Guest Reviews
- Fane (7/5): - The house is fine a little dated but updated kitchen and bathroom. Quiet with native birds and peaceful outlook. The listing doesn't mention anywhere that you have to provide linen and clean. If this had been mentioned we would not have booked. The access is challenging very steep drive made more difficult with trade van's parked at an adjoining property. Finally a very abrupt and reluctant communication with the owner to get access on arrival. We would not use this property again.
- Jess (8/5): Perfect for a family of 4 - Nice and quiet spot more blankets for the beds would be good
- Marrietta (8/5): Beautiful view, warm and good value - Beautiful scenery, great fire and easy location. Comfortable beds and loved the loft bunks. Great value for money. Didn't dislike anything. It was a great place, A first aid kit would have been handy
- Gordon (10/5): - It was a perfect weekend getaway, peaceful everything we needed. Will definitely go there again. It was value for money.
- Annie (6/5): A Fabulous Bush Clad Spot For A Family Holiday - The location amongst the native bush was glorious & the bird life stunning.
The logburner was a real bonus with plenty of dry firewood.
The house had everything needed to cook meals and a great array of cookware, serving dishes, modern appliances, and they easy to operate. We found the property very comfortable with a great location. The house was dirty from the last group that stayed. I had to clean before putting food items away in the fridge & pantry. The dishes weren't clean even though there was a dishwasher, & the floors needed a vacuum. Rubbish/ recycling was not put in the proper bins, & the BBQ hadn’t been cleaned after use. The oven & trays could do with a clean. It was a little smoky & a little smelly from grease build- up.
I managed to talk to Claire, the property manager. She was great & apologized about the last group. As compensation, we didn't have to clean up after our stay. Claire arranged a cleaner to come in. Thank you, Claire.
- Hannah (9/5): Great spot for a relaxing stay, convenient walk to town centre - Pillows were a little uncomfortable
- Rosie (8/5): A cute house with all you need for a family weekend away! - Close to town, 5min walk!
Cute house, warm with everything you need. Would recommend commercial cleaners and linen to ensure standard of cleanliness.
- Megan (10/5): -
- Gemma (8/5): - Loved the location perfect for our 2 adults 2 kids. Tidy and No clean teatowels available. Would be better if Linen included. Or at least towels.
- Stephen (7/5): - The house was difficult to locate up a shared driveway with poor house numbers.
- Kelene (8/5): Good for a family weekend getaway. - Friendly staff, easy check in and out. Felt a bit enclosed
- Deidre (10/5): - It felt like we were in a tree house with the birds
- Lucas (10/5): -
- Emmalee (10/5): - Was super lovely and warm The drive way was super steep! Would've been good if a photo was included incase others aren't confident drivers on hills
- Phillips (9/5): - lovely place, the shower was very good, the beds were comfy, the kitchen is nice and it's just overall quite a nice place, we had a great time! could do with a little more seating around the couch area, as the couch only seats 3 yet there are beds for 6.
- Teresa (10/5): - Great location and very comfortable. Perfect for a family weekend away.
- Rhonda (9/5): Fabulous spot for R&R - Loved the house, it was like your own cabin in the forest. Great space and everything you need for the whanau.
- C (10/5): -
- Casey (9/5): Cozy, quaint and delightful. - Facilities were nice and clean, well equipped kitchen, easy to heat and a cosy/private feel overall! Awesome space to curl up on the couch after a day exploring. Was a tad noisy in high winds at night, but I believe we had some bad weather luck!
- Campbell (8/5): -
- Romina (8/5): - The venue was great...peaceful and quiet Wasn't super clean..
- Thompson (9/5): A wee get away - We loved that it's tucked away in the trees, the beautiful bird song in the morning was just amazing. It was a relaxing wee place to stay Our daughters both received HEAPS of splinters in their feet from the deck so would recommend wearing shoes out on the deck
- Anna (10/5): -
- Fabrizio Antonio (9/5): Beautiful house - Beatutiful house with great views, good location between the town and the conical hill lookout.
House was clean and kitchen was very well equipped. Bedrooms are big, with comfy beds and great views specially from the master bedroom. Was not allowed to make fire as was not "cold enough" (10 °C) so that killed a lot of expectations. Description and messages say you can use it, so it is very misleading and a waste of my time looking for the axe and ash bucket.
- Igor (7/5): Enjoyed it. - Good location, nice beds, great shower pressure, well stocked kitchen, comfortable stay.
- Domm (8/5): - We loved the wooden features inside was very cost. Couldn't see the view. Too many trees and bushes
- Aileen (10/5): A Hanmer delight. - A very comfortable house, in a great location. It had everything a family of four needed.
