Guest Reviews
- Ella (2/5): - I am a travel blogger and travel a lot, staying in many different hotels, so I clearly understand the balance between price, quality, and service.
When booking via Booking, it was clearly stated that payment should be made at the property. However, about 30 minutes later, I received a message asking me to urgently pay via an external link. I never follow such links — for safety reasons, I only pay directly through Booking or at the hotel.
It also turned out that the property has no road access. You have to walk up approximately 200 meters of stairs to reach it. I had a very large and heavy suitcase, and the staff informed me that they do not carry luggage, even though the room was already confirmed and booked.
I arrived around 10:00 PM. The room was extremely cold, with no heater. At 11:00 PM, the electricity was completely cut off — no lights, no hot water, no ability to charge my phone. In the morning, the situation was the same. I had to leave without a shower and with a dead phone.
This level of service is completely unacceptable. Very disappointing experience.
- Pierce (10/5): Great stay - Great stay. Very comfortable. Nice and quiet with amazing view and lovely host. There is a hill, but the whole town is built on the side of a mountain so it comes with the territory!
- rosan (8/5): Tight - Wow Tea
- Sumit (7/5): - Everything I liked , like bathroom balcony room bathroom cleaning view point sab perfect tha Room and staff both are good, I face some issue like they have no lift we are going by steps arround 5-6 flour and room was very cold after using blanket like kahi se aur pass ho rhi thi jisse bht jada thand lag rhi thi and room heater charges jada tha..
- Upendra (10/5): it was a great stay overall. - we liked the view from the balcony. and the hospitality. i liked my stay nothing to dislike

- Ghosh R (9/5): - The location was nice. The room was clean with a decent balcony. Spacious bathroom. The ambiance was calm. Beautiful view of the tea-garden from the balcony. It was an overall good experience, with minimalist aesthetic and 'off-season' silences.

- korobi (10/5): - Balcony view is just wow No
- Arindam (7/5): Nice place for Relaxation - The room is good, the views from the balcony are good.Room service was decent. Behaviour of members is good.
Due to the distance from the Mall it is a very good place for relaxation. Very poor communication, didn't get a shared cab to reach the Mall, cab fare is also very high. Too many staircases to reach the homestay, not suitable for kids and old people.
There is no complimentary breakfast and they serve only one water bottle at the time of check in.
Food costs too high if you want to avail.

- Bharat (10/5): - Very very good Darjeeling view from balcony
- Arpit Kumar (7/5): The property is beautiful and calm, but with better basic facilities, it could truly live up to its potential. - The Homestay is beautiful with a nice view of the tea valley and spacious enough. Things to consider before booking this homestay:
1. There is no heater or heating blanket provided by default. Considering how cold it gets at night, this is something they really should include—especially since they charge ₹400 per day if you request a heater separately.
2. The property is quite offbeat and far from the mall road, so plan your commute accordingly.
3. You’ll need to climb a lot of stairs to reach the homestay, which can be exhausting. However, I’d say it’s worth it—the place is peaceful, quiet, and surrounded by beautiful views. Whether this is a pro or con depends on your preference.

- TOMAS (6/5): - View from the balcony Property is a bit remote, there is no close places to eat. You must be physically strong as there is no access by car. For 3 night stay for 2 pers. we got only 2 bad smelling towels with stains (when humidity was >90%) so you can imagine.. and 2 bottles of water.. and 1 pc of toilet paper...No toiletries! Frankly, all you get is a roof over your head. There weren't even a couple of tea bags left in the tea land of Darjeeling. We visit Darjeeling at the time of Darsain festival so everyone was busy celebrating and that is understandible but in this case, more things should be prepared in advance for the convenience of guests. We asked to borrow an umbrella due to the heavy rain, but the staff didn't even respond to the message, in general they were difficult to reach. But honestly you can't celebrate and do business at the same time without preparation. In short, we felt like an obstacle, not a guest.
- Ayush (10/5): - Stay was very amazing. Room was exactly as it was shown in the pictures. Balcony view was fantastic.
The host and the staff was very helpful and polite. Had a really amazing time. I had to climb a lot of stairs to reach the stay as it’s located higher up, which was bit tiring but once I reached , the experience was definitely worth it.
- Saravana Amuthu (10/5): - The view was great & staff was very friendly. The room was spacious The only downside is the property is located 2-3 floors up from the ground level with no lift. You will need to climb the stairs
- Aich (9/5): Fun. Could be better. - The location and the view Lack of room service and some basic amenities
- Sabhareesh (9/5): Warm Hosts, Spacious Stay — An amazing homestay that's near main area - The hosts were sweet enough to guide us through out the stay with multiple calls - to reach the location, get a taxi, breakfast/dinner, parking space. Also kind gesture of delivering food to the room, instead of dining area. They were helpful to carry our luggage up the stairs.
PS: Not to complaint on the property or the hosts
Only downside of this stay was, there's no direct road access.
You'll have to climb up 3-4 floors of stairs from main road.
- Lily (7/5): Good - Clean and nice size rooms, the balcony is lovely and there is a great view when the weather clears. Be prepared to walk up lots of steps!
- Vikas (7/5): Overall very good but not excellent - Location, room view, staff, homefood and pet kitten were very good 1) room cost was quite higher Rs 4k per night which came down to Rs 2300 on booking.com immediately after our exit
2) bedsheet, towels were not change next day ,only on reminding they do
3) rice quantity in their rice thali was not adequate for one person. On asking for more they charge extra which is not acceptable
4) at least tea cofee sugar pouches to be provided in room (they provide only hot water kettle)
- Ruta (10/5): Nice place for a peaceful stay - Very clean, spacious room and bathroom, it has a big balcony with a beautiful view. Everything is available within walking distance. Excellent service N/a

