- Adama (1/5): I was charged 600 euros for an unsanitary apartment I couldn’t stay in—and I wasn’t given a refund. - My family arrived at the apartment around 18:00 and found it in an extremely unclean state: the floor was dusty (black residue stuck to our fingers), the bathrooms were unhygienic, and there were bugs inside the fridge. The apartment was simply uninhabitable.
I contacted the person in charge, a man named Said, to request immediate cleaning. He informed me that no cleaning could be arranged until the following day. Since my family was expected to check in to an unsanitary apartment, we had no choice but to move to a hotel.
I asked my wife to return to the apartment to document the conditions with photos, but Said refused to let her back in.
Over the phone, the owner confirmed that I could cancel the booking and would be refunded. However, despite multiple attempts, I was unable to cancel the reservation through Booking.com—the website repeatedly indicated that cancellation was not possible.
In the end, the owner falsely claimed to both Booking.com and to me that cleaning services had been offered and refused. In reality, I had requested cleaning, but it was not provided in time.
I feel I was deceived and unfairly charged by an owner who failed to be transparent about the apartment’s condition and misrepresented the situation to Booking.com.
