Guest Reviews
- NIGEL (8/5): - The hosts Michelle and Gary went out of their way to help us, during terrible rains, which destroyed the access road. Thanks, again, to both of them!
- Peter (9/5): Beautiful farm with stunning views - The location is stunning between the mountains.Comfortable cozy cottage
Quiet and peaceful
- Victor Kühn (10/5): The best place I've always been in my entire life! - I honestly don’t have the words to describe how incredible our stay was. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed. Since it was already late at night and the road access with our car made it difficult to go back into town, the hosts went above and beyond and kindly provided us with food. This was absolutely not expected, but they were incredibly thoughtful and attentive.
They even made a fire for us and were always available, making sure we felt comfortable at all times. The place itself is amazing — the views are stunning, and the chalet/house is very well maintained and taken care of.
Overall, this was the best place I’ve ever stayed in my life — not only because of the location, but especially because of the people who hosted us. They truly made all the difference and made us feel welcomed and at home.
- Roneé (10/5): - Views are absolutely stunning. N.A
- Lara (10/5): An escape to a quite sanctuary - The hosts were friendly, helpful and accommodating. The views and surrounds spectacular. A farm fresh setting, in the middle of the mountains and in nature. Glorious
- Keith (9/5): -
- Stefanie (10/5): Wunderschöner und besonderer Ort! Wären gerne länger geblieben! Preis-Leistung unschlagbar! - Unglaublicher Ausblick, entspannte Ruhe, tolle Gastgeber, super Braai, leckeres Frühstück
- Wildervanck (9/5): -
- Lisa (10/5): Hidden gem close to Tsitsikamma National Park - This is a hidden gem: Staying at Helpmekaar Farm was one of the highlights during our South Africa/Garden Route trip!
While getting there can be a bit tricky (but possible with a normal car), it's definitely worth it: The property is very quiet, you can see the milky way during the night, you have your own Braai/BBQ fire place, the hosts are lovely, and it's very relaxing staying there.
We drove around 50 minutes from Tsitsikamma National Park to the Helpmekaar Farm before continuing our trip towards Addo National Park. Nothing negative
- Paula (10/5): -
- Michael (10/5): - Everything
- LYDIA (10/5): A perfect get away , a place that will stay in mind forever - A perfect get away .. far away from city lights , into the nature, a deep sky nature , Beautiful setting on a mountain , friendly and caring Gary and Michelle ! N/A
- Lindsay (10/5): -
- Adrianna (10/5): - The most gorgeous views of the valley and hills, room was stunning and very spacious, bathroom was absolutely gorgeous. The little pool overlooking the property was the perfect start to your morning. Breakfast was delicious! We wish we stayed longer! The drive up was interesting (bumpy, gravel roads) but we had fun navigating it
- Erica (10/5): Relaxing, cute, special little place tucked away in the mountains - The little cottage we stayed in, is sweet and cosy and cared for in details. It was comfortable and quiet with all the needed appliances and amenities. The views are stunning on all sides and we were able to star gazing. The spring water was amazing to drink and shower in. We also bought some of their made honey. I could have definitely stayed longer. The outside light on the warehouse / stable should have a motion sensor so that it only comes on when needed, because it did make it more difficult to see the stars and took away a bit from the experience. Also, the pool is natural and we didn't have the courage to plunge in it. It had algae, frogs and probably more life at the bottom, even though it had a breathtaking view. It can be tricky to get all the way there with a city car or if it rains.
Nichts
- Alessia (9/5): -
- Chade (10/5): Perfect farmstay - Everything is absolutely breathtaking and wonderful. Michelle and Gary are wonderful hosts and their farm is something really special. Nothing
- Barbara (10/5): -
- Linda (10/5): Lovely, quiet stay with all the comforts - A lovely old, well kept cottage. It was well-equipped for self catering and even supplied braai wood, charcoal and fire lighters. Nothing
- Martine (9/5): Amazing cottage to have a good rest between the mountains. - Beautiful surroundings, lovely people, I really enjoyed the nature and some rest.
- Francois (10/5): Will definitely visit again and recommend to our family and friends to go and stay there in future - The view and to be in nature Everything exceeded our expectations
- Damian (10/5): Perfect countryside getaway with lovely hosts - The hosts were absolutely wonderful and helpful. The location is breathtaking - perfect if you want some peace and quiet and have the feeling you are surrounded by nature. We were able to light a fire and sit under the stars. A dip in the natural pool was amazing after a warm day. Cute dogs and great affordable breakfast prepared with love. 10/10 Nothing
- Elana (10/5): When can we go back?! :-) -
- du preez (10/5): - Die heerlike berglug was so verfrissend, alles was skoon en netjies.
