Guest Reviews
- Perera (10/5): -
- Smith (1/5): - Only location Staff and food
- Simon (10/5): Amazing - Wow what can I say…
From getting out of the car and being greeted by Thilak and his team I had one regret….We only booked the one night and regret it wasn’t longer(we are booking next year now)
The peace and quiet was perfect
The food magnificent
The staff so attentive (even at 4am when we had to leave they where there with their beaming smiles)
Now onto the facilities got to say bang on looking over the lake made it more like an adventure than just a normal stay with all the wildlife and sounds of the jungle around you
It was if anything magical being so close to nature
Arriving in the afternoon we had a few relaxing hours around the pool before dinner cooked to perfection (Sri Lankan curry amazing)
Thank you for making our very short stay so wonderful and we will be back next year but for longer Nothing we didn’t like
- Madhavika (7/5): It gave us homely feeling , overall its superb - Value for the money /staff service / homely Essential materials must be provided before requesting ( ex: toothbrushes)
- valentien (9/5): - We stayed 3 days at Pothana Village in Sigiriya and we absolutely love it. Such a beautiful place, surrounded by nature with stunning views over the lake—truly peaceful and spacious.
The owners go above and beyond to make you feel welcome, and the service is warm and genuine. A special mention for the care they provide: they made our daughter’s birthday extra special with a thoughtful celebration, and they also took great care of those in our group who weren’t feeling well (typical travelers issues)—something we truly appreciated.
The restaurant offers a great mix of local and international dishes, all very tasty.
What makes it extra special: in the evening, elephants sometimes pass by nearby—an unforgettable experience!
Mid-range in price, but so worth it for the setting and atmosphere. Highly recommended! One point of attention: the bathroom is modern but could be cleaner.

- Will_E (9/5): A quiet and beautiful getaway - The staff here are extremely friendly and helpful. The room itself is a fair size and was clean and well presented. The main building gave safari lodge vibes and serves good food, it is all outdoors though so don't forget your mosquito spray for the early morning and evenings if making use of it. The pool was a good size and had plenty of sun beds and large umbrellas.
- OINDRILLA (10/5): Amazing and beautiful stay - This property is exceptionally good. We have travelled so many countries and lived at various places but this place is different. The entire team is so so good and so damn hospitable. It felt like we were living with out extended family. Please do visit them and share the love with them. This will definitely change your mindset about staying in a hotel.
The entire team went out of the way to help my daughter with her cough and cold and was always there to do anything and everything we asked for.
If I ever visit Sri Lanka this place is going to be constant.
🙂 Nothing at all
- Florian (7/5): -
- Lenka (8/5): Líbilo se nám moc, pan majitel byl velmi pohostinný, hezky se chovali k nasim detem :) ochotny personal a nic nebyl prob - velmi milý personál, hezká atmosféra, snadná domluva všech výletů i transportu starší vybavení
- Maxime (9/5): - Nice friendly and available personnel who always want to do the best for your stay, nice pool, nice park with nice wild life (birds, squirrel,peacock,...), great service from the owner to bring you to any place you would like to visit. Nice food and wine, great breakfast. Nothing particular, but always consider that you need a tuk-tuk or car to go out if required, like often in Sri Lanka
- Brittanni (9/5): If you want to stay in a beautiful, peaceful property that makes you feel like nature is right on your doorstep you shou - The staff at Pothana Village and the beautiful property were a highlight of this stay.
The pool was beautiful, and the gardens and nature surrounding the property made our stay extremely peaceful. The staff were so kind and friendly, and the owner was so helpful and knowledgeable - he assisted us with booking tours, driving us to town and picking us up, and no request was too hard to fulfil. We got to see monkeys right outside our room, and so many beautiful birds as well - even peacocks that visit the property! The rooms were spacious and cool, and there was hot water every time we showered. The food we had at Pothana Village was also delicious; we enjoyed an English breakfast (the food kept coming, we had a variety of cut fruit, pancakes, Sri Lankan Omelettes, toast with jam and butter, with fresh juice and tea and coffee as well), and the Sri Lankan curry was one of the best we tried in Sri Lanka.
The owner provided us with warmth and hospitality during our stay, and I would recommend staying here if you are wanting to visit Sigiriya or Dambulla, or just want to enjoy a quiet retreat where you can feel at one with nature.
