Les excursions avec Allan étaient super (nous avons fait le tour de nuit, la balade en bateau et l'observation des oiseaux et nous nous sommes régalés !) Nous avons vu beaucoup d'animaux et Allan est un excellent guide. Le logement est top avec un très beau jardin et une piscine très agréable. Les repas sont excellents. La comida no la probamos pues al ver en la cocina gatos merodeando por una encimera encima de los fogones no quisimos ni probarla. Una mala experiencia en este hotel. • Philipp (10/5): Super Unterkunft für Ausflüge in die Region von Boca Tabada - Unser Aufenthalt war super! Das Frühstück und Abendesse war sehr lecker. Die Zimmer waren sauber und die Betten bequem. Die Ausflüge mit Allan waren hervorragend! Danke! Nichts.
• Johannes (9/5): - De premium kamer met een fijn bed. In de nacht koelt het af. Sanitair is netjes. Zwembad was heerlijk koel om af te koelen na de velke activiteiten die je hier kunt boeken.
• Dorine (7/5): Goede en betaalbare keus om Maquenque en de Rio San Carlos te ontdekken - Leuke accommodatie naast de Rio San Carlos waar wij een boottrip op hadden gepland. Aardige Costaricaanse familie runt de accommodatie. Ze verzorgen ontbijt en diner (2 keuze). De zoon is ook gids. Er is een zwembadje, lekker om in af te koelen. Het gebouw en de kamer die wij hadden kan wel een opknapbeurt gebruiken.

• Christian (10/5): - Wir waren mit unserem 5-jährigen Sohn für 3 Nächte in der Iguanitas Lodge und haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Es ist ein Familienbetrieb und wir wurden sehr gut betreut. Das Essen war das beste Essen unserer gesamten Costa Rica-Reise und wurde immer frisch zubereitet. Wir machten auch eine Bootstour und eine kleine Wanderung mit dem Sohn der Familie und es hat uns sehr gut gefallen. Wer die Natur liebt, gerne Vögel beobachtet und es gerne ruhig und entspannt mag, ist hier richtig.Wir wären gerne länger geblieben.

• Uwe (8/5): Ruhige Lodge abseits des Massentourismus - Sauber gute familiar geführte Lodge in ruhiger Lage direkt am Fluss. Super Ausflüge mit Sohn Allan !!! Es gibt nichts auszusetzen.

