- dean (10/5): Decent place, just steep price that does not match expectations. - The modern/industrial mix is great. Really what we were looking for. I love the floor bed upstairs. I really felt at home. Liked the kitchen and the style really fitted in. Price to high.... The location and type of accommodation just does not fit the bill. Honestly I wouldn't pay the price again. That's not to take away the good experience we had at the accommodation. Just think there is better on offer in Bristol for the price.

- Alexandra (1/5): Unacceptable & misleading - Deeply Misleading & Disappointing Stay
We booked The CoalSheds expecting a clean, welcoming property in Southville — instead we found something very different. The location is misrepresented: it’s not in Southville but beside a skateboard park, surrounded by graffiti and a constant smell of marijuana. The environment felt unsafe and very unlike the description.
Inside, the property was dirty and poorly maintained: graffiti on the windows, stained sofa, dusty beams, filthy kettle, and rubbish left in recesses that had clearly not been cleaned in a long time. Towels and linens were stored uncovered in dusty areas, and we even found food kept alongside cleaning products. Safety standards also felt questionable, with unfinished fire doors.
We had planned to spend time together here, but it was so uncomfortable we left immediately after checking in, returning only to sleep — even then, the noise outside lasted all night.
What’s most concerning is how manipulated the reviews appear. The high rating does not reflect the reality we experienced. We feel completely misled and believe Booking.com should review this property and its listing.
- José Carlos (10/5): Nice loft. - Everything was fantastic The neighborhood at the beginning was a bit unsafe, but we don’t have any problems. The location is good, 15 minutes walking from the loft.

- Binoy (10/5): Wonderfull modern stay - Well arranged in the heart of city Parking is bit headache

- Amy-Rose (6/5): Good value for money - Very modern property and very practical, had everything we needed for our stay. Property was very warm, even with fans and air con we struggled to sleep. We felt the property could have been cleaner, there were sweets on the side of the upstairs bed, the headboard in the downstairs bedroom was also dusty. Could do with a freshen up of the paint.
- Tracey (10/5): Great stay, real coffee an unexpected pleasure! Loved the access to games room with pool and table tennis Loved everyt - Great stay here for son’s graduation. Lovely apartment and the comfiest of beds. Allowed us early access which was so appreciated. Could not have been more helpful Nothing

- Alanlacy (10/5): Exceptional - The accommodation was excellent The location
- Lauren (10/5): Brilliant - Property was brilliant. Such a nice apartment and the booking hosts were very accommodating. Would 100% stay at this property again.

- Rachel (9/5): Lovely quirky apartment - would definitely stay again - Lovely quirky little apartment. Great facilities and nice and clean. Sleeps six people too so good value.
Great communication from hosts who were super helpful. Would stay again
- Tanya (8/5): Very good -
- Linda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ruth (9/5): Nice comfortable apartment - Really nice apartment, 5 of us comfortably slept here. It was a warm day so we were grateful for the fans and air con! We couldn't find any oven gloves which would have been useful!
- Susan (7/5): Good - Loved the location and value for money It could have been a little bit cleaner.e.g. the fridge and no milk sachets were left as told. Toilet seat kept breaking.
- Evans (10/5): Absolute lovely hygiene and comfy for a quick stay if wanted - Centre of where I traveled during my stay Could hear next door front door slamming lung shut every time they went out or entering
- Angela (6/5): Served the purpose but didn’t get much sleep - The bedrooms were too hot/stuffy even with fan etc. no window and low ceiling 3 loft room with make shift bed
- Felicia (5/5): Mixed bag, but scalded by the shower here - It seemed like a very cool place, the vibe was nice, the kitchen was good, had what we needed to cook. The rooms were a bit bare but had everything we needed aside from somewhere to put clothes The showers scalded us. We literally could not shower the entire time we were there, and for a group of 5 on a hen do weekend, that was very uncomfortable. Two of us tried to shower and it literally burned our skin, afterward it felt as if we'd put our hand over a steaming kettle. I contacted them, and they had a plumber come look at it our second day there, and it turned out the shower needed to be replaced. They offered us a discount since we were all greasy by the end of this trip but then when I messaged them to follow up on this, they disappeared and I never heard another word from them about it. Not great. Also the sheets had some stains on them when we arrived. It's very warm in the summer time as its the top floor.
- Mick (10/5): Had an excellent stay. Everything we needed was there and it was very clean. 5star - Clean and spacious.
- Wanda (7/5): Great for a group to stay near the harbour. Funky vibes! - Plenty of room. Liked tea, coffee etc provided. Comfy beds. Great area! Was worried it might be noisy because of the skate park but it wasn’t. The lock into our loft wasn’t working properly- only one member of our party could get it to work which was stressful. Worried about slipping in the shower. Couldn’t get into the communal area.
- Peter (7/5): Good - Only Granola. Bottle of water in the fridge but no milk which I thought I had seen on the accomodation information.
Tea and coffee also available. None of us appreciated the green LED light by the door at night. It was so bright it lit up the room in a green hue !!
It did keep us awake. I have no idea what it's function was..
- Nicola (1/5): We would like a refund for misrepresentation of the accommodation - It was the most horrendous area nothing like what was advertised a year ago..
it looked like something from Beirut..
a back steer ghetto.. Please read above description