UPS of the property was its huge balcony & the location which was perfect. I still remember that on our special request my host arranged Maggie for me late night. Everything was Perfect. Room was very spacious. All basic amenities were there. Best place in Darjeeling to stay.
- Chinmay (10/5): Home away from home 🏡 - The homestay owner is very helpful by nature this is a value for money deal, The food they serve is amazing 🤩 You only have to climb some steps to reach homestay , but Buttler service is available which is very helpful to carry luggage

- Sourav (10/5): Overall, Asraya Homestay is a great choice for solo travelers, couples, and anyone looking for a peaceful and homely sta - recently stayed at Asraya Homestay in Darjeeling from 9th to 12th February, and overall, it was a pleasant experience. If you're looking for a quiet, cozy, and budget-friendly stay in Darjeeling, this place is worth considering. Here’s my detailed review:
Location & Accessibility (4/5)
Asraya Homestay is located in a peaceful area, away from the usual hustle and bustle of Darjeeling town. While it may not be right at the heart of the town, it offers a tranquil retreat for those who prefer a quieter environment. If you're someone who enjoys exploring on foot like me, it’s a decent walk to reach the main spots like Chowrasta and Mall Road.
For those who prefer easy access to shops and cafes, it might feel a bit far, but for travelers looking for peace and a homely atmosphere, it’s a great place to stay.
Room & Cleanliness (5/5)
The rooms at Asraya Homestay are clean, spacious, and well-maintained. The wooden interiors add a cozy vibe, making it perfect for a relaxed stay. The bedding was comfortable, and the room was warm enough even in the cold weather.
The attached bathroom was clean with running hot water, which is a must in Darjeeling. The only small drawback was that an extra blanket would have been nice, though I’m sure the hosts would provide one if requested.
Food & Dining (4.5/5)
One of the highlights of the stay was the vegetarian food available on order. The meals were freshly prepared, homely, and absolutely delicious. Even though I had planned most of my meals in town, I did get to try their food, and I was impressed by the quality and taste.
If you’re someone who prefers simple, clean, and tasty vegetarian food, this is a great option. The hosts take special care in preparing meals, which adds to the overall experience.
Hospitality & Service (5/5)
The hosts were friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help. Their polite and attentive service made the stay even more comfortable. A bit far from central town (not ideal if you want to stay near Mall Road)
- Ayan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Suprativ (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nidhi (10/5): Divine - Food, vibes, space, aesthetics, host n staff
Balcony view is a cherry on the cake
Asraya isn’t just a stay it’s basically an emotion. You feel it almost in every corner of the place. It’s an emotion which you would wanna revisit again and again. Truly a home away from home Nothing to dislike
- Dr.kironjyoti (8/5): Very Good - Exceptional View from the room.... value for money Location
- Awadh (10/5): Calm, Out of Buzz and cozy Place - The place, The view, The balcony, it's just amazing, They helped me with free Bike parking. The Breakfast provided to us was fabulous. The room was clean and maintained. Loved it.
The host despite not being at the property was keeping in touch to know if we need anything.
- Dutraj (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thoungamba (10/5): Perfect, clean and affordable. - The place was so clean. The location is perfect. We could get a lot of interesting and beautiful views from the rooms. It would be great if they provided a bucket in the bathroom.
- Das (5/5): Passable - the room and the view were the only thing that was good there is no vehicle that reaches the door step of the homestay so difficult with luggage. also worst part, the homestay owner did not even mention that u need to reach the homestay with luggage by walking a steep narrow road. secondly, its a veg place again uninformed by the owner. thirdly, the host failed to even arrange for a cab. so arrange ur own cab, carry ur own luggage and check out. everything too unprofessional to be a homestay.
- Prateep (10/5): Had a very lovely time. - The homestay is beautiful, comfortable, and very clean. The owner and the staffs were very kind and helpful. One can watch very beautiful sunset from the balcony. Overall we had a very nice quality time. Everything were nice. Would highly recommend the homestay.