• Dagmar (7/5): Gut, aber zu teuer - Das Personal war überaus freundlich und jederzeit hilfsbereit. Alan war ein super Guide, wir hatten zwei tolle Touren mit ihm, einmal die Bootstour zur nicaraguanischen Grenze und eine Kajak Tour nur für uns beide, das war wirklich top. Er kennt sich bestens aus und gibt hervorragende Erklärungen er spricht sehr gut Englisch. Unser Zimmer war groß und sehr geräumig, leider gibt es aber keinerlei Ablagemöglichkeiten so das wir das zweite Bett dafür nutzen mussten. Es gibt natürlich Moskitos aber die Betten sind mit Moskitonetzen ausgestattet, insofern kein Problem. Der Pool- und Aufenthaltsbereich ist gemütlich, es gibt auch zwei Hängematten, in denen man abhängen kann. Insgesamt hatten wir einen schönen Aufenthalt, aber das Preis- Leistungsverhältnis ist im Vergleich zu anderen Unterkünften nicht angemessen. Trotz aller Freundlichkeit des Personals wirkte alles sehr auf Profit ausgerichtet. Wir wurden direkt beim Empfang regelrecht überfallen, sollten gleich alle unsere Touren festlegen, die wir in den nächsten Tagen machen wollten. Wir mussten den Chef erst mal davon überzeugen dass wir erst mal in Ruhe ankommen wollen und dann überlegen was genau wir gerne machen möchten. Das Frühstück war relativ überschaubar es gab ein bisschen Obst und entweder zwei Scheiben Toast und Fertigmarmelade aus Tetrapacks oder das traditionelle Frühstück mit Reis, Bohnen und Eiern. Wir hatten gefragt ob wir noch etwas Kaffee haben könnten, das wurde auch erfüllt, allerdings auch gleich satt separat berechnet. Eine Trommel Wäsche waschen für 18 $ ist auch nicht gerade ohne. Die Unterkunft sieht auf den Bildern deutlich besser als sie tatsächlich ist es ist alles doch sehr einfach gehalten die Betten sind schon leicht durch gelegen.
• Stefan (10/5): Wunderschön - Die Freundlichkeit von Juan Carlos und seiner Familie ist beispiellos gut. Die Unterkunft ist familiär, man fühlt sich wie in einer Dschungel Lodge. Die von seinem Sohn Allen angebotenen Touren waren hervorragend. Jederzeit zu empfehlen!
• Stephanie (4/5): We hadden een prima verblijf, maar een vervelende verrassing bij de afrekening (waarbij een veel hoger bedrag in rekenin - De boottocht met de gids was heel leuk. Prachtige omgeving en een zeer enthousiaste en meedenkende gids. Ook de vele vogels die de tuin van de accommodatie bezoeken. De koude douche, harde matrassen bij de eenpersoonsbedden, maar vooral de manier van communiceren van de eigenaar. De eigenaar was aanvankelijk vriendelijk, maar er ontstond bij de eindafrekening verwarring over de prijs van een aangeboden pakket die van te voren schriftelijk bevestigd was. Hier wilde de eigenaar op terug komen, omdat hij een fout had gemaakt in de omschrijving. In de nieuwe berekening kwam een veel hoger bedrag naar voren, maar ook deze bleek wederom niet te kloppen als je alle losse bedragen bij elkaar op zou tellen (accommodatie + boottocht + diner). Na het aangeven van onze ongenoegen verrast te zijn over de onverwachte extra kosten, wilde de eigenaar niet meedenken in een gezamenlijke oplossing en werden we op agressieve manier gedwongen de nieuwe prijs te betalen.

• Miranda (7/5): - Het tafels en hangmatten rondom het zwembad. Er waren prachtige vogels te zien in de tuin. De slaapzaal/ kantine. We hadden een familiekamer geboekt. We werden geplaatst in een voormalige kantine waarin bedden waren geplaatst. Bovenin was het open. En hierdoor erg gehorig. Alle geluiden ( begonnen al om 4.00 s morgens) van de omgeving waren duidelijk hoorbaar.
• Lars (7/5): Blandet oplevelse. - Fantastisk personale. Og fantastisk guide på flodtur. Flot beliggenhed.Rigtig god lokal mad. Morgenmad helt i top. Vores værelse var godt nok ringe i forhold til pris. Ingen varmt vand ,åben ud til alle steder. Masser af muligheder for insekter og dyr for at komme ind. Ingen terrasse, som ellers var bestilt med. Tror ikke vi fik det værelse vi havde bestilt.

En aangezien we die al de dag van aankomst hadden, had de eigenaar alle begrip om de laatste nachtje te cancelen. Super aardig! Lekker eten , .mooie binnenplaats met vele vogels. Misschien koud water douche, maar dat hebben veel hotels in Costa Rica, was niet echt iets waar ik me aan stoorde.

Die fachkundugen Touren vom Sohn und die authentische Küche der Mutter, sind unvergleichlich. Auch die selbstgebauten Bungalows lassen keine Wünsche offen, einfach top! Ein Abstecher lohnt sich zu 100%

• Karen (8/5): Erlebnisreicher Aufenthalt in der Natur - Das Frühstück war gut, am Vorabend wurden die Wünsche abgefragt, die Menge war ausreichend, der Kaffe sehr gut und für jeden wurden zwei Tassen gerechnet. Die Holzstühle an den Tischen sind zu niedrig und sehr hart. Auflagen gab es keine. Es fehlt eine bequemere Sitzmöglichkeit, besonders am Abend. Der Aufenthalt nur im Zimmer oder im Gästehaus ist nicht ideal. Kleiderhaken zum Trocknen von feuchter Kleidung fehlen in den Unterkünften.

