Guest Reviews
- Peter (5/5): Not happy - We traveled with my brother in law and his wife they paid £60 less
We booked a double room with en-suite and got a twin with bathroom across the landing. No apologies or reductions not acceptable. Not getting what we booked and the other couple we went with got what they booked and £60 cheaper.
- Catherine (2/5): Would not visit agsin - Breakfast was ok in parts
The property was clean & comfortable Very tired decor & furniture
My ‘view’ was of a derelict caravan & garage
Eccentric host with inappropriate stories
Not near the ferry - it was up a steep long hill
Too expensive for what it is - there are better properties in Bridick
- Chris (9/5): -
- Anne (8/5): - Comfortable beds. Good facilities. Lovely location on a beautiful island.
- anais (10/5): Superbe expérience. Nous sommes ravis. Merci Mitch - Au top. Notre hôte, Mitch, nous a très bien accueilli. L'emplacement est idéal, pour les randos et la proximité avec les services, le port et les arrêts de bus. Le petit déjeuner est copieux et délicieux.
- Jenny (10/5): Perfect place whilst staying for the Ultra Tour of Arran marathons - Warm, comfortable, and great location
- Anne (1/5): Thank goodness we found other accommodation, which was lovely. - We didn't stay at the property. We booked into other accommodation!! There was a very strong smell of dogs in the main building where we were yo have breakfast. I just couldn't face going into the house. I'm 76years and we were given a room in the converted garage. Unfortunately the key was stuck in the door and could not be locked. This made me nervous as it opened into the garden. There was also the possibility that we could be locked in! There was no apology for this or a discount, which would have been an nice gesture. It reminded me of the Fawlty Towers series on TV.
- Karl (8/5): Allandale on Arran at Brodick - Friendly hosts.
Happy that I was able to grab early cereal before rushing for the ferry.
Bed very comfortable. Having to ask for more milk and tea bags.
Room not tidied each day (bed not touched).
Teabags and milk not replenished after use. Water on arrival not replenished after being used.
- Susan (9/5): Great - Everything was good. The breakfast was excellent Everything was good
- Elizabeth (3/5): Very disappointing 80th birthday celebration for my husband - Location was beautiful. The host Mitch was a charming man but really needs to up his game. Breakfast was nothing like it was depicted on the booking website. Only cooked food was dried out black pudding and haggis cooked in its plastic casing and sausages and potato scones. Our room was really dirty. Cobwebs and dust between bed headboards and skirting boards. Thick dirt around edges of bathroom floor and behind toiled. Black scum on bathroom tap where water comes out. Below and behind TV hadn’t been dusted in ages.
- Cathy (9/5): Very nice, lovely view from room window, comfortable. - Comfy and only about 10 m walk from town centre. Hosts very kind. Traffic sometimes a bit noisy.
- Dame Susan (9/5): -
- Jack (10/5): -
- Len (9/5): - Breakfast was wonderful, the accommodations were lovely and the host Mitch was warm and friendly and welcoming
- Louise (9/5): -
- Jamie (1/5): Would not even try again due to communication - Not a lot Promised refund, and then all messages to myself and booking.com totally ignored! Not happy, very poor service
- Stewart (8/5): Informal, friendly and very pleasant. - Location, and staff engagement were great. The owners & staff/family were very engaging and gave the experience an informal friendly feel. Room 2 - my friend’s room was lovely. Our room 6 in the annexe was next to room 5 which had some noisy plumbing issues. Nothing during the night so no issues.
- Cheryl (10/5): Welcoming and homely its always about the people who run it and they were fabulous - Allandale House had a lovely homey feel. However our hosts, Mark and Jenny were just fabulous and certainly went the extra mile to make our stay very special.
I thought this was a continental breakfast - it was fabulous with everything you could possibly wish for. Best scrambled eggs ever!! Spoilt for choice. We really didn’t like leaving. The bathroom was on landing but ours alone so that wasn’t a problem. The bedroom wasn’t large for 2 adults with too much luggage, but we managed fine!
- john (7/5): -
- Stuart (8/5): Nice people eager to please and room - Nice house, comfy bed and nice breakfast Feels quite high on the price range for a B&B But probably in line with others on Arran
- Anne (7/5): Good location - Excellent breakfast
- Jimmy (9/5): -
- SAByrd (9/5): - Location great, spacious room and especially liked the fridge and microwave. Plates and cutlery even provided, as well as complimentary coffee and tea and a kettle. Breakfast was continental but well supplied and fresh. It stormed during our visit and window could not be completely latched, with air still coming in and whistling. Also one of our rooms did not have a working outside lock.
