Guest Reviews
- Sergei (10/5): - Останавливаемся уже второй раз. Удобно для посещения Сигирии и как база для поездок по окрестностям. Отличные и доброжелательные хозяева, вкусная еда, хорошие номера.
- Benjamin (10/5): - Fantastic customer service. Staff are so friendly and generous.
- Isabelle (5/5): - Location was good, there's a path that you can take past the elephant wire and onto a rock that looks towards lions rock which was nice and meant you don't necessarily need to go to the paid viewing spot that's really popular.
The greeting drinks on arrival were a nice addition. The shower was completely unusable and was ice cold, and then you turn the tap and then boiling then if you add cold in and it's a good temperature for a few seconds then cold again. The bathroom could have been better cleaned but wasn't too bad. The mosquito net was ripped and let in mosquitoes and the pillows were stained and completely flat.
- Sarah (10/5): Sehr entspannter Aufenthalt - Sehr nettes Personal, unfassbar gutes Essen und schöne Anlage und Pool
- Marc (9/5): - Personal muy amable, comida muy rica y fantástica localización!
- VASILIKI (10/5): - Το προσωπικό ήταν πολύ φιλικό!
Η πισίνα είναι υπέροχη, από εκεί μπορεί να δεις το Σικιριγια.
- Joanna (9/5): Great place to stay - Staff couldn't be more helpful. The food was really good. The grounds have lots of fruit trees and birds and its a pleasant place to be.
Very close to Sigiriya and a tuk tuk ride to restaurants.

- Ben_j (9/5): Lovely private guest house with easy access to Lions Rock, Minneriya National Park and Dambulla Cave - A wonderful guest house in a private setting, surrounded by palm trees and the jungle. The family who run the guest house were very welcoming and informative and the food was the best (voted by the entire family) we had during our three week holiday in Sri Lanka.
- Ana (9/5): Peaceful location with the bed staff a d super views - Quiet and relaxed environment, friendly and welcoming staff, great breakfast, lovely pool with great views , I would recommend it The bed, particularly the pillows could improve but still were fine
- Martina (10/5): Great!! - Amazing and kind people! Place is great and the location is very close to the lion rock and pidurangala rock!
- Martin (7/5): Enjoyed the stay and the food reduced our opinion of the hotel. - Food in general was excellent and the best aspect of the hotel Room was a little tired and a bit far from the town.
- Agathe (7/5): Great value for money - The location is at perfect walking distance to the the entrance of the park. The room was correct, but the bathroom and the pool didn’t meet my standards. Still a great deal for only one night.
- Giedriusvil (8/5): Would be awesome with a little bit of repairs. - Breakfast was good, staff awesome. Location for nature lovers. Room had a big cockroach, not a big problem, but the bathroom was terrible, the handle rusted out completely, shower super cold, wires dangling on mirror, bathroom window to a semi shared balcony with stuff for cleaning. Massages and safari was pricy.
- Saime (4/5): Friendly, good location but expensive considering the hotel confort. - I stayed 2 nights, management is so friendly and helpful. The sheet and the cusions are so old and has stains.
Does not make me feel comfortable to sleep.
- Mark (7/5): Nice place, could be great with a little more tlc.... - The location is great, the staff are friendly and happy to help out, especially the cook in the kitchen. The food was lovely and reasonably priced. It's a shame they didn't pick up on some of the smaller bits like refreshing the room for us and making sure the table cloths were wiped down between people. The walls in the rooms are quite thin and we could hear the person in the next room on the phone.