• Chris (8/5): Goed naar ons zin gehad. - Lieve mensen, heerlijk eten, zeer leuke boottocht. De kamer leek op oude schuur mag wel een update gebruiken.
• Cordula (10/5): Sympathischer Familienbetrieb - Die Familie war sehr freundlich und bemüht alle Wünsche zu erfüllen. Wir haben drei Touren mitgemacht (Wanderung, Nachttour und Bootsfahrt). Diese wurden von dem Sohn der Familie geleitet und waren alle sehr spannend und informativ. Der Sohn spricht gutes Englisch. Auf der Terrasse kann man gut Vögel beobachten. Das Abendessen wurde immer frisch und nach Absprache zubereitet und schmeckte sehr gut. Es wurde auch auf spezielle Wünsche (Fisch, vegan) eingegangen. Die Atmosphäre war sehr persönlich. Wir können diese Unterkunft sehr empfehlen!
• Jonas (10/5): - If you like nature and personal assistance, this is the place you need. Hosts are brilliant, they assist you with everything as long as you want it. Lodge is on coast of river. Breakfast is always together with birds watching. One should not expect the lodge as a comfortable hotel. there is not air conditioning. But such personal assistance one wouldn't get in any 5 star hotel. Besides that Alan is very nice tour guide.

Auf unserer 2ten CR Reise unsere 1 te Unterkunft und fast mehr Vögel im Garten gesehen, wie in 6 Wochen vorher nicht. Pura Vida Das wir nicht verlängert haben
• Lies (10/5): - De omgeving en lodge zijn een echt paradijs. De hosts zijn ontzettend vriendelijk. We deden de boottocht en nachttour met de vakkundige zoon Alan. Heel tevreden van! Het eten was ook uitstekend. De kamer overtrof onze verwachtingen. Een oase van rust met heel veel mooie vogels.

• Paula (10/5): In combination with a tour I would definitely recommend. - A perfect stay at Iguanitas Lodge. The whole family is working here together, the mother is in the kitchen, father ist managing the bookings, daughter is also helping and Alan (son) is doing the tours. Alan is speaking English. Breakfast was great and you can also eat dinner (7500 colones + drinks) there (there are not that many other options around). My room was a bit dark and in general pretty simple. It had an AC. For the room itself I wouldn’t book the lodge. The eating area on the other hand is nice. Highlight of the stay were two tours I made: nocturnal tour where we saw lots of frogs and a birdwatching tour in the morning (each 30$). Alan is a very skilled guide and eg. the nocturnal tour was a lot better than the one I did in Monteverde. Rooms rather simple and little light.