- Khwloud (10/5): - I had an amazing stay at the farm — the service was truly the best. Michele and Gary were exceptional hosts who made the experience memorable from start to finish. They are genuinely wonderful people who go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The farm itself is absolutely beautiful, peaceful, and well kept. I couldn’t have asked for a better stay and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing and special getaway. I loved everything
- Adelheid (10/5): Lovely hosts, beautiful location and attention to detail Wish we could stay longer - Lovely location and scrumptious breakfast Not applicable
- Gardner (9/5): Relaxing and spectacularly beautiful - Everything was just perfect - the hosts were super friendly and welcoming - the location is spectacular and the little old farm cottage was just beautifully quaint. It had everything that was needed for our stay. The scenery is just beautiful and the swims in the dam was awesome. There is nothing to not like.
- Alec (10/5): Was the perfect stop over spot - Perfect space, beautiful view and a very professional and kind host, what more can you ask for. I have no negative things to say.
- Zandbergen (10/5): - Schitterende omgeving.
Michelle and Garry are so nice!

Nada
- Steven (10/5): Splendid accommodation - Splendid location. Nature at her best. Perfect peace. Lovely room well fitted out. Lovely hosts. Absolutely nothing negative. There was nothing not to like. Everything was splendid.
- Esihle (10/5): The perfect break - The property is beautiful, secluded and truly a breath of fresh air, the cottage is old and quaint, with spectacular views! Michelle and Gary are the best hosts, very informative and quick to respond! They provided us with a booklet of activities that we could do in the area and were very friendly. We ran out of gas for the heater and they replaced it immediately, they even offered to get us food since they were on the way to town, it was one of my favourite stays and I definitely will be back! I understand why Michelle said we shouldn’t do the drive at night, you’ll miss the signs! The gravel road is long and requires patience but we managed in our Kia picanto
- M (10/5): Farm Stay Fave! - If you like Farm house stays, this is your place to go!
- Hosts are so sweet and kind
- Excellent recommendations and tips.
- Clean and has everything you need.
- Breathtaking views
- 45 min. From Tsitsikamma
- Super safe and friendly town
- Adorable animals
Thank you Geary and Michelle! More like tips- Lots of hills and gravel, highly recommend driving a large SUV. Also it can be quite cold at night in August, so bring layers (there is a portable heater though).
- Clinton (10/5): Lovely apartment with a very comfortable bed combined with fresh mountain air and host friendliness. - Awesome location set in the mountains.. Very unique accommodation with exceptional finishes.
- Michaela (10/5): Truly amazing! - We spent the weekend tucked away in a small farm cottage, surrounded by the quiet beauty of the mountains. Waking up to golden light spilling over the hills and the crisp, fresh air was pure magic. Inside, the cottage was warm and cosy—crackling fire, soft blankets, and the scent of wood made it feel like home. It was the kind of peaceful escape that makes you breathe deeper, slow down, and truly rest.
- Fleur (9/5): -

- SHELLEY (10/5): Lovely hosts Michelle and Gary! We will definitely stay there again if in the area! - Accommodation was just gorgeous. Well thought out and kitted out for absolute comfort! We would've loved to not be in a hurry to leave as it was just amazing out there.
- Wendy (10/5): Wonderfully quiet and restful space with walks and farm views. - Quiet.
- Marilize (10/5): Exceptional - It was a wonderful stay. Beautifull and with superb taste. Helpful and supporting Hosts. It was far more than what we expected. Had a chef's breakfast out of this world to round it off - With soft music and cozy fireplace. Thank you for all your effort and friendliness. Will strongly recommend this. .
- Preiss (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rebel_egis (10/5): Exceptional -

- Christo (9/5): Superb -
- Anonymous (9/5): Comfort and beauty in a tranquil little paradise - We loved our stay in this tranquil little paradise immersed in beautiful nature, especially watching and listening to the many birds. Michelle and Gary were very warm and welcoming. They take excellent care of all their guests. Our room was very comfortable and had everything we needed plus great views of nature. We hope to be able to come back soon.
- Bruce (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leila (10/5): Wonderful little retreat - The location
The guests were attentive but not intrusive
Breakfast was wonderful
- Ingrid (10/5): Exceptional - What a magnificent place! We've relaxed here for the weekend and everything was just what we were looking for. Piecefull, with amazing views and great hospitality from Gary and Michelle with their cute dogs. The walk from the house directly into the mountains where cattle is free roaming made us sweaty and the natural pool was a welcoming treat. Evening visit of a bush buck, while we were braaiing under the milkyway. A piece of paradise tucked away between the mountains.
