- Lindsey (8/5): - Wonderful patio Near highway and rather noisy
- Ellenor (7/5): -
- Callie (6/5): - Location, off-the-grid Cramped, outdated, needed some upkeep.
- Alex (7/5): Off grid, tiny home. Lovely outdoor sounds at night and big outdoor area. - Nice location, easy to find, outdoor setup was great. There was no warning it was solar before arrival, bedroom with double bed was extremely tight,
- Taegan (10/5): The outside bath was really stand out - so enjoyed the peace and tranquility after a long journey! - The local eggs were delicious and so appreciated!
- Rachel (7/5): - Close to the caves. Would be good in fine weather when the doors are open and decking extends the living space. Outdoor bath a nice touch. Living space was compact for x3 guests when weather was poor. Really tricky to cook in the space indoors. The road noise is not so tranquil.
- Daniel (7/5): - Unique. View. Outdoor area. Close to road, road noise. Towels were old.
- Katherine (9/5): - Locations was beautiful and the host was very responsive to questions. Also we loved the eggs left in the kitchen for us.
- Winkie (8/5): Different style of accommodation and experience -
- Te nahu (10/5): The place it self is lovely thanku - It was open so we didn't need the keys
- Hafsa (6/5): Amazing! - It was very close to the glow worm cave and good value There were bugs cause it was in the wild
- Miguel (7/5): -
- Sharlene (4/5): Not very relaxing - The deck Had to climb over the bed to get to the other side
Just off the highway was not a retreat, it was battery operated
Shower was very small
Guest from the other unit come on to out unit for a walk around, owner came to to drop off toilet paper once he cleaned the other unit, was nice he dropped it off but I booked because it was meant to be a retreat and just wanted to relax, but it was hard with the noise of the highway
- Daniele (5/5): - La comida para el desayuno, fue un detalle muy bonito y apreciado Por supuesto no es un alojamiento como tal, más bien una caravana bien equipada...la oferta no está a la altura del precio.

- Ella (5/5): Overall fine - The view was really nice (beautiful sunset), check-in was very easy, the owners were lovely with good communication and all the appliances worked. Unfortunately I was disappointed with this stay. I feel that the photos and description did not accurately describe the home we were staying in- in retrospect looking at the photos most of them are of the outside (rather than the inside) of the home. It was smaller than I expected (in particular the kitchen was extremely small) and less well-appointed than it appeared. The floor of the shower initially appeared dirty but then I realised it was actually patched up with glue and felt flimsy beneath your feet- in my opinion this needs replacing. My main issue was that there was a stale smell throughout the home so I had to keep the doors open while we were there for some ventilation.
- Henry (8/5): One night near waitomo - Just 15 minutes away from R- caves. Self contained unit, very quiet. Complementary bread milk eggs very nice touch. Great/ simple self check-in instructions. Bedroom just barely larger than the bed- need to climb over to get out. We weren’t sure how to use the propane.
- Sarah (8/5): - It was compact and had what we needed for a one night stay. Communication with hosts was clear, quick and kind. Very helpful. Fruit, eggs and bread was a nice touch I think the photos show something much more luxurious. The cabin is very near the main road and Trainline so not as quiet as you might hope
- HUIBIN (7/5): - 房东给我们准备了丰盛的早餐材料,房间里面的设备也非常齐全。室外很宽敞,晚上还可以看星星。 房间面积稍微窄一点,我们三个人都转不开身。
- Angel (10/5): -
- Hung-Hsin (9/5): Beautiful scenery with sunrise, sunset, cows around, and a relaxing outdoor bathtub overlooking green fields. Very comfo - We had a wonderful stay here with our family.
The scenery is absolutely beautiful — we could enjoy both sunrise and sunset, and there were cows grazing around the property, which made the experience feel very peaceful and close to nature.
There is also an outdoor bathtub where you can relax while enjoying the wide green landscape. The whole environment is very comfortable and calming, perfect for unwinding.
We truly enjoyed our one-night stay here, and it was very comfortable and memorable.
The location is also very convenient, only less than 10 minutes’ drive to the glow worm caves.
Highly recommended for anyone who loves nature and a quiet, relaxing environment. If I had to mention one small drawback, it would be that there is no hair dryer in the bathroom, which was a bit inconvenient. However, this did not affect our overall experience.

