Guest Reviews
- Shaun (8/5): - Amazing staff and food. Breakfast each day was amazing. Just be aware it is 1/2 a block from the main square. That's awesome and not so awesome as it can be a little loud if your room is facing the street.
- Bev (9/5): - Small hotel with good location and family atmosphere Very small tv
- Gordon (8/5): Would stay again - Good location. Nice rooms. I liked the layout. Enjoyed the breakfast and the discount Very friendly reception. Long time to get hot water in shower one morning.
- Juan Diego (10/5): Excelente opción y por supuesto para volver al mismo hotel. - La atención del personal, la comodidad del cuarto, el clima y la ubicación. Nada que decir al respecto. Solamente 10/10
- Donna (10/5): Love this property and the staff - I love the staff, they are the nicest bunch of hard working people. Always smiling and ready to help in any way possible.
The food is great, salmon beautiful, steak melts in your mouth. The children tend to be very noisy and it is disturbing to hear them scream in the restaurant. This should never happen in the restaurant or lobby as every room can hear the noise
- Mary (9/5): This place is a complete gem in every way. You can't go wrong in Ajijic by booking a stay here. - The staff were completely wonderful, personable and hospitable. The breakfast menu was varied and delicious. We stayed an entire month and were always excited to order every morning because there were so many delicious options. The location was superb, easy walking to almost everything we did in the town. The rooms at the very front of the hotel can be a bit noisy during times of festivities out on the street, (or when the jazz bar across the street has a band and a full crowd... often great music honestly,) but almost every night where that was an issue, it was quiet by 11pm. If you are a person who needs quiet earlier in the evening, ask for a room in the back courtyard (which is completely delightful)!!!
- Marilyn (9/5): We really enjoyed our hotel stay. The staff is delightful. We felt entirely safe in the community. - The hotel has a lovely restaurant where guests obtain an included breakfast. The allowance for breakfast is very generous and the available options are varied and delicious. There are local options and options for U.S. visitors. My group is used to having coffee available earlier than 8:30 a.m. On the other hand, coffee options (American and French Press) were very nice. The only issue we had was with noise in the evenings. Rooms in the front of the hotel are adjacent to the street where there can be a lot of sound from the lively streets, bars, fiestas, etc. For the most part the sound died down between 9 and 10 p.m. but there were several nights where it was pretty noisy for longer.
- Cheryl (10/5): - The staff was wonderful and professional In every sense of the word.
The food was delicious! Booking.com charged me way over what was originally agreed to. Not happy about that so I will be looking into it further.
- Kathlyn (8/5): -
- paul (9/5): I highly recommend this hotel - The location is excellent. The breakfast could be improved and more generous. The breakfast

- Juan Pablo (10/5): - Todo el hotel su personal muy amables habitaciones muy cómodas y bonito y céntrico sí volvería nos agradó
- Richard (9/5): - A lovely place to stay. The staff are very friendly. The fireworks for the festival that continued all night.

- Barry (10/5): Casa Yollotzyn was a very big part of my falling in love with Ajijic - The staff were friendly / unbelievable. After a couple of days I felt like family. The food was very good and the location was perfect, I highly recommend it. Excellent value for the money. Bigger bathroom, but that was my choice.
- William Reginald (8/5): Great location. Nice place. Would stay again. - Great location. New. Sterile.
- Danyelle (9/5): -
- Jon (8/5): - The staff was super friendly and attentive. The room was clean and comfortable Because it’s close to the town square, there was noise at night from the holiday celebrations. I recommended staying there during non-holiday times unless you don’t mind noise from the square at night.
- Danyelle (8/5): The staff was amazing !!! - Perfect location close to everything
- Chris (10/5): Worth it - Good location, good staff, nice comfortable room

- Rick (9/5): It was a very enjoyable and peaceful stay. - For the most part I loved my stay at the hotel. The staff were very friendly and attentive. When things were extremely busy, it could sometimes be a little hard to get all the attention I hoped for, but overall I would rate the service as 10 out of 10 most of the time and still an 8 or 9 out of 10 during the busy times. What I didn't like had nothing to do with the hotel. I was a little disappointed that most of the people in the area with whom I was able to interact were expats who did not speak Spanish — nor did they WANT to speak Spanish. I found this disappointing as one of the primary reasons I had gone to the area was to improve and practice my Spanish language skills.