- Khristine (8/5): Really sweet people , the coolest beer in Sri Lanka and really close to tourist destinations . Was right by a huge stand - Really sweet people , the coolest beer in Sri Lanka and really close to tourist destinations
- Susan (9/5): Superb - Amazing place which felt like a peaceful retreat, with pool with view of Sigiriya, birds and butterflies galore and a stunning view of Sigiriya and Pidurangala from a small rock at the back, about 5 min walk from the pool to the top. 10 min walk to Sigiriya Rock park entrance. Atmoshpere was low key and helpful. Tuk tuks/drivers helpfully arranged, including Dambulla for afternoon and driver to Kandy. Location meant I could go up Lion's Rock when I felt like it..no need to book anything. Quiet temple opposite hotel, with huge white buddha you can see from top of Sigiriya. This provided a wonderfully restorative and enticing start to my Sri Lanka trip after long flight. Really glad I came straight here (initially considered Ngombo). Food was good. Shower was more of a trickle
- Vanessa (8/5): Very good - Everything was okay, the standard room was ok but the facilities are not top notch, the water heater is really loud and the electricity was gone three times in our two nights stay (only around an hour each). Don't expect any luxury.
The breakfast is basic but sufficient and the restaurant looks not very nice with all the messages from guests all over the walls. Reminded us of a public bathroom but that might just be our impression / subjective. Everything ok for explaining the area but not great enough to enjoy staying at the property.
- Xavier (9/5): Happyness ! 1000 Thanks! - Nice and pleasant place ! Nice persons ! Very Good meals! Everything went very well here! We were very well received! The staff was very kind and the restaurant chef was very welcoming and attentive! The pool is superb and clean! Nothing particular …
- Brisbane (8/5): Great place for a quick and easy stay. - Beautiful distant view of Sigariya from our room with balcony.
Easy walk to the entrance.
Hosts were lovely and gave good advice on best time to climb (afternoon around 3.30pm), which was ideal because most of the time we were shaded by the rock.
Pool was also great Bathroom smelt a bit musty but was fine otherwise. No fan in room, only aircon, which I personally don't like on throughout the night
- John (10/5): Great location friendly staff who can help you plan your trip in Sri Lanka - Great breakfast fruit eggs coffee tea as much as you like Nothing
- Louis (7/5): Cheap and comfortable and you get what you pay for. The pool is the highlight. - Great pool. Nice bed. The breakfast isn’t great. Quite bland. One fried egg each and loads of bread. A smoothie would’ve been nice. Asked for curry in the evening and they said they couldn’t make one. Odd.
- Søren (8/5): Authentic family driven hotel - The Sinhagiri vila is placed near the lion mountain and the pidurangala rock in a quiet area with beautiful garden surround the area.
The hotel owners are very sweet and serviceminded, and served delicious lunch/dinner in the restaurant at a very affordable price. The hotel is a bit tired, the pool area had a very limited number of sunbeds and chairs.
- Rosa (1/5): Worst stay so far in Sri Lanka - Nothing They gave us the wrong room, we arrived late and instead of the beautiful room advertised we got an old smelly room in the old house.
Pictures in booking show the new building but they put people in the old one which needs maintenance.
Bathroom
Smelly, toilet broken and sink also.
When I told owner this morning he was so rude to us
Been in Sri Lanka for 2 months and that was the worst stay so far
- Greg (8/5): Very good -
- Špela (9/5): Superb - The room was okay, it had a nice balcony. They also have a very pleasant pool. The breakfast experience was very enjoyable. The location is great; you can walk to both rocks and the village center. If you walk home at night in the dark, it can be a bit scary (because of nature, not people). However, there are plenty of tuk-tuks available.
- Dico (10/5): Amazing place! - Very nice location. From the pool and the garden you have a amazing view of the lion rock. The pool is really nice and very clean. The owners are super helpfull and the food is outstanding. The rooms are nice and have their own balcony. We wod definetly recommend this place and come back again! Going away!
- Robert (7/5): Well located for access to Sigyria rock. - The guesthouse is well located for access to the archaeological site at Sigyria - aproximiately 20 minutes walk to the main tourist entrance. The food menu was expensive by Sri Lankan standards - but there is no real alternative as there are no restaurants close by.
- Hun (10/5): Exceptional - Remote locations Nothing
- Jordy (9/5): Superb - The family that run the villa and their staff are amazing! I felt so welcome, like part of the family. The food at the restaurant is delicious and they grow the produce themselves on the property!! I did the cooking class and safari while staying, both were fantastic. They helped organise a tuk tuk for sunrise hikes and transfer to the airport. A true hidden gem!
