- 谷口 (10/5): おすすめ - お料理、飲み物、設備、おもてなしなど全てが快適でした
- Danielle (8/5): - L'hôtel, la chambre, le dîner, le onsen parfait Le lit dur comme de la pierre c'est dommage
- Vladimir (10/5): Excellent location for quite out of town relaxation. Hope to come again one day. - Excellent food. Impeccable service. Quite location. Large room with good beds. Staff english skills could be better
- Donna Fay (8/5): Perfect stay for couples or anyone needing retreat time - Sauna options & countryside location
Food offerings were exceptional Wish I had of asked for vegetarian every meal, they were very accommodating when I requested dietary changes
- John (10/5): - Breakfast and dinner are exceptional. The private onsen facilities are top notch. The service was very attentative. The rooms have heated floors and a beautiful bathroom. The location is nice. It is a few minutes from the Niutsuhime Shrine and 30 minute drive from Koyasan.

- Michael (10/5): Absolute perfection - the most comfortable and welcoming stay that I’ve ever experienced. - Beautiful property, absolutely seamless handling of all of the details of our stay, and incredible cuisine.
Starting with the room - it’s modern, airy, and sooooo comfortable. It also enormous - after spending our days in cramped hotel rooms in the city, getting to spread out and breathe was a massive luxury. It was a true oasis for us in the midst of a busy vacation - got some of the best sleep I’ve ever had. All of the products and items in the room are extremely high quality. I was especially taken with the hotel using Birkenstocks as the onsen sandals. The towels are some of the softest towels I’ve ever seen, and my partner and I both loved the lemongrass scented soap/shampoo/body wash - it smells expensive expensive.
The rest of the property is beautiful without being too overstated - loved the fireplace in the dining room, and the gardens adjoining the guest room. Tons of free amenities on the property - they offer you welcome drinks at the bar, there’s free water/juice/beer everywhere you look. They offer you a ladyfinger in the room that I’m absolutely obsessed with. So many small touches that just make you feel comfortable and welcome.
The staff and service are quietly exceptional - just truly on another level. At other high end ryokans the service can (to me) feel a little too effusive. Here the staff are always present but not overwhelming at all - they anticipate exactly what you need before you even have to ask. I’ve never felt so well-taken-care of, but at the same time, the whole experience felt completely effortless on their end. The service here really is the peak of hospitality for me - I’m used to a very (USA) West-Coast vibe, and a lot of high end service feels smothering to me. Not so at all here - just an absolutely perfect, seamless experience from start to finish.
Finally the food. When you come to this hotel through the back roads of Wakayama, you notice the incredible natural bounty of this area. Honestly no complaints whatsoever.

- Winnifred (10/5): Best place to stay and eat in Koyasan - Beautiful upmarket hotel and the chef is likely the best we have experienced in our multiple trips to Japan. The food at the restaurant for the dinners and breakfasts were the highest quality using fresh local ingredients . We will definitely stay here again when in Koyasan. Nothing
- Andrew (9/5): A perfect hideout within hitting distance of Koyasan. - Fabulous cabin-like standalone lodge in the forest, with a balcony and steps down to grass and garden = just lovely.
A perfect place to get away from it for a few days
Close enough to Koyasan which is unmissable.
The chef is exceptional and he works very hard indeed - 12 courses both nights, all different with a high hit rate. Very elegant plating.
Gorgeous private onsen! Perfect.
This really is a lovely place There is something wrong with the ambiance of the bar and dining room - very uncomfortable bar stools and the lighting in the evening is just too bright. (An endless loop of Richard Cladyerman piped piano musak would drive anyone mad, just by the way.) Saved by the Chef. The winelist is average and silly expensive BUT the sake is wonderful, just ask for tasting advice; when in Rome.
- Greg (10/5): Luxurious retreat near Koyasan - We spent a day in Koyasan and then arrived at the end of the day. We were greeted with a very warm reception. The rooms were fantastic. We loved having the private bath in our room. Our dinner exceeded our expectations. The food was both delicious and beautifully presented. We had an early morning departure the next day, and the staff gave us sandwiches for our drive to the airport. Our only regret was we didn’t stay multiple days.