- Middleton (10/5): - I loved the staff. Everyone was so polite and very informative! I felt like family to the staff. I LOVED THE LOCATION VERY MUCH. EVERYTHING WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE! I didn't like the fact that booking lied about the total charges of my stay! I thought I paid for all the nights we stayed. At the reception desk, I had to pay more for the room. BOOKING.COM DISAPPOINTED ME, NOT THE HOTEL
- Stephanie (10/5): F A B U L O U S ! - Beautiful property and the adjacent restaurant has a delicious menu. Everyone is so nice here!!!
- William (10/5): The friendly and kind family that runs this amazing hotel clearly takes their work seriously. - Beautiful architectural details were present throughout this immaculately kept property. Really a stunning, family run hotel. The staff treated guests like family and called everyone by name. Friendly chats occured here and there throughout the day. Pointers for navigating the town were freely given. This is clearly a family that enjoys it's business and strives to be the best it can. The beds and rooms were very comfortable as well as spotless. I would really have to search long and hard to find an area for improvement - but why? This family cares about their guests and that's really hard to find these days. Congratulations on a job well done.
- Gina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shikydaniaz (10/5): Wonderful, clean room with a very comfortable bed. - Delicious complimentary coffee service in the morning. Very clean room. Walkable and safe location.
Very comfortable bed.
Sufficient toiletries supply
Nice variety on the TV in English and Spanish Booking stated free breakfast. At the property they said it was actually a 200 peso voucher to be used on the a la carte menu which of course didn't cover the breakfast at all.
Before leaving I asked the bartender to make us a couple of drinks that they had offered us the day before and we had also purchased the next morning.
Even if we were obviously paying for them and he had the ingredients to make it he said he couldn't because he'd have to make a full 5 gallon jug of it. I guess he just didn't want to wash the blender.
The room didn't have a/c so it was very hot until around midnight that the temperature started dropping a little but by 8am we were out of the bed because it was very hot again.
- Elizeth (10/5): - Me pareció un hermoso lugar, tiene restaurant, barra pero sobretodo que descansas delicioso. Muchas gracias ☺️☺️☺️
- Michael (5/5): Beds are stiff and basic. No air conditioning. - Breakfast was affordable. Way overpriced.
- Luis (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent staff and attention, great food, affordable and incredible location It would be better if the curtains in the door were blackout.
- Holadia (9/5): I'm so glad I decided to stay! Sweet spot. - The family/staff are great, very kind & helpful. Food was good. Much quieter than one would think for the center of town.
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marieka (10/5): Great experience - Lovely hotel. Delicious breakfast
- Debra (10/5): Excellent location, beautiful room & wonderful staff - Great staff, and restaurant is excellent. Room is lovely. The bed is quite firm and I am used to a soft mattress so that was an adjustment
- Sally (9/5): I’d go back again and plan to. The staff treated me like family. - I loved the location One night it was very hot but they brought me a fan.
- Susan (10/5): Perfect little hotel - Location and staff Nada
- Jaime (9/5): Superb -
- Isidore (9/5): Ideal location by any measure for a visit to Ajijic - The staff exceeded my expectations in every aspect location superb breakfast fantastic comfortable bed Different room the last two nights the first night never turned the exterior lights off so the room wasilluminated all night the second night a band was playing across the street until early morning hours
- Carrie (6/5): Nice hotel without heat - Quiet, beautiful family run hotel that made you feel right at home . Breakfast was great and French press coffee delivered to room a wonderful touch, but a bit late for me (8:15 or later) They gave 200 pesos a day for breakfast and you order from the menu. Lots of single travelers, I felt very comfortable and safe. Cold!!! No heaters, my room was about 58 as Ajijic was 50 overnight, 70 or lower during day (lancha room) and my room in the shade. Having to sit around wrapped in blankets or jackets ruined any enjoyment of the room. My friend booked directly with hotel after me, paid 40% less & got a room with fireplace (ocasa room) so could warm a little. When I checked in I paid for an upgrade, mistake, which cancelled my booking.com reservation so I didn’t get any loyalty perks but hotel saved 25%.
- Yolanda (10/5): Precioso hotel y la mejor ubicación - Muy bonito hotel y excelente atención. Sin duda me volveré a hospedar. Aparte el desayuno muy vasto y delicioso!
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional - The rooms are great as is the restaurant and the staff are exceptional Central location with old charm
- Agustin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Annemarie (9/5): Great stay at Casa Yollotzin - Loved the location close to the main square.
Loved hard working and friendly management and staff as well as the delicious meals... Nothing
- Steven (9/5): The main takeaway was that all staff were committed to assuring that all guest needs were met. - The on site restaurant was excellent for breakfast and for lunch and dinner. More serving staff at dinner.