- Martina (10/5): -
- Steve (10/5): A great place to stay to experience Hanmer Springs. - Great location. Wonderful views. Nothing
- Valez17 (3/5): Your stay will highly depend on who has been before you, be aware - The bed is comfortable and it is a nice place when clean, well furnished with a washing machine oven etc The place smelled badly of weed especially the master bedroom, it was very dirty with hair everywhere. It has not been vacuumed either.
Terrible communication with the owner, they have not replied after I sent a message with the concerns, they didn't send me a tax invoice requested. The owner clearly never checks how the place is left. We left it spotless but it's unfair we received it in poor conditions.
- Tina (8/5): Creaky but clean - Chalet was roomy, clean and had most of what we wanted. Not keen on the drive up to the chalet or the creaking of all the wood
- Cushla (8/5): Hanmer hideaway - Beds were comfy.
Had everything we needed. Light didn't work in bathroom
Lamp needs light bulb
Clock needs batteries
Whoever stayed before us has left behind fire ashes in rubbish bin in kitchen
Filters for smoking were behind duchess in main room (they still are)
The chairs for the kitchen table leave little bits of white fluff everywhere.
This was not vacuumed before our arrival as there was fluff and things on carpet in my room.
Also message came up on screen saying batteries are getting low in TV remote.
Another thing I think should not have happened is someone came on to the property and put a wild food poster on my car while my car was parked on private property.
- Viviane (8/5): Nice place to stay. I would come back with family. - Nice place, very peaceful and comfortable There wasn’t light on the bed upstairs, and I was not confident to use, as I was scared. Not enough pans and lids to use for cooking. It was not spotless cleaning, but overall good.
- Katrina (10/5): A great place to relax with your family! - Awesome property, had everything and more that we needed. Especially loved the access of the washing machine, fireplace and over the fire clothes hanger so we could dry our clothes overnight! Kids highly rated the loft bed and the board games that were available! Look forward to coming back again in the future 😁
- Lisa (8/5): Beautiful home and toasty warm with the fire going! -
- levi (9/5): - Great location and size
Fire place and heatpump was bonus
Comfy beds Broken vacuum cleaner
- Suzanne (8/5): -
- Deb (10/5): - Cozy Comfortable well equipped and good location
- Bre (8/5): -
- Zoe (9/5): - House was cozy and had great character, fantastic location. Close to the village centre while being tucked away and private. Some issues with cleanliness. Handprints on windows, crumbs on kitchen bench ect
- Jason (7/5): - The house needed to be cleaned on arrival and didnt appear to have been cleaned by the people staying before us. We arrived and spent the first 30mins cleaning the house. We could tell what they cooked on the over top - Pasta from the boiled over pasta water and tomato sauce for just an example.
- Kate (9/5): Superb - Lovely cozy place, with modern kitchen and bathroom. Loved the fireplace and the tui.
- Maryse (10/5): The Hanmer hideaway house was a lovely place to stay while on our holiday. The fire was amazing, we would definitely com - The property is a short drive from the Hanmer village. The fire was definitely a highlight for us! The place was clean, and well equipped.
- Anne (10/5): Exceptional - We loved everything about our stay it's a very beautiful and relaxing place to stay. The vacuum cleaner could've worked better.
- Charlotte (8/5): An affordable, comfortable option - A great wee traditional kiwi bach with modernized kitchen and bathroom and lovely log fire. Upon arrival the back door was wide open so the property was very cold. Not sure if this was intentional - to allow for easy access or accidental. As it is the middle of winter, some leaves had been blown in and so some clean up was required by us.
- Heather (7/5): Very nice house - mostly comfortable - Attractive property. Nicely decorated. Nice outdoors area. We visited in winter - June. There weren’t enough duvets and blankets. There were no electric blankets or hot water bottles. It’s an alpine environment so only having one duvet per bed and no additional blankets made it quite cold. There is no heating in the bedrooms. No doubt it is lovely in the summer.
- Hannah (10/5): Perfection. - Such a beautiful space! all the rooms are lovely and super cozy! a great place for a wee couples retreat or girls weekend away! lovely views of the mountains and 2 car parks available, the fire place with complimentary firewood was another awesome feature! we will definitely be back as it is great value for money and just all round the perfect spot for a weekend getaway!
- Ange (7/5): Good -
- Georgia (9/5): We had a lovely time exploring the Hamner area and loved having the Chalet to come home to… warm and comfy! - Very homey.. we like that!! No light for top bunk bed!
- Gary (6/5): Average - Warm and comfortable Bizi bee were unhelpful. Did not like having to make our own beds. Towels not good.
