- David (10/5): Beautiful cottage, full of character, Would definitely stay here again. - Beautiful cottage, full of character, fresh scones on arrival were a lovely unexpected surprise. Would definitely stay here again. Nothing to report.
- Emilie (10/5): Everything was perfect !! We are so happy. -

- Martin (10/5): Autentisk and cosy cottage. - Autentisk and really cosy, with a great kitchen and great atmosphere. Our hosts were kind and welcoming. We can recommend this place 😊 Our host had baked scones to us. Really nice 👌🏻 Nothing
- Josie (10/5): Comfortable, cosy and relaxing. - The cottage was gorgeous and just what we were looking for. It’s fully equipped with everything you’d need and the little personal touches made it. We didn’t not like anything about the property. There is a low door from the kitchen that you have to be careful of but there is a tassel above it to remind you to duck.
- David (10/5): We stayed in a beautiful Cotswold period cottage with easy access to lots of interesting places. - The property felt very homely. The furnishings were in keeping with the age of the property, with some lovely touches. Some delicious scones were there to greet us with clotted cream and jam. Ideally situated to explore around the Cirencester area. The owners were very friendly and helpful.
- Larry (10/5): Superb. We really felt at home - A beautifully restored cottage. A very nice touch on arrival with homemade scones, jam and cream greeting us. A very pleasant stay. Too short.
Lovely welcoming hosts. Nothing
- Heather (10/5): A truly unforgettable stay in the heart of the Cotswold's! - Our experience at the cottage in Ewen was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the lovely host family, who went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. They provided fantastic recommendations for local food, and as a runner, I was especially grateful for the multiple scenic running routes they shared with me.
The cottage itself was full of charm and history. The hosts took time to share the story of the Old Forge, adding a personal and meaningful touch to our visit. Upon arrival, we were greeted with freshly baked scones and jam, absolutely delicious, and found the fridge and cupboards thoughtfully stocked with essentials.
The space was perfect for our group of three adults. We especially loved relaxing on the cozy patio with a bottle of wine and winding down in the evenings with movies in the comfortable living room. Every detail of the cottage was carefully considered, blending comfort, charm, and a true sense of home.
Ewen is a picturesque and peaceful village, making it the perfect base to explore the Cotswold's. It felt like a step back in time, with its quiet lanes, stone cottages, and countryside beauty.
I will absolutely be staying here again, it was one of the highlights of our entire UK trip.
- Sarah (9/5): Superb -
- Lena (10/5): Exceptional - The beds were really comfy, and the homemade scones, jam & cream were perfect and very welcoming!
Beautiful cottage garden for us to enjoy during our stay, we have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, Thank you!
- Mickael (10/5): Lovely house - The house is spacious, well-decorated, and well-equipped. It's also very quiet and well located to visit the Cotswolds. The hosts are very welcoming, kind and helpful. The possibility to charge an electric car is a bonus.
- Sharon (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was exceptional and we received a warm welcome and helpful hosts. The cottage was very cosy and beautifully clean. Great location and good taxi service available. Nothing
- Andrea (9/5): Superb - Central location
- Tanya (9/5): Superb - Friendly host and very tidy. Nothing to add here.
- Sophie (10/5): A lovely stay in a very pretty village - We’ve stayed here previously and loved it, hence returning 😊 Beautiful spacious house, great location and welcoming treats (scones, jam and clotted cream 😋 fresh flowers, milk etc).
- Brent (10/5): Lovely homely character cottage. - We loved the spacious, character filled cottage, situated in a lovely, quiet countryside lane. The cottage had everything and more than we needed. Our hosts were welcoming and helpful. Nothing we didn't enjoy.
- Ruth (10/5): Ideal cottage - Lovely comfortable, cosy cottage in a quiet location. Wonderful hosts who made us very welcome. Fresh eggs and beautiful scones with jam and cream.
- Linda (10/5): Exceptional - The cottage and gardens were pretty. Lyndsey and Ed had an abundance of local knowledge which enhanced our enjoyment of the trip. My daughter accidentally left her watch at the cottage and it was sent home to us promptly.
