Guest Reviews
- Niklas Max (7/5): Modest experience and we’d come back any time - Nice authentic place, clean but simple room, onsen just down the floor This place is a pearl, a little renovation and it will be fantastic
- Melanie (9/5): - The host was lovely and caring. We appreciated the private onsen and the close location to the cable car. The room was very nice. Yukayas are provided.
- Esau Alessandro (8/5): -
- Hanns (8/5): -
- Ferielle (10/5): -
- Mantas (10/5): -
- Emma (9/5): - Loved the location, beautiful hot spring, and friendly staff. It is home-like and you feel like you can deeply relax.
- Kin Chun (8/5): - Rooms we're great, onsens we're really nice Could be a little bit more cleaning though, time are not cleaned and towels should be replaced after 2 days
- Sebastian (8/5): -
- Takuya (7/5): -
- Janine (7/5): Host was friendly and helpful. Reasonably priced. - We really enjoyed using the onsen and had no trouble booking it. Our host was friendly and kindly arranged a reservation at a local restaurant, which even offered a complimentary pick-up and drop-off service. The location was convenient—just a short distance from the cable car and close to a nearby bus stop. Our room was clean. This ryokan was reasonably priced for a family of three.
- Oscar (9/5): -
- Lukáš (10/5): -
- James (9/5): - The private onsen The heater for the room was not working well
- Joseph (10/5): Lovely - 3x private Onsens, all very good after a long day's walking! Staff are super nice. I asked about a longer walk to do and one staff member printed out lots of map pages for a walk to do. Microwaves kettles etc to use for making food up. It's not really got any food or drink places nearby. They sell some drinks/beer/super noodles downstairs you can purchase (not many) but bring stuff from a supermarket and when you go out, go out for the day. Not an issue if you know in advance.
An on site breakfast option would be nice (e.g., pastry and coffee)
- Pichaya (8/5): Affordable Stay with Private Onsen Option - This place is reasonably priced and offers good value. The room includes a private toilet, while the shower is located in a shared onsen area.
One of the main reasons we chose to stay here was the option to reserve a time slot for the onsen, which allows for a more private experience without having to share with others — a great advantage. As for the service, our experience was mixed. One female staff member seemed a bit unfriendly, although we checked in late but still within the allowed check-in hours, so we’re not entirely sure of the reason — it might have been due to the time or a language barrier. However, the male staff member was very welcoming and attentive, with a warm and friendly attitude.
- Ravikiran (1/5): Would not go again. - Room heating
Luggage storage.
Mount Fuji view from the bus stop Location is very far from town. Cannot walk. Public transport frequency is poor hence cannot got to local shops or market.
Luggage forwarding not available
Common bathroom for all rooms.
Very dirty shower.
Bath wasn't working.
No handwash in room.
No response to messages.
Had to make international roaming call to talk to host.
- Amanda (10/5): Wish we could have stayed longer. - It’s perfect, as a family of four we really enjoyed our stay. Great facilities and friendly owners.
- jason (8/5): - Clean, quiet and comfortable. A bit of a trek to get to, the cable cars etc take an age.
- Rubén (10/5): - Everything was great—I'd just add the option of regular pillows for those who prefer them over rice pillows.
- Yajnaseni (10/5): Loved the stay and it justifies the price as well. Onsen is good and property well maintained - Very well maintained and the host is very good. The onsen experience was amazing and the rooms were excellent. Would definitely recommend this property. Can’t find any

- Allison (7/5): Was a comfortable budget stay for a night. - Close to bus stop to Lake Ashi for ropeway and pirate ship. Had a clear view of Mt Fuji from the carpark! Onsen was nice. Beds were comfortable. Staff was helpful. Mobile coverage was very lagged which made google maps hard to use to find the place.
- William (10/5): -
- Justin (10/5): - The staff spoke great English, it was as advertised and I’m shocked they don’t charge more.
- yunus (10/5): -
- Marta (9/5): - The people running it were great Would be amazing to have a Japanese breakfast available
- Marta (9/5): -
- Kenta (9/5): -
- Peter (6/5): Try to keep up the standards, please. - The hot spring water was very nice. Although there are two hot springs which are advertised and should be available any time, they closed one of them because they said there were not enough guests, which made it rather inconvenient because while other guests were using it, we couldn't. They should keep them both open, as other hotels do.