- Jeffrey (10/5): Small ryokan near Osaka airport and Koya-san with beautiful rooms, friendly staff and excellent food - If you're coming into Japan by landing at the Osaka (Kansai International) airport and you're renting a car, this is a perfect place to stay (an easy hour's drive) for at least two nights, especially if you're planning to go to Koya-san, which is nearby and a must-see. It's a small, intimate ryokan, with wonderful staff, most of whom speak English. The room was superb and there were nice private onsen baths available for use, as well a cedar bath in some rooms. The rooms, which are stocked with a variety of free drinks (beer & spirits) have balconies facing nice gardens where, on arrival, they serve a welcoming glass of prosecco. The restaurant is excellent, with exquisite kaiseki cuisine and friendly, professional service. Nothing.
- Andriani (10/5): - The room was perfect , the employees were very nice and very professional and the food exceptional

- Tomasz (10/5): Miejsce dla osób poszukujących komfortu i spokoju oraz doskonałej kuchni - Doskonała kuchnia i wspaniała obsługa. Bardzo spokojne otoczenie. Nie mam żadnych uwag.
- Solomon (10/5): It was really amazing! Everything was perfect and we enjoyed a lot !!!!! - Everything
- joanna (10/5): Perfect dining experience - The dinner was superb, with super talented chef and knowledgeable sommelier. The staff were friendly too. Nop
- Alexandra (7/5): Beautiful, Modern Ryokan with Fine Dining Focus in a remote location - Overall we really enjoyed our stay in the hotel itself. What we liked especially:
1. The rooms & Onsen facilities - the rooms where beautiful and private, with a nice terrace that others couldn't see into. The Onsens could be used privately without an extra charge and for however long you wanted to.
2. The property overall is very new and beautiful & relaxing. We felt a lot like staying at a Safari Lodge!
3. The food was delicious and very beautifully prepared. I think this is also what you primarily pay for - a Fine Dining Meal in a nice place. While the Staff was very helpful, we had a really tough time communicating a lot of the time, which resulted in the wrong orders, etc. I don't expect perfect English but given the price, I was a bit frustrated at times.
The biggest issue we had with this property however, is that it's not actually in Koyasan. This was mostly an oversight on our part, but it did come up in our research for Koyasan and the pictures make it seem like it's closer too. If you want to go see the temples or cemetery, it's a 35-40 mins drive away. We ended up spending a lot of money and time in taxis, which took away from the hotel experience.
Overall, this is a nice hotel but I think the price-value is a bit skewed. At almost $800/night, we expected excellent service, drinks or at least some drinks included with dinner, and a better location. And while the food was very good, it wasn't the best food we've had in Japan.
If you have a car or at just interested in a relaxing time away in a modern Ryokan, this is a nice place, but I think there's still better price/value options out there.

- Mark (10/5): A Truly Exceptional Getaway – Unforgettable Experience - From the moment we arrived, our stay at this stunning hotel was nothing short of extraordinary. Nestled in a scenic and peaceful location, the hotel immediately set the tone for a peaceful and rejuvenating retreat.
One of the standout features was the private onsen baths—a luxurious and tranquil experience that allowed us to unwind in privacy. Another standout was the breakfasts and dinners. Dining at the hotel was a delight. Each meal was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. From traditional local dishes to exquisite gourmet options, every bite was a treat for the senses.
The service was impeccable. Every staff member we encountered was genuinely warm, attentive, and always eager to assist. Whether it was accommodating our special requests or simply checking in to ensure we were comfortable, their hospitality exceeded all expectations. Mr Nakazawa and Ms Nishikawa in particular went above & beyond.
Our room was spacious, elegantly designed, and incredibly comfortable. Koyasan is about 30 mins from the hotel and is a lovely town to explore as well. N/A
- Ryann (9/5): Superb -
- Anthony (10/5): Amazing to the point of disbelief - Perfection. Best hospitality on earth. Impossible to describe in words. Best any four seasons or Aman. Service is stunning, literally wow !
