base for chester 👌 will be planning our next trip soon - Decor gorgeous
location good
great space/ size great for get togethers
owners answered our questions really quickly ( even the stupid ones) Its a Brilliant house so very little to say maybe a little noisy as it next to a busy road
And it could do with a couple extra chairs for the kitchen( even if they were just foldaway ones)
- Emma (9/5): Superb -
- Chris (9/5): Superb - Great location and communication from owners. House is a great base for a stay in chester and visiting surrounding areas. Very noisey due to traffic on main road.
- Andrew (10/5): Best value place I've ever stayed in. - Huge place, clean comfortable and superb location. There's nothing not to like
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional - Great location parking and huge rooms
- Kris (9/5): Superb -
- Emma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jodie (10/5): Absolutely wonderful stay - everything about this property was fantastic. it was huge and spacious, facilities were amazing. 2 minute walk to the town centre. beds we’re comfortable and the bedrooms were massive. there is absolutely nothing we disliked.
- Bethany (5/5): Great location but disappointed about cleanliness of house. - Great location House not clean - dust and cobwebs around the house.
Taps broken in main bathroom made them hard to use.
Kitchen plates not clean.
No reply from host when email received asking how stay was going.
- Lisa (5/5): Passable - The location was handy for the town centre although the house was on a very busy main road so there was lots of traffic noise. The house looked fabulous on the pictures but it was rather tired and there were lots of cobwebs and dust as well as things not working, dirty toilets and trailing wires. For the price that we paid for a special weekend we were disappointed. I have emailed the company that owns the property and received no response which says to me that are not interested in all of the issues we encountered even though they asked for my feedback on the first night.
- Lynne (8/5): Very good -
- Sarah (10/5): amazing location and helpful staff - space cobwebs
- Kelly (9/5): really lovely space for our yearly Christmas trips. lots of equipment. - lovely property with original features, relaxing space and great location. nothing
- Amanda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (10/5): I would 💯 recommend this property and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again in the future. The hosts were also so helpful and - The house really is so beautiful! The bedrooms are HUGE, so much space. We loved the position being that it was a stones throw from the city centre. It was spotlessly clean and we had everything we needed, only wish we could of stayed longer :) The front two bedrooms were a little noisy with traffic BUT this is to be expected with a central location… the back rooms were silent, so light sleepers go for those ;)
- Sandra (10/5): Exceptional -
- Debra (10/5): Only a short walk to the city centre & amenities - Private Parking - Instructions were emailed to us the day before travelling down & straight forward enough. Fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, free WiFi beautifully decorated throughout There was nothing not to like about the property. Our stay was slightly spoilt has our main reason for staying in Chester was we had booked to go to the AutumnRacing Event - this cancelled at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances - so because of this we just decided to make the most of our stay in Chester
- Anonymous (9/5): Brilliant and peaceful, family is very happy - specious , clean , homely, warm WiFi slow but everything else is brilliant
- Nichola (10/5): Exceptional -
- Katie (10/5): Exceptional - lovely modern spacious house in walking distance to Chester centre.
- Louise (10/5): perfect for what we wanted and needed for our stay 😊 - The amount of space was unbelievable! Absolutely huge and perfect for a large group as you can all hang out together but also go off to your room and relax.
Decor was nice and modern and little extras there like kitchen items and ice in the fridge! I can’t fault it really but if I had to pick something… we couldn’t find a broom or mop which said it was located in the kitchen cupboard but it wasn’t. So quite hard to clear up before we left.
- Ursula (10/5): Exceptional - Spacious, clean and in a great location! On a noisy road, as there are original sash windows, bedrooms and sitting room on street side were noisy from 6 am. However, the kids slept through and weren't bothered.
- David (9/5): Superb -