- Deborah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cristina (10/5): A Fairy Cottage in the Charming Cotswolds - This dream cottage was well beyond our expectations, with a lot of character and an amazing attention to even the smallest detail. The décor is simply astonishing and you can relax in the lush garden; Lyndsey and Ed are fabulous guests that went the extra mile for us. Briefly, a place you cannot miss in the Cotswolds!
- Sugandha (9/5): Charming country getaway - This Cotswolds cottage stay was charming and cosy. The hosts kindly left us delicious fresh scones, jam, and freshly laid eggs. The house is perfect for a family getaway- lots of board games, a big kitchen, washer/dryer. The location was ideal for exploring the southern Cotswolds region.
- Gianna (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was fabulous. Thank you for your warm hospitality.
Fantastic!!!
- George (9/5): A beautiful traditional country cottage with many added features and homely comforts - A traditional country cottage with lots of super features notably the open plan kitchen . Excellent westerly facing cottage garden. Very comfortable, immaculately clean throughout. No local facilities
- Sharon (7/5): Enjoyable - Size of the property was good and we liked the quirkiness of it We felt the property and garden was quite rundown. There's wild and natural but we felt it was too far gone, which was also internally too. I feel it needs attention and some work on tidying up. Also an iron and ironing board needs to be supplied.
- Kevin (10/5): Very relaxing week in a beautiful country cottage. - Fantastic quiet location in a pleasant rural village with plenty of countryside in which to walk or go for runs. The "young" River Thames is very close by. Good to have the hosts living next door. They were always available - either in person or via the messaging facility of the Booking.com app - to answer any questions. Safe off-road parking right outside the front door allowed for easy loading and un-loading of luggage. On arrival we were greeted with a "welcome" gift of scones, clotted cream and jam which we ate in the garden. A cosy lounge with two very comfortable double settees made for relaxing evenings. Nothing really.
- Dawn (9/5): Extremely ebjoyable - Lovely location, beautiful cottage and very friendly hosts Everything was perfect
- Jesse (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sian (10/5): Fabulous! - Fabulous spacious country cottage in a quiet village. Gracious hosts provided fresh eggs, scones, lots of useful information about things to do in the vicinity (by foot and car), and plenty of wood for the lounge fireplace. Booking is highly recommended! We liked everything, however one of the two bedrooms requires occupant/s to pass through the other bedroom to access the toilet, which may not suit everyone.
- Julie (10/5): We wanted to stay in a classic Cotswold cottage and that is exactly what we did. - This was a self catered property but the hosts did leave some fresh eggs to add to our supplies.
Scones with fresh jam and cream were waiting for us on arrival.
The family came and met us on the first night. Only thing that would have been better was if we had time to stay longer.
- Patrick (10/5): Home Away From Home... - An excellent cottage for a 2 nights rest. Fresh scones with jam awaited us upon arrival and fresh eggs, butter, milk was left for us to use. Friendly host, Ed, greeted us and provided informations on walks around the area. The cottage was clean, comfortable and equipped with a full kitchen for use.
Thanks Ed and Lyndsey for sharing your home with us for 2 nights !! Nothing except our stay was too short !!
- Jane (10/5): Fabulous weekend stay in this gorgeous cottage - Beautiful quirky cottage, comfortable furnishings and well stocked with essentials including fresh eggs and scones/jam/cream. Stunning setting, we had gorgeous long walk into Cirencester for dinner and is in a great central location to visit the West Cotswold towns and villages. Hosts were very welcoming but also left us to ourselves. Just perfect! Loved it all - perfectly suited our needs.
- Steve (9/5): A cosy home away from home in stunning surroundings. - A beautiful location and surroundings of cottage gardens and some chickens was idyllic. The cottage was clean and well stocked. Delicious scones and clotted cream and jam on arrival and some fresh eggs to enjoy really gave an added bonus. Comfy beds and lovely decor.
