Guest Reviews
- philip (10/5): Great venue, definitely stay there again - Very clean, thoughtful host and easy to find and park
- Thomas (9/5): Cozy comfortable place in good location, nice hosts. - Great location, easy to get around. Very comfortable.
- Savitha (6/5): - Cosy Not enough things
- Lee oxley (10/5): Small but top notch! - Good things come in small packages, (that's what my mum told me anyway) and that's spot on for this apartment.
There's everything u could need for a stay on the outskirts of york, for a couple anyway.
the location is spot on as Acomb's many pubs, restaurants and shops are a short walk away, and york isn't far away, tho we used the many buses available! Couldn't find any tea bags in the apartment!
- Helen (10/5): -
- Paulo (10/5): Cozy, lovely apartment with a direct bus connection to the city. - The apartment was quite cozy and nicely distributed - neighbours were very kind too! Kitchen had all the necessities you could need and was quite safe. Distance from the city! had to take a bus every time. Also, the bedroom window had a cracked seal which meant that a very small cold draught came in which meant turning the heating on was a must.
Also on a minor minor note, if you keep the bathroom light on for long, the fan stays on for a long time too even after you've turned the lights off. Just a bit of organising, but means you can't go to sleep right after having a shower.
- Liam (9/5): Ideal for a short break in York - Excellent for a short trip to York. So easy to check in and super clean. Road parking sometimes gets busy
- Fay (9/5): -
- Gillian (10/5): A lovely break in York relaxing and visiting the Christmas markets - Very cosy and clean perfect for a couple with everything you would expect in a quiet area parking not a problem easy walk to York centre or catch bus, plenty of Ubers available Nothing
- Craig (10/5): - Clean fresh good location on bus route Nothing it was perfect for us
- Matijaz (8/5): - Good location if you have a car but want to take a bus to the city. Modern and comfortable with all amenities. It's smaller than expected, would recommend for max two people. Especially with the sofa bed extended (when occupied by 3+) you have very little room to put luggage anywhere. Didn't bother us too much since we were out all day anyway.
- Clarke (10/5): Excellent apartment - Good location, bus stop just a few doors away and only minutes into city centre
Very clean, everything needed was there
Excellent property and will use again I hate to say anything negative but a small shelf, maybe a corner shelf in the shower would help enormously as I struggle to bend to pick stuff up but that's not the fault of the owner
- Rachel (9/5): Ideal have recommended to others - Very clean and had everything you need , good walk to attractions but easily located
- Dhananjay (10/5): Thoroughly enjoyed my stay. - Location was well connected to a bus stop. It also had essential groceiry stores and a bakery nearby.
- Naomi (10/5): - Lovely clean and tidy space. Ideal location for us. Difficult due to space restrictions but little more clothing storage would be handy, and a shelf in the shower....nothing really a problem though.
- Lidia (7/5): Estancia agradable - Muy bien decorado, que tuviera lavadora, cama de matrimonio cómoda.Fácil aparcar y gratis! La paella no se podía utilizar ni el horno.Estaban sucios.El apartamento muy justo para 4 personas.
- Rachel (8/5): Lovely place to stay for two people - Very clean and tidy, nicely decorated with all that was needed. Lovely shower room.
Nice touches, such as; a pint of milk, kitkats, loo roll.
Good bus route to York city centre just outside.
Nice pub up the road, cheap and cheerful! Local shops a short walk away. It’s very small for any more than two (there were three of us), with very little storage! No room in the kitchen at all for food, except the fridge.
The bathroom is en-suite, so getting to it, if you’re staying on the sofa bed, means going through the bedroom.
Road is fairly noisy.
No instructions for checkout other than time.
- AIVARS (8/5): -
- Aminder (8/5): -
- James (7/5): - Good location Would be fine for 2 a bit tight for 3
- Kathleen (9/5): Nice Apartment - Clean, nicely decorated apartment. It was compact but adequate for a week's stay. Comfortable bed. Bus stop nearby for transport to city centre or city within walking distance for us. Local supermarket nearby and a tavern which provides meals if required. Storage for clothes a bit limited but could manage for a few days.