- Kowalczyk (5/5): - The pool area was the biggest highlight of the property, the pool was very large and clean. The staff were helpful and even let as do a later check out which was a great touch and i really appreciated it. The rooms really need a renovation, the fridge was really dirty/molded(not sure if molded is the right word) inside that you did not want to use it. When i got to the room in the shower there was a bunch of hair which was really disgusting. The location was also very annoying as you had to take a 30/40 minute walk to get to Sigiriya or take a tuktuk everytime. The food was also just okay for a hefty price, expected at a resort but it was just okay.
- Nathalie (10/5): Great stay with wonderful people! - We had a wonderful stay at this hotel! We were picked up from the airport in a very luxurious car arranged by the hotel. The owner’s son personally came to collect us, which was such a nice touch. Everything was perfectly organized — he was waiting for us with a sign, and drove us safely and calmly to the hotel.
Upon arrival, a welcome drink was ready for us. The room was spacious and comfortable, with very good beds. The hotel itself is a beautiful jungle resort with a large swimming pool — a perfect place to relax.
The staff were incredibly kind and helpful. They assisted us with organizing great activities, including an elephant safari and an early morning trip to climb Lion’s Rock. Everything was arranged smoothly.
The breakfast was amazing — very extensive and delicious.
Although the hotel is located a bit outside the town of Sigiriya, this was absolutely not a problem. The staff were always happy to arrange transport and help us get anywhere we needed to go.
We highly recommend this place and would definitely stay here again! Dangerous road where elefants walk at night! So you cannot walk alone in the night.
- Małgorzata (1/5): Zamiast trzech planowanych nocy jedna koszmarna i nieprzespana, rano czym prędzej się stąd wynieśliśmy, omijajcie szerok - Nic, jeden wielki koszmar Wszystko: ciemności, kurz i brud z wielu tygodni, pleśń w lodówce, mocz gekona na ścianie, rozpadające się zamki i uchwyty, smród, komary w pokoju.
- STASINI (10/5): -
- Klaudia (8/5): Cudowne otoczenie i ludzie - Cudowny personel.
- Μαρια Στεφανη (8/5): - Excellent stay, amazing staff always ready to help with everything! The food was good. We relaxed by the pool, they arranged the excursion to Lion Rock, helped us with our transfers to Tissa, and found us a guide for our tour in Yala. Thank you for the stay, you made part of our trip truly unique. If there is one thing I could mention, it would be that the rooms could use a bit of refreshing.
- Renáta (6/5): Túlárazott. - A szállás személyzete kedves és segítőkész volt. A környezet szép. Erősen túl árazott. Nincsen szinten tartva a szállás. A képek sokkal jobbak mint a valóság. A falak nedvesek és kopott a festek. A fürdőszoba is felújításra szorul.
- Laura (7/5): -
- Marinus (9/5): Safarihotel - Host Dennis was the best! Nothing Dennis couldn't solve for us
- OKSANA (6/5): - Good location, spacious rooms, comfortable beds. The team at the hotel was friendly and welcoming The rooms felt a bit dark, and the shower could be improved. The towels were quite worn. Breakfast options were limited, and service was a bit slow, but the staff tried their best.
- Mikaela (10/5): -
- Guro (10/5): Perfect for a couple days stay! Very cozy staff! - Staff was amazing, so kind and very helpful. They even gave us a ride, and helped us plan our trips. They did everything they could to make us feel safe and comfortable. Thank you for having us! The bathrooms could have been nicer and the road to the village was a bit bumpy. We also had some animals in our rooms, but the staff came and helped us get them out.
- Marina (8/5): -
- Chloe (8/5): Our stay at Pothana Village was a real testament to the family who run and own this property. They are extremely kind, h - The family running Pothana Village are absolutely lovely. They were very attentive and willing to help in anyway they could. The room was very big and private and the swimming pool had a relaxing feel to it. The wifi was also really strong and reliable. Unfortunately we had issues with the hot water in our room. We would have also loved if the room was wiped over each day as there was unfortunately lots of droppings from insects and geckos.
- Zohra (7/5): -
- Pooja (9/5): - Cleanliness Swimming pool it is very cold
- Hart (7/5): -
- Sahan (10/5): - Best Best
- Saimounika (10/5): Unforgettable memories - Owner is pretty passionate about maintaining the property and making the guests very comfortable. The stay was wonderful
Very near to the lake and we even had the opportunity to watch peacocks all the day
The pool was extraordinary, we swam for thrice in two days stay
Amazing time we had there
He even gave us complimentary prawns which tasted amazing Nothing as such
- kylie (10/5): A peaceful, luxurious and welcoming escape in Sri Lanka - Denis and his team welcomed us from the start. Denis is a genuinely gracious host and he and his staff went above and beyond from the start and attended to our every need always friendly and full of warmth. The property is stunning with beautiful rooms and gardens and a crystal clear pool. The food was amazing and beautifully prepared.