- Alina (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful place, highly recommended👌
- Mark (9/5): Superb - Quiet farm setting
- Marina (10/5): An amazing place with incredible views. Rest for the soul away from the noise. -
- Elisa (10/5): Stunning - Beautiful farm in a beautiful environment. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and friendly, we loved our stay here.
- Steenkamp (10/5): Exceptional -
- Trevor (10/5): Relaxing oasis in the valley, peace and quite with amazing hosts. - The location, time and effort that have been put into this property is amazing, such a beautiful location and setting. Nothing.
- Sophia (10/5): Paradise - This was our favorite stay on our trip. It is such a peaceful place and the hosts were so kind and friendly. We wished we could have stayed much longer
- Mary-ann (10/5): A peaceful stay a few kilometers out of town. - The self-catering unit was delightful, and included everything needed to make our stay comfortable - including salt & pepper and olive oil which was thoughtful. The cottage is set close to the main house and guesthouse, and is located in a pretty valley setting. The hosts were friendly and advised where to eat out in Kareedouw.
- Coetzee (9/5): Beautiful stay. Really a gem. - Not that the owner can be blamed for this really but when they are hosting people in their home it is very loud and unpleasant in the room attached to the house - again I don't blame them but when you're only there for a few days then a couple of hours of intrusion adds up fast.
- Annemarie (10/5): It was amazing - enjoyed every moment . Was just too short - We loved the old farmhouse and the location of the farm
- Phindile (10/5): What a breakthakingly oustanding stay to enhance a lifetime adventure - Michelle, her husband and their dogs are special people. It is very rare to travel to a "remote" location in this country and feel absolutely welcome, they on top of that were generous with their hosting. From supportive information about how to access the property all the way to ensuring little amenities like dishwashing liquid, pegs and bleach disinfectant in the lavatory are available to offering us the use of their braai materials to prepare our food. I didn't want to leave LOL
The beds are super comfortable, I don't remember the last time I slept on a single bed before then but their beds MORE than made up for whatever 'trauma' I endured in my youth, hahaha. The house/cottage is kept in pristine order for the age, please be careful with this piece of our history.
Did I mention they have dogs; you can tell these are good dogs who understand their role in the homestead but are also playful, wish I hadn't just come down from the Otter so I could play with them. If anyone has a challenge with that property, they are hotel people and that's okay.
- Charmaine (7/5): Good -
- Sara (10/5): Do yourself a favour and stay here! - This is an absolute must stay!
The farm is unbelievably beautiful, and Michelle and Gary (the owners) are the best hosts you can wish for. The views are breathtaking, and the room (we stayed in the Valley View Room) is beautiful and super clean. The bathroom was a particular highlight.
The owners are lovely and so helpful - they really made us feel like we were at home (Gary even helped us with the braai, as both of us were absolute beginners!). If you're passing through this part of South Africa, I highly recommend you stop here. Make sure you're staying enough nights to properly enjoy the property - there are even nice hikes to do from the farm itself. 13/10!!!
P.s. the 2 dogs are an added bonus if you like dogs - the best boys you'll ever meet Nothing! Everything was absolutely perfect.
I've seen other reviews mention the road to get to the farm - we had a little Suzuki Espresso and we made it up and down every day without difficulty (and we're not great drivers!). Just need to take it slow.
- Rodger (10/5): Fantastic farm stay - Location amazing
- Claire (10/5): Tranquile, comfort, welcoming & picturesque. - The tranquility of the setting & gorgeous farm cottage are beautiful. Mich & Gary are incredibly warm & welcoming which adds to your lovely stay.
- Frederic (10/5): Perfect place for doing stuff like Addo Park and Port Elisabeth area. - We had a wonderful time. Unfortunately we had to fly out very early. Maud made us a beautiful take away breakfast. William gave us a ride to their beautiful beach next door. Outstanding dunes and an amazing landscape. Very lovely accommodation in deed. At pretty close to join in for the Addo Park safari. Lovely restaurants near by. Our stay was to short.