- Isabella (9/5): Superb - The location, the food and the people were excellent, wonderful and helpful. The place is full of exotic fruit trees, there is a swimming pool and a rock nearby which you can climb and from where you can see lions rock. All the rooms have a balcony and some also a veranda. The room was not so nice though, quite dark and damp and not so cosy but maybe the end of the rainy season added to it.
- Andrew (10/5): Top place - Amazing to be able to walk to lion rock. Staff were incredibly helpful (including trying to help me track down the bag lost on my flight). They organise a great safari and whatever else you need. Nice food. Pool wasn't available but that's just because it had been raining 3 days straight. Wasn't really hot enough when I was there anyway, but if you're fussed about a pool ask ahead.
- Arek (9/5): Superb -
- Teresa (10/5): Thank you! I’d absolutely come back! - Staff was incredible! Always so kind, so attentive!
We booked our safari with them and got the absolute best driver in the whole park, we’re super happy with it!
Room was clean, pretty and comfortable!
The pool had views to the rock, and the hotel was walking distance to it!
If you’re lucky enough, you can actually see elephants roaming around at dusk or dawn, the owner’s son saw one while we were having dinner and got us all on a jeep to go see it quickly!
I would really recommend!
- Karina (6/5): Basic accomodation - We saw some elefants right at the gate, location a bit outside the center, so you get to experience sort of a jungle feeling. You can walk to lions rock. You can book a safari with them You need a tuktuk to go home at night as there is elefants around. Room was very basic for the price. We had better money-value options than this one.
- Manon (10/5): Lovely guest house, very quiet and relaxing experience! - Lovely guest house, very quiet and relaxing experience!
Great location close to Lion’s and Pidurangala rocks. Lovely owners who helped us organise all our activities and cooked delicious food. The pool is very nice, nice view on the garden and Lion’s Rock. The bathroom had a funny smell and the double bed came with 2 single bed sheets.
- Trish (8/5): Very good - The accommodation was very close to Lion Rock and the other rock you can climb. This makes it convenient if you want to do sunrise and / or sunset. The host are super friendly and helpful. You cannot walk into town and would require a driver or transport. Shower pressure was low
- T (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sem (10/5): Good stay in Sigiriya - Sinhagiri Villa is a charming and authentic place, perfect for backpackers looking for a convenient and affordable stay near Sigiriya Rock. What you see in the pictures is exactly what you get – simple and functional rooms that provide all the basics you need for a short stay. While the comfort level is modest, it’s more than adequate if you’re traveling light and focusing on exploring the area.
The location is exceptional, just a short walk from the iconic Sigiriya Lion Rock, making it convenient for early morning climbs to catch the sunrise. Additionally, the property features a beautiful garden with a rock from which you can enjoy sunrise and sunset views, offering a serene environment surrounded by nature.
The highlight of Sinhagiri Villa is undoubtedly the warm and welcoming owner, who went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Their kindness and helpfulness left a lasting impression and made us feel right at home. If you’re seeking a laid-back, budget-friendly base with a personal touch, this is a great choice!
Overall, Sinhagiri Villa offers excellent value for money, combining a prime location, comfortable accommodations, and outstanding hospitality, making it an ideal choice for travelers visiting Sigiriya. .
- Megan (9/5): Superb -
- Josh (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic stay. The owners are such nice people and really want to help you have the best trip possible. Great knowledge of the area and trips to go on.
- Lia (9/5): Overall was a great stay and we loved how close it was to walk to Lion Rock as taking a tuk tuk to Lion Rock can be expe - We really enjoyed the new pool and sunsets at the rock on the property overlooking Lion Rock and Pidurangala. The staff and owners were very friendly and Prasath was very attentive and sweet. He worked hard and he specifically brought back a beer I requested and surprised us with little treats for the kids!