- Lee (10/5): A great place to stay. Clean, comfortable & safe - The property had everything on hand It was very hot on the day of our first stay. A fan would have moved the air around
- Andy (9/5): Superb - Great location for exploring York and the surrounding areas. Bed was very comfortable and the flat had everything needed for a short stay. Everything was very clean and would 100% stay again for another trip to York! Easy check in instructions and plenty of parking on the road outside.
- Marli (7/5): A nice break away only minor issues - The property itself self was great
Lots of kitchen facilities and perfect amount of space
Washing machine which was very handy
Towels provided
Clean too No lift so made it hard with a pram,
A lot of noise throughout the night with people and the road nothing the property can help I suppose…Spare bedding for bed sofa slightly damp upon arrival
Parking difficult again nothing the property can do about this
- Elena (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leigh (8/5): Good stay; clean, well kept apartment, but small - It was fresh and clean. There was everything we would need. The milk and kitkats were a welcome touch, as was the shower wash, bathroom soap and washing up liquid! Thank you. The bed was comfortable, the shower was hot, both important things! It was small. We have stayed in 2 other apartments in the same property previously and they were both quite a lot bigger. I was glad there was only 2 of us. I was surprised that the large, bottom-opening bedroom window didn’t have a restrictor to limit how far it would open, as it could be very dangerous, particularly for children.
- Kirkby (8/5): Very good - The apartment is lovely, clean and a lot better than a hotel room . It's on a busy road so has good bus links in to the City. The location and noise from busy road
- Irene (5/5): Cramped but ok - n/a Rather cramped
- Iris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jade (7/5): Grea apartment in a great location but the bed needs replacing. - Easy to find and easy to access the property. Location is pretty good if you prefer to be away form the city centre and don't mind a bit of a walk. There is a bus, but we chose to walk, which took about 40 mins to the city centre.
Apartment was very clean and well equiped, although some items are a little worn at this point and could do with replacing (frying pan). We found the bed to be very uncomfortable with a noticable sag in it, which left us with pain in our backs by morning. When I checked under the bed at checkout, I realised why... The bed has clearly been broken and repaired several times as there are wooden parts added. But also several slats had shifted or were missing entirely so that the matress was sagging through the gap. Only realised that this was the cause of the issue after 3 uncomfortable nights. I feel that a comfortable bed is the most important item when paying for accommodation, so feel that we had to mention this. The bed should be in good repair and comfortable.
- Hazel (8/5): Clean, comfortable and convenient for a stay in York - We loved our stay at Holgate Hideout. We used the bus a lot as cheap (£9.60 for whole family day pass) and close to the flat. It had everything we needed and the pull out bed surprisingly comfy with the mattress topper. Thanks for having us, would definitely use again
- Ann-maria (10/5): Exceptional - The flat was presented very well . The flat was well equipped including a pint of milk and tea and coffee to use ..The bed was very comfortable. The check in was seamless with lots of information provided in advance including an online check in.
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Thomas (10/5): An excellent stay - Very clean and very good communication from the host
- Bonnie (9/5): Fab little space just outside central York - Lovely apartment, perfectly set out given the size of the place to make it feel surprisingly spacious. Great location near the Acomb high street, and central York was only a half hour walk. Street parking was easy and nearby. Hosts were very accommodating and responsive with letting us check in a bit early and when we had an issue with the shower – new one fitted the following day whilst we were out which was great. I would definitely return to their properties. The shower did stop working but I really can’t complain as these things happen and they were so helpful in dealing with it, even offered to come out and look in the same night if needed.
- Guoda (9/5): All you need is there! - The best equipped accommodation I’ve stayed probably! Really good location and the flat set up is brilliant. Noisy upstairs neighbour - woke me up at 8am on Saturday by playing loud music.
- Eliassen (8/5): Very good - Nice flat 30 mins walk from city centre. Kozy and comfortable.