- Frances (9/5): Luxury in the middle of rice fields - Peaceful, beautiful ryokan. 1 BR is huge with great amenities. Property is lovely and the food is top notch. Presentation was spectacular. The three onsens got a lot of use!!! Staff is super responsive and take great pride in their work. A bit remote without a car.
- Benjamin (10/5): Relaxing at an amazing location - We really enjoyed our stay here. Everyone was really welcoming the onsens are great and for private use. The food was amazing. The room had all the possible comfort you can imagine. This stay was not cheap but worth the money. Nothing
- Tudor (10/5): Exceptional experience with superlative gastronomy close to Koyasan. - This is far more than just a hotel stay—it's a truly exceptional experience. Everything at Sanso Amanosato is superlative. From the extraordinary rooms to the exquisite 12-course gastronomic dinner, the sumptuous Japanese breakfast, and the serene sauna/onsen experience, every detail is thoughtfully crafted.
The meals are nothing short of spectacular and could easily earn a place in the Michelin Guide. Considering all that’s included, the daily rate is absolutely worth it. I guarantee—you won’t regret it. Everything was perfect.
- Marianne (6/5): Delicious food, nice onsen, lovely staff but not a place for non Japanese speakers - Comfortable room and lovely food Limited English spoken. Not a suitable place for visitors not speaking or reading Japanese ( room amenity controls and onsen availability via a Japanese iPad system). We didn’t find the decoration of the public areas particularly attractive.
- Jonada (10/5): Exceptional -
- Arthur (10/5): A peaceful luxury escape near Koyasan! - Sanso Amanosato was the highlight of our trip to Japan. Nestled in nature, this luxury retreat offers outstanding service, spacious rooms with private wooden baths, and several beautifully equipped private onsens. We were warmly welcomed with champagne, and all in-room drinks were complimentary. The dinner was exceptional, and the breakfast, served in a wooden box, was just as refined. The hotel organized free transfers from Hashimoto Station and to the must-see village of Koyasan. A truly unforgettable experience. Nothing !
- Douglas (10/5): - This traditional Japanese Inn is thoroughly modern with excellent facilities, rooms, Michelin quality food, and helpful staff. We want to call out ‘Mikki’ who was super kind and helped us with any language barriers we had. The entire restaurant staff was amazing and we are grateful to meet the chef. The onsens were also wonderful. A room here with breakfast and dinner included is an excellent value.
- Tami (10/5): A-plus property and experience! - I lived in Japan for years and have traveled back many times for work and to visit friends. This is by far the best ryokan experience I have had in all of Japan. The staff was attentive, the facility top notch and the food amazing (Michelin star level food). Easy access to mystical Koya san.
- Thomas (10/5): My favorite hotel stay in Japan. - Every aspect of our stay was fantastic and well above my expectations. The multiple private onsen, the multi-course dinner and breakfast, and the staff were all amazing.
- Pamela (8/5): Would highly recommend a stay when visiting Koyasan. - Service was excellent.
Liked the smart automation in the rooms.
Private onsen is nice.
Cleanliness is excellent
Meals were amazing.
Mattress is hard like a rock. Pillows not so comfy.
- David (10/5): Incredible location with high-quality accommodations and even better service. - The service was incredible from beginning to end. A staff member was already waiting at the local train station to pick us up, and the ride up to the hotel was comfortable and picturesque. The room and on-site amenities were incredibly clean, high quality, and large compared to other hotels that we stayed at. The individual private bath rooms were immaculate, and it was a pleasure experiencing the onsen with the complimentary drinks. Both meals that we experienced were great, the traditional Japanese breakfast was very good, and the multi-course dinner was very high quality and shared the region's specialties. The rice served was the best that I had anywhere in Japan, and a staff member even kindly made our leftovers into a rice ball that could be enjoyed in our room. I would recommend this location to anyone staying near Kyoto or Osaka and looking for a high-quality trip into the mountains. Nothing - the experience was exactly what we were looking for.