- Errol (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vorgers (10/5): Exceptional -
- Aj2022 (10/5): Mountain Bliss and Farmyard Fun: A Weekend to Remember - We had an unforgettable weekend at this incredible place! The mountain view was absolutely breathtaking and made for the perfect backdrop to relax and unwind. One of the highlights was the owner taking the time to teach my son how to milk cows and feed the ducks – such a unique and heartwarming experience that we’ll cherish forever. The hospitality was exceptional, and the atmosphere was so peaceful. Highly recommend this place for a family-friendly getaway! Nothing
- Girlie (10/5): Quite, beautiful and relaxing. Food for the soul. - Beautiful scenery None
- Angela (9/5): A wonderful place to go to unwind and enjoy nature! - The hosts were wonderful. The farm setting was ideal, and allowed for very nice hiking and mountain biking. There was also a dam, and the hosts kindly allowed us use of their kayak, which was a bonus!
There was honey available to purchase, and firewood was provided (another bonus)! The road to the farm is quite a bumpy dirt road (+-3km), but the host did warn us about it in advance.
There's one photo which isn't of the rental property, but rather of the main house.
- John (9/5): A beautiful and over 100 year old cottage, on a farm in a beautiful valley, and lovely hosts - Basically everything. We were looking for a farm stay with no chrome & glass, and no mod cons such as a TV, but plenty of space to walk and ride, in beautiful surroundings, with clean air and starry nights, and that's what we got Everything was perfect, but the WiFi had no log-on password, so was in effect a public connection
- Juliette (10/5): Great stay with really nice host. The view in wonderful ! Would recommand it ++ -
- Mauritz (8/5): Nice, peaceful and quiet. - The farm was nice and quiet. The road to the farm requires a high ground clearance vehicle, as stated in the advert.
- Frederik (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jonathan (10/5): Great farmhouse stay - Farmhouse stay was majestic in the middle of nowhere. It was an amazing experience Nothing
- Linda (10/5): Visited Kareedouw for a sport event for our child, found this beautiful cottage (a real hidden gem) 💎 - Breathtaking location, stylishly decorated, clean, friendly hosts There is nothing not to like about this property
- Bence (9/5): Lovely! Great location. We felt special staying there. - The location was excellent. The cottage was absolutely clean and smartly decorated. We took photos and are going to re-do our own braai room from how the cottage was decorated!! The shower! They need to look at the geyser as we had a semi cold shower early on Friday morning which was not great.
- Antoinette (10/5): Exceptional - Peaceful with beautiful views Directions to the stay on Booking.com app are Incorrect and could be dangerous. The owner warned us via DM on the app, but it was not received due to poor reception while travelling.
- Natalie (9/5): Relaxing stay in a picturesque setting - We had a great stay here! We were only here for one night, and unfortunately we didn't get to meet the hosts until we were leaving in the morning, but they were very communicative with instructions for getting to the property and making sure we had everything we needed. The location is beautiful and peaceful and would be a great place to spend multiple days. It was just what we needed to enjoy a relaxing evening after a day of hiking in the nearby areas. We even were able to purchase some of the honey that came from the hosts' bees right on the property! The only challenging thing was accessing the property in our rental car - you have to take a very steep gravel road to get to the home. The hosts did explain this to us and said it would be easiest to access if we had an SUV, but they also assured us that we would still be able to get there in a regular car - which we were, it was just a very slow, bumpy ride. I believe this is mentioned in the booking description, but I think it's important for future guests to keep in mind as they are booking and/or choosing their rental car!
- Jaco (10/5): Great SA Farm life - Great location with amazing views of the mountains. The cottage is cozy and functional with a great braai area in front of the cottage. Kids loved the farm life and walks to be take. Very accommodative host.
- Julia (9/5): Unique Place to stay - Very nice and unique old Farmhouse Only very less Restaurants in the neighbourhood.
- Alibert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alisha (9/5): Michelle and Matt was wonderful hosts, the cottage was clean and beautiful and lovingly decorated. We had everything we - Original house of this farm transformed into a homely and quaint farm cottage with lots if character and loving touches. A delight to stay here. We loved everything but would recommend you have a SUV.
- Anoniem (9/5): Great - You will enter the property by looking for signs old farmhouse. You can open the 2 fences by instructions of the host. Driving slowly along the road with nice views off the hills. Milk and water in the fridge. Reasonable WiFi (for the area good) Looking to wild animals , deers and monkeys from the property in the hills feels very “ living in nature” Very quiet surrounding, it’s a farm so early in the morning the roosters were crowing. We have had breakfast in the garden. Lovely. Well prepared for load shedding. The host it’s very friendly and is willing to get you comfortable and safe. Not negative but you have to know.
- The farmhouse is old, so don’t expect flat floors.
-The location on the map from booking.com was wrong. Therefore the host was solving this by sending clear location.
- Le (10/5): We cannot wait to go back! - Tranquil, picturesque, comfortable.
Very friendly hosts! Super clean and comfortable accommodation!