- Clair (9/5): Fab! - Fantastic place, well set up with everything you would need. Clean and comfortably fit our family of four. Bus was easy to get from right outside. Loved the extra touches of milk and snacks. Bed was comfortable. A great wee place! Main front door to apartment block needs looking at - we found it usually left open and we discovered it needed a real slam to securely close it - probably not a nice noise for the people living on the ground floor.
- Ambley (10/5): Exceptional - Really liked the way the apartment was set up. They made the best use of space possible. No complaints at all.
- Kirby (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steve (7/5): clean , comfortable, bijou - it was a clean and comfortable small apartment ideal for 2 persons although it does have a sofa bed which we utilised as we were 2 males ravelling together so one had the bedroom and one had the sofa bed. The location is on a bus route although we were visiting family 15 minutes walk away so used the different bus route which passed their house. Being an ex resident of York (35 yrs) we know all the sights and sounds and you need the week to visit the most popular if you are new to the city. only 3 things really and 1 didnt relate to the facilities directly.
It has a washing machine in the kitchen but it would be helpful to have somewhere to dry the clothes (we stayed a week so needed to use it once) and other than the bathroom towel rail struggled to dry clothes. We struggled with drawer space for clothes. we had a cupboard with a couple of hangers but apart from the bedside drawers we didnt have anywhere to put our clothes for the week.
my biggest gripe and i still cant accept the reason given for the extra cost other than it isnt trying to take advantage of the time of year related to extending the stay for an extra night. we paid an average of just over £100 per night and asked to stay 1 extra night for we we were quoted an extra night rate of £180 reduced to £150 when politely declined. The reason for the enhanced night rate was because of New Years Eve. What extra benefits does the customer get for this night - nothing it is just an extra night stay.
- Malgorzata (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic location, close to the city centre without being right in the middle of all the commotion, the pull out bed was very comfortable Couldn't find the recycling bins! So sorry for leaving some of the boxes out
- Simon (10/5): A great apartment! - It's a lovely apartment with all the amenities I needed. I was clean, nicely decorated, and free on-street parking was a real bonus. Check in is simple and it's a 30 minute walk into the centre, or the bus stop is 2 minutes walk away. I would recommend Holgate Hideout to anyone looking to stay in York.
- Paul (10/5): Excellent stay and great location. - The property was extremely value for money had everything you could need and lovely little touches too was made to feel like home, very clean. Nothing, I would highly recommend this property to anyone wishing to visit York.
- Mirosław (10/5): York is a great place to watch snooker. - Very good location. 20 minutes to the center of this beautiful City of York. Quiet and peaceful.
- Tommy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Philip (9/5): Superb -
- James (9/5): Lovely cosy stay - Excellent communication and flexibility from the owner. It was very clean and comfortable It is a small almost studio flat with sliding doors to separate rooms. Suitable for a couple but a bit tight as a family of 4!
- Lee (8/5): Very good -
- Barnes (9/5): happy wee hideout - Easy access to city centre, bus stop right outside. Plenty parking spaces. Nothing to complain about, really nice wee flat.
- Polly (7/5): lovely little bolthole for a quick visit to York - Lovely, clean and well equipped, cosy little apartment. Lots of parking available, and close to everything. Would highly recommend Sadly the coffee machine promised was missing, and the sofa was really uncomfortable to sit on.This flat is only really suitable for 4 if it's a family with 2 small children. Definitely not suitsuitable for 4 adults, so I am glad my Aunt and Uncle didnt stay with us! The bathroom is inside the bedroom, so guests on the sofa wouldn't be able to use it in the night without waking everyone up.
- Nathalie (10/5): Very pleasant - This appartment is about a 10 minutes drive (or 30 minutes walk) to York’s attractions. It was very clean and had everything we needed. Don’t worry about the rather busy street, it’s very quite. We were there for five nights. Really nothing negative to say about this place.