- Tatjana (7/5): Thrue Japan, Fuji, and something wrong 😑 - This is a traditional Japanese ryokan that is going through not the best of times. However, partial renovation is currently underway and it does not disturb guests in any way. Everything is quite simple, but immaculately clean. The staff speak excellent English, gave us a tour, showed everything, and explained how it works.
The room has air conditioning, so it was warm and comfortable. The ryokan has three onsen baths: one outdoor (covered) and two indoor. Guests are asked to reserve a time for the outdoor onsen at reception, while the indoor ones are available on a first-come basis when the door is open. In practice, we only used the outdoor onsen once — sometimes the water was too hot, other times the heater in the changing area was not working. In our experience, the indoor onsen were much better, and there was never any problem accessing them.
There is no real infrastructure nearby, but if you book a table at the nearest restaurant, they will send a shuttle to pick you up. Another option is to come prepared by buying ready-made food in advance, which can be reheated in the microwave in the lobby.
It takes almost an hour to get there by bus from the train station, and the last bus is around 8:00 p.m. Along the lake, buses stop running at 5:30 p.m. (in November). During the daytime there are no transport issues — buses run fairly often, but they are expensive. If you plan to stay for more than one day, purchasing the Hakone Pass is highly recommended, as it offers significant savings on transportation and eliminates the need to queue at ticket offices. Everything is quite old; it can be difficult to regulate the water temperature in the onsen, and the heaters do not always work.

- Žiga (10/5): - We loved the onsen, the staff was super friendly, the bus stop is relatively near.
- Erik (10/5): Peaceful stay close to the nature, with private onsen - - Traditional setting
- Quiet and peaceful location, close to the nature
- Onsen was great, 30 mins private bathing was guaranteed in the night, and another 30 mins in the morning before checking out
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Although the place does not offer dinner or breakfast, the staff can help arranging a ride to the nearby restaurants during the evening if you fancy eating out None. I have read some negative reviews, which I could not experience myself. I think the room is in a good condition, the futon bed was comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay.
- Irene (4/5): - The location was pretty good if you travelled with car. The staff was very friendly. There was a lot of humidity and it smelled like wet wood. The facilities are too old, they should do some remodeling. The experience was not pleasant.
- Daniel (8/5): -

- Jerry (9/5): - Perfect for a family
The private onsen was nice
- dan (4/5): Friendly staff, great location, has onsen, room is fair - smells musty. Requires a lot of udating. - No breakfast, location good, bathroom updated. Needs enormous updating, musty smell overall.

- BT_Orion (10/5): A great choice for a family with kids! - Our stay was a great experience. The staff was really friendly and helpful, especially towards kids. They have beautiful kid size yukatas and lots of plushy toys. Children feel really welcome there. It's not very modern, but we didn't care. The room was nice and comfortable and the onsen was sooo pleasant, we're glad we could have enjoyed it twice, in the evening and in the morning. Would love to go back one day! There are no restaurants or shops nearby, but you can buy some noodles and snacks in the ryokan and the staff could help you order some food, so even if you are not prepared, you should be fine.