- Niklas (9/5): Superb - Best food in sri lanka
- Govert (9/5): Superb - Lovely people, very helpful and kind. Recommend if you look for excellent value for money and close to the big rock
- Mayuri (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful hosts they were so friendly and helpful for everything we needed! Delicious food and nice clean room with garden view. Short walk to Sigiriya.
- Martina (9/5): Superb - The villa is Just 1 km from the entrance of Lion Rock and has a beautiful garden with a rock from which you can see sunrise/sunset.
The hosts are really friendly and helpful. They can help you to arrange several activities and give useful tips.
Having dinner in the villa Is more expensive than outside, but the food is amazing!
- Guus (8/5): Good food good people - Lovely staff. Very helpful. A good spot for exploring the big rocks. This place has potential.
- Jaydeb (10/5): Cozy home near lion rock - Located vlose to lion rock, very helpful host, good breakfast. Host assisted in arranging transportation and booking tickets for yala safari, mirissa dolphine watch etc. at very reasonable price in a professional way and made our 8 days Srilanka trip memorable. Nothing
- Tania (10/5): Wonderful stay with two exceptional people - I think we had our best time in Sri Lanka in Sinhagiri villa. This hotel is as eco-friendly as it gets. It uses completely renewable energy (also for the air conditioning) and the food in the restaurant is 100% organic. The vegetables and fruit you have for breakfast and dinner come from their garden and are grown without using any chemicals or pesticides. It is also the best food we have had in Sri Lanka. The vegetable curry dish comes with a whole array of dishes that are mouth-wateringly delicious and bursting with flavour. Breakfast is a treat as well with fresh fruit from the garden and local breakfast dishes such as Sri Lankan pancakes or coconut roti with sambal as well as fried eggs and toast. In addition, you are in the middle of nature so it is likely that you will see a peacock in the garden each day! Sriyani and her husband are also two of the most warm-hearted people you will meet. We had wonderful talks with them and they went out of their way for us. We actually consider them friends now and hope to see them soon again! They are passionate about the environment and run their hotel and restaurant in a way that is good for the local surroundings, the people and the planet. Nothing
- Alisha (8/5): Great value for money - This hotel had lovely staff, very good breakfast. Room was clean and bed comfortable with aircon all for a very good price. Highly recommend Nothing
- Jelte (9/5): Superb -
- Nicolas (9/5): Superb - Great people, great breakfast ans donner.
- Abi (10/5): Amazing host / family - We loved the food, the hospitality of the host / family - who honestly made the property and our stay. A touch of home travelling. We loved the location, walking distance to lions rock. We couldn’t stay for longer!
- Anirban (9/5): Superb - Helpful staffs, nice rooms, excellent location
- Johannes (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ceredig (9/5): Superb -
- Oldmannoplan (10/5): The value for your money is exceptional. The Hosts are amazing. Have fun! - It’s a smallish, family run boutique hotel. You’ll enjoy home cooked meals and a very warm welcome while you’re there. While the rooms may be basic they are very clean and well maintained. It is convenient to local historic sites as well as other points of interest. We climbed Pidurangala Rock one morning and the hosts arranged a predawn tuk tuk driver for us. If you’re looking for an enjoyable stay as you explore Sri Lanka you won’t go wrong here. ** Not the property's fault but good for travelers to know** One note, my friend and I were self driving and had just clicked on the hotel from Google Maps to get navigation. The pin must be placed in the wrong location because we were routed about 20 minutes out of the way. When we entered the physical address found on booking.com into the navigation it took us directly to Sinhagiri Villa.
- Hetal (1/5): I would not recommend this place. Dirty rooms & not so nice breakfast. - it was very very basic. we got cocnut roti but no daal. they could really really do better it was just about receieving us and letting us go. Rooms were very very dirty, beddings not clean. Breakfast very bad.
- Hao (6/5): Pleasant - Nice staff, room with good view, ac is working but slowly to cool down. Family run, any dinner request you need to book earlier otherwise long wait. They can customize to your preferred cooking way. Basic breakfast, mosquito net has many dead insects on it, for $50 per night triple room, you can get a better place to stay elsewhere
- Roger (7/5): Great - Lovely quiet spot with great hosts. Room was spacious and comfortable enough with a nice balcony. Good spot a little out of town if you have transport. Wifi was poor. Food was only OK.