- Cathy (10/5): Pretty old cosy cottage that had everything :) -
- Julie (10/5): quaint rural family cottage - Lovely family home with everything you could need. Loved that the family were nearby and there were pets too. It was set in a cute village near to lot of amenities
- Naomi (9/5): Perfect base - will be back - Location, facilities excellent and fresh scones, eggs and milk in the fridge a lovely touch Double bed small for us but appreciate room limited. Very low door from kitchen to dining room
- Jodie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kezia (9/5): Superb - Beautiful, well kept and cosy cottage. The host was lovely and the location was ideal, being just a short drive from Cirencester and conveniently placed to visit the areas of the Cotswolds we’d planned to see.
- Sophie (10/5): A wonderful stay in a beautiful cottage and location. - This was such a beautiful, deceptively spacious cottage, equipped very well and beautifully furnished (lovely artwork and choice of books too). We loved having the use of an Aga in the kitchen, in addition to a wood-burning stove in the living room.
The hosts went above and beyond to ensure our stay was extremely enjoyable; fresh homemade scones, jam and clotted cream, logs/kindling for the fire to last entire stay, eggs from the chickens out the back and beautiful flowers to name a few.. We were also offered a later check out due to the fact that there was no one checked in for the following day.
It’s was a lovely few days and would definitely love to stay again!
- Ciprian (10/5): perfect stay - Lovely cottage, in a wonderful location, with all the facilities needed, also very nice and helpful hosts. Nothing
- Justine (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful cottage, full of character. Perfect for family’s or couples. We stayed here for a wedding only a 5 min walk away but the cottage is perfectly placed for exploring the Cotswolds area. If it’s a rainy day there are lots of games to play and books to read.
Wonderful hosts- thank you for a lovely stay 😊
- Benjamin (9/5): Superb -
- Sueallanson (10/5): Beautifully furnished home - The house was beautifully furnished, with the owner's creative flair apparent in every room. So well equipped and lovely hospitality basket of home made scones. Although the cottage was attached to the main house the owner was friendly but non intrusive. We'll definitely stay there again.
Warm aga in the kitchen... Lovely to come back to. Nothing
- Margaret (10/5): A unique snapshot of living in a little village in the Cotswold. - It’s exactly like it’s name, a characterful cottage in the Cotswold. It’s so spacious and lovely for a couple or a family. The extra personal touches like the home eggs and scones and cream just made it feel so cosy. Meeting the chickens scratching at the door or the friendly dog and family who live next door made it a genuine experience. The location is so central to all the lovely places in the Cotswold as well as Oxford. Nothing. It was perfect.
- Benjamin (10/5): A place to enjoy the sound of silence - Nestled in the quiet village of Ewen, in one of the prettiest parts of the Cotswolds, the characterful Characterful Cotswolds Cottage is only a stone-throw away from the postcard villages of Bibury, Barnsley, and Bisley, as well as from the town of Tedbury and King Charles III and Queen Camilla's private love-nest Highgrove.
Lyndsey is a super host: she answered all my questions promptly and meticulously and had fresh eggs, milk, and homemade scones waiting for us.
Our cottage was clinically clean, tastefully decorated, and fully equipped (it even has an AGA). Lyndsey and her lovely children were helpful, generous, and fun.
Due to the bedroom layout, the cottage is more suited for a family rather than two couples, but it did not matter to us. We had a wonderful time and I am already looking for dates in the late summer to return to the Characterful Cotswolds Cottage. Our stay was too short.
- Chris (10/5): 5 stars, would stay again with pleasure. - What a truly lovely country cottage. The fragrant yellow roses were a beautiful welcome, as were lovely touches such as some fresh eggs from the chickens, scones and jam. Decorated and fitted out in a comfortable personal style rather than an utilitarian impersonal bnb way, it felt more like a home than a stay. The kitchen is warm, the place very quiet. Although advertised as a small cottage, it was built in the days where there were features that made the most of the space, such as window alcoves, plenty of storage, and the owners are obviously modernising as they go, with new appliances and conveniences such as built-in usb chargers and quality wifi. Not much to complain about. In very inclement weather and with a lot of guests the lack of a dryer might be a bit difficult, but the warm aga stove works pretty well as a dryer, and no doubt the owners would be able to help. The doorway between the front of the cottage and the back is low, but that is structural and can be coped with. Perhaps a cushioning at the top of the door so clumsy people like me don’t hurt their heads.
