- Tah-dah (5/5): Disappointing. - Great location, good base for exploring the lakes. Lovely grounds to explore. Rural setting. Lovely welcome pack on arrival. Well equipped kitchen with washing machine. Well stocked shop on site - has just about anything you might have forgotten to bring. Easy check in process. Hand wash provided which was lovely. Easy to book swimming sessions. Countryside walks straight from the door. Lovely to see the wildlife. We were originally booked in Jubilee Cottage but they moved us to Green Howse as Jubilee had been flooded. Green Howse was quite small inside. Quite dated and needed some TLC. We had a day of rain and the gutters above the front door look like they need cleaning as there was water pouring out of them just above the front door. There was only one key provided even though the welcome information said there were two. This was a little problematic as it meant we either had to leave people locked in or locked out.
There was some black mold in the main bathroom that someone had tried to wipe off but was coming back, this probably wasn't helped by the fact that there are no windows in the bathroom.
The double bunk bed is squashed into the smallest bedroom. This room also has the hot water boiler in a cupboard which can be a problem if you have a light sleeper in this room.
There is a table and chairs outside but it feels a bit like sitting in a carpark- disappointing as the cottage we booked had a lovely fenced off private grass area to sit in.
The on site shop is well stocked but doesn't open every day and only seemed to be open during the day when you're most likely to be out. The on site pool was great to use and a good temperature but not sure how often it is cleaned. There was a large dead spider in it on our first visit which was still there days later. There is a games room with ping pong and football tables which is a lovely idea but one of the ping pong paddles was broken and the only ping pong ball was squashed. The football table was falling to pieces and leaning to one side so we didn't attempt to use it. There is a laundry room to use, with washing machine and dryer. It's not very inviting but is usable although I struggled to get anything dry in the dryer. This might have been user error as I don't normally use one 😆.