- Duncan (7/5): -
- Kris (10/5): It was wonderful! Would highly recommend. - I like the location- quiet, private, relaxing farm views.
The host is generous with providing milk, eggs, bread and sodas.
Very good communication from the host. The kitchen is a wee bit small, but it’s all good as we’ve packed some home-made foods, so did not really need to cook.
- Andrea (7/5): - Badewanne Straßenlärm
- Beate (9/5): -
- Nicola (10/5): - Close to Waitomo caves. Beautiful place with everything we needed. Lovely views. Outdoor bath was a nice addition.
- Diane (6/5): - Lucas left eggs bread and milk. And brought fresh plums Both sets of beds need replacing.
- Raeleen (4/5): One nights accommodation was sufficient - Location
Appreciated the bread, milk and drinks- plus the eggs. Did not realise that it was battery powered- the shower was in poor condition, no smoke alarms were spotted, tv was tricky to operate and run smoothly, was not sure about recycling so left bottles in the bin with rubbish- perhaps I did not read a whole lot of information about the tiny house - very tight .
- Wang (5/5): -
- Nicola (7/5): Cute container off grid accommodation with sheep - Farm location, sheep around the unit, great outdoor deck and bath, close to caves and town not too far by car for food Too cold to use outdoor areas and indoor quite small, beds not very comfortable, main road convenient but detracts a bit from the view and vibe
- Tianyu (6/5): Nice view but loud, hot/cold, dirty - Good view of hills. Nice outdoor tub. It gets too hot in the afternoon and too cold in the early morning.
It gets very very loud because it is so close to highway. I needed to wear earplugs.
The hygiene is not so great. The bed I stayed in had pillow cases smelling oily and very gross.
- Fiona (8/5): Enjoyable visit, would be ideal for a couple - Easy to find and lovely outdoor area. The shower was average and the kitchen area was very cramped.
- Hobson (10/5): A great location for our purpose. - Hi Lucas,
The stay really suited us – close to the caves and a lovely place to sit back and enjoy a beer or wine while looking out over the rolling hills and farmland as the sun set after a long day. It also had a genuinely secure feel, which we really appreciated.
Thanks again for putting us at ease for the night.
All the best,
Laine The odd car lights from passing traffic.

- Natalie (10/5): - Perfect location for visiting the Waitomo Caves. Peaceful rural setting, cute property, beautiful views, and bread and eggs in the fridge for breakfast!
- Natalie (8/5): Beautiful views in small packages - The views from the house were stunning, my boys loved running around and exploring the place and finding the chickens. The complimentary goodies in the fridge were also a nice treat. The only thing we found was the size of the place was very cramped for us as a family of four but for one night it was fine.
- Ray-Anne (8/5): - Gorgeous view. Loved the outside bath. The eggs, bread milk and drinks were a delightful surprise. Cute and comfy
- Jennifer (10/5): - Convenient to glowworm caves and town. It is a tiny space but clean and comfortable.
- Anna (8/5): -
- Frans Douma (10/5): -
- Szilvia (9/5): - The complimentary milk, bread and eggs.
The view is amazing.
- Lawrence (9/5): -
- Michael (6/5): - View, lots of hot water, breakdast The top bunk was very wobbly and very squeaky. Quite uncomfortable. There was no linen for the sofa bed which folded up on the occupant.
- Ornella (10/5): Perfect getaway - Our stay at Waitomo Retreat was absolutely perfect. The place itself was beautiful, and the views were truly amazing. We stayed in a small cabin with two bedrooms, and it had everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing getaway.
The host and his parents were incredibly accommodating and made sure every part of our stay was just right. Their warm hospitality really made the experience special.
We couldn’t have asked for a better stay — highly recommended! Everything was just perfect
- Vicci (10/5): - I loved this retreat! The view was sensational and the outdoor bath was a highlight.
- Carla (9/5): An unexpectedly delightful experience! Thanks - Love location, the eggs yum, thank you!! Unexpected and delightful. We were three adults travelling together two of us slept in the bunk beds. The mattress weren’t really comfortable.
- Sonntag (8/5): -
- kristy (10/5): - Retreat is the perfect word for this place. It was so peaceful. Facilities were great, room was nice and clean and the view was FANTASTIC.