- Ravindu (10/5): - Wow, this place is absolutely amazing and beautiful, with so much wildlife right at your doorstep! You can see elephants, monkeys, peacocks, and tons more. The hotel staff were fantastic too. I’d definitely come back and stay here again. It’s such a beautiful hotel!

- Andy (10/5): - We had a great stay in this tasteful accommodation with a beautiful pool. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. The breakfast buffet was very good and varied with lots of fruit and Sri Lankan and international specialties. The dinner menu also had something for everyone and was delicious. When our son had to go to hospital, the hotel owner drove us there personally and managed everything for us. Both Lions Rock and safaris are within easy reach. There is also an Ayuvedic spa just 10 minutes away, where you can get a massage, for example. The hotel is a unique experience not only for children, as peacocks and chipmunks can be seen in the hotel garden and monkeys sometimes peek over the wall. We had a wonderful four days there and really enjoyed it. Thanks to the super friendly and accommodating team. Hopefully, we'll see you again sometime.
- Jessica (10/5): - Het was heerlijk rustig gelegen.
- Lotte (8/5): Super friendly staff, very accomodating - Super friendly staff, very accomodating, also arranged our safari in Minneriya. rooms are nice and cozy, swimming pool is great. area could do with some more decoration, it's spacious but also a bit dull. Also, even though it's extremely common in Sri Lanka, using asbestos plates for construction is no longer acceptable
- anonymous (6/5): - The staff people were very nice. Breakfast was good. The place is not well maintained... The property is large and not green. There's a pool but it isn't inviting because there is no shade, and just dry land around it. We had 2 double rooms - one of them had an awful smell. Not good value.
- Alba (9/5): - We loved the people working there, they are all very nice and attentive. Special thanks to Rohan for making our stay amazing! We had a lot of fun:)
We also loved pool and the rooms! Very spacious and super comfortable beds!
- Patrick (9/5): Nice huts at remote location with pool and wildlife - Nice place in a relatively remote location. The owner is very business-minded and forthcoming offering additional services such as scooter rentals, transport or tours. The pool is nice and well maintained and the hotel offers various food options both à la carte and buffet style. The little huts are well kept, nicely equipped, clean and comfortable. The staff is very friendly, talented in many languages and attentive to needs of the customers but also friendly at all times. A big bonus are the multiple dogs, peacocks and monkeys the roam the premises and add additional life to the nice location. Prices and what you get for the à la carte dinner were relatively expensive - the same is not true for breakfast though.
- Yannick (10/5): Lovely place to discover Sigiriya - We liked the location with a beautiful swimming pool, the personal was taking care of us, made lots of recommendations for the visits and they organized everything for us.
- Pali (8/5): Clean and comfortable rooms. Very attentive staff who responded to our requests promptly. - It is a very clean property; well-maintained garden enhanced the peacefulness of the environment.
- Clare (8/5): Very good - Lovely, chilled and tranquil place about 10 mins drive from Sigiriya.
It's off a dirt track from the main road, so you will need a tuk tuk to get to Sigiriya or any other restaurants. Easy to organise from reception. Or the lovely owner might give you a lift!
Super attentive staff. It was like 5 star hotel service - always being offered cake, fruit etc. When we had an early elephant safari trip, they were up at 5 to make us tea and coffee and to make sure everything was organised and on time.
Dinner was delicious - although it can take a while. So order early if you're hungry!
All in all, a lovely relaxing sanctuary for our 3 days in Sigiriya. I wish we could have stayed longer! The rooms are a little tired and you sometimes don't get hot water. But its absolutely worth the cost we paid.
- Nadira (9/5): Superb - A lot of open space
- Sarah (9/5): Superb -
- Bronte (9/5): Peacocks for breakfast (no! Live) - Rural location, spacious grounds, excellent food, helpful friendly and welcoming staff.
Family very happy with quality and quantity of Sri Lankan dishes.