- Karen (6/5): Pleasant - Location location location, place has some charm, good breakfast options Shower took ages to heat up, room was cold and drafty, blankets weren't great, noisy neighbors blasting music, cleaners skipped a day of cleaning our room without asking or informing us that they wouldn't or couldn't do it that day.
- Luis (9/5): Superb -
- Drucker (10/5): Amazing hotel in center of town! - Very friendly, family business. Central location, great restaurant ( breakfast imcluded).
Very friendly staff. They go out of their way to make you comfortable. Even invited me to family party in the restaurant! NO hotels in Ajijic have heat!
- Edward (10/5): Good value at comfortable hotel with good breakfast and central location - Nicely decorated, clean, comfortable room in small cozy hotel. Good breakfast with menu of choices. Walk to lake, restaurants, sites. No complaints
- Duran (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marissa (6/5): Mixed bad - Breakfasts and dinner were good. Service and rooms were good, though only an overhead fan to cool us down. Location is brilliant. There was very little water during our staty. It was not the hotel's fault but it marred our stay hugely.
- Sally (9/5): I would return! - 150-year-old building that had been recently renovated they did a great job beautiful Mexican tile excellent bathroom facilities restaurant food was good There was an uncomfortable moment at check in concerning balance due and exchange rates….then “a bait and switch”would you like a better room for only $10 more night? Or cancel your booking and you can have the upgrade. Hmmmm
- Delphine (10/5): Exceptional - Delightful
- Patricia (10/5): Very pleasant - Very unique and pretty We barely had hot water for showers
- Thomas (8/5): Great staff, great food, great location. - The people make this place work at a high level. They appear to be family, as a high functioning team often appears to be. But hey, they may be family (high-functioning, not dysfunctional) and that makes it work well. They all seem invested in the success of the hotel and I believe they will achieve their goal. Whenever we had a request (for information, taxis, ice, whatever), they accommodated it. I learned more from the hotel manager (owner?) than I did from reading guide books. Location, location, location. My wife was limited in her mobility due to a surgical operation, but she was able to reach, on foot, all of the spots we hoped to visit. It is close to just about everything. The food is excellent. The breakfast was included and that is a significant addition to your stay. If the hotel fails (and I don't believe it will) the restaurant will succeed. I would not lay this negative part of the review at the feet of the hotel's staff. We were in the back room of the hotel and, unfortunately, there was construction going on next door to this room. That is outside of their control. We put up with the noise for a few days but gave up when the smell of the construction operation's "glue" (?), or whatever it was, became intolerable. After requesting a new room, they immediately moved us and our experience was greatly enhanced. We enjoyed our stay.
- Raedy4life (9/5): Superb -
- Felix (10/5): Lots of stray dogs and no hot showers - The staff is AMAZING! The facilities are more than enough for a solo traveler. All of the stray dogs on the street are hard to get used to, but they are not aggressive. A first time experience. The locals are very comfortable with the dogs.
- William (8/5): Perfect place to stay in Ajijic Centro. - The location and the shower. The restaurant, the breakfast was very limited to just eggs.
- Janis (9/5): Superb - We needed a respite from our power being out for several days, and this hotel was able to accommodate. Staff was so helpful and friendly, and the restaurant was great! Since we live here, not your typical tourists, but a great find we will be back to visit! At first, no handle for the cold water in the shower- immediately resolved after reporting.
- Cathy (10/5): One of the best vacations hands down!! - Casa Yol Casa Yollotzin is unmatched in the city of Ajijic.
Not only does the hotel have a ton of character, its restaurant, Mario’s, is hands down one of the best in the area. The staff are top notch. The owners, Eric and Fabian, run a tight ship and have trained their staff to run a very successful hotel/restaurant/bar business.
They are located in the heart of the town, a hop, skip and a jump to the plaza, literally, and the bank and taxis, and .25 miles down to the Malecon. And cute shops and restaurants along the way. (The Malecon is .5 mile one way and their are local vendors there every day)
Eric, who is also the head chef of Mario’s, prepared a traditional Mexican dish that is only served in August and September, Chile en Nogada, 10 out of 10! I’m telling you, this place and its staff are so much fun and so positive and upbeat, they are the reason we will come back. We felt like part of the family.
Every morning they brought coffee and tea to our room with a couple of cookies. What better way to start your day!