- Dorothy (8/5): Mitch was friendly and helpful to his guests. - Nice location. Very well looked after gardens and lovely view. Could be laid out better.
- Jacqueline (7/5): Good - Very comfy bed and great , huge breakfast options. Brilliant location especially if you don't have a car. Decoration could do with a freshen up and our room was a bit small but it was high season and full.
- Tessa (9/5): Superb - We had a comfortable stay. Mitch was very friendly and accommodating with great suggestions on what to do. The breakfast was incredible! Location perfect with an easy walk from the town and ferry. Would highly recommend, exactly as photos show.
- Stephen (9/5): Nice owner, nice location, peaceful and private. - Welcoming and remote while still being in walking distance from the ferry terminal Nothing to note
- Alias (8/5): Very good -
- Elizabeth (4/5): Sadly, wouldn’t return and would not recommend to friends. - The host, Mitch, was friendly and helpful if somewhat disorganised.
Enjoyed the various quirky items displayed in the guest lounge.
Lovely views of the attractive grounds and scenery beyond. Room 5 in annexe in need of deep clean and refurbishment.
Breakfast disappointing, although coffee was delicious.
Entrance to both main building and annexe unattractive, doors very grubby.
- O'donnell (9/5): Lovely BnB situated on a quiet scenic street. - Lovely BnB situated on a quiet scenic street. It felt very safe and cozy. Mitch was a wonderful host, very friendly and attentive when needed. We enjoyed our stay!
- Pamela (9/5): Superb -
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- Coral (6/5): Rather disappointing - particularly for family, who had a VERY small room and tiny bathroom - The breakfast was a very odd mixture of food. Barely any fruit
The location was perfect Breakfast.
Horrible ‘duvet’
- Katarina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Geoffrey (8/5): We had a great stay with a welcoming host and were looked after with consideration. - Our host was friendly and welcoming. The breakfast spread was varied with a good choice of different foods. The property was in a pleasant setting with well kept gardens. The hotel is a bit of a long trudge from town up a hill but it’s all over after a few minutes.
- Gordon (7/5): Good - Location was good. Host was engaging. Room smelled a little damp / fusty.
- Iain (3/5): Disappointing. All concerns were said to the Owner. We hope to receive the promised refund email. - The Owner was able to respond positively to our complaint. He promised immediate return of our payment (£396) We were promised an email advising the return of or payment but that has not arrived as yet (7 days)
- Buddhika (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marcus (8/5): Excellent position to explore the Isle of Arran. - Mitch was an entertaining host. Breakfast was very satisfying. Well positioned to walk into Brodick for meals.
- Kim (10/5): Pleasant ,comfortable and convenient place to stay near Brodick - Able to walk to property from ferry port and also a bus stop outside. Very quiet location but close to Brodick centre. Some countryside around. The host Mitch was warm and welcoming. Breakfast staff were great. Self service breakfast good. Enough choice. Room small but very clean and comfortable. Helpful staff. Informal. Nothing to dislike
- Sharma (6/5): Not a great value for money! But a perfect location and a good host! - Fantastic location It was too small!
- Mark (7/5): Good -
- Gary (9/5): Convenient for walking into Brodick or as a general base for Arran and a wonderful host. - Mitch the host was fantastic. Great conversation local knowledge and did a wonderful breakfast. The hotel was a 5 minute walk into Brodick and a 2 minute drive from the ferry dock. You could come as go as you pleased. Lovely gardens and perfectly quiet until the birds started to sing. They even got me Gluten free bread for breakfast. Thank you Hard to say, but if you are looking for a great base to explore Arran this is great place. There are more luxurious hotel on Arran and in Brodick but wow will you pay for them.
- Anita (7/5): Good -
- Johnny (10/5): had great time and great weather and food - nice house nice owner breakfast was great good nearby walks hill from the pub but you could get a bus stops outside hotel for you
- Margaret (7/5): Good - Location was very good. Friendly owner providing an excellent breakfast.
- Neil (8/5): Arran is fantastic & Mitch was excellent. - Mostly everything although the room was a bit small but we knew that before we booked it,so not a problem!👌 Not much!👌

- Larry (8/5): Very good -
- Manuel (8/5): Very good - Great location and breakfast. Mitch is a very attentive and helpful host.
- Liz (10/5): We really enjoyed our stay at Allandale House:) - Breakfast was great!