- Alice (10/5): Would book again! - Well stocked flat with everything you need, including tea and coffee (ground and instant), granola, utensils for cooking, very nice toiletries. Beds were exceptionally comfortable. Messaging from the hosts was clear and helpful. Space is lovely and clean and well styled and was perfect for us for one night to relax in after we attended a gig. Location is great with nice bars, restaurants and cafes on your doorstep, or you have everything you need to cater for yourself in the flat. Will definitely book again if I need to be in the area. There was talk of a diffuser in the exceptionally helpful welcome booklet but none was to be found - this would have been very welcome if we could have located it!
- Heidi (10/5): brilliant - very clean and modern. great facilities and perfect for a group area outside seemed a little sketchy but not too bad
- Sarah (9/5): Superb - Great place to stay. Simple to check in, space was well furnished and clean. Location was great for us and we found parking nearby easily. Loved the tiles in the bathroom. Whole loft space had a good feel to it. Could do with a few paint touch ups as you can tell the space has had some heavy usage. But the space was clean.
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Abigail (10/5): Exceptional - The property. Nothing.
- Jodie (10/5): Great Location, clean and affordable! Book here! - The property is affordable, clean, beds were comfy and great for a group of 6 ladies! We will definitely be coming again!!! It was very hot and the ceiling window blinds are broken so it would be great if they were fixed. Maybe one more comfy chair also would be my recommendation.
- Felicity (9/5): A great place for a group stay, close to the city - The property was lovely and clean and had plenty of room for all of us. The location was great for getting into town and there were plenty of amenities and nice touches left in the property such as tea/coffee/sweets! The games room was incredible and we used it a lot! The rooms got particularly hot at night, even with the fans on, but it was an unusually warm couple of days in July. The parking was slightly confusing with the free spaces/on street parking- but not a huge problem.
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alan (10/5): Absolutely brilliant, can’t wait to stay again - The property was clean, loads of space and everything you needed. Even came with a jaw of biscuits and sweets which was a nice touch. Everything was clean and comfortable and bathroom and shower where amazing. Not the owners fault but parking can be a challenge lucky for us a space came up
In front of the property but lots of places to park nearby and to be fair it’s better walking through the city as there is lots to see.
- Emma (9/5): Superb -
- Annabel (9/5): The coal shed was perfect for what we needed - Really well equipped.
Very spacious
- Adam (7/5): Good -
- Nick (9/5): Superb -
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Spacious accommodation, all six of us felt we had plenty of space. . Good facilities. Nothing in particular.
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Katie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Darwin (1/5): Terrible - The lift was dirty, they didn’t change the bed sheets and towels from previous guests.
- Williams (10/5): In love with it want to come back!! - Loved the communal Area, absolutely loved the apartment (loft 1)! The owners were so so helpful and couldn't do enough to make everything easy, accessible and enjoyable! Amazing beautifully painted skate park right in the door step and a kids play area too which our children loved! Not a single bad word to say, want to come back at Christmas time!!
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Eddy (9/5): Excellent value for money - Quirky…neat.. modern …everything you need
A hind from home Unfortunately the usual cleaner was off unwell so food not cleared from fridge but when I contacted the owner they apologised and offered to move us to alternative accommodation
- Rebecca (10/5): Lovely, modern accommodation. - The loft was clean, spacious and beautifully decorated. It had everything we needed in the kitchenette and the beds were comfy. I was wary of the skatepark being directly behind the loft but it wasn't noisy and I actually quite liked watching the skaters.
- Alistair (1/5): Not value for money whatsoever and I would expect a full refund! - Good size and well furnished My room smelt heavily of Cannabis, the people next to us were loud all night and had been screaming! Drug users were waiting to score the following day out the front of the address!
- Simon (8/5): Very good -
- Teresa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (9/5): Impressive, comfortable and fun. - Very comfortable. An impressive space to share with a group. Beautifully decorated whilst also minimalist. The only thing we would say is that we wished we had brought a bin liner and tea towel, or we wished one could have been provided.
- Lindsey (10/5): Brilliant group stay - Spaces were very well designed to a high standard, very clean, modern and had a great atmosphere. There was plenty of space and we were able to easily move between the two apartments. Bathroom was very spacious. Very nice to provide tea/coffee/sugar/sweetener as well as basic toiletries. Handy to have USB as well as normal plugs as well as a dishwasher.
Check-in was easy with a code for the downstairs door and then the key safes outside of the apartment. Completely separate to the downstairs rooms and could barely hear them.
We had an absolutely brilliant stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend for other groups. A couple of touches could improve the stay but nothing major - e.g. there was only one cafetiere and one kitchen roll between the two flats. This wasn't a major thing but one flat woke earlier than the other. It would also be great to have either oven gloves and/or a tea towel as we cooked breakfast in and had some non-dishwasher items. Hot water did run out for us, but there were ~10 of us across the two flats. Blinds in the ceiling of flat 2 didn't close properly/stay closed. A full length mirror would be appreciated.
Be aware of one of the beds in flat 2 being incredibly high.