- Tien (10/5): Love the stay! - The location was superb- in a tranquil setting, surrounded by mountains. We loved everything about the property. The staff were attentive, clearly proud of the work they do and were really helpful and friendly. The food, as everyone mentioned, was certainly the highlight. We used the private Onsen every day because we enjoyed it that much! The Suite was cosy, with all the necessary amenities and more, and the view from our terrace was great.
All in all, the 4D3N stay at this gorgeous property was memorable and we cannot thank the staff enough- and especially the chef- for making our stay such a wonderful one. Nothing!
- Pratarnporn (10/5): Amazing Ryokan close to Koyasan. Cute area where you can bike to shrines. Would definitely be back! - Amazing stay, everything was amazing, food delicious, room great, staff amazing!
- Emil (10/5): 3 nights in a mountain paradise - The most luxurious and comfortable stay we had in all of Japan, and without a doubt the most service-minded staff we have ever met in the whole world! They were available anytime to improve our experience in any way they could. The food was Michelin-star worthy and the menu changed every night with inspiring dishes throughout.
- Alvin (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing facilities - there are three different onsen baths that are available to reserve while on property. The room was spacious and clean, service was top tier. Food was impeccable from the chef. It was 2 hours away from Osaka/Kyoto and an amazing retreat away from the busy city life. Will hopefully revisit again in the future!
- François (10/5): Excellent! Don't miss chance to treat yourself to an Extraordinary Experience at great worth value - We loved everything: spacious and beautiful bedrooms, excellent food (worth at least one Michelin star) offered by Chef OHIGASHI in parallel of great wines and sake list, 3 five stars private onsen, excellent personalized service, by Micky? and Matsumoto? the international great classy sommelier with a great sense of humour (sorry if i lost your names, please correct me in answer). You really feel more than at home in this unique independent hotel, where the owner has invested heavily to offer the best experience to his guests, in every details and spirit of excellence! to not stay longer but we will come back!
- Bradley (9/5): Superb -
- Wattanachai (10/5): Love this place - food was very good, private onsen, staff very helpful
- Natalia (10/5): Great hotel, perfect stay - Cozy hotel on the way to the Koya san, a place to relax after or before a night trip to the mountain.
Offers luxury bungalows with a stunning bathrooms and spacious bedrooms, 3 small private onsens on the site and a very good restaurant, serving japanese/western style dishes of a very high quality.
The personal did everything possible to make my stay perfect, even offered me a free transfer to the mountain Koya and back. Nothing, it was a perfect experience
- Wai (9/5): Superb -
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptionally thoughtful and luxurious stay with high level of cuisine. - This was an exceptional property in every way. Though the rooms are European style, the singular cabins, the passage ways, the main building, all have a very Japanese architectural feel. This is located about 20km from Koyasan, and sits among rice paddies just a bike ride from a local shrine. It gives you the chance to glide along on deserted roads and happen upon a major pilgramage shrine along the Kumano Kodo. The Kaiseki meal was superb, with about 10 courses of sublime cooking and service of the highest order. The staff may have been a little nervous as we don't speak Japanese, but they fared well. The presentation was, as is the Japanese way, giving a nod to the autumn season with fall flowers and leaves presenting the food as art. The Onsen were private so that couples can enjoy with eachother, three possibilities were available, with small gardens outside each. Our suite also had a huge round tub to enjoy as well. The bathroom was of exceptional design. We had a hedge of blooming flowers outside the porch doors where beautiful and unusual butterflies were feeding. Maybe the gardens in front of the cabin could have been better maintained, but the fall is a fallow time.
- Julie (10/5): Idealic location to unwind. - The villa were beautiful - everything you would need thought of. Loved the gardens as the butterflies were out. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
- Kester (10/5): Great experience - we would highly recommend to all food lovers to check it out. - Food was out of this world - our best meal in Japan