- Stephanie (7/5): Good accommodation as a base for traveling around Arran - It was in a good location and close to the ferry terminal. Breakfast was good and had a few options. I liked that there was a microwave available in the room. No mobile service and the WiFi was intermittent in the garden cottage. The heating came on late in the morning which meant we had to get up to put on the portable heater to warm up the room. Not a lot of parking spaces as there were two vehicles parked there permanently.
- Richard (9/5): Superb -
- Chinnery (5/5): Passable -
- Mark (7/5): Appreciative and nice to be back in Arran. - Mitch was very nice and chatty, dog friendly, great central Location to ferry terminal, hot water and bath was lovely. The breakfast options were not the healthiest and for £500+ for 2 nights for 4 people I thought it was a bit overpriced tbh.
- Claire (9/5): Superb - Had a lovely stay, not a long walk from the harbour and bus service goes past the front door. Ferry was cancelled (as it so frequently has been) and I was offered to stay another night in a different room until the ferries were back up, which was very kind.
Had GF toast for breakfast, and altered some bits and bobs so I could eat them as a coeliac.
Room was very cosy noticed some dirty spots in the bathroom
- Ryan (8/5): Very good -
- Simon (9/5): Arran lads weekend. - The proprietor and staff were very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was excellent and the place was very clean. I would book again in a heartbeat! Only one thing, I couldn't get the TV to work, but that was the only thing. To be honest I didn't bring it up as I wasn't that bothered as we were too active to miss it.
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Peter (3/5): Very disappointed. - Location only. Poor state of repair and unsafe.
- Emma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ava (9/5): Superb -
- Gary (10/5): This is a great base for touring all the island very friendly breakfast was perfect to set you up for the day - It was handy to the town easy to get to
It was clean and very dog friendly Nothing
- John (5/5): Passable - The location was good. Compared with other stops on our trip this was the most expensive per night but it felt like a hostel.
- Harriet (10/5): Exceptional -
- Drew (9/5): Superb -
- Craig (9/5): Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Mitch the host is very friendly and likes a good craic. - Lovely friendly host.

- Marion (8/5): Excellent location, staff very welcoming and a wonderful breakfast. - Very convenient location. Staff were lovely and welcoming. Excellent breakfast. A bit of a mixup on arrival as to what room I had booked and which room we were given but it worked out well in the end.
- Kerstin (8/5): Very good -
- Jennifer (8/5): Homely + comfortable! - Location great + friendliness of staff. B fast was lovely, good choice. Rooms had all u needed. Lovely garden to sit in.value for money.
- Judith (8/5): Ideal location - Welcoming and helpful staff. Ideal location. Easy parking. GF diet accommodated. Bedroom / bathroom were very clean. Would book an ensuite room next time.
- Gillian (4/5): Almost adequate - Excellent quiet location just a few minutes walk( uphill ) from ferry terminal.Nice gardens and pleasant lounge.Just be sure to book the right size of room as a “small” room is exactly that and the “shower booster “ has a mind of its own.Good choice of cooked items for breakfast, although having to record your choices and time before 6 pm the previous night may seem a bit regimental nowadays. All in all, a rather charming reminder of how things used to be. See above
- Ellen (9/5): Lovely stay! Beautiful location, friendly hosts, lovely food. -
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Grant (7/5): Good -
- Cole (7/5): Very nice overall but please consider replacing or padding the mattresses. - Great breakfast and location. Hard mattress, needs padding!

- Deborah (7/5): Good - Breakfast was excellent!
- Balodis (6/5): Enjoyed our stay at the property. - Great location, lovely views and very tasty breakfast. Friendly people. Good value for money. As stayed in the annex we found it difficult to enter main house with key. Entrance lobby could do with spruce up - make more welcoming.
- Sharlene (8/5): Very good -
- Katharine (10/5): Exceptional - Mitch was great fun!
- Gill (6/5): Pleasant - Location to the ferry was great. Breakfast was fine. Had made arrangements for us to have the 3 bed room but this was not the case on our arrival, another bed was arranged but it must be said the room with 3 beds does look a lot roomier on line.
The whole accommodation appeared tired and in need of a major upgrade
- Elaine (9/5): Would definitely return - The location was excellent, owner and the staff v friendly, well kept grounds. Great breakfast Decor a bit dated, could be doing with a makeover
- Stephen (7/5): Good -
- Tony (9/5): Superb - All great!
- Greg (8/5): Very good -
- Alexander (10/5): Exceptional - Good location, spacious room with fridge and microwave and a bathtub, very good breakfast.