- Grzegorz (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean and nice
High recommend to others
- Sally-ann (9/5): Had a fab time as a first time in York made all the better by great accommodation - The location was fab. Just as it was advertised. We hardly used our car all week ( except for going to Whitby for the day)
It was clean and really nicely furnished. Like home from home. The extra touches were nice too ie tea and coffee already there and even a pint of milk. Thank you! The only thing we couldn’t fathom was the hot water?
We couldn’t seem to get hot water through to the sink. The shower was separate so that was fine. We got around it though as we just boiled the kettle to wash up. We think it might have been us???😳
- Jay (10/5): Exceptional - Would like to see the key safe details within the booking.com app - had to phone the host
- Kim (10/5): Exceptional accommodation. Would highly recommend - Immaculately clean, great location offering easy parking. This property had everything you would need and was super comfortable.
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional - Superb, lovely flat, 20min walk to centre, nice quiet area, everything you need . Nothing
- Ronda (7/5): Lovely apartment with good bus service into York city centre. - Clean and comfortable. Slightly smaller than expected, for more than 2 people. A shelf in shower would be good and a street map of York would have been perfect.
- Sam (10/5): Exceptional - The property was very clean and comfortable. Also perfect location.
- Abby (9/5): This was a beautiful, well equipped and easy to find - Loved the location, the decor and apartment size and how helpful the owners were ❤️ Confusing system for entry
- Catriona (7/5): Perfect for couples, not really suitable for families. - Lovely space. Facilities were great. Great on street parking which was always available. Would be ideal for couples looking to explore York but stay outside of the town. Not really suitable for families. We were a family of 2 adults and 2 children and the flat is very compact. Both the bed and sofa bed were very uncomfortable, the owner has added a foam mattress topper for the sofa bed, however we still found it unbearable. The street is very busy and noisy all day and night. As other guests had pointed out a fan would be nice as the heat was too much with windows needing to be closed. Windows also didn’t have keys which was a stress with young children. A full length mirror would have been appreciated as mentioned in other reviews.
- Primoz (7/5): Good -
- Janis (10/5): Exceptional - Small compact but just right for our needs . A lovely wee flat . Everything available was provided , a shop was a few minutes from flat . And a busstop outside near at hand to and from York Centre.
- Berend (6/5): Pleasant -
- Andrea (8/5): Excellent, comfortable and value for money. -
- Peter (10/5): Immaculate, comfortable, modern flat near York - Immaculate, well appointed flat, has everything you need for a short, medium or longer stay. Host is fantastic and replies immediately. Convenient location just outside the hustle and bustle of the centre but close enough to get there quickly, there is a bus stop steps away but easily walkable too. Super impressed with this flat and host and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. We would definitely stay here again. Nothing.
- Matt (10/5): Wonderful appartment - Everything was great but loved the little touches. Milk in the fridge, bedside tables both sides of the bed, washing machine, salt & pepper, some washing products in case we'd forgotten ours. Got nothing here: this place had everything we needed.
- Erica (7/5): Modern apartment lovely and clean but quite compact and beds not the most comfortable but was nice - Clean and modern Both beds slightly uncomfortable and quite compact flat
- Cathie (8/5): Very good - Very clean comfortable apartment. Kitchen facilities were excellent. You had everything you needed. Milk and chocolates were a very nice touch. Lovely clean towels and plenty of pillows. Bedside table a little close to bathroom door. Knocked my leg
- Samantha (8/5): Very good -
- Adam (10/5): Great place to stay, no hassle and great location - Awesome Nothing it was fine
- Khan (9/5): Superb -
- Nicola (9/5): This was an ideal base for exploring York. - Perfect for a couple of days away. We used the park and ride to commute to the town centre.
- Ellis (10/5): Brilliant apartment. Had everything you needed. Brilliant location. Would definitely stay here again -
- George (8/5): Very good -
- Dgp33 (8/5): Very good - Everything you could want in the bedroom (love the touch-sensitive bedside lamps), kitchen and living area.
Perfect location for Acomb and getting into York itself No hooks in the bathroom. Had to decide between the floor and the closed lid of the toilet for my clothes, both those coming off and those going on.