Air con good. Kids loved pool. Hot water doesn't start till well after the sun is up (solar only), so if leaving early for an excursion, or returning early from climbing the rock , you might get a very refreshing shower. The door to the back veranda was hard to open quietly (dragged on tiled floor).
Recommande +++
- Murtaza (9/5): Superb -
- Jeena (6/5): Okay stay - Very warm and helpful host and staff. Great food. Rooms are a bit cramped. Open dining space attracts insects that fall in food in the night.
- Karen (9/5): A little piece of paradise in Sigiriya. - This place is incredibly tranquil and peaceful, a great place to unwind. The gardens are full of lovely trees with monkeys (macaques and grey langurs), squirrels and birds and a few visiting peacocks. The owner and staff are very friendly and will go out of their way to ensure your stay is positive. The rooms are a good size and very comfortable. There is a wardrobe and room to unpack if you are staying longer. Tea/coffee facilities in room. The back verandah was private and a nice space to sit and enjoy a drink. The pool was kept perfectly clean. The restaurant area is beautiful with its super high wooden ceiling (and fans) and nicely furnished- and friendly and attentive staff. Breakfast was BIG and delicious: fresh tropical fruits, pancakes with coconut and honey, Sri Lankan omelette, toast, yummy fresh squeezed juices, tea/coffee. Location is about 15 mins to Lion Rock by car. They can easily arrange drivers for you. Highly recommend a pre-sunrise climb on nearby Pidurangala Rock to watch the sun come up and views over to Lion Rock, too. We also enjoyed a day trip to Polonnaruwa ancient ruins (hot but interesting). There are restaurants in Sigiriya town you can organise a tuk tuk to, or walk to after visiting Lion Rock. We don’t do a safari as we’d done one in Yala NP but plenty of safaris nearby to Minneriya NP etc. The days were very hot and not a lot of shade around the pool itself (one shade umbrella only), but the staff were accommodating in moving the sun loungers to under the trees by the pool instead for us. More umbrellas would be a good future addition. The restaurant has a good lunch/dinner menu, but best to pre-order meals for a particular time when you can so wait time is less. A little fridge in the rooms would be nice to keep water bottles etc cold- but I know the property is new so I think they are still adding little things like this in.
- Luca (9/5): Superb -
- Viktor (10/5): It was our second stay at this property and it was excellent -
- Shaima (8/5): Great spot for family stay in Sigiriya - The staff 10/10
Food 10/10
Space 10/10
Value for money 10/10 Drain flies - having insect around when u r staying close to the river and all the beautiful lush green landscape is given. But the drain flies were a buzz kill.
- Tifany (10/5): - Very boutique style hotel, you will feel like you have a private hotel, very quiet, not many rooms, service is amazing very personalised and everyone is so nice and helpful, also location is good close but secluded, and many wild animals around the gardens which is great. food is delicious, and room are spacious. Very happy with all, super recommended.
- Darshan (10/5): - The food and service were really good. The owner and manager made us feel welcome and took care of even the small needs. The pool is great and the property borders a lake so you'll be away from the crowds while still being close to Lion Rock. The rooms had AC, were spacious and comfortable but could use some more love.
- Dorothy (8/5): - Stayed 3 nights in a twin room. Exactly like picture with balcony area overlooking back of lake. Breakfast was plentiful. Only had dinner once but the food was very good. Staff are lovely and the pool area is very relaxing. Beautiful Peacocks on the property.
- Rodrigo (9/5): Superb -
- Jacob (10/5): - We stayed for 3 nights Denis and the staff were so lovely and helped us with organising safari and hiking, only a short drive to town, best place we’ve stayed in Sri Lanka can’t wait to come back
- Carol (6/5): Disappointing - The pool and the hall/restaurant area, peacocks wandering in the grounds, very quiet. It was too isolated with one hotel driver only that quoted double the price than PickMe for a taxi. Also no tuk tuks close by (and we were told no Uber or PickMe would come to the hotel) so the manager phoned a local one for us but I think we paid far too much for the journey to Dambulla caves and back.
The room was ok but was a bit musty smelling and lots of ants in the bathroom which could also do with being painted and updated. There is a lovely ‘hall’ where the restaurant is but it took an age for food (1.5 hour wait) and the first meal we had was very salty - the manager was very apologetic and the staff were friendly but just did not work for us, we left 2 days early.
- Viktor (10/5): Wonderful stay and location - Wonderful location.
Newly build spacious rooms
Easy access to sights and restaurants
Nice lake view.