- Orfeas (10/5): Couple stay in Hakone Ryokan - Amazing place in a good location in Hakone. The ladies and staff were really helpful and curated to our needs. The onsen bath was amazing and very relaxing. We hope to visit again.
- Laura (10/5): Perfect getaway from the city - We wanted to stay one night, but then decided to stay two nights instead, because there are nice things to do there. 30 minutes walk is a lake with tourist acitivities (boat ride, ropeway up the volcanic mountain) and you can hike, see Mount Fuji and enjoy nature.
We came in the summer time, so it wasn't crowded and we had the place almost to ourselves. The onsen was not in demand as it was summer, but I still enjoyed to dip my feet in there and take a cold shower with a nice view.
There is a direct bus going there from Tokyo and yet it is very quiet and completely in nature. It's not advisable to go out after dark, as there is nothing to do. Luckily, there are many activities to do indoors (massage chair, table tennis, piano, gym).
You also have to plan ahead for dinner and either bring your own or order ahead for delivery with reception for 5pm. Worst case, they sell instant noodles.
- Alison (6/5): An adventure and hilarious stories to tell!! - Onsen was delightful. Room large and beautiful outlook into the trees! Good location and easy to get on the tourist bus. Dinner, had to book through host and they picked up & dropped off, food was incredible! Stay was ok & interesting!! Hard to find. Got told wrong stop number, then google maps sent us on a wild up hill track. Asked for help and person didn’t speak English, but was our host (visibly very intoxicated). Host wasn’t around much & other guests found check in difficult.
- Mathieu (2/5): avoid at all cost! - The owner seemed nice. Traditional should not mean run down. I have no idea why the comments on this place were so positive. It was dirty, run down, futons were low quality and uncomfortable. The onsen was nothing like the pictures. it is located rather far from everything. We paid for 2 nights however we stayed only one night… still hoping for a refund for the second night. Steer clear from this place.
- Abigail (10/5): Favorite place I’ve ever stayed at! - Very traditional, clean, and nice staff Big spider in my room
- Jerome (10/5): Exceptional -
- Debarati (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carmen (8/5): Step back in time - Staff friendly but needed google translator to communicate. Room clean, newly updated with comfortable futon and toilet and wash basin within the room. Enclosed area in the room with table and chairs was lovely for meals overlooking the trees. Three onsens were enjoyable and included toiletries and hairdryer. Free parking. Internet photos are not current as the public areas are a little rundown, dated and used for storage. The microwave didn't work but staff kindly heated the food in their own kitchen. Additional cost to guests for onsens. Need a car to get to food store or restaurants.
- Peter (8/5): Good, easy Ryokan with onsen experience - Very good instructions from our hosts, both to get there and about using the onsens, etc. Lovely onsens and comfortable, quiet Japanese-style rooms in green surroundings.
Snack food can be bought on site and some food delivery seemed to be possible.
- Anatolii (10/5): Great experience - It was a great experience to stay in an authentic ryokan. Situated in 20 min by foot or 5 min by bus from the beautiful Ashi lake with a view to Fuji. The owner is very friendly - he organized a transfer for us for a dinner. And private onsen helped us rest and relax after a long day.
- Kendall (8/5): A lovely an agiradanke ryokan with a fantastic hot onsen and Fuji views. - Likes: the private onsen, the Fuji and district views.
Dislikes: no food provisions at the ryokan - all food must be brought in.
- Jason (8/5): Very good -
- Adam (6/5): Pleasant - The Onsen was very hot. Estimated at 45°C. I recommend adding cold tap water prior to entering.
They had a table tennis table which was good for the kids.
They had a parking spot for our hire car which was handy. Difficult to find.
No food locations close to the property so ensure you pickup a pre packaged meal from Lawson or 7/11 in the afternoon prior to arriving.
The traditional wheat beds are firm to say the least.
- Polanco (10/5): Exceptional - The receptionist was sincere and hardworking. The parking lot.
- Arlz (1/5): Bad -
- Nino (10/5): Very welcoming and cozy stay - Very welcoming, cozy, clean environment! We loved everything.
- Shambhuraje (9/5): Superb -
- Jasmine (8/5): Very good -
- Alexey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kimberly (1/5): Great location but needs TLC - The location was great, close to the bus stop. The staff were helpful. The place was run down, dusty, lost of cob webs everywhere on the ceilings. Couldn’t use the onsen as it smelt. We struggled to sleep in the room as it was musty and it smelt. We slept with our face mask on because of the dust and mould. We stayed out till late and our group left early to avoid staying in the room. The staff were very helpful. In the early days this place would be amazing just need some TLC..
- Pooi (8/5): Nice ryokan with beautiful onsen - The environment is very relaxing. The room is clean. I like the onsen so much, and we have a good sleep after enjoy the onsen. No
- Price (4/5): Quality of accommodation is reflective of the price. - Hot springs were good Bit tired and warn and could do with a facelift.
Futons were very thin and uncomfortable
- Luis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ania (8/5): One night stay - Room was big an comfy, onsen is very nice to relax From outside it didn't look good. Little cold in room.