We tried a lot of things on Mario’s menu and loved everything, even their hamburger and french fries. It was very sad to say good-bye. I could go on and on. I consider anyone who stays very lucky to have this experience in their life😊
- Mary (9/5): Cover all your bases with a great value. - The staff was wonderful. The room was clean and efficient. The bathroom in my room was small with a small shower - not really a problem but a bit of a contortion - and the lighting very bad for a woman needing to put on makeup. (Unbalanced light so one side looks great and no idea how the other side looks lol)
Slept very comfortably in the bed and the ceiling fan was sufficient cooling. Bug free room.
Loved the French press morning coffee and very generous and delicious included breakfast options. Good service. Kind staff. Excellent location. No full length mirror in the room.
- George (6/5): Great location but the room was a dissapointment. Definately not worth the money. - The location is great and the breakfast is good. The shower door to the room allowed for the entire bathroom to flood and into the bedroom. No A/C, only a ceiling fan. TV is so small and high on the wall. There are other hotels I've stayed just a little further away which are much nicer and less cost.
- Emanuel (10/5): Wonderful and relaxing - The staff was great, very helpful and nice. The breakfast was great, and the French Press coffee and cookies taken to your room every morning exactly at the time you ask!!
- Leslie (10/5): Wonderful staff and a perfect location. The restaurant serves delicious food, especially the fabulous breakfasts. 10/ - Situated half a block from the jardin, lovely airy rooms, a good restaurant and charming and helpful staff make this a wonderful place to stay. I didn’t want to leave!
- Richmond (9/5): I loved staying at Casa Yollotzin. Great food, great location. Great staff. - Breakfast was amazing. The number of choices was very broad and all were delicious. Everything was very fresh. You could eat enough to keep you going the whole day. You could eat super healthily. French press coffee delivered to the room was also a nice touch.
- Paul (10/5): Good value atmosphere and location and friendly helpful staff! We will return! - Older building with Mexican feel.
Very clean and nicely laid out.
The staff from reception to night watch were exceptional!! Friendly accommodating. Did I forget to mention the food is fantastic!! No need to search for a good restaurant for dinner.
Breakfast is included and the coffee is great.
Within walking distance to the plaza and Malecon with many great shops along the way. Walmart is the best place and rates for banking.
I’d recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to visit the wonderful town of Ajijic! N/a
- Maggie (10/5): Will stay next time in Ajijic!! - Everyone was so nice and accommodating. Breakfast was excellent. We ate there one evening and tge food was outstanding. Highly recommend the hotel and restaurant No phones in room to communicate with other guests.
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Luis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carol (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maggie (10/5): Exceptional - Pictures don't do the hotel justice. The family owned hotel and restaurant are top shelve. The rooms are extremely clean and fresh water is supplied daily. The restaurant food is exceptional. French pressed Coffee was served to our rooms every morning. The restaurant offers a wide variety of entrées. One choice i enjoyed was the lamb shank. Also duck, as well as several fresh fish entrées. I highly recommend the hotel also for its central location. The entire family is very welcoming and warm. We will be back!! Oh yeah almost forgot the margaritas are fresh and yummy!! Only recommendation I have is to put a phone in the rooms.
- Amy (10/5): Exceptional -
- William (8/5): Very good -
- Becky (10/5): A clean and welcoming place to be your home base for your stay at Ajijic! - The food options were great and delicious! Make sure to try the aqua pina! The hotel is close to the Plaza and an easy walk to shops and attractions. My room was comfortable and clean. ALL of the staff were welcoming, gracious, and helpful The good news is that the restaurant is open-air, the bad news is that all the sound travels to the upper-level rooms. through the open courtyard. The best news is that the noise stops at about 930 pm, without fail every night!
- Ruth (10/5): Very nice!! - Very nice staff. Central location! Good food. Breakfast included!
- Krista (9/5): The staff were fantastic! They paid attention to detail and made us feel very welcome. - Great bed. Really cute place.
- Steve (9/5): Excellent location, helpful staff, delicious food! - The location of this B & B is just off the Principle Square and excellent for walking to all areas of Ajijic. The breakfast is first rate and in fact, they have a full service dining room with excellent food. My room was noisy because it was located off the street and above the restaurant. I would recommended asking for a room off the courtyard. As nightlife near the plaza calmed down, it was quiet.
- Karon (10/5): I will remember Casa Yollitzon and the people who run it as one of the best places I have visited. - My stay at Cassa Yollotzin was outstanding in every way The family who ran the hotel and every person who worked there went out of their way to take care of me. The service during every meal, including the delivery of coffee and sweets in the morning, was excellent, as was the food. This place is very special. I would come back many times to have this experience again. The location in the heart of Ajijic and steps to the main square were perfect. I am very grateful for a very special experience with wonderful people. Thank you. I will recommend Casa Yollotzin to others. Nothing.