Parking spaces mentioned were unclear which one/two belonged to coalshed.
- Joel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jacquie (10/5): Staying at Coalshed lofts - Excellent communication. Helpful staff. Facilities exactly as described.
It was easy to access the apartments and all seven members of the band were happy Nothing
- Yash (10/5): Exceptional -
- Phone (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jelle (4/5): Disappointing - The amount of beds and space is good The location is unpleasant and noisy from the skatepark. The apartment was also quite hot.
- Lindsay (10/5): Exceptional - The accuracy of the descriptions, the space, the location, the cleanliness, modern minimalist space, simplicity of booking & gaining access. We managed to park right outside !!
It was a brilliant space for chilling, spending time with family and a base for walking about the local area.
Bathroom was fantastic. Our children were fascinated by the little blue sink! Even though we parked, we were extremely lucky to. With 4 children and bags that was a big relief. We would've struggled if we had to use the school car park. This is a minor thing really but worth noting. Certainly not a dislike, more a point to note.
- Natalie (9/5): Excellent value for money and high quality. - The cleanliness and the high quality appliances, the mattresses and pillows/bedding was all high quality. The bathroom was very clean and had lovely big toiletries available. There was milk in the fridge and some packets of breakfast cereal too. Really high quality place. The sofa was probably a bit on the small side for us all to sit as there was 6 of us and its quite a small sofa. Didn't ruin the stay or the room and fed back to owners that it may be an idea to get a corner sofa so there's more seating. Definitely wouldn't stop me staying again if it wasn't changed though.
- Rebekah (9/5): Lovely property, good communication with staff. Perfect for a stay with friends - Easy to access, spacious and perfect for what we wanted. The one bed was really high, we managed okay but older guests may have struggled
- Jose (8/5): Very good -
- Nicola (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kelly (9/5): Great, clean, modern accommodation perfect for the 1 night or a weekend away in bristol! - Everything looked great, the bathroom was amazing my favourite room! The airflow is a bit restricted, skaters can be noisy but I think we had a decent night
- Liam (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic place - very clean and a short walk from the city centre.
- Miguel (6/5): Pleasant -
- Kathryn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - very easy to access very comfortable and spacious great location
- Tom (10/5): Exceptional - Easy communication with host, apartment clean and good location.
- Anonymous (9/5): fantastic and well organised! - easy check in experience lovely layout and fit for the one night purpose! Lads activity weekend so it was great to have a base. No ironing board?? Perhaps a second sofa would help with more seating. the top space isn’t being used this could make a good 3rd sleeping area!
- Olley (5/5): Passable - very convenient location for city centre access with parking right opposite. Booked for 3 people/ 3 beds. The two beds were comfortable, though the sofa bed came with NO pillows or duvet and i could not get in touch with the owner so had to sleep under towels..,.
- Kate (8/5): Very good -
- Sajid (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wesson (8/5): Very good -
- Supanut (8/5): Very good -
- Elis (5/5): Passable - the bed was not comfortable old mattress , and the floor was realy dirty , exept this every thing was okay hopefully next time this small problems will be fixed
- Adam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kevin (8/5): Very good -
- Stefani (10/5): Great funky area, clean and quirky - Perfect for us as we attended a night 10 mins walk away. Clean comfortable enough space for our group The front door (from the street) jammed all guests fingers, very minor issue but seems tricky design
- James (8/5): Very good -
- Amey (7/5): Good - Modern and well presented. Comfy beds and was nice and clean. Good central location Quite noisy, loud music from neighbours until early hours of the morning. Also had to phone up multiple times to get door codes as wasn't sent the info until 3 hours after check in!
- Connor (8/5): Great place - The property was very clean and looked great, plus great location. Loved the self check in and things like tea bags and milk There was only 1 fan and the building really retains heat, so was very very warm, especially the bedrooms. Couldn't really have all rooms cool
- Matthew (1/5): Apartment not ready, not habitable, no response from emergency numbers, just awful - the fixtures and fittings as you can see in the pics were of good standard but the finish is rushed and messy at closer inspection with lots of finishing needing to be completed The apartment has insufficient ventilation and airflow, 2 very small windows 1 in main living area and 1 in one bedroom meant the temperature was over 32 degrees for the whole stay, this rose to 36 plus and was still 33 at 3am, the bedroom without window had a fan in which circulated the incredibly hot air like a sauna. Having contacted the emergency number on several occasions with pictures of the thermometer which was already in the kitchen area all contact was ignored. the only contact received from the coalshed team was a reminder to get out for the cleaners at 11!! All further contact has been ignored.
In the main bedroom a skylight had been covered with card and masking tape which had half fallen down and the mattress on the bed was old and I could feel every last spring, not anywhere near the calibre that’s the pictures portray on the site.
The location of the apartment is right next to a skate park, the tiny windows which need to be wide open are at the same level as the park within 10m, people were in that park until 4 am drinking, smashing bottles and smoking weed, not that the apartments can do anything about this but this would absolutely not be a place for children and don’t expect to sleep with the windows needing to be open!