• Sebastian (6/5): - Für Boots- und Dschungel Tour sehr günstig gelegen, beides direkt vor der Haustür. Wenn man sich für einen Besuch der Region entscheidet, sollte man sich im Klaren darüber sein, dass man fern ab der touristischen hotspots unterwegs ist und auf Komfort verzichten muss. Keine Klima, keine Auswahl an Restaurants etc. Die locals sind aber extrem nett, zuvorkommend und bemüht den Aufenthalt so schön und erlebnisreich wie nur mgl. zu machen. Trotz des im Vergleich zu anderen touristisch besser erschlossenen Regionen eher mäßigen Komforts sind die Preise ziemlich hoch.
• Thimo (1/5): SLECHTSTE ERVARING OOIT - We hebben al heel wat afgereisd met ons tweeën, maar dit sloeg werkelijk echt nergens op. We kwamen aan in een ontzettend oud hok waar we in moesten verblijven en in de nacht bleek dat het nog dramatischer kon. Voordat we gingen slapen kwamen we twee wormen tegen op bed en eentje op de voetenbank achter het bed. “Goed, we zijn in de natuur, dus hoort er bij.” Dachten we. Terwijl we lagen te slapen hebben er meermaals KAKKERLAKKEN over ons beide heen gelopen. Desondanks de klamboe! Zelfs na het doden van enkele kakkerlakken, hadden we ze nog steeds in ons verblijf. Het was inmiddels 03:00, we besloten in onze auto te gaan slapen. De volgende ochtend wilden we uitchecken en dus ook betalen, maar we hebben dit verhaal voorgelegd bij de eigenaar (de vader). Alles met google translate, want hij sprak geen Engels… Hij moest er niets van weten, werden uitgemaakt voor oplichters, vertelde dat we een manier zoeken om niet te betalen en vervolgens dreigde hij met het bellen van de politie. We zouden oorspronkelijk 113 dollar moeten betalen, maar na een akkoord van 80 dollar zijn we vertrokken. Eenmaal een uur onderweg, werden we geappt door de eigenaar: 'Jullie moeten het resterende bedrag betalen, anders bel ik de luchthavenpolitie en zorg ik ervoor dat jullie het land niet uitkomen.' Na deze BEDREIGING hebben we betaald, omdat hij ons enorm onveilig liet voelen in Costa Rica door zijn meermaalse dreigementen. Het ging ons niet om volledig niet betalen, anders waren we ‘s nachts wel weggereden zonder te betalen. We wilden op een rustige manier tot een overeenstemming komen. Dit lukte niet. Hij had de boeking geannuleerd, zodat we waarschijnlijk geen slechte review konden achterlaten. Uiteindelijk is dit dus wel gelukt. Dus bij deze. We raden dit hotel absoluut NIET AAN. Dit is onze SLECHTSTE ERVARING OOIT met een hotel van Booking, terwijl we al op enorm veel plekken in verschillende hotels zijn geweest. BOEK HIER NIET!
• Rhea (10/5): Paradise - It was so peaceful and beautiful. I sat and watched the variety of birds for hours. I even saw a toucan, my first. It was so tranquil, I needed to relax and I did. I absolutely love it there. That my stay was so short.
• Bettina (10/5): Natur nah und wunderschön - Die ganze Familie ist sehr herzlich und hat mich während meines Aufenthaltes wunderbar betreut. Das Frühstück und Abendessen waren hervorragend. Auch mein Wunsch (kein Fleisch), ist problemlos umgesetzt worden. Die Kanutour war einfach wunderschön. Es gab Affen, diverse Vögel, einen kleinen Kaiman und Leguane zu sehen. Der kleine Pool war einfach erfrischend und es gab an der Unterkunft sehr viele Vögel zu beobachten. Hätte ich vorher gewusst, wie schön es dort ist, wäre ich gerne länger geblieben.

• G (9/5): Absolute Empfehlung - Der große Familienbungalow war klasse, alles sehr gepflegt und mit bequemen Betten, Sofa und privater Terrasse. Pool und der gemeinsame Bereich haben uns auch sehr gut gefallen, Frühstück war sehr lecker und Vermieter sehr freundlich. Hier hat man keine Aussicht aufs Flusstal, sondern ist direkt neben dem Fluss. Muss jeder für sich entscheiden...
• Kerstin (10/5): - Die gesamte Gastgeberfamilie war umfassend bemüht, nett und freundlich. Es war eine sehr familiäre Atmosphäre. Sowohl die Mahlzeiten als auch alle Führungen, die der Sohn mit uns gemacht hat, waren hervorragend.
• Iwan (8/5): Was top! Lekker met zwembad.. heerlijk.. - Het terrasje voor de kamer, uitkijkend op een vogel vermaak waar veel verschillende vogels op af kwamen.. prachtig.. zelfs een aantal toucans grote en kleine.. echt schitterend..👌👌 Geen warm water in de badkamer helaas.!
• silke (10/5): - Äußerst gastfreundlicher, engagierter Familienbetrieb mit sehr gutem Essen. Die Bootstour der Lodge mit Alan war super und sehr informativ. Wir hatten eine tolle Zeit dort.
• Nadine (10/5): Einzigartige Unterkunft in Boca Tapada - Beim sympathischen Allan und seiner ebenfalls sehr sympathischen Familie hat es uns mega gefallen! Wir bekamen das super schöne (für uns luxuriöse) Bungalow, welches sein Vater selbst gebaut hat mit vielen liebevollen Details! Dann der tolle Pool, der besonders für unsere Jungs der Hit war! Da wir zun unserem Zeitpunkt alleine dort waren, fühlte sich alles sehr exklusiv und persönlich an. 😃 Allans Mutter kochte dann auch noch sensationell gut!! Unbedingt dort essen! Wir wären gerne länger geblieben! Auch die Boots-Tour mit Allan an die Grenze zu Nicaragua und sein Fachwissen begeisterte uns! Für uns war dieser Aufenthalt im Vergleich zu unseren restlichen Übernachtungen einzigartig und man unterstützt dabei auch noch eine lokale Familie anstatt ein grosses Resort. Nichts