- Sarah (9/5): Hosts where so helpful and kind enough to take us to catch our bus v early morning - Rooms are so spacious and clean. Hosts are so helpful and kind. Situated within 10 minutes walking distance to Lions Rock and a v short tuk tuk ride into town. No breakfast menu to choose from.
- Dhruti (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dhruti (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ulviyya (8/5): Safe and clean stay - Safe family house. Friendly staff. Clean room. Everything was good
- María (10/5): Best place in Sigiriya - Best accomodation we stayed in Sri Lanka!
Everything was just perfect.
The location it's great, surrounded by nature and wild animales.
The accomodation was super clean, comfortable and beautiful.
The owners were so kind and helpful. They looked after us, helped us with our trips and always had time for a chat. We really enjoyed our meals there ❤️. Really unique and generous people.
They helped us organising our Safary trip and that was outstanding, Tharu was an excellent guide :) thank you!!!
Definitely we can recommend this place to everybody and if one day we go back to Sri Lanka we'd love to stay here again. Nothing
- Neil (8/5): Very good -
- Rajesh (6/5): Pleasant -
- Simmons (9/5): Superb - The owners were lovely, and the accommodation comfortable. Close to the sights/viewpoints for sunrise/sunset hikes.
- Anonymous (7/5): Good - Peaceful environment Insects crawling on my bed
- Maris (7/5): Good - Breakfast lady organised transportation to Anuradhapura for good price; driver was very good. Communication. Also location - far from both rocks.
- Sarah (9/5): Great stay! - Brilliant location, 2 minutes walk to lions rock but also a rock in the garden you can climb for free which over looks both Pidurangala and lions rock. The family are wonderful, breakfast was brilliant and the family were wonderful. Really recommend staying
- Thi (7/5): Good - The location is close to all the main attractions (Lions Rock and Pidurangala Rock) it is a short tuktuk ride away which was convenient. The booking came with breakfast included which was fruit, bread, egg and hoppers. Simply but tasty. We were able to do our laundry, however keep in mind it gets sent away. They did it within a day. Dropped it off at 9am and returned at 6pm. It's through a third party so payment in cash is expected when you receive your laundry.
The hotel arranged a tuktuk into town in the evening, I think someone who works at the hotel. It was a 1000 rupees to get in and 1000 to get back.
The AC worked really well. If you stay here, come prepared with mosquito repellent, there's a lot of them which can't be helped. The room came with a mosquito net.
I had originally booked this based on a past review saying they take card, but they only do cash so worth keeping in mind. There is an atm near Lions Rock, but it's worth coming prepared before you arrive.
- Lina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alun (8/5): Great place - Lovely friendly staff, good breakfast, excellent safe off-road parking. Very convenient for lion rock. Rural location. Good food in restaurant. Just a little bit too far from main restaurant bar area of sigiriya, we were advised not to walk lanes at night due to elephants.
- Ashwin (1/5): Worst experience - I didn't like anything They gave us very bad room . Not the room they show on Google photos. Too many mosquito, lizards and frogs in room. Badly maintained. Breakfast was worst. Room was very cheap and uncomfortable not worth what you pay for. Staffs were rude at times .

- Nihal (8/5): Great choice for a couple of nights stay! - Beautiful forest setting, with comfortable rooms and restaurant. The owners themselves look after you and it’s great place to explore sigiriya from. Electric showers not so great, but so hot and humid, cold showers were fine!!
- Laura (10/5): Amazing atmosphere! - We had such a good time there!! It felt like coming home because it’s so familiar. The food is delicious. We also booked a tour to Polonnaruwa, which was very special!! I got sick during the trip and they treated me like a family member, made tea for me and they also offered to bring me to the doctor. We can only recommend this Hotel! Thank you for everything ❤️