- Anna (7/5): - Nice view, outdoor bath, complimentary soft drinks, milk, bread and eggs.
Very close to Waitomo caves, only 15 min drive. The host was very nice and helpful. The place was a little smaller than expected, coffee cups were stained and need a good clean. Shower dispensers either need to be cleaned or replaced.
- Cindy (9/5): Loved the experience. - I really loved the location. Right on the farm. The baby lamb and mama were entertaining. Waking up and seeing the baby lamb on our deck was a treat. The bed
- Stephanie (10/5): Wake up to amazing views and enjoy your private slice of heaven! - We had bread, milk and fresh eggs from the farm in the refrigerator when we arrived! We arrived late and it was already dark out so it was a little tricky finding our way around but this was not a reflection on the accommodation. We just wish we had more time to enjoy it.
- Emily (8/5): -
- Luca (10/5): - Pleasant stay
- Joshua (10/5): Awesome place would definitely be rebooking if we are coming back to the area and would recommend others - Beautiful place with great view and two nice sheep Water pressure in the showers could be better.
- Teresa (10/5): - A very cute and cozy spot, with animals, outdoor bath, easy check in and out! Closw to the cave! Fresh eggs and milk are provided :) Lucas was super responsive and helpful:)
- Volker (8/5): -
- Phoebe (8/5): -
- Jocelyn (8/5): Great location for our stay after visiting the caves and excellent communication with owners. - Location was great and the breakfast was a lovely extra. Communication was excellent with the owners. Perfect for an overnight stay after visiting the caves.
- Eva (8/5): -
- Toni (10/5): Lovely place to stay, great host! - Beautiful place! The bathtub is amazing and fits two ;) Bathtub
- Karen (10/5): -
- Coral (10/5): -
- Celine (9/5): Very convenient location for visiting the Waitomo caves. Plenty of parking space for our rental car. Lovely views. - Great location if you’re planning to visit the Waitomo Glowworm caves. The view in the morning was also beautiful.
- Donna (8/5): -
- Amanda (5/5): Passable - The towels smelt as if stored for a long time and not fresh
Beds are the most important and bunk needs the springs removed if using board under neath as it makes it noisey. Double bed needs replacing
- Giulio (4/5): More of a camping experience inside a container - Cold and very noisy, very close to the highway so you could hear every vehicle passing. Also very cold, only a small heater that was not enough! It is a container. No hot tub, just a standard tub outside. It was clean
- Cherilynn (9/5): Superb -
- Elaine (10/5): Perfect eco stay away from hustle and bustle! - Everything. It's a perfect set up and we loved our stay! The little breakfast extras made a huge difference and my mum and I loved the outdoor bath! It was a great nights stay! Thank you Nothing. I'd recommend staying here to anyone!
- Mayur (7/5): Good - Location Power supply
- Bennie (10/5): Lovely setting, fun to experience a tiny home. Helpful posters guiding one around the facilities - Lovely spacious farm Tricky to walk around the bed
- Prerana (5/5): Passable -
- Timothy (10/5): Great place to stay - novel concept buildings made of shipping containers - well executed. - The host left some breakfast food in addition to tea and coffee which was nice. Great that it was green and off the grid
- Kelsey (8/5): Lovely place, would go back - was a lovely touch to have a few things in the fridge the handle on the bathtub was broken, though still worked fine.
- Wenpei (9/5): Superb -
- Catherine (9/5): Quite a relaxing getaway with family - I like the quietness of the place & it’s cleanliness. Nothing in particular.
- Tomasz (9/5): Superb -
- Ellie (7/5): Bath was a winner and made the $ worthwhile. Traffic was a suprise. - The outside bath. New building. Feeling of remoteness. The traffic noise and view. Constant and heavy. the photos suggested a rural vista, which it was, but the main road cutting through it spoilt the feeling.
Limited cooking facilities in the rain.