• J (9/5): Lovely stay in Boca Tapada with pool - Very friendly staff, had a good morning tour in the jungle to spot frogs, spiders etc. They have a bird feeder so lots of birds show up in the morning and we could look at them from our terras or from the breakfast. Large outdoor area where we could dry our clothes. Lovely small pool for cooling down after a warm day. Breakfast was good. Our cottage would have been perfect if it had a kitchen in it for some small cooking.

• Chantal (2/5): Very poor - Many birds We stayed one night in Iguanitas Lodge. When we came there the electricity was not working which we were not informed about before even though there were messages exchanged the same day. I did the bird watching tour in the morning alone. When paying I got charged double even though this was not communicated with me before. There was no hot water. The bedsheets didn't smell freshly washed. All in all pretty expensive and not the best experience.

• Jurriaan (10/5): Little bird paradise - A little paradise family owned. Garden full of lots of colourful birds and many toucans that come very close. Breakfasts and dinners are delicious with fresh juice and fruit. The boat tour to Boca de San Carlos was exceptional and we loved also the hike through the Maquenque reserve. The garden and pool are gorgeous! No need for AC in February.
• Ken (8/5): Not the cheapest but good value given what was provided. - Family run and everyone helped. Son Allen is an excellent wildlife guide with good English, father was in charge and did anything practical and mum is a passionate cook. Huge number of different birds on the feeders. We did great boat trip and walk in nearby woods. There was only cold water. A warm shower would have been nice.
• Alexandra (7/5): Good stay - We appreciated Allan and his family for their kindness and avaibility. The boat tour was very nice, we saw many different animals (crocodiles, birds, monkeys...) good value for money as it lasted almost 5 hours. We enjoyed the pancakes for breakfast, whilst watching the birds (and squirrel!) eating bananas. Regarding to the price and reviews, we thought that it would be more comfortable. The rooms are very basic. Also we didn't have hot water in the shower. Make sure that you ask for prices before asking for services. We did not appreciate being charged 20 US$ for laundry.

• Aline (10/5): Beautiful lodge with abundant birdlife! - Absolutely wonderful place to be. Beautiful and comfortable lodge. Abundant birdlife in the garden. A lovely pool and beautifully located next to the river. The lodge is a family buisness, the mother cooks great breakfast, lunch and dinners and Alan, the son, is the host. He was truly an amazing guy and great wildlife guide! We did a night walk with him, he arranged a boat tour, etc... I recommend the place. Nothing.

• Maxine (10/5): We really enjoyed this place. - We had a lovely stay at this hotel. It is a family run business and they are the nicest people. It is not a fancy resort but is comfortable and clean. The pool is a great place to cool off. They have a nice outdoor sitting area and a feeding station where a lot of birds come to feed. They also make good food.