Elephants coming really close to hotel Bathrooms really could be updated. But it’s not that bad.
- Sudesh (2/5): Very poor -
- Mirjam (10/5): Perfect location close to Sigiriya with amazing staff - Quiet location with serene beauty, away from the street noise short drive from Lions Rock. Very big swimming pool in a large garden. Rooms were spottless and have a comfortable terrace with lake view.
From the moment we arrived the staff made us feel welcome with their friendly demeanour. The team went above and beyond to cater to our needs. Outstanding food, the meals prepared by the chef were exceptional, crafted with care and tasted amazing. The staff’s warmth made us feel like family, they ensured we had the best experience.
- Stephanie (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing Stay – Great Food & Wonderful Service!
We had an incredible time at Pothana Village Hotel! The location is beautiful, surrounded by nature, and the garden is full of freely roaming peacocks—such a unique experience. If you’re lucky, you might even spot elephants at night.
The food was absolutely delicious. Every meal was freshly prepared, full of flavor, and definitely some of the best we had during our trip. You can really taste the love and effort that goes into every dish.
What really made our stay special was the outstanding service. The staff is incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help with anything you need. Whether it’s organizing activities or just making sure you’re comfortable, they go above and beyond.
If you’re looking for a peaceful and authentic place to stay with great food and excellent hospitality, this is the perfect spot. Highly recommend!
- Maarten (10/5): Elephant stay! - Great pool, spacious rooms and the best part is that the elephants walk through the garden at night -
- Sonja (9/5): A break away from the hustle and bustle - This beautiful hotel is set a little away from the main town, so you will have to have a walk to get anywhere. However, the food is lovely and the staff are incredibly attentive. They were very happy to help with anything we needed.
We loved the resident peacock and the sounds of nature all around us, and the peace from the hustle and bustle of the town. It was a little difficult to access, which made it hard to get out and about. There could have been more vegetarian and authentic food options, but when asked, the staff were only too happy to help.
- Surain (8/5): Great place to unwind, loved the big pool. Staff were super polite amazing. - Very quiet place, great place to unwind Bathrooms needs upgrading
- Afroditi (10/5): Best place in srilanka, 200% recommend! ❤️ - Pothana village is truly the best place to stay in the area and probably the country, we 200% recommend it!
It is a beautiful oasis in the sigyria area and a true ode to this beautiful country. The hotel is built with amazing taste and perfect facilities. Small private bungalows that have all the luxuries you need but also make you feel surrounded by nature.Sorrounded by a beautiful natural park and a lake, we woke up with peacocks in the garden and a beautiful pool🏞️🌱
On our way there we even bumped into an elephant and it's often possible to spot elephants near the place. 🐘❤️
The staff was extremely professional and spoke great english. The hotel owner is the kindest man, perfect English, and very knowledgeable, showed us around the area, helped us with our morning hikes and gave all the best advice for the continuation of our trip. He made our trip to Sri Lanka very special!
We only wish we could have stayed even more and will recommend it to all our friends back home! ✨🥰
- Hector (10/5): The perfect stay, great value, extremely kind staff. - We’ve had an absolutely perfect stay here. The staff have gone above and beyond to make us comfortable, especially the owner, Dennis who was so welcoming and kind (e.g by giving us complimentary lifts to places nearby). The pool is lovely, the perfect place to sit and relax. A big highlight is also the food - really tasty and great value. We highly recommend this place. Nothing at all.
- Paola (9/5): excellent stay in the middle of the nature - We enjoyed our 4 nights stay at Pothana Village. Very quiet, relaxing and spacious setup, situated a few hundred meters of the main road right next to the lake. You are in the middle of the nature and you can see all kinds of animals passing through. We saw wild elephants and colourful peacocks entering the garden as well as water buffalo's in the lake. The friendly owner Dennis can help you arrange your day trips to the many sites around. The pool is refreshing after a day of hiking. We can highly recommend staying here when visiting the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka. you will need transport like tuctuc or a car to go around
- Kushan (7/5): Good - Lake View Road to Hotel
- Julie (10/5): A great place to relax after 5 busy days on the road with friendly hosts. - The staff were very friendly, we were greeted with a cold washer on this hot day along with fresh papaya juice.
Room was spacious, clean & comfortable.
We a group of 4 women were all happy with our welcomed stay. Relaxing large pool
We ate breakfast & dinner at the resort one of the best during our travels.