- Walker (9/5): Superb - Great location, Cosy chalet.
- Rachael (6/5): Nice place only let down by not being stocked for the next people and not being cleaned thoroughly - Nice little house in a nice location The oven was filthy and there were no matches nor fire starters as promised so we had to go out and buy some to use the fireplace.
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful warm wood house, well-appointed, great location, great kitchen, lovely stay thanks!
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice place. We will definitely be back.
- •kim• (10/5): Highly recommend 👌 - What's not to like? It was perfect for our family. We loved being visited by cheeky fantails while sitting in the outside area.
Warm and cozy.
- Elma (9/5): Wonderfully tranquil and private, we had a great family weekend away! - We had a wonderful stay in the house, the feel, location and size of the house was just what we hoped for. The beds were super comfortable, we loved that there was fire wood available, and the balcony almost all around the house with the comfy seating was a big plus. It’s a bit tucked away surrounded by trees and some lovely views of the mountains so comes with a lot of privacy and the kitchen had all the appliances and utensils we needed. Family games and smart TV available.
- Toni (9/5): Good family stay - Lovely home enjoyed the stay would be happy to book again kids enjoyed there stay also hopefully next time will be longer
- Gillian (8/5): Enjoyable couple of days and home very comfortable. Peaceful surroundings with lovely bird song. -
- Estela (10/5): perfect for our needs, loved the vibes - House private , secluded in the trees - very cosy
- Frances (10/5): Beautiful - Very sweet tidy place, loved the little things that suited out family, like a toy basket and th kids books. New kitchen and bathroom were lovely, great location. Nothing
- Leanne (10/5): Exceptional - Great private spot, clean comfortable and great value for money. Driveway was very steep to walk up after a night on the town 😆 🤣 just have to be fitter next trip
- Jasmine (10/5): The perfect long weekend away, great location and family friendly house - Loved the location and the house, an easy walk into the town. The kids absolutely loved the house and location being surrounded by the trees and ‘secrete gardens’
A bit of a steep driveway & a little harder to find the actual house once up there. Everything else was excellent, so handy having the smart tv’s aswell to have fun movie nights!
- Gerd (9/5): Wonderful midpoint of our short trip through the South Island this year. - Beautiful wooden cottage halfway up the hill, in close walking distance to the town centre. You can enjoy the sunrise from the couch outside the kitchen door.
- Stacey (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful house beautiful tress cute wee home
- Verity (9/5): Lovely warm family home, close to the shops but nice and private - thanks Hanmer Hideaway! - Loved the hidden away vibe and proximity to shops. It was super comfortable and the fire and drying rack were amazing! I couldn’t find a bucket to mop the floors. 🤣
- Reuben (9/5): Superb - Cozy, peaceful holiday home. Comfy beds and fantastic kitchen. Nice ambient lighting possibilities.
- Sharon (5/5): Expected better, based on the photos and prior reviews! - Location was good - an easy walk to town. Kitchen (fridge) and bathroom (shower and toilet) were not clean, living room was dusty and rubbish bin was full on our arrival - acknowledge that these issues might be a one off “glitch” eg with failure to check how the prior inhabitants left the property. Have also fed back to the hosts via text (no response yet) that we could not get the microwave (stopped after a few seconds of apparently going) or dishwasher (undissolved tablets) to work.
- Liu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kimberly (10/5): Exceptional - Location was fab, we really enjoyed spending our Christmas here. Felt like you were in the middle of nowhere. Kids loved it too.
- Mike (8/5): Recommend - Kitchen is well equipped and everything was tidy. Includes tea coffee salt sugar oil washing machine powder, appreciate the good quality pots and pans and cooking utensils etc. The fire is probably nice in winter. Has heat pump / air con. TV in line and main bedroom. Bathroom a bit old, and need a proper vacuum that works so carpet can be less dusty.
- Marc (10/5): Exceptional - Great location with everything we needed and more!
- Katherine (8/5): Very good -
- Nick (8/5): Very good - Warm, quiet and cosy Leaking tap
- Marcia (6/5): Pleasant - Location to town, had a washing machine, good amount of space You are required to bring your own linen or it can be supplied at an extra cost. Guests are required to clean the place on leaving, vacuum, mop, clean bathroom etc. Bed was very uncomfortable, partner disturbance was maximum and the pillows were flat and one had a small stain on it.
- Wayne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Terina (7/5): Amazing views - The location was great, and the views were amazing. Having to bring your own or pay for sheets and make your own beds, but it does clearly state you have to bring your own linen before you book. Either the dimmer wasn't working or light bulb in the lounge needed replacing, so we had to sit in the dark in the lounge room in the evening.