- Mhari (8/5): Excellent accommodation - Had everything needed , very clean and comfortable. Close to town centre. Would have liked a full length mirror 🪞 😉
- Suzanne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Josh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (10/5): Go check this apartment out - The location. 1.5 mile walk to the minster. The apartment was well looked after. Clean and welcoming.
- Sue (9/5): It was a good base to go to other places. - The location was great to get into York & were pleased to have the basics tea, coffee, sugar & milk. Some local information like taxi numbers would of helped & places to eat. also a small chest of drawers would of been good.
- Anthea (10/5): Exceptional -
- Johannes (9/5): Splendid and light place in York to stay - It is a lovely little flat and by far the cleanest of already clean flats we stayed in during our holidays in Britain. The big windows make the flat light and cosy, even the sleeping couch was comfortable.
The location a little outside the city centre (about 30 minutes walk to the Minster, 25 to the station). Still a lovely little park and a co-op supermarket that fulfills everyday needs.
The hosts run the flat as a family even though not as a selfused holiday home it is not a big company behind it but friendly and caring people.
As soon as we get back to York this apartment will most certainly be our place to stay! There are only two reasons why we did not give 10 out of 10.
One is the not too central location, that we knew of and for us caused no harm.
The other thing was the fact that the shower trickled all the time (causing no further problems and no noise), a bed light was broken and the fridge was so iced that it made considerable noise (like a running washing machine in the neighbour apartment). These things could not be fixed during our stay of four nights (which would have been nice) but the very friendly owners said they'd get it solved instantly after our stay. So for the future there will be no problems.
- James (7/5): A nice short trip away with my wife and children, would recommend - A lovely, clean and well equipped apartment. It was a nice surprise to have a stock of coffee, tea and milk. The room would benefit from a fan for the hot nights. The open windows did help but this meant being disturbed by pedestrians in the early hours shouting and swearing whilst stood outside the building
- David (8/5): Nice place, great for a base too explore from - Kitchen, shower It was very warm when we stayed, a fan in the room would have helped, as with the windows open the noise from the traffic outside was pretty loud.
- Tara (9/5): Superb -
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lucy (9/5): Great location - Apartment is in a great location, saw a few reviews of people saying it was further from the city centre than expected, however there is a bus stop right outside the apt (number 1) which is maximum 10 min journey into York centre which was great and cheap. Host was very quick to help with a few missing things from the apartment and got them dropped off to us. I would say that the apartment is only big enough for 2 people, we did struggle find places to store our stuff but it didn’t ruin our stay 😊
- Julie (10/5): fab! - everything, great for two people, well equipped, good location nothing
- Samantha (9/5): Superb -
- Sian (9/5): Superb -
- Peter (9/5): Comfortable little holiday home for 2 - Excellent cosy little studio flat for 2 people for 10 days. Plenty of on street car parking nearby, and a Coop supermarket 3 minute walk away.
There is a sofa bed in the KItchen/living area to accommodate 1 or 2 more guests but imo the flat might get a bit crowded if staying for longer than a couple of nights The property is a bit further out of York centre (probably a good 30 - 40 minutes walk). There is a bus service but we found it difficult to make sense of the timetable on the York bus website, so some hard info would be very useful for guests I think
- Jeong (9/5): Superb - Bedroom was great with a beautiful view. Sofabed was not comfortable.
Tiles in the shower booth was not clean.
- Ramandeep (9/5): Superb -
- Chen (10/5): Exceptional - so cozy and pretty and good location! we all spent good time in there during the new year eve!
- George (8/5): Very good -
- Abbott (8/5): Very good -
- James (10/5): Wonderful location, clean and modern. - Lovely small apartment. Absolutely perfect for the three of us. Lovely area. Nothinf
- Isabelle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kirsten (10/5): Exceptional - It had everything you needed down to the washing up facilities, towels, coffee even milk in the fridge. All the little details were very considerate. The only thing i could think of is missing is a sweeping brush just to keep the kitchen area clean as opposed to taking the hoover out. But still great