- Kesarwani (6/5): Overall a good stay, nature of Vicky Dada is good. He is a supporting person. - 1- Location is fine, apx 1 km walk from Mall road.
2- The view was awesome 1- Balcony is there for view but Not a single chair to enjoy that view
2- No Tv
3- No Water boiler, every time you have to ask for warm water, though staff was supportive
4- Only single mirror, that too is in the washroom
- Sneha (10/5): Exceptional - The room is spacious and comes with an impeccably clean washroom, spacious balcony facing the valley .
Its location is ideal, just a short walking distance from Mall Road.
The hosts are incredibly kind and gracious, and their breakfast is an absolute delight, it has a local touch .
We stayed during Diwali and Vicky and family invited us to join their celebrations, which turned our stay into an unforgettable experience.
- Amar (10/5): A Hidden Gem – Amazing Stay! - I was initially skeptical about this property, but it turned out to be an absolute gem! From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed by the owner, Vicky, who is incredibly helpful and engaging. He made sure everything was perfect throughout my stay and was always available to assist with anything I needed. His family is just as lovely, always welcoming and kind.
The property itself is beautiful, well-maintained, and offers a peaceful retreat. It’s situated in a hilly area, so be prepared for a short climb up some stairs to reach the property, but the walk is worth it! It’s only a short walk from Mall Road, making it convenient to explore the area while still offering a quiet and relaxing atmosphere.
I highly recommend this homestay for anyone looking for a genuine, warm experience with great hospitality. Thank you, Vicky and family, for making my stay so memorable!
- Sanjit (9/5): Superb -
- Max (9/5): Superb - the view is incredible, everything is clean, spacious and well maintained
the location is outside of the overcrowded city center
the bed was super comfortable and the sheets were 100% white without any stains difficult to reach (only by walk or scooter)
no chairs on the balcony
- Sujay (10/5): Excellent stay away from crowd - Excellent stay away from the crowded city center. Loved the rooms, very spacious and clean along with amazing balcony views.
- V (6/5): Pleasant -
- Amir (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dwaipayan (10/5): Pretty much a perfect experience - Stayed at Asraya Homestay for 3 nights, and it was an unforgettable experience. The homestay offers some of the most beautiful mountain views you could ask for. Although my 3 rooms didn’t have a direct view of Kanchenjunga, the scenery was still breathtaking, and all the pictures you see online are absolutely true – it’s just as stunning in real life. The location is ideal, only a 15-minute walk from Chauk Bazaar, making it convenient yet peaceful.
The hospitality here is top-notch. Vicky, the host, is one of the warmest, most helpful people I’ve met. He went out of his way to assist whenever there were any issues with drivers, which made my stay stress-free and enjoyable. A tip: definitely speak with him before booking any transport or packages – his knowledge and connections are invaluable!
The cleanliness and upkeep of Asraya Homestay are impeccable, and the staff are friendly and attentive. And don’t miss trying the tea – Vicky serves the best tea I had in Darjeeling, perfect for enjoying with the beautiful views.
Overall, Asraya Homestay is a gem in Darjeeling. Its new so there are less reviews to go by but I’m sure they will become one of the bests in no time. If you’re looking for a place with great views, exceptional hospitality, and all the comforts you’d need, this is it. I’ll definitely be back! Nothing to not like.
- Mandal (10/5): Exceptional -
- Avishek (10/5): A must visit homestay - the room with the balcony gives a panaromic view of entire darjeeling. The owner is a very nice person, asked me about anything needed during our stay.. the staffs are very helpful.. location is 10/10..Will definitely stay more in coming months for sure ❤ Nothing to dislike as it is a newly made homestay. They tried their best to fulfil those things we needed during our stay. But ya small things should be added, like television, meal option (as they are serving only the breakfast) & definitely slippers. Hope to see this soon.. and God bless and grow more✌✌
- Vicky (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vicky (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chiara (10/5): Exceptional - During our 5-day-stay in Darjeeling, my wife and I were looking for a budget-friendly accomodation that offers everything we need.
With Asraya Homestay, we got much more than that.
The owner is extremely polite, attentive and caring, while also being very professional and respectful of the guests wishes.
The homestay is very new, and accordingly the rooms are freshly renovated, clean and modern.
We considered the bathroom with its modern, fresh look and state-of-the-art appliances and the balcony with its amazing view the highlights of the room - and you get all that without putting a big dent in your wallet.
All in all, we were very pleased with the room. The only thing that we considered a smal downside was that the temperature in the room was a bit low - a heater is offered for a small daily fee.
The hospitality of the host family is unparalalled- they are welcoming in a very warm way while also being open to deeper topics and discussions.
What was most amazing to us is that if we needed anything at all, the host, Vicky, was more than happy to help us out with tips or by referring us to the right people. His connections to all kinds of different people as well as his in-depth local knowledge about Darjeeling really shines through here.
Their homecooked, organic food is very tasty and was pleasing to our western stomachs due to not being spicy, which is rare to find in India.
+A small kitten came to visit every morning :)
Also, a big thank you to Sahil and Pratik, who are super humble, friendly and always ready to help.
If we ever come to Darjeeling again, we will without a doubt choose Asraya homestays again.