- Amanda (8/5): Not worth the money unless the bed and linen could match the photos - Quirky, extras were a lovely touch, I’d bread milk and eggs Uncomfortable old bed, sheets felt old and not crisp and clean, so we didn’t sleep well, noisy as the property is on the main road
- Lisa (10/5): Fantastic Off Grid Stay - Outdoor tub Communication through booking.com email responses was not working. I was happy that the host left a what’s app number at the accommodation in case I needed to be in touch. Once I left, I didn’t have that number in my phone so I couldn’t communicate that I checked out. It isn’t the hosts fault that the booking.com platform did not work. I was able to receive their comments but when I replied, it said the email address was not valid and message couldn’t be delivered. Very frustrating!
- Jene (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing view with complimentary eggs, bread, milk and fizzy...what a lovely surprise 🥰 Not at all. The place has everything we need for😮💨
- 孟甫 (8/5): Overall, it’s a wonderful experience. I like this place - We can have whole house, it’s amazing. The view is also very good. There is even a bathtub outside.
The boater also prepared the food for us. 1. Can’t use hair dryer
2. The bed is too soft for me
- Ben (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lisa (8/5): Very good -
- Nadine (10/5): Great tiny house, off grid experience that we really enjoyed. - This off-grid tiny house is absolutely brilliant. Fantastic view & the out-door bath is such a great idea. Very compact but had everything you need. So close to drive to Waitimo Caves which was our reason for the visit. The noice from the state highway is definitely loud at times so I’d recommend taking some ear plugs.
- Bradley (8/5): We liked our stay, it was better then the normal motel, it was nice and warm great heating. - The fridge was supplied with free range eggs, bread, milk, and cans of coke. We had eggs on toast for breakfast it was delicious.
The location was great, farm land views, and at night we watched the trucks drive past in the distance which were lit up like Christmas trees. The double bed felt squashed in the room, you couldn't walk around it, so if you need the loo you had to climb over the person next to you otherwise the tiny house had everything you would need.
- Glen (6/5): Good location for caves - Good location for caves. Small and noisy - close to main road with Lorrie’s driving past all night
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional - Cute, clean, and very comfortable. Friendly and responsive hosts. Loved the milk, eggs, and bread for breakfast! It was a bit hard to work the heating system.
- Ahuahu (7/5): Good - This was a last minute booking as we were exhausted from traveling from Auckland and needed rest. It fit our needs as an overnight stay.
I don't think you realize how 'tiny' a tiny/small home is until you stay in one.
Inside is very compact which is to be expected for a tiny home and is only really big enough for 2 adults (that's pushing it). The outside is very spacious with lots of seating which will be ideal for summer.
WIFI is very good. Inside is warm with heaters available. Good views as well.
There is lots of cutlery/crockery with 1 big pan and 1 big pot. There's a gas ring fand BBQ for cooking and a small fridge. Traffic can be quite noisy and distracting but didn't really bother us.
I don't believe it's worth the price I paid to stay overnight. It's just too small only really good for 2 adults. Wouldn't recommend for children.
It's a pity the outside didn't match the inside.
Keep in mind it's a TINY home
- Elizabeth (8/5): Great location, lovely hosts - Very clean. Quite compact inside. Wonderful location, great views of night sky, lovely helpful hosts (lived close by), some food provisions left by host for our use. Nearest town/supermarket/takeaway is quite a way away, which we hadn't realised, which meant about a 20km trip to get evening meal. Close to Waikomo Glow Worm caves which was good as we had an early time. Disliked · Due to it being solar powered, there was a power restriction which meant hairdryers could not be used. Also we couldn't figure out how to use gas ring. However, I wouldn't say we disliked this, it's just that we weren't prepared. I'm sure it would suit other people perfectly, especially those environmentally friendly.
- Ryan (8/5): Very good -
- Pete (8/5): Very good -
- Adam (10/5): Convenient, comfortable and the milk and eggs were a lovely surprise - Loved the bath tub! But also generally very relaxing, well equipped, and even off-grid with solar. Thank you for the fresh eggs and milk and cans of soda, really nice touch. Wifi was fast, Netflix was available, stunning sunset views over the property, and it was just super easy to check-in and kick-back. Also it’s located 10 minutes from Te Kuiti, or 10 minutes the other way to Waitomo caves, brilliant. The shortness of my stay.
- Niki (8/5): Was a good stopover on way home - Loved the bath after a day of riding
Thanks for extras for breakfast and drinks Did not realise was so close to main highway was a bit noisy