- Simon (8/5): Cosy and comfy stay -
- Alicia (10/5): Great value - Cozy place, comfortable beds, really nice place to stay. Short walk to town and the pools. Everything you need, Look forward to coming back here in the future! Nothing
- Stacey (9/5): Superb - Loved the location, surrounded by the trees.
- Loren (8/5): Very good -
- Kundan (3/5): Poor - The light under the house for getting wood and the security sensor lights going down was really good when needing to get wood during the evening the use of a smart tv so we can access our Netflix YouTube channels for the kids was helpful The master bedroom side door and front door had a bad draft from wind , the taps in the bath constantly dropped no matter how hard I turned the tap off
The house was messy from previous people that stayed and they didn’t tidy up as they should have. There was nearly zero newspaper for starting a fire and nearly zero fire starters there was no wood or kindling for us I remedied this and my wife and I cleaned up vacuumed the the place and cut more kindling for us and next stayers and made sure there was plenty of wood for how much we paid per night and the the condition the place was in wasn’t very pleased we were also not notified of the difficult drive way to enter the property and we took awhile to find it properly but got there in the end
Overall probably would have t consider price next time and ensure everything was well prepared for someone paying and staying for two nights
Thanks
Jesse & Sheree
- Beau (9/5): Superb -
- Vanessa (9/5): Really great spot for us - two adults and a toddler. - Really well set up for kids It was great. Nothing we didn't like.
- Clare (10/5): Fantastic will definitely book again - Was excellent very clean, comfortable, good facilities and lots of games for family time
- Odendaal (10/5): Exceptional -
- Collette (10/5): We were both able to relax, in the lounge, with the fire going, and enjoy the quietness. - The location was great for looking out at the hillside, The fire worked wonderfully, no need to use the heat pumps. Lovely hot shower. The adventuresome driveway up the hill, steep at times, and the 3 point turn to get off the property, making sure I didn't go over the edge! We managed it wonderfully the last time coming out! Smaller cars would do well there.
- Luke (10/5): Was a perfect place to book in hammer for a small family - Location was perfect and I loved the layout and especially the bunks and fireplace
- Honeyfield (8/5): Very good -
- Anthony (8/5): Very good -
- Robyn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Deb (9/5): Superb - We absolutely loved our stay at Hamner Hideaway. Everything you could need is supplied by the hosts and the views were outstanding. Would book again
- Rachael (10/5): I would definitely choose this home again. Thank you - Fantastic hideaway, so close to everything and well equipped.
- Mark (8/5): Very good - Comfort like home Just empty ashes from fire place
- Leong (10/5): Warm spacious Cozy Place - Warm, cozy and quiet house. Love the lock wood style. The house is very spacious and has enough seats. I love the kitchen especially the gas stove. The bed is good and the duvet is super warm. Really love this house, one of the best houses 😁 ever stay in Hanmer Spring. NA
- Hope (10/5): Would stay again! - Lovely home, clean and fully equipped with everything we needed. Especially loved the fire
- Michael (7/5): Cool place tucked up and away - The house was awesome, great proximity to amenities and the pools, this was more than enough room for my little family. Cool to have an option of fire place or heat pump. Great location and great views of snow on the mountain tops. Everything needed at the site to be self-sufficient, especially if you felt like cooking for yourself or staying in. I would recommend a latter check out time being that you had to clean the property before leaving or maybe having cleaners come through after guest stayed as you know it's been a thorough clean by a professional.
- Chloe (9/5): Nice comfortable and surrounded by native bush - Nice warm fire , great children’s books , good kitchen equipment Slippery stairs
- Jason (6/5): Below parr - Easy to book and good communication leading up to stay. Dishes were dirty in cupboards. Floors had not been well cleaned. House was very cold and took a long time to heat. I find it hard to believe it was checked by agency between guests.
Overall the house was tired and in need of some TLC. Driveway access was narrow and required reversing downhill and around corner.
All of this would be okay if daily rate was lower, but for a higher rate than a motel where bedding would be provided, heating would be on before arrival and guests wouldn't have to vacuum and mop at end of stay, this stay was definitely below parr.
- Rainima (10/5): Exceptional - The view from this home was absolutely stunning, worth every single penny. The home @20 Chalet Crescent was beautiful, warm once the fire got started, easy to access, and very beautifully kept and furnished. My children and I loved it. The stay was too short.
- John (9/5): warm and cosy holiday chalet - lovely place with a heat pump and wood burning stove as well, modern kitchen with all appliances, really enjoyed our stay and whilst overnight there were heavy frosts ( we stayed in June 24 ) the log fire was great