- Joseph (8/5): Very good -
- Monica (10/5): Personable Boutique Hotel - A personable family run hotel & restaurant with amazing attention to customer needs e.g. honoured my diet restrictions in food prep, 'real' lemongrass tea to my room every am in a French Press with a homemade cookie. Location very convenient to many local sites.
Wish more businesses were run like Eric (owner) does with his operational oversight, staff relationships & customer focus, he truly is a leader par excellence!
Muchas gracias Eric & Team,
Monica Not a thing.
- Dorian (9/5): Lovely place, as long as you are in the back. - The family owned hotel was really nice. I was in the “pelican” room over the courtyard restaurant. It was really noisy with the usual restaurant noises and music until 10. Ask for a room in the back.
- P. (10/5): Charming spot close to everything in Ajijic - The restaurant was exceptional- one day of our stay we had 3 meals there! That is NOT our usual method of dining on vacation- we usually prefer to go out. But, it was that good! My husband even got a lesson in making omeletes from the chef.
- Jay (10/5): Wonderful experience at Casa Yollotzin in Ajijic - From the moment I walked in I was made to feel very welcome. I was greeted in English and Spanish. I understand and speak a little Spanish and they were patient with me, but were also able to communicate very well in English. Eric the chef (amazing food both traditional Mexican and a few French and Italian inspired dishes). French press coffee delivered with a cookie to my room every morning and also complementary a la carte breakfast in the dining room. Managers, servers and bartenders are all very nice. Servers Abraham and Adrian! Bartender Juan Manuel! All around man, Fabian. Cheers to Ana Cecilia and Jaime, too! There is nothing that I didn't like. I am accustomed to the sound of living, being in the center of a town. Come with an open mind that celebrations and daily life are exuberant
- Michelle (7/5): Nice friendly restaurant with great location - Coffee delivered to room every morning.
Friendly staff
Restaurant
Walkable location Sometimes noisy at night
- Theresa (10/5): 5 star property! - Ideal location, 3 minute walk to the Plaza. The hotel has authentic Mexican flare. Restaraunt was very nice, wonderful breakfast!
- Anna (9/5): Here you experience authentic sights, sounds and rhythms of an urban village life in Mexico. - The location is perfect to be in the middle of the hub-bub of the Village Plaza and very walkable to all attractive locations. The restaurant in the hotel is first class. Some of the best meals had there compare to excellent restaurants anywhere in the world. Family run and super friendly and helpful when in need of language assistance and finding taxis, and other assistance. Eric and crew are awesome Inn Keepers. French press coffee and delicious pastry delivered to your room at 8:30 am. If you need coffee earlier, you may have to make other arrangements. We bought a small coffee maker for our room and Eric delivered fresh bottled water just for us.
- Susana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Harry (8/5): Cold Ajijic - Newly renovated attractive décor friendly staff good bar restaurant No heat
- Anonymous (10/5): An absolute gem in Ajijic. - Casa Yollotzin is a charming and newly renovated boutique hotel. We loved the location, a few steps away from the main plaza and a few minutes away from the malecón. We also appreciated the superb customer service with a friendly and attentive staff. The breakfast was absolutely delicious with a variety of great options for all taste buds. We had a fantastic time in Ajijic and would highly recommend Casa Yollotzin. Nothing. All was great!
- Octavio (10/5): I’m coming back. - Everything was great. The staff was super friendly and helpful.
- Douglas (7/5): Quaint Mexican style hotel in nice location - Great staff
Cafe and food was very good
Location is great
The bed was very comfortable Expensive
Little or no WiFi
Low water pressure, could barely take a shower
- Cortney (10/5): Great stay in a top notch family ran hotel! - The staff is amazing- location is great!! Loved the room. Truly enjoyed the personally delivered pressed coffee and pastries each morning in our room! Location = perfection! Nothing to dislike.
- Joseph (2/5): I was robbed - Pretty I have my booking documented at 89 dollars and saw they secretly charged me 120. Whe I asked about it the ignored me and didn’t respond
- Jennifer (8/5): Beautiful hotel in the heart of town - The hotel is new and right in the heart of town. The staff is friendly and accommodating to us non Spanish speaking tourists. Great food and French pressed coffee in the morning. Who could ask for more?