• Gabor (9/5): Excellent location for nature lovers - It’s at a very good location if you’re interested in nature, the room has AC and the bed was very comfortable. They are offering different kind of activities- definitely go for the boat tour! In general, very friendly host The bathroom was somewhat small and there was no hot water. Although it was hot outside, it was possible to take shower in the cold water, it would have been nice to be able to choose hot as well. Still very much enjoyed the stay.
• Ernest (7/5): Birders’ delight! - Iguanitas Lodge is a good hostel-like location. The owners are polite and helpful. The birding from the pool area is excellent. The meals were good.
• Catherine (10/5): Friendly family run Lodge. - Located in Boca Tapata. This family run lodge with son Allen as a very knowledgeable nature and bird guide. Chef Mother Cynthia cooked delicious meals which included some ingredients from their organic garden tended by Father Juan Carlos. Fruit near the patio attracted a variety of colorful birds including a Toucan creating wonderful bird viewing and photo opportunities.
• Michaela (10/5): Exceptional - Pure jungle feeling in a family-run business. Alan speaks very good English and has a great knowledge of the fauna. Defenitely take the boat tour! All kinds of birds and iguanas could be observed right at breakfast. One thing you have to realize is that due to the high humidity, the robe and sheets are never really dry More comfortable chairs or even loungers by the pool would be nice.

• Daniëlle (8/5): Fantastic bungalow - We stayed in the bungalow which was a wonderful experience. You could hear the sounds of the animals at night and early morning. The lodge is run by a friendly family. The wife can cook very well. We loved breakfast and dinner. It was delicious. The sheets of the bed were not clean. We had some bloodstains on it. Moreover, we paid a lot compared to the prices of the same month or even high season.
• Redwheeler (10/5): Home away from home - A home away from home, run by a super friendly family. We interacted with Alan the most and he showed us around town where we spotted some birds and ate some cocoa fruit. He took us on a night walk (extra charge) where we saw a ton of frogs and a tarantula. The food was really good... some of the best we had on our Costa Rica trip. It surpassed what we got in a fancy place in La Fortuna. Highly recommend staying here for a night or two. On the weekend, a bar nearby has loud karaoke until the early morning.
• Roubik (10/5): Exceptional - I had the best experience here. The food was amazing, the staff was exceptionally kind and accommodating, and the room was perfect for me.

• R. (10/5): Best ever - What a geat and special experience with this family owned place! TOP! We had the Bungalow wirh river view with partly open roof (no rain inside possible). At 5 o'clock you can experience the jungle noices which was really worth it. You are not here to sleap long in the morning, you are here to experience real Costa Rica! What a great experience! This is nothing for a wimpy person and person who are scared of local people. If you want it like home, then please stay at home. If you want something special and the experiece of you life, go for it. The pool and garden was very clean and you can observe birds while swimming. The family is superfriendly and courteous. For breakfast, you can aks for everything and they try their best. Our breakfast was great. Alan who speaks English, is so keen to answer all the questions you have. You can book tours right there and Alan acompanies the tours with explanations in English. Even a neighbour explained me some flower's names while walking along the river and the children waved us from school while walking in the little village. So authentic! Thank you. This was the best place in Costa Rica I met. Nothing. Everything was perfect.

We would recommend this place to everyone. Juan Carlos is a great host, along with his nephew, make a great team as hosts. JUST BRING EAR PLUGS, the local roosters (male chickens crow at 4am!) Roosters crow at 4am
• Tim (10/5): Exceptional - This was the best accommodations of our tour through Costa Rica. A family owned lodge, treated with care and love. Fresh cow milk in the morning to your coffee. We wanted a private fishing experience Costa Rican Style… and we got it as well well as a night tour! The room we stood at, was wonderful, spacious and lovely decorated. It was simply fantastic. Boca Tapada is a very peaceful, rural village… it was a fantastic vacation. Allan, the son, is speaking English well so conversing was fairly easy. Synthia, the wife, is an amazing cook, who treated us with wonderful breakfast and even better dinners! Juan Carlos is from now on my most favorite fisherman! We enjoyed our stay very much and it will never be forgotten!
